Hey Adam, Paleontologist here, your T-rex is actually more accurate withouth feathers. Irl the T-rex would only have feathers as a baby, and would eventually shead them all going into older age, much like me and my hair
6:29 Actually, at this point it's accurate to reconstruct T. rex with or without feathers. There are fossilized skin impressions that only show scales, but they are small and from areas of the body that probably wouldn't have feathers if they were present. There is a feathered relative of Tyrannosaurus, but it lived millions of years before T. rex and on a different continent, so feathers on Tyrannosaurus rex aren't guaranteed. The main theory that people go with now is that baby T. rexes had downy feathers that they gradually lost as they aged. So Dave did shed his feathers, but not because of safety concerns.
this sculpture is frickin SWEET straight up, perfect rendition of every toddler-to-eleven-year-old boy's fantasy toy dreams. and though i agree with helianthus photon on the skin texture in the comments, the fact that he's wielding flamethrowers tells me your biggest priority wasn't realism lol. but it came out SO COOL also, when you said t. rex shed his feathers due to them being a fire hazard, that turned out to be a solid decision. pretty sure the consensus from the sciencing people is that tyrannosaurs did not have feathers - at least, not as adults. a fossilized dilong paradoxus had a coat of tiny, almost downy protofeathers coating its body to stay warm, but it's likely they didn't need these at maturity. anyway, awesome work, man!
Also 2 more things, there are many different types of feathers, and they've gone through their own evolution as well. A lot of dinosaurs were fully "feathered" but the feathers they had are completely different from what we understand to be feathers. They were more like feathery sticks rather than a full bird feather
I can't think of a more perfect thing than Dave, readily weilding flame throwers, to light birthday candles with! 😀 Happy Birthday, North of the Border! You are the t.rex cosplaying a dragon that lights up my week!

Fun fact. Despite being tiny in proportion to the rest of its body, a T-Rex’s arms were still immensely strong, and could probably rip you in half if given the chance.
@@galvanizedgnome actually the theory that t-Rex had feathers is erroneous and overeager and has since been disproved with skin impressions. The idea that it had feathers comes from another tyrannosaur. But they were so distant it doesn’t seem likely
@@galvanizedgnome inferring the level of musculature is actually a lot easier and less prone to inaccuracies than say inferring the level of feathering or scales a dinosaur had. This is because the size and strength of muscles have a direct correlation to certain features of the skeleton, that being the size and robustness of ‘muscle attachment points’. This is where certain skeletal muscles attach and brace to the bones. Using the specific parameters of such attachment points can allow you to calculate a rough estimate of the amount of force a muscle could exert when contracting, it’s how the bite force of extinct animals is estimated for example. Going back to what the op said tho, although I doubt a trex would’ve had the arm mobility or strength to rip a human completely *in half* , based on the size of various muscle attachment points and bone thickness within the shoulder and arms, their arms definitely were considerably stronger than a humans, with an individual arm most likely being able to curl a couple hundred pounds without too much trouble. I’m no expert though, so take what I’ve said with a grain of salt and if you’re interested, I’d recommend you do some research of your own into the intricacies of calculating muscle strength. Also search up a picture of ‘trex and human arm bone’ and you’ll see pics comparing the size. Although arm length is somewhat similar, trex arms are much thicker bone-wise so even without all this stuff I’ve said, you could easily assume they were pretty jacked lmao

Wireless LED.. but... how do it work if it do not got wire to connect power supply? Unless it's got the battery built into the housing, in which case it'd have a housing that needs to be hidden away somewhere!
@@NorthoftheBorder The LEDs work by receiving power from an induction coil. it's quite low profile. it's just a little copper wire and a small batery pack. youd have to place the induction coil and batteries within one foot of the lights. you could easily hide it under a shelf with the sculpt on top, or build it into a base. or, at the risk of showing my age, just always sculpt a stargate around it. that would explain ,say the existance of a mech-shark. you can fairly easily make custom LEDs for the system as well. there are several tutorials you can find with a quick search. you could have a sculpture of superman that has green glowing viens when you get him too close to the kryptnite with the hidden wireless LEDS. I just thought it might be a cool thing for you to play around with.
The conclusion has come back around to T-Rex most likely having no feathers, or _maybe_ some very sparse fuzz in some places; possibly fluffy as chicks and then lost the feathers as they age. Also, it's been estimated that T-Rex's arms could lift approximately 400 pounds, each.

