How to gain control in your handstand

- There are lots of misconceptions of how a handstand should work. The goal of many acrobatic or gymnastics movements is to make them as easy as possible. The handstand is not quite like that! Yes, we want to make it easier on the arms, shoulders and back by aligning us but we need to keep it hard and heavy on the fingers.
As long as you lean into your toes or your fingertips you can control the amount of lean but pushing into the floor more or less. You are in charge of what happens with your body. You can manipulate your figure by adapting the pressure you put into the floor.
Theoretically, the further you lean the less possible it becomes to fall. Unfortunately, the truth is that your lean is highly limited by wrist strength and mobility. Finding this perfect spot of how far to lean to have control yet to lean little enough to stay heathy is vital.

Dude, you just accelerated my progress.
Was using palms the whole time 🤦🏿♂️
Love hearing that!! So sick!
Honestly, I also heard for the longest time that your weight was supposed to be on the palms. That couldn't be further from the truth.
Me too, honestly i didnt know wtf was going on lol i just thought my core wasnt strong enough amd my legs were goofy.
Bruh same i was using my palms too xD
Took me months but now i can finally do handstand
Can u plz tell how much time did it take you to learn it

Thank you so much. I had been looking for an explanation like this but couldn’t find it 😅
Glad it helped! Happy training!
Bachmann you got me from one handstand push-up to 3 with this tip.
BOOOOOM! Well done!
This was really helpful thank you!
My pleasure :) Glad I can help!!
I'm training for this now, it's incredibly slow progress but I won't give up....
if you've kept going until now you should be at the easy point. once your used to the way your body works upside down it gets way easier to progress.
me too
how's it going? Im training handstand 1 year by now, and I cant get past 5 seconds, its depressing
This actually made it better omgg for those who dont get it,
Basically you dont handstand in ur palm, you do it in front of your arms, and if you are about to fall in front you have to push ue fingers to your palm of your hand and if you are falling backwards you have to use your finger tips to push forward
I can do handstand now at 4 weeks been constantly training without fear every day i never stop till i get my entire body is shaking and my arm being like a worm you inspired me man.
Keep it up! Great job! But don’t push too hard. Make sure you’re safe!!
Thanks!
pleasure!
I being training 3 days almost break my neck twice but still couldn't do it
Try doing it on the wall or having a matress in front of you
I’m getting good at handstands, and honestly this is the single thing that made me get better almost overnight. When I realized how to balance using my hands, instead of my legs, it made all the difference. I keep my weight a little past the point of balance over my head and use my fingertips to keep myself from tipping and it works great. Good tip!
Nice tips!👏
Please am still a beginner I will like to learn this
Wow i finally got it 👍
Nice I am doing it I keep falling but I am doing it I sometimes hold long I just need mor practice
Bro i was struggling to balance it so i left its training.. that tym i have enough strength to do wall handstand for 60+ sec but failed to balance.. ..
But after 1 yr I am starting it again 💪🏻
Daily handstand to gain wrist size ???????
I am not convinced trianing handstands is the mos teffective way to increase your wrist size. I would more recommend focusing on forearm strength through wrist curls etc.
Handstands dont give you big wrists. Just like standing doesnt give you big ankles
@@zinzincoetzee1934 But standing on your feet makes your ankles bigger.

I’ve been having so much trouble falling on my front, the elbow bending tip helped so very much.
Also thinking of extending my whole body really helps with alignment.

One of the biggest lessons I learned from yoga when in inversions is you have to be willing to commit. Your body’s going to go in the direction of your attention.
when i do handstand i fall under and i cant control please help to fix it
Use the wall for practice
Also you need to train your shoulders
Do pike pushups
I am very bad at these
Grip the ground when your falling forward when your falung backwards then bend elbows and push little forward
@@dtrxshivi703 25 pike pushups now 💪
@@mxdbro8754when you do a handstand don’t do a hand stand in the palm of your hands but center
i can't even stand straight how am i supposed to do this? 😂
Well now. Start with some wall progressions. None of us was able to do this kinda stuff when we first started out. You have to spend some time training. Soon you will break through and make it work :)
This video is simple, short, to the point, yet so informative. Great job brotha
I need a personal trainer for this i think
Come to LA or to one of my workshop locations. Let’s make it happen!! I also teach online a lot
I mostly fall over balanced,
I can handstand push up but I can pull up💀

