The only thing I would do is extend it to ~2.5 hours (no harm there in my opinion) so that we can keep more of the Blue Leaves fight and, most importantly, the Superman speech. I think that scene is too integral to Bill's character.
The only issue with this entire idea is that the strength of Bill in Vol 1 is that he is almost a myth, a boogeyman who is only shown as such. He isn’t even seen in full; there’s only a villainous shot of his body at the end. His reveal in the opening of Vol 2, which is almost sympathetic and comes in stark contrast to who he is portrayed as in Vol 1, is so incredibly powerful and changes the entire landscape of what we knew of Bill up until that point.
It shows how Buck has more layers to him than people would believe. Like, you can see how he used to be an awesome assassin with insight and wisdom, but for whatever reason, he slipped up and became a deadbeat.

I mostly agree with these edits, except the one with the music track "Battle Without Honor" playing right after the wedding massacre. It removes the tragic aspect from the scene, which lessens the whole value of Beatrix's revenge. The massacre needs to feel tragic. I know sacrifices would need to be made to cut the movie down to half it’s original runtime, but seeing the whole squad, and especially Bill, at the start of the movie seems like a mistake. Bill is her main target and he is so built up in the original that finally seeing that he looks like a plain-old frail man in part two who is very soft spoken and actually a bit charming... is incredibly disarming and speaks to why Vol 2 is so tonally different. Revealing the squad as she carries out the revenge unwraps the story. So much gets spoiled with them in the prologue. Even just showing a quick shot of her at the chapel and a smash cut to the sounds of the massacre (leaving out shots of the squad and Bill) leading into the title would preserve the fun reveals.
I can see this, that was the feeling I had between having just watched part 1 and watching part 2 soon after. It's important to remember not knowing what Bill looked like or what Beatrix's name was -- but I still agree with this cut overall for the purposes of telling a story. Then again, that's why Tarantino is Tarantino: the film was made in a way only he could think of doing it.

This is one of my favorite flicks and I've actually always wanted to re edit but mainly just to see what it would be like in a more chronological order. Never thought about getting that crazy with it but I really like the way this sounds and I'd love to watch it.
If the goal is to make one movie, this is it. Love it. I'd rather re-edit both and keep it as two but if you're a younger person who's never seen it or you're not really into Tarantino this condensed version would be great.
no no no. i like how theres 2 volumes. i like all the dialogue, i just love how its put together. one of my favourite movies of all time. i wouldnt change a single thing. but i like how avgn thinks
This new ending is super interesting. The only problem with this cut is that she has to go to Japan, back to us, back to Japan, then back to us again. Doesn't make sense
Incredible. I would love to see your cut. I like the originals but it never did sit perfectly well with me. Agreed that nothing can replace them but some of your specific edits are just *perfect* and no one can argue that 1&2 had a lot of unnecessary padding. Great work. Knowing this exists is now torture.
And with the reintroduction of some deleted scenes (namely Roland's introduction, as well as those scenes that would have fleshed out Sarah and Kelly Malcolm a lot more.)
I think that’s a great edit other than the use of the “theme song” is a little jarring for those scenes. Your ending is fantastic! But I’m glad we have the originals and all the extra scenes!
I really like the approach and think I would love this version of the film. But I do think there's a golden middle way, because this feels like it's all plot and no human which is what I love about the marathon. I also think the story is served really well non-linearly, not for the sake of style but because the over arching story that tarantino tells is not necesarily a linear one (in the literal time sense) but a linear story in the sense of exploring the character
i agree with that. james is such a hateful wannabe outside of youtube where he is a king. hollywood accepts quentin but he will never win a best director oscar.
In a perfect world Tarantino would release this edit and follow up the next year with a real sequel where Vernita Green’s daughter is grown and going for revenge.
The problem is by editing it down to two hours and cramming it into an overly rigid 3 act structure you are loosing all the spaghetti western structural quirks that actually make it a blending of east and west. Without the structure it’s basically a better crafted scary movie style film but for 70s Kung Fu cinema.
@@knottheory79220 It doesn't devalue his video though. Instead of two movies depicting those subjects, it ends up being a combination of the two into a single film.