My only critique would be that the flamethrower tanks don't have any hoses or tubes actually connecting them to anything, but as usual a stellar sculpture! You are super talented and your detailed work is extraordinary!
Actually, the most recent science (skin patches and indents on the fossils were discovered by Peter Larson and Phil R. Bell in 2017) points to the T-rex being scaly, not feathery. So this is entirely accurate to the real dinosaur.

As a Hunter, a t-rex with flamethrowers literally screams “Anjanath” to me. (Although with Anjanath, it’s nose is the flamethrower…) Speaking of, it’d be cool to see figures of Rathian and Rathalos (particularly Razewing Ratha) in the future.
When I saw the thumbnail, my first thought was "ah, so a real-life anja." The earlier BotW guardian sculpts put me in mind of our favorite pickle(deviljho)'s laser beam, too.
Love this guy, reminds me a lot of the T-rex design from the 2008 Turok. Something about it seems a little zombified, though, like I expect this is what a zombified Rex would be before actually becoming a zombie. Glaze this guys eyes over with white and he's basically a zombie.
Oh no, you missed a part. There should be some way for the gas to get from the tanks into the base of the backpack which then goes out to the flame throwers. There is no connectivity between the tanks and a route to get to the throwers. It looks amazing though.

As a paleo enjoyer I don’t remember reading anything about T-rex pimples. I do know that carnotaurus had similar scutes randomly dispersed across it’s body but it was only distantly related to T-rex and T-rex scales likely evolved from feathers, similarly to the scales on a bird’s leg. However even though the pimples might not be accurate, it looks good on the sculpture

