How to gain control in your handstand

  • There are lots of misconceptions of how a handstand should work. The goal of many acrobatic or gymnastics movements is to make them as easy as possible. The handstand is not quite like that! Yes, we want to make it easier on the arms, shoulders and back by aligning us but we need to keep it hard and heavy on the fingers.
    As long as you lean into your toes or your fingertips you can control the amount of lean but pushing into the floor more or less. You are in charge of what happens with your body. You can manipulate your figure by adapting the pressure you put into the floor.
    Theoretically, the further you lean the less possible it becomes to fall. Unfortunately, the truth is that your lean is highly limited by wrist strength and mobility. Finding this perfect spot of how far to lean to have control yet to lean little enough to stay heathy is vital.

    This actually made it better omgg for those who dont get it,
    Basically you dont handstand in ur palm, you do it in front of your arms, and if you are about to fall in front you have to push ue fingers to your palm of your hand and if you are falling backwards you have to use your finger tips to push forward

    I’m getting good at handstands, and honestly this is the single thing that made me get better almost overnight. When I realized how to balance using my hands, instead of my legs, it made all the difference. I keep my weight a little past the point of balance over my head and use my fingertips to keep myself from tipping and it works great. Good tip!

      Hey, this is a rather common problem many athletes experience when first learning to handstand. The issue often lays in scapula elevation. Film yourself from the side and analyze what is going on. Train at the wall. A lot! This will help you tremendously.

    • @CoachBachmann
      @CoachBachmann  17 днів тому

      Hey. Don’t worry. This is quite normal at the beginning. Most athletes struggle with this. You have to analyze what you do differently in the sets when it works compared to the ones when it does not work well. Get a mental check list that you go through in every single set. If you don’t know exactly what you are doing during your set (when to breath, where to look, what to engage etc) than you can not expect 2 sets ever to be the same