This is one of my favorite flicks and I've actually always wanted to re edit but mainly just to see what it would be like in a more chronological order. Never thought about getting that crazy with it but I really like the way this sounds and I'd love to watch it.
But did you cut out Uma's feet? He won't like that if you did.
Quentin will get mad!
I love these movies but I’ve always felt weird about the tone shift between movies. I’m glad other people felt the same way.
How about "Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie; The Rolling Rock Cut?"
Is the ceo of rolling rock doing the edit?
@@isetmfriendsofire yes. Apparently, there's not enough Rolling Rock in the movie. And they find cases of it along with the ET games.
I'd buy THAT for a dollar!
Check out the IFDB (Internet Fanedit Database).
I'm stunned. I've got chills James. Incredible work sir.
You should make this concept a series.
dang james, this is really spot-on. if i can't see your edit, i almost want to re-edit it myself based on your framework
If the goal is to make one movie, this is it. Love it. I'd rather re-edit both and keep it as two but if you're a younger person who's never seen it or you're not really into Tarantino this condensed version would be great.
I would enjoy to watch Peter Jackson's Hobbit as only one movie.
Edit: thanks to the comments, now I know it exists!
Or two.
It already exists online!
Exists online. Much more palatable than as a trilogy. Google for it, vimeo
I agree The Hobbit trilogy could have been better as just two movies
This would be like taking Pulp Fiction and editing the film so that the scenes were in chronological order. It would be completely missing the point.
Keep crying hater 😂😂😂
no no no. i like how theres 2 volumes. i like all the dialogue, i just love how its put together. one of my favourite movies of all time. i wouldnt change a single thing. but i like how avgn thinks
This new ending is super interesting. The only problem with this cut is that she has to go to Japan, back to us, back to Japan, then back to us again. Doesn't make sense
yea, people can't travel in movies unless they are seen on a plane every time.
Just splice in the money plane for those scenes
"It'll never replace the official movie."
Thanks for clearing that up. LoL.
That ending is perfect. I would have Hattori Hanzous monologue about revenge over it.
Incredible. I would love to see your cut. I like the originals but it never did sit perfectly well with me. Agreed that nothing can replace them but some of your specific edits are just *perfect* and no one can argue that 1&2 had a lot of unnecessary padding.
Great work. Knowing this exists is now torture.
the coffin scene is my favorite in the whole movie, and you improved it
I always thought The Lost World: Jurassic Park could have been a lot better with some keen editing.
And with the reintroduction of some deleted scenes (namely Roland's introduction, as well as those scenes that would have fleshed out Sarah and Kelly Malcolm a lot more.)
It: Chapter 2 is another one.
@@JohnStanworth It Chapter 1 could use some major changes too, so it's actually scary.
@@HOTD108_ I find portions of Chapter 1 already scary.
The music in the scene when she's about to fight O-ren is one of the best movie scenes I've ever watched. Gives me goosebumps.
Phil Panella that entire scene is a legit masterpiece. The quiet soothing water, the calm cozy snow setting, the music, the choreography. I love it.
It's a different interpretation not necessarily worse just a different experience
i agree with that. james is such a hateful wannabe outside of youtube where he is a king. hollywood accepts quentin but he will never win a best director oscar.
Try editing the Lord of the Rings trilogy into a single 3-hour film. Now there is a Challenge.
Impossible
But why though? Even the publishers of the OG book felt that one was too big to put out in a single volume.
I need to see this cut now
Me too.
I wish this version of yours existed. Tight, well paced, and still carrying all the important moments
I love it when you come out with a video. Makes me happy. Thankyou James
Imagine turning all three parts of Back to the Future into one film.
He should do that next
I would love that.
I've done a marathon or two and I definitely think we should cut a few of the running gags. They get pretty tedious.
This is why I apretite the OriginalTrilogy website.
The people in that community have made some amazing fan edits there.
Hal9000 is the best faneditor on that site!
@@jobe1728 What does Hal9000 do?
wariolandgoldpiramid He redid the Star Wars Prequels and is now working on the Sequels
@@jobe1728 Do they make the Prequels better?
*appreciate
Vol. 1 always felt more like a kung fun movie ... and Vol. 2, a western. The music seems to convey that, too. Great ideas, JR.
Vol. 1 is a homage to anime and japanese film making
Vol. 2 is a Spaghetti Western
Exactly, it was released this way on purpose. James' idea is interesting, but it also sort of misses the point.
@@knottheory79220 It doesn't devalue his video though. Instead of two movies depicting those subjects, it ends up being a combination of the two into a single film.
Very awesome edit, James! I don't think anyone could have done it any better!
Wouldn't it be an honour if Quentin Tarantino saw this and asked James to release this edit?
he does not have the rights. he is just the studio hired writer and director
surprised he wasnt a producer on the flick. either way,, i'm sure he'd still have to sign off on it somehow - which he never would.
Great, now I’m dying to watch your version.
James, I love it when you talk movies!!
Mostly agree. We need this version anyways. Hope Tarantino recognizes this opportunity and contacts James. For the same of Tarantino's career I mean, hehe.
great video! I love the insight into how editing actually works in film. it's a subject that's usually overshadowed by the writing, directing, and shot design.
