  • LG 47LW6500-UA led lcd tv how to replace/swap mainboard, tv power light comes/turns on but no picture/video no sound/audio only power light is on, no image, blank black screen. In this video I show how to replace an led lcd tv mainboard on an LG led lcd tv that has a power light that turns on but has no picture or sound due to the bad tv mainboard which was caused by a lightning strike during a thunderstorm. This LG led lcd tv was left on during a thunderstorm and we had a lightning strike hit our cable service boxes.

    So this ended up solving my problem for only 50 bucks. What's funny is I took the TV to a TV repair shop and the guy saw that the screen was flickering and said that there's no way that this is going to fix my problem and said that the LED lights will need to be replaced. He refused to do the job for $225. I took the TV back home and watched your video and I can't believe this worked for only $50. The guy at the shop missed out on a job that would have paid a lot more.

    Nice video well done. I repair tvs for a living. Just letting you know that the issue has nothing to do with lightning strikes etc. These LG models have a common fault that makes them do this. It's almost every model around the 2011 release that are susceptible. You may find with time the same thing could happen to this new board.
    You can normally fix the issue on the main board by removing it. Taking off the large black heat since that sits over the main chip and reflowing it with a heat gun or 8 minutes in the oven at a particular temperature. Just google 'main board relow'. Basically over time the solder joints crack and become disconnected. Hope this helps!

    • @jamiewagner
      @jamiewagner  5 років тому +1

      Thanks so much for sharing this! I did see some videos that these boards have that issue and you have to do that with the heat gun. It was weird because as soon as we heard the thunder hit right after the lighting outside like right outside the dang window it was super loud the tv went out and stopped working so did the cable service. I think for this one that’s what happened but I know what your saying is a common issue and the viewers to this video will appreciate your feedback on this because they Might be having that exact issue. So thanks so much for leaving such a helpful comment!!! Have a good one!!

    Excellent video Jamie! I am having almost the exact same issues with my Panasonic TC-39AS530U. TV turns on, screen flickers 3 times (I can see the LED lights flickering in the back), then I get a blank screen with 1 LED flicker (error code 1 I assume) then just a slowly blinking red LED. There is no sound and I can't turn it off with the remote. I have to press and hold the power button on the side of the unit or unplug it to turn it off. I have tested my power supply board. ALL 3 test points (standby, LED driver, and main board) maintain voltage when it goes from power on to blinking light. However, the pins on the connector for the main board and driver board go from 16V and 24V respectively down to 0 when the light starts to blink.
    There are 3 test points on the main board, 5.3V, 12V, and 15V. The 5.3V (standby) maintains voltage when it goes from power on to blinking light, the other two do not, they go to 0. Would that, along with voltages being maintained on the power supply board, indicate that this main board is bad? I really hope that is the case as I do not want to get into replacing LED strips. Thanks and keep up the great work! P.S. I have put in new power supply and T-con boards and the problem continues.

    I have an LG tv with the no picture no sound issue. How come if I turn it off and back on the tv will work for a bit? When there is no picture,the tv is still backlit. It almost acts like something that overheats but the tv is cool to the touch everywhere. When I get the picture and sound on it will work for either 1 minute or sometimes up to 10 minutes. What do I do?👀

    My LG model 55LE5400 is doing almost the same thing, but I am getting audio. Audio, and bezel lights up. There is no video output at all , no display at all on LCD. Tried resetting power, no effect. Tried all inputs and volume increases with remote. No Logo displayed on boot up. Please advise as to what I can do to have this unit repaired at little to no cost. Tried heating in toaster over at 380F for 10 minutes to no avail. No visible issues on the main board. No bulging caps, etc...
    TV is cosmetically pristine and used very lightly, was very surprised that this happened. Any Suggestions?

    • @jamiewagner

      Not 100% sure but it might be your main board as well, have you tried all the different HDMI ports? be sure to try them all first and see if that makes a difference. My issue was due to a thunderstorm/lightning strike. So I am not sure if yours would be the same issue. It could be your main board like mine in this video but I can't advise for sure.

    Your too cute, I love how you made this seem so easy, no problem. And made it sound like lightening striking the box was a normal occurrence! Your hilarious! You must be an electrician or something. Lol, this never worked for us when we tried to fix our tv in the past. Had a guy come to the house still nothing worked. I bet you must get millions of questions from people trying to fix their tv problems. We have an old but good tv, 2006 Panasonic High Definition Plasma TH-42PX600U, the volume stopped working on the Dish Network remote but the buttons and volume on the tv itself stopped working also. Is this something fixable do you think?

    • @jamiewagner
      @jamiewagner  5 років тому +1

      Lol well thanks! It sounds like it could possibly be fixable both the tv and remote I mean I’m not a professional but I guess you would have to check with someone who does tv repair and see if it’s worth it to possibly attempt to fix it. You might end up having to pay something to get it fixed. Not sure..

    • @ilovecornell
      @ilovecornell 5 років тому

      Jamie Wagner thank you, your right, I think I may start with calling Panasonic to see what they can tell me and yes I’d have to check with a tv repair person to see if it’s worth fixing, I’m not so sure with TVs this old if it’s worth it, my dad paid over 2k for it in 2006 but it literally is on almost 24/7 so more then the volume could possibly stop working soon, plasmas usually only last about 10 yrs from what I hear, not sure if that’s true but, thank you for the info I appreciate it.

    I would take off "Fix/Repair" of your video title and instead label as "LG LED LCD Main Board Replacement" or "Swap". I assumed a fix/repair would go over the steps to test and determine what board or part is defective. A swap of boards is easy, yes, however there are still those of us that would like to know why and or what part of the board is faulty. Your title is technically false and misleading.

    • @jamiewagner
      @jamiewagner  5 років тому

      Thank you Cristen I think you right and I apologize for it to seem misleading, not my intention at all, I’m probably going to change the title to what your suggesting it sounds good and a lot more related to the video. I was just hoping it helped others out with similar issue. I wish I could have test the board and showed more steps like that but I don’t have the correct gadgets to do that. I fixed the Title and the description to better fit the video! Thanks!!👍

      I really had know way of testing it, I just figured since it had power and was having no power issues that it wasn't the power supply, so I moved on to the main board. I guess I got lucky because I never tested it, probably not the best option to do but I just kept my fingers crossed that I was right considering my issue, so I went a head and replaced it and since this video the TV has worked perfectly since. Still using it every day. Had the issue been it didn't power on at all then I would have assumed the power supply first.

    Hey sir, could u answer me this please. Do u think it is posible that my usb hard drive damage my tv? I watched movie of my usb hard drive and suddenly my tv freezed, black screen and on repair they said that tv cpu or motherboard burned, is it posible that usb hard drive that does not have adapet and is powered by tv could do this?

    • @jamiewagner

      I guess anything is possibly maybe the TVs power supply was over working trying to keep that usb drive powered on all the time but you would think that it could handle that as it shouldn’t require that much draw

      did you replace the ribbon cables too? its very unusual to have no audio if you have replaced power board and main board. with the tv on, and the room lights off, shine a flashlight onto the screen and check if there in an image, if so then your LEDs are shorted, nonetheless you should still get audio tho.

    • @jamiewagner
      @jamiewagner  6 років тому +1

      47 sec into the video where i'm pointing to the label on the back you can try and pause the video so you can see to the left of my finger where it says SVC CODE, this is the service code. I typed it into Google and search around online until I found and exact mainboard match. That's how you should do it, if you have a newer TV then it will be easier for you to find a new board but mine is older and I had to really dig to find one and when I did finally find it it was $88.00. My TV is completely fixed now.