This is so cool! I like the way you use realism in (almost) every sculpture!
this is so fucking dope. when i was a kid i came up with an idea for a line of action figures that would be a bunch of snakes with increasingly dangerous overpowered robot limbs and t. rex with flamethrower hands reminds me of that i love it so much
Someone needs to make those action figures, they sound fucking amazing.
Uh. So... Listen....I'm gonna need you to follow through with that idea because that sounds dope as hell! I'll buy the whole series
@@lenabeans i’m learning CAD and 3d printing stuff at college and zbrush sculpting in my spare time ! if people genuinely like the idea i might think about it some more tbh
@@stinky59 That would be awesome! I'd buy them!
@@stinky59 I would also like to add to the growing list of people who need this in their lives now.
I feel like I'd be proud of Dave, just because he's a pyromaniac, that probably cooks his food before killing it. This gives me a kind of bad rep, seeing as I'm proud of a pyromaniac, flame thrower duel wielding dinosaur, but hey, you did a great job my man.
personally id say its rad rep but okay
Dave definitely looks like something Calvin of Calvin and Hobbes fame would dream up, love it!
Masterpiece. Adam, this is 10/5 stars. i would have wanted this when i was little. you have made my dino mech dreams come true. thx.
My only critique would be that the flamethrower tanks don't have any hoses or tubes actually connecting them to anything, but as usual a stellar sculpture! You are super talented and your detailed work is extraordinary!
Wow! Mad sculpting skills! So many beautiful details :)
Actually, the most recent science (skin patches and indents on the fossils were discovered by Peter Larson and Phil R. Bell in 2017) points to the T-rex being scaly, not feathery. So this is entirely accurate to the real dinosaur.
Just need more meat
Entirely accurate, yes. Flamethrowers included. because some time-travelling fool left them behind and this T-Rex somehow learned how to use them.
@@krysmun can confirm. I am that time travelling fool. I also just had a egg and spoon race with hitler
@@Mikebuster You monster! So that's why he caused WW2, you probably beat him in that race and he got so mad that he started a whole war!
It was like one freaking inch one inch! That's like saying an ostrich is fully scaly by looking at one toe so no it ain't accurate
Damn, 2 years of incredible builds already! Here's to many more years of you posting these amazing videos and builds!
P.S. a pirate themed build would be so damn cool for a future video!
Love your videos! Your process of making art and not knowing what youre doing but making it come together through trial and error is so relatable, you inspire me :)
Love this Man's talent and wit. He absolutely makes my day with every perfect sculpture. I watch with my 6 yr old and he loves all you vids as well.
Happy 2 years. I've only done clay for about 2 months. But it's the most entertaining hobby I've ever had. This is a good channel to get tips and tricks from. Thanks for the Upload Adam!
Hey Adam, Paleontologist here, your T-rex is actually more accurate without flamethrowers.
So that's what those little arms were for.
Odd how all discovered T-Rex fossils didn't have any flamethrowers around them but now that we know what to look for so I'm sure they'll turn up.
Thats what the government wants you to think! They hide the flamethrowers!
Adam, I can't tell you how much joy I get when you make and use the negative texture rollers. I am all in favor of taking time now to save time later and it's just so satisfying to watch
Your sculpturing talents are unreal! 💖
As a Hunter, a t-rex with flamethrowers literally screams “Anjanath” to me. (Although with Anjanath, it’s nose is the flamethrower…)
Speaking of, it’d be cool to see figures of Rathian and Rathalos (particularly Razewing Ratha) in the future.
When I saw the thumbnail, my first thought was "ah, so a real-life anja." The earlier BotW guardian sculpts put me in mind of our favorite pickle(deviljho)'s laser beam, too.
Ah, a fellow hunter.
This stuff is a arch-tempered anjanath
That’s exactly what I thought, its the alternative version of a Anja
Love this guy, reminds me a lot of the T-rex design from the 2008 Turok. Something about it seems a little zombified, though, like I expect this is what a zombified Rex would be before actually becoming a zombie. Minus the TF2 flamethrowers, but hey he can hold them and he seems happy about it, so good for him. Love these dinosaur builds a lot.
Turok... there's a name I've never heard in a long long time.
@@NorthoftheBorder It's not great and is kinda lazy but Turok 2008 has some damn good dinosaurs (and things that aren't) and even though it didn't make it to the final game, for some reason this reminds me a lot of the beta and "prototype" Rex designs.
Glaze this guys eyes over with white and he's basically a zombie.
I’m always amazed at how good your creations look
Oh no, you missed a part. There should be some way for the gas to get from the tanks into the base of the backpack which then goes out to the flame throwers.
There is no connectivity between the tanks and a route to get to the throwers.
It looks amazing though.
Maybe it goes through the backpack
Maybe you are over thinking😐😑
Ha, came here to say the same thing.
@@riaanjacobs5471 maybe I don't care
Maybe the canisters are for refilling the flamethrowers
Congrats on your 2nd year!!! Coming up with a new tiny nerdy thing every week is no small feat but you’ve done it none-the-less. Thank you for the dedication! I can’t wait to see what’s next!
You make everything look fun and easy. I bought some clay and tools and started screaming 2.47 minutes after beginning. I bought a book for assistance. Nice video and I hate you in the most loving way possible. Cheers.
Editing out 20+ hours of crying into my hands helps
@@NorthoftheBorder are you okay
