    This video was awesome, thank you! I'm a white belt and have a couple submissions I go to, but my main focus has been defense, escapes and guard retention. I'm making good progress with it but I feel I don't see enough submissions attempts for myself, understandably so as I get smashed all day.
    I want to at the very least to start seeing the opportunity's while rolling.

    I like how you threw in the straight ankle, when I started bjj I came in at weird time at the gym and one of my first subs I learned was an ankle lock from a bottom entry and really expanded my game from the jump and gave me something most other white belts didn’t have in my area, 2.5 years later and it’s still a huge part of my game

    • @jedidoesjiujitsu3177
      @jedidoesjiujitsu3177  4 роки тому +8

    Hi there! This video helped me a lot and showed me all of the variations of submissions that you can do or the ones that you might want to look out for. This tutorial was very straight foward and it was very clear what you had to do. I do have one tip for if you read this: If you want to make a video for beginners, you should make a version where the submission or any bjj attack or defense would be in slow speed so that it looks a bit more clear what you have to hold or what you have to move in order to pull the move off so that no one gets any confusion.(Because it happened to me 💀) I hope you read this, good luck, and keep up the good work!

    as a wrestler that never learned submissions and how to deal with people exposing their back, this is really helpful. I have been thinking about getting into BJJ now that I am getting back in shape.
    I would say from my wrestling experience the rear naked choke and the arm triangle seem like the most applicable for me as a beginner at submissions, but with grappling experience
    the ones using limbs seem like they really require much practice and repetition and understanding the feel. aka lots of actual hands on experience for them to actually work as intended
    i would always find myself sparring with people at gyms when asked to go and i would always end up on top from the feet within a minute and then just hold guard on them cuz i didnt know what to do to finish lol

    As a BJJ newbie I've had good success with the Paper Cutter choke and the Americana. Some one in the comments mentioned that the BJJ community is so nice, which broadly I agree with. I think it has to do with the humbling that happens. BJJ is a legit fighting discipline where someone way smaller & weaker can dominate a larger/stronger albeit lower skilled fighter - that, I have found, can pacify agro dudes. However, like anywhere in life, there will always be jerks who have something to prove and are looking to hurt people. A good academy will weed those types of people out, and will foster a culture of care and respect.

    Have never been to a single BJJ class in my life and not even a fitness person in general. How the hell did I fall into this rabbit hole of these videos. It's 5am, can't stop🤦‍♀

    I just started and worked with a purple belt. I locked in my first ankle lock without any teaching. Film has been my best friend late nights. I submitted my teammate in class who has more experience and while we were in class, I watched him attempt to leg lock his sparring partner. I felt so accomplished! 🥋💪😏 Jedi hit me up

    Key lock is my go to, have been getting better at the Kimura from guard. Learning leg locks now. Triangle I have determined not me, I'm short stalky and by the time I get my legs around for the figure 4 around the head half my body is off the ground already . Love the rear naked choke as well. Teaching myself the Ezekiel choke on my grappling dummy Love chokes
