I love that the album opens with "Don't you think its boring how people talk" and ends with "people are talking, let them talk"
It make for a lovely transition if you are listening to the album on repeat.
secondly, I think it shows a growth of like "we are doing our thing and fuck everyone else" by the end
ooooh I love that ! just noticed after reading this .
She wrote most of this songs with 13 years, also she paved the way for a lot of singers like Billie, etc.
She was 16 when this album was produced
@@hellovanite True, but she was writing these songs for a couple of years before that, and her original EP came out when she was 15.
@@phillipridgway8317 Yep I live in Belmont about only about 3mins from where her family lives in Devonport. I went to Takapuna Grammar as well. I remember the love club EP and her school band too. 😉
she didn’t pave the way for billie dont starr
@@crickets6114 she did lol, Lorde and Lana were the creators of the indie sad girl music
Let's be real, Ribs redefined what a pop song is and could be with its complete disregard for standard song structure and composition. The fact that it quickly rose in popularity spoke volumes. People were tired of being fed the same formula. It paved the way for what we have now
.....Runaway
@@CycleOfJudges girl aurora is irrelevant
@@bryan3953 no idea who that is. I'm talking about Kanye. The original "pop song formula" destroyer
@@CycleOfJudgeshis album is more of rap.
@@duongnguyen-zk4rj and? Destroyer of pop song structures. You can't sit there and tell me Kanye hasn't been mainstream pop for decades.
"rap" is connected to pop at this point.
Okay but can we appreciate the make up being served today? I am LIVING!
Thank you !!!!
Listening to this album for the first time retroactively it's important to consider the context. When _Pure Heroine_ was released in 2013, it influenced and changed pop music with its subject matter, tone, sparse electro beats and minimalism. Kinda ironic as it was made on a tiny budget and basic equipment. The colorful word pallet is impressive considering she was 16.
*_influenced by Lorde_*
Billie Eilish
Halsey
Melanie Martinez
Broods
Tove Lo
Troye Sivan
Banks
Kiiara
Bebe Rexha
MØ
The Neighborhood
Daya
Alessia Cara
Hailee Steinfeld
Zara Larss
Taylor Swift
_There's probably more but I think I made my point._
I think the interesting word choices might have something to do with her mom being a poet
WTF??? Billie, Halsey, Taylor and The Neighborhood weren't influenced by Lorde, you're crazy
Everyone knows and they themselves said that Lana del Rey was the one who inspired them, even Lorde even though her stupid fans deny it but Solar Power is proving it
@@jeffersonosvaldocatalandua8602 are ya hungry little troll?
@@jeffersonosvaldocatalandua8602 Lorde is inspired by lots of artists. A year after _Pure Heroine_ came out Taylor Swift released 1989 emulating the spoken world style and airy production hugely. Billie Eilish didn't released her first song until 2015, and copied Lorde by releasing it on Soundcloud. Her first full album wasn't until 2019 and sounds a lot like Pure heroine in style. That dark teen angst, sparse electro beats, even the vocal style...Just sayin.
it's incredible to see how pure heroine has some many relations with melodrama. ribs always makes me wanna cry! even if i'm 20, lol. its a such good song! really love ur reactions! ;) from brazil here
Pure Heroine is the album that helped me and resonated with me when I was in my early teenage years, it'll always remain dear to my heart
It's crazy because this album came out when I was eight and I completely idealized it!! But as a teenager and a somewhat outcast (even though that is my whole generation at this point lol) I relate to it SO much, and your comment resonated with me...young me would be happy haha
I like the structure of listing to the sound of song first and than you analyzing the lyrical content.
me too !
Finally someone giving the appreciation that Glory and Gore deserves!!!!!!!!
I love it so much !!!! Is it not a popular one ? Hahaha 🤣
@@FernStone It just didn't get as much attention as some of the others, but Lorde obviously liked it because her live performances at the time usually began with this song.
This album is a pure masterpiece, best representation of tumblr grunge era. So so happy to see your reaction, omggg!!!
It totally invented and popularized tumblr grunge too!!! I remember it loll
ribs and buzzcut season are my comfort songs... ribs just does something to me
pure heroine is my favorite lorde album it just really feels like a nostalgic coming of age album to me. top three songs are ribs, glory and gore, and buzzcut season (replace buzzcut season with bravado if we're counting extended tracks! which you should do!)
