Izumo class - Japan returns aircraft carriers
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 лип 2024
- Izumo is a class of multi-purpose destroyers created for the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Forces in the 2010s. The class includes 2 ships: Izumo and Kaga, which supplemented the 2 previously built smaller ships of the same class in the fleet: Hyuga and Ise.
Due to constitutional restrictions on the Japanese armed forces, it is formally considered an escort ship and destroyer. However, at the moment, the Izumo and Kaga are considered the largest warships created by the country since the end of World War II. In this regard, there are assumptions that, although the Izumo class is declared as a destroyer-helicopter carrier, but, technically, it is capable to operate combat aircraft that have the functions of short take-off and vertical landing. Lockheed Martin F-35B fighters are the obvious contender for the appearance on the Izumo deck. Such a decision would potentially mean the appearance of two aircraft carriers in the Japanese fleet.

*The **_JS Izumo_* completed flight deck retrofits for markers, lights, and additional load- and heat resistance to accommodate the F-35B in June 2021, _over a month_ before this video was uploaded. Plans to operate F-35B's from the Izumo class were revealed way back in 2017, and approved by Japanese lawmakers in 2018. Two USMC F-35B's completed takeoff and landing cycles on the _JS Izumo_ in October 2021, and the _JS Kaga_ entered modification in March of this year.
*TL;DR* This video is waaay behind.
Japan firm ordered and the U.S. approved F35B x42 units(excluding undisclosed quantity of options for additional future deliveries from the Fort Worth assembly line) years ago. In fact, delivery of the 1st 6 units will not only be imminent but actually will be deployed(initially at a land base in eastern Kyushu) next year.
This UA-cam from last yr still guessing whether Japan would operate F35B was so outdated.

Multipurpose Carrier sounds like a proper name for Izumo. Despite what Japan has done to my country Malaysia during World War 2, I will not protest its approach to having Aircraft Carriers again thanks to China.

I think in light of the growing threat of China, that Japan should be able to have the ability to defend herself.
Defense also does not have to be purely reactionary, ie. putting your hands up to block an incoming punch. It can also be proactive, ie. kicking someone in the balls before they start to throw that punch.
The line between proactive defense and offense blurs a bit, thus one really has to be careful. But this shouldn't preclude it altogether.

All in this case is compared with Chinese Navy capabilities, since that is the threat Japan is most likely going to face, not the US Navy.
@@dinoco3672 the U.S. definitely makes the best aircraft carriers, but japan made good ones and one of the few countries that has experience with aircraft carrier operations aside from the U.S. and U.K.
@@power3480 what was good about them?
@@dinoco3672 Japan had quickly learned the value of the aircraft carrier as early as the 30s, especially in the tactical value they had. Well Japanese carriers tended to be similar to other countries carriers at the time. They had a well rounded operation that allowed them to quickly land and launch fighters at a timely manner and how to use the fleet they had to support the carriers. Overall the quality of a Japanese carrier was on par with American carriers, with American carriers being heavier and durable able to carry more fighters and munitions, and Japanese carriers being lighter and overall a little faster with the Shokaku class being much faster.
The point stands however that of all the nations to have experience in carrier operations. The one with the best experience next to the US is the Japanese. Well the UK did use carriers it wasn't at the scale of that of the Japanese or the US and other nations only ever fielded at least 2 to 3 max.
Only the US and Japanese fielded multiple carriers in a war, and thanks to being a US ally since the end of WW2 the Japanese has likely had plenty of opportunities to participate in wargames with US carrier fleet perhaps even participating in carrier defense and operations never mind that the US has a base in Japan that allows it to dock super carriers so, the Japanese likely haven't been in the dark all this time. They likely can quickly adapt what they knew of carrier operations in the past they had and adapt US style of operations to create a new type necessary for their needs.
Hey, we've been waiting on you! 😄
Welcome back)
There’s actually plans for a third izumo
The name is rather ironic but actually makes sense since the third izumo will be named after a really famous battleship that is well respected worldwide. As a battleship she had been kept back until Leyte Gulf and her doomed fate in Okinawa, but now she is being brought to life, more powerful than ever before.
The Yamato is back!
(Edit: they cancelled it and simply forgot about it)
Well the name is for a reason, it would be very hard to not refference a older imperial ship espically since their name sakes come from Japanese provinces
Ironically considering the ship class, all of the present and proposed Izumo-class namesakes in WW2 were sunk by carrier-based aircraft.
Adding a third Izumo class will create problems for JMSDF like manpower and more escort ships (Akizuki class and more Aegis destroyers).
That's why they extensively used automation on their Mogami class frigates as the whole JSDD is still struggling in manpower and recruitment issues.
The one in leyte gulf is not the yamato. It was the yamato's sister ship MUSASHI. A little bit smaller than yamato.
@clarkjosephkent2876 I think they're referring to the fact the the Battle of Leyte Gulf was the first major (If you could even call it that) action the Yamato saw in the Pacific theater. Both the Yamato and the Musashi took part in the battle, ending with the Musashi being sunk by American dive bomber and torpedo aircraft, and the Yamato surviving until April of 1945 when the Yamato was sunk by American carrier based aircraft while attempting to defend the island of Okinawa and preventing American forces from landing during Operation Tēn-go.
At the very least when you look at tonnage, Japan has one of the largest navies in the world.
Personally I think it obvious that the Japan of today, is not the same as the Japan that attacked Pearl Harbor.
Given what China is up to, I think it would be idiotic for Japan to not upgrade their abilities.