Homie had a spider on his leg 🕷
So when I do handstands I fall back but when I trued to copy you I fell forwards and my finger hurts so bad
The stretch tall tip was really useful
I cant stop leaning forward when attemoting handstands ive looked at multiole vids and websites and still cant get it right
Hey, this is a rather common problem many athletes experience when first learning to handstand. The issue often lays in scapula elevation. Film yourself from the side and analyze what is going on. Train at the wall. A lot! This will help you tremendously.
Sometimes I can hold it for more than 40 s and sometimes I can't hold it even 10 sc 😢i don't know why
Hey. Don’t worry. This is quite normal at the beginning. Most athletes struggle with this. You have to analyze what you do differently in the sets when it works compared to the ones when it does not work well. Get a mental check list that you go through in every single set. If you don’t know exactly what you are doing during your set (when to breath, where to look, what to engage etc) than you can not expect 2 sets ever to be the same
This was amazing but i find it so hard to push myself away from a wall w this trick
That is the idea. It is not the easiest way to get off the wall but a great way to train and actually improve your handstands!
❤
Great insight
Thank you :) glad it’s helpful! How is your handstand training going?
@@CoachBachmann i only started today dude, i feel a lot of pain and pressure in my wrist... Any tips
@@shahidchaudhary52 yeah. Damn. That’s exciting. Big journey that you are about to get in! Make sure you start slowly! Progressively overload. Don’t do too much right away. Your form will also play a major role when it comes to pressure on the wrists so keep your sets and even training shorter for the quality of your handstand to be better! Make sure you check out my podcast episode on how to get started training handstands at home. That’ll be a great resource for you!
@@CoachBachmann alright, thanks brother
I dont think thats the problem with me learning a handstand 😢
Now that we know the problem we can push the solution ;)
Woah
Do you need to brace or suck your stomach in when you handstand? I can rep freestanding handstand push ups but still can’t handstand consistently. I used to brace bc if I try to suck my belly in my hips pike or my back arches.
So excited to try this out.
Ok that’s was probably my biggest mistake about the handstand I will try to learn it again
why do guys shave their arms and legs? I'm asking seriously
I have one hairy leg and one shaved leg. So when i lay in bed and rub them against each other it feels like i have a girlfriend. I think that is the main reason for most people. Definitely.
Ok. Now I understand xD
You shave your legs bro?
@@VigilantVegan777 trimmed for aerodynamics
Wow i tried doing that but i failed😢
It's only take one to two week if you work proper
Aweesome tips brother
Appreciate it!

Thx
After doing a handstand for like 14 seconds, i have a headache for like 3 hours straight and feel dizzy. Does anyone know why?
Because you're upside down, and blood is rushing to your head.
Quite good video to explain itt
Glad you liked it! Thank you :)
@@CoachBachmann thanks you, master
Cool.Hahaha thank you.
How do you build the core strength to be able to do a handstand by just lifting both your legs up. Is this a certain type of handstand?
It’s called a press to handstand and it’s actually surprisingly little about core strength. Yes you need a strong core to create favorable alignment but big picture this is more about arm and shoulder strength. Back strength and technique
Bruh i try it when i try it i lose of balamce
Practice at the wall. Work Slide Aways and these kinds of exercises that I talk about in my other videos. You will get it so quickly!
Keep elevate my Bulgarian spirit
I just keep falling
I almost broke my toe today bc i was doing a handstand and my friend made me laugh so i fell on my toe
Sounds like you need to get new friends who take handstands more serious?
I will do that today i no how
Do I need to have 180 flexibility to get a straight handstand
I have really tight shoulders
Well. If there is an angle at your shoulders your handstand won’t be perfectly straight. BUT look at the Olympics or people doing one arm handstands. You’ll find a handful of outstanding athletes who don’t have a perfect line but absolutely dominate when it comes to control. You do not need straight shoulders. You need tall shoulders. Elevate your scapula!
@@CoachBachmann I'm doing exercises to open up my shoulders. I can't get move my arms in line to my ears
It won’t happen over night. Increasing should flexibility takes time. Head over to my website coachbachmann.com there you’ll find a knowledge base. Check out the article “handstands & tight shoulders” in the first “how to handstand” category. You’ll also find a free shoulder opening workout on that page. Let me know if it helps

That animation helped so much🙏

Is it ok if my eye turns red when i do handstand?
That is not normal but happens to beginners a lot. Your eyes and head are not used to the pressure. You have to dial it back significantly and progressively overload your body with a little bit more pressure every day
You nailed it. Straight to the point
haha no pun intended but trying to get to the point quickly when helping people how to get their handstand straight
Master key❤👌👌 tip bro

BRAVOOOO!!!!!
Okay quick question do you need upper-body strength to do??
no shit
😂😂😂
Try doing this with your head in line with your arms and not looking down at your hands.
That will make things significantly harder ;)