Notice how the album starts with “don’t you think it’s boring how people talk” and ends with “let them talk”!
it's the first video reaction about Pure Heroine i really enjoyed til the end, thank you so much, LOVE YOOOOOU,
hope someday you'll react to M.I.A. - MATANGY album
it is insane how people sleep on her talent
Her Brain at the very young age is astonishing… she’s a walking poetry. ❤️
Her lyrics at this album was already insane..
she’s so unique
And this album changes the modern pop. And how artists got inspired by her.
I think her mother is a big influence-she is a published poet and has won awards and is also a teacher.
I never noticed this until watching your reaction but it almost feels like Buzzcut Season is about imagining you're with a loved one during a War. Or imagining you're living in a more peaceful time with that loved one
Wow, this album is great, I don't think I've heard the whole thing before!
I need to listen to some more Lorde...
Thanks for another great reaction, I also enjoy it when you delve into the lyrics of what you're listening to :D
you made me laugh too hard when you sang paperplanes by m.i.a and was like "im literally speaking simlish at this point" love the vid!! x
YESSS THANK YOU!!! I just clicked and I already know I'm gonna love it SO MUCH
Loved this reaction. I’ve seen you’ve done a Bjork reaction (as part of your Arca deep drive), but you NEED to listen (and hopefully love) her album, Homogenic. It’s an absolute classic. And your synesthesia will go into overdrive in the best possible way.
This album is soo iconic. Loved your reaction and makeup!
My favourite reactor at the moment❤️ always honest and analytical thank you
Lorde exhibited so much talent and artistry at the age of 17. Her mother played a big role in this. Her mother is an award-winning poet in New Zealand and also a teacher. She encouraged Ella (Lorde) to read variety of genres and this influenced her songwriting skills.
Her style, starting with Royals, changed pop music (that's why she reminds you of Billie Eilish among others). Lorde is famous for using the myxolydian mode of chord structure hence you feel that her music seems to sit somewhere in between minor and major chords. Her music ushered in the minimalist and experimental style of pop---from the vocals to the sounds.
Pure Heroine is all about youth and the disillusionment and bravado that come with it. Melodrama is all about relationships (I watched your video reaction to the album---thanks for the wonderful review! and your voice sounds so great). In between Pure Heroine and Melodrama, she broke up with her boyfriend of several years. I think that influenced the direction of Melodrama. For me, Pure Heroine is angsty; Melodrama is angry (but her anger here is the type that comes with sadness and occasional despair and self-loathing).
My favorites from this album are 400 Lux, Ribs, and Team. But I like Melodrama more---it's in my list of my top albums of all time. I guess I enjoyed getting caught up in her storm.
David Bowie once caller her the future of music and she was chosen by Bowie's family to sing Life on Mars (together with Bowie's own band) at the BRIT Awards' tribute to David Bowie after his death.
I like your channel and your content a lot. Thank you for creating it :)
AAAAAAA idk you were gonna react to this! Great reaction Fern!
Yessss ive been waiting
The makeup always on point, sis 👌🏻
I always love your eye makeup!
I'd love to see your thoughts on the extended version. Don't forget about no better!
Hi Fern thanks for your reaction. I think it really picked up for me around Buzzcut Season...the layers in White Teeth Teans. I'll have to have another listen.
Thank you for watching , always appreciate your comments !
God Damn I love ‘Glory And Gore’ Amazing reaction, loved it! C’mon a million subs! lol
It’s such a good song !!! Aww thank you 🙏☺️
Please listen to CTRL by SZA, an RNB masterpiece!
Loved your reaction!
your relate story on the train bought back memories it was funny to hear. love your reacions
I.m.h.o. this first album is still her best creative work so far. For me nothing came close to it afterwards, yet.
Love the experimental sound expressions on that in combination with lyrics sharp as a blade and as self-reflective as sometimes sarcastic.
loved your point about royals and how it's about being the queen of your own world rather than THE world!!!
the extended version has some of the best songs!!
the hair and makeup is iconic omfg
I never heard some of these songs and damn the Paper Planes thing was spot on I didn't even think about that haha
Amazing reaction, Lorde’s awesome 👏🥰
cool how your make up syncs with the album cover!