Related news, US Marine Corps f-35s were operating off the Izumo for testing and the class will be converted to aircraft carriers.
Modern Germany: We do have an army, but it is utterly broken, because we did not spend any money on it.
Modern Japan: We do not have an army, but it has top notch equipment, just in case.
Japan does have the worlds 3rd largest Navy though.
Last I read the Japanese government has been working on a plan to revise their constitution to be able to build full aircraft carriers much like our ( United States) super carriers. After WWII Japan was forbidden to construct full aircraft carriers. I’d like to see this change given the threats from China on some of the more distant Japanese home islands.
Japanese wouldn't need nuclear carriers. Ones based on the Kitty-Hawk class would be more than sufficient for Japan's needs. 2 or 3 mixed with the smaller ones currently being built right now, backed up by the super carriers of the US pacific fleet would be more than enough to ground China's ambitions.
The constitution bans offensive weapons not aircraft carriers.
@@adventwolfbane Ahh but thats the thing. The carriers can and have been used as a offensive weapon. When they were used to target and destroy Pearl Harbor's fleet.
Its similar to the situation with the Germans in WW1 when the allies literally stripped the German's of the airforce they had especially the German bi-planes that were fantastic machines that was top of the line at the time.

Japan: It's a destroyer-helicopter carrier only!
F-35B: And I'm just a helicopter!
Coincedentally enough. The IJN Ise and Hyuuga were battleships in the Imperial Japanese Navy. They were later schedualed to become aviation battleships but were suck towards the end of the war. So the Hyuuga class carriers being built on destoryer hulls (Pls fact check me) is kind of cool
The current Hyuga class helicopter destroyers were not based on any JMSDF or any foreign destroyer design. It's just that the Japanese found a loophole (again) in making ships to counter the aggression of both China and North Korea.
Ise & Hyuga were converted from pure BBs 2 artial aviation BBs by the removal of their 2 after main turrets w/ a towering seaplane platform, & fought in this form @ Leyte Gulf, as part of the northern decoy force under Adm. Ozawa. Remarkably, they survived this action, being later neutralized in home waters.
The Japanese Navy, of whatever era & under whatever name, looks majestic @ sea & upholds a long & potent tradition, which carries much weight. One would need 2 have been blind not 2 have seen this fleet's power as it reemerged in the 1960s. Do not B on the receiving end of its attentions if this can B avoided
Its about time...Japan, South Korea and Taiwan need to defend themselves, each other since being the first line of defense/containment of China. South Korea is planning a Light Carrier to go along with it's two Helicopter Carriers and Japan is modifying 2 of it's 4 Helicopter Carriers to handle F-35B. It is important for all three nations to build up their defense capabilities, thus relieving US and NATO allies from this duty.
South Korea is working with the Chinese. So I would not count on South Korea to defend against China.
Rearming Japan only serves the interests of the US military at the moment. In order to counter America's desire to have countless bases surrounding China Amerika now wants Japan to rearm themselves. After pouring money into China from moving American manufacturing to China and taking advantage of all of that cheap Chinese labor the American taxpayer is now being told that China is a military threat and the US taxpayer has to foot the bill and throw huge money at the US military industrial complex. Having governments being owned outright by Corporations and multinational banks is a very bad idea which we've seen in action since WW1. Throughout WW2 when it was impossible for the US regime to get themselves out of the Great Depression so they started another World War and had to basically push Japan into attacking the USA, the end result was the destruction of the Axis powers and the spread of International Communism over half the planet for the next 45 years and 100 million dead murder victims of said Communists. Now we're being led into another WW.
South Korea scraped the light carrier and instead is going for a bigger medium-sized carrier, CATOBAR equipped version.

think about this - Japan had 2 nukes dropped on it, capitulated in the ww2, has no oil, not a lot of farmland, builds 4 quite modern aircraft carriers - manufactures everything themselves
russia - won in the ww2, didn't get nuked, has lots of oil, lots of farmland, has all the natural resources it needs in its lands, has 50% larger population - has 1 carrier that is falling apart, smuggles tank targeting systems from abroad, can't sustain its industry without imported parts
How about small aircraft carriers with drones and a lot of it that can launch and defends itself.
No these carriers were noticed, it is in considering the military build up of China that getting the offensive weapon like a carrier looks more like defence than a return to Japan's old ways.
Yes World political scene has changed greatly There is now a strong need for a strong navy to protect Japan They should be allowed to grow their fleet One could speculate whether other aggressive countries in the area would be so if their fleet was at its previous size
These 2 Helicopter Escorts Carriers are modified to carry F35C Stealth lightning Fighters on board.
When do they lay the keel of the IJN Yonaga?
As I understand it, they could be allowed, but most of their people are against building a strong aggressive naval capability!
Pearl Harbor: “Hey I’ve seen this one before”
"...Uchuu senkaiiii....Yamatooo...."
Does it carry Aircraft? Then yes it IS an Aircraft Carrier.
Only like a month ago I read article that us marines are flying there F35B with new Japanese F35B off the one not a carrier just like England carrier
"Or is it just playing with decks?" LOL
Tuyệt vời lắm 👍👏👏💯