Hey Adam! Your channel (can't get enough of it!) has made me want to get into sculpting. Can you explain the different clays and their pros and cons? Thanks!
This is the most beautiful thing I've seen in a long time. I'm excited to see what you've got for us next!
Imagine the title of this video without the context that this is an art crafting channel. The outcome is both amazing and terrifying
This is one of my favourite things ever! The awasomeness!😍
I love the flames. So simple yet so very effective. The sculpt as always is mind blowing.
This needs to be a Netflix show, I love watching these! 🎉
This thing is fabulous. Your sculpting is amazing as always but I'm super impressed by how cool the flames look.
I absolutely adore Dave 💕
I think I found my new favorite channel
I love it, this is probably the best thing you’ve made.
I love how every time he says something funny, I go to like the video.
The only problem is, I've always already liked the video
Times like this, you wish UA-cam had multiple like button
Such a well sculpted Dave! Great ideas in here!
Yay! 2 years of awesome videos and hopefully many more crazy creations! I love these videos, they inspire me to create whatever i want no matter how silly or nerdy or janky. An inspiration to all artists!
T. Rexes did have thumbs! One of the two digits was a thumb, the other was a finger. But they couldn't really rotate their wrists and they had very little gripping power; paleontologists, last I knew, were still just blindly guessing at what, if anything, those tiny arms were used for.
This kind of content is so pure, I could just sit here admiring your skill for hours
I love how this is probably one of the deadliest things you wouldn't want to meet irl and his name is Dave.
Reminds me of the octapus from penguins of Madagascar
As a paleo enjoyer I don’t remember reading anything about T-rex pimples.
I do know that carnotaurus had similar scutes randomly dispersed across it’s body but it was only distantly related to T-rex and T-rex scales likely evolved from feathers, similarly to the scales on a bird’s leg.
However even though the pimples might not be accurate, it looks good on the sculpture
This is by far one of my favorite projects done by Adam👍
Apreciable Adam, esta ha sido una de tus mejores esculturas, me pareció genial, muchas gracias por el esfuerzo y la dedicación, chears pal
Epic and fun! I'm so impressed the "foil cotton wad monstrosity" became huge spurts of flame!
Dude the paint job on this one was particularly Badass
If this existed a long time ago then we would only have found t-Rex skeletons
Also happy anniversary for this channel!
Edit: thanks for all the likes!
This one is one of my absolute favourites. id happily have this in my display case. Maybe if you ever want to set the scene you can make a herbivore like stegosaurus with a water jet on its back to fight the fire of the carnivore
Your humor here made me laugh a few times. I needed it today of all days
Happy belated birthday to your channel, Adam! Hopefully Dave didn’t burn the cake with his epic flamethrowers XD
I feel like Dave needs a partner in crime now… Perhaps a raptor with a jet pack? A rocket raptor, if you will? 🤔
YES.
I’ve been watching for a little over a year now, and this piece really showed me how much skill you’ve gained. You’ve improved so much and it makes me proud to be a subscriber
Wow. The cotton really worked well. I love it.
I really love your work on this channel! Makes me wanna learn to do this myself! I do wanna see what if you do Phineas and Ferb characters(any of them will do!). With any twist or no twist, I will absolutly love them. Anyway, I believe my favorite one you made was the Spider-Man Lamp sculpture! Was really well done!
I’m curious how many of these scale texture rolls you make? Do you ever reuse old ones?
This Is Sick!!!! You So Talented!
This is phenomenal! I think this is your best work yet, not just sculpting-wise but the overall concept as well. I love Dave!
Also thanks for sticking in some Trex audio from Jurrasic Park lol
As a fellow Dave, I've gotta day you did an excellent job.
Any chance we can get a triceratops with chainsaws?
the J a N k of this channel is my favorite thing it makes my day
Not a paleontologist but I am a biologist and the “T-Rex pimples” are actually abnormalities in the scaly skin
I've been binge watching your videos, I love your creations! Your voice reminds me of Stuart McLean, host of "The Vinyl Cafe". Thank you for sharing your talents with us!
I appreciate your commitment to scientific accuracy while drawing a T-Rex with a flamethrower.
You are my inspiration! I wish I could sculpt so well like you. This Friday I am getting clay and I really Want to make something cool
Imagine what Adam's house guests reactions would be as they come into his room just to find a freaking dinosaur with a flamethrower.
Bro, this was so good I thought it was a scene from the history channel after 10:00 PM
Cara essa é de longe a figura de ação mais legal que já vi! Obrigado!
As a paleodermatologist, I can tell you that the condition you referred to as "Trex Pimples," is actual known as "Acne Vulrexus."
Is this a joke? I cant tell if this is a joke.

First. A T-REX with a flame thrower sounds like something I would see in GTA5 mods or something. Happy birthday
amazing! i love the videos that you make! its so calming and relaxing
Maaaan you have some AWESOME skill😃Your rough version is 1000 times better than I could pull off if I was at the detailed stage❤️❤️❤️
That roller thing you made, the saran wrap idea, Plus using the rock to smash the foam for texture were ALL some wicked great tips!😃
Amazing craft that leaves me with one question:
How are the gas cylinders connected to the torches?...
Actually you weren't far off, check out Fleshy and the Rex from the prehistoric planet, both lack mostly anything, but they are considered accurate, either way it looks amazing!