Oh I’m so looking forward to “hanging” with you & Lorde after a long Saturday when .. you notice all the gross things your kids have done to your home. The things your mind has kindly been blocking, until today, when I had my day of gross surprises. I think you’ll get that. This is perfect to sit down to and let my gaze wander kindly, again. Two of my favourite women to virtually vibe with. Thank you!! So necessary. Much love to you.
Omg you are so young still, little sister dear. Lots of years of creativity/medicine still. In 2013 I was .. I always forget my age.. but I was not 17 (+20ish).
im so excitedddd
Great video, the extended version have amazing songs too! They were taken from her debut EP
I hope you can react to Hopelessness by Anohni 🙏
React to Phoebe bridges stranger in the alps pls it actually made me cry
Someone most definitely has pointed this out already but I LOVE how the album begins with "Don't you think that it's boring how people talk?" and ends with "Let them talk"... Also, it's very notable how Lorde uses body parts a lot in her lyricism - sometimes even in a gory way - and seems especially "obsessed" with teeth. A lot of her songs, especially on this album but even on Melodrama, have several mentions of teeth:
"Dreams of clean teeth" (400 Lux),
"I cut my teeth on wedding rings" and "gold teeth" (Royals),
"A hundred jewels between teeth" (Team),
White Teeth Teens the entire song,
"Well those great whites/rumours, they have big teeth" (Green Light),
"I'm closing my teeth around this liquor-wet lime" (Sober)
400 Lux is probably my favourite track, I love the semi random orange juice line and especially love how the title is both a reference to light, sunsets and sunrises, and a reference to the luxurious lives of celebrities and the ruling class etc. that the whole album is about. It's all just so clever.
Love the wig! Rich!
Glory and Gore is my fav
JASON DERULO AS YOUR PATRON?"!"?' just queen things
I wish I could listen to ribs again for the first time..
have you reacted to ancient dreams in a modern land?
i really really love that whole album, but my favorites are Buzzcut Season, Ribs, Team and 400 Lux. I guess you should listen to Bravado and No Better, that are amazing songs too (ps: Bravado is one of my favorites too). KISSES FROM BRAZIL ❤️🔥🥰
I totally agree with what you said at the end. As a whole I like Pure Heroine more but Melodrama has some great standout tracks.
my favorite song is most of the album
13:02 not related to the video at all but I did the exact same harmony and it scared me
extended version pls
I think this is going to be a big comment, so... Sorry for that already hahaha And english isn't my first language, so there might be a few mistakes. Anyway, Fern, have you ever considered reacting to artist that don't sing in english? I don't recall seeing such thing in your channel. I'm asking you this because I'd love to see your reaction on a Brazilian artist named Duda Beat and her album "Te Amo Lá Fora", but it's in Portuguese. I would happily translate the lyrics and send you if you wanted to react to it, cause I really like your reactions. I don't know if you're going to like it (I think you will thogh), but I definitely believe it's going to be a very different experience for you. Anyways, even if you won't react to it (😭😭😭), I think It wouldn't be a waste of time for you to listen to it by your own. I know you probably don't have a lot of Brazilians subscribers, but it could be an opportunity to have their attention (we click and watch basically any video there's brazilian stuff, specially if our flag is on the tumbnail). Sorry for making such a big comment, loved the reaction and the make up and wish you a good day :)
Yaaaaayyyy
yeeeessssssssssss
Yes do lírica :) lyrics on a song are as important as vocals and sounds ;))
can i ask why u refer to ur subs as ur spirit guides?
You mean Billie Eilish has Lorde like sounds running thru her songs, Its a known fact Lorde actually changed music, with Pure Heroine, it was a game changer, she wrote PH at 13 and Melodrama at 17
I think it was more like 15-16 on pure heroine and 19-ish on melodrama
... Billie would of been 11 in 2013 ... LOL . So of course! I really never said Lorde has Billie like sounds running through her music , I said they sounded similar vocally in one part. Must not of come across right .... but don't worry I'm not stupid ( most the time) hahaha!
Please consider reacting to 'Emotions' album by Carly Rae Jepsen and 'Queen of the Clouds' and 'Sunshine Kitty' albums by Tove Lo
