    Ah yes. Growing up in Massachusetts the scorpion bowl was a legendary thing at Chinese restaurants you would hear about before you were even old enough to drink. I had a lot of them but became a Mai Tai guy. Great video.

    This channel is going places. Excellent video! Really appreciate the thorough preamble, tiki lore can be quite murky so it’s nice to get an unambiguous history of the cocktail in one shot.

    We used to go "bowling" all the time. You're correct that they were never very good. Wicked pissa videos by the way!

    Great stuff! I always go back and forth on the issue of whether or not to stir in a rum float right away, or wait until the end to allow it to add a (massive) kick and bolster the flavor a bit. You posit a great argument for the latter, I think I'm sold on that approach now. Mahalo!

      Honestly I think it depends on the cocktail, but for this one, saving the float is def worth it.
      Mahalo.

    Just made this. Head and shoulders a better drink over the original! Thanks for sharing your recipe.

    I have not been overly fond of the scorpion bowl either but will definitely have to try this one since it’s single serve and so much better! Well done Andy and MAHALO! 🍹

    I never really liked any of the scorpion recipes (Luau/Vic's/Kelbo's) so I'm glad someone agrees with me and made a version that works. Always just found them too diluted and dull. I'll have to try this one definitely.

      Same, which is why this one is def potent lol

    Sounds great. Can always 4x the recipe for a bowl 😜 now time to go make one. 😋

      You absolutely can, although this is still a pretty big drink, you could def get away with just 2x for a bowl lol

    Enough acidity to balance? I wonder about acid adjusted orange juice here.

    • @MixingUpTiki
      @MixingUpTiki  11 місяців тому +1

      That’s def an option and I tried it but in the end I liked the extra dilution from the orange juice, plus it makes it a larger format cocktail, which is what I was aiming for.

    The bowl seems like a bad idea post-covid

      Could be for some people. Luckily mines a single serving

    Solid video as always. What is your Go to Dark Rum that is not top shelf but always a solid start for cocktails?

    Text and FB say .75 oz OFTD, but you say .5 oz in the video. I'm assuming this is just a mis-speak, but thought I'd ask.
