India's 5th Gen Aircraft | HAL AMCA

- Опубліковано 12 тра 2024
- In recent months we have looked at several new fifth-gen fighters, and how they may revolutionise foreign air forces. The first was the South Korean KAI KF-21, a twin-engine, twin-seat multirole aircraft with comparable goals to the F-35. The second was the Turkish TAI TF Kaan, a multirole fighter to replace the F-16. Both aircraft have taken their maiden flights.
Today, we will look at India’s domestic solution; a fifth-gen aircraft known as the HAL Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft, or AMCA.

As Indian I would like to put some insights into project :
Actually AMCA as a Concept was proposed since 2010 but however for some reason (Probably too much Trust on India-Russia PAK-FA which later become Su57 ) the IAF didn't proceed further with AMCA Development and it remained only a proposed Concept till 2019 when IAF realized the Aircraft being developed under PAK FA won't suit Indian Requirements and Eventually HAL Pulled out of Partnership.
Initially it was Planned by IAF that India will First Induct Aircraft developed by PAK FA and then the Technologies from PAK FA would be Integrated into AMCA.
However when IAF realized the PAK FA Project with Russia is Falling apart they decided to Back the AMCA Project Finnaly after freaking 9 Years. Then Aeronautical Development Authority started working on AMCA and initial design was ready by end of 2021.
It's when IAF made another BLUNDER that was to form a Special Purpose Vechile model for Developing and Manufacturing AMCA but what happened next was No Private Company showed intrest in entering SPV rathe the Private Players used this to Manipulate the Government to finalize the MMRCA 2.0 procurement programme after which they would join the SPV ( LIke TATA's with Lokheed Martin wanted IAF to buy F21 or F15 under MMRCA 2.0 after whixh TATA would join AMCA SPV)
This Shenanigans continued till March 2024 when MoD Finnaly scrapped the SPV Model for AMCA and Allocated 2 Billion USD for Developing 5 Prototypes in next 5-6 Years. Meanwhile ADA had completed CDR for AMCA and have reportedly built simulator for AMCA Cockpit ( Photos were Leaked online ) First AMCA is Expected to roll out by 2027-29 if everything goes right. Meanwhile GTRE Have started revamping Kaveri Engine Program to make a 90KN Kaveri engine while it will also Partner with a Foreign Partner ( Likely Rolls Royce / Saffran ) to develope 110KN engine which would then replace GE Engines in AMCA MK1 and MK2
Su-57 is already out in the battle, isn't it? Now got it's own engine too.
@@aniksamiurrahman6365 but not truly stealthy
@@HimanshuMahajan-zn3nq Reports from Ukriane says, Patriot radar managed to detect their presence a few time, but couldn't get a lock. And quite a few times patriots failed to detect Su-57 and got wacked [Source: WarInUkriane YT channel, DeepStateUA, Rybar]. So, Su-57 is as much stealthy as it goes. I bet AMCA will be far worse than Su-57 in Stealth, EW and given how poor Tejas is, will be a s**t in aerodynamics.
Excuses and lazyness of PSU's/ govt departments. Govt or IAF would never go with the private players at first place if they worked as per the requirements.

As an Indian, i love the fact how this channel unlike most of wetsern channels doesn't mock indias progress . ❤
As an indian , i can say gladly this project is the most ambitious project in india till date , even more complex than the manufacturing of Aircraft carrier INS Vikrant.
We at ADA wants to develop a AMCA jet in numbers of atleast 4 squadrons with all the possible advanced fifth gen equipments and radars to be as good as the counterparts of US , China, Turkey or Korea.
But as you know this development is much delayed due to democratic and beauracratic process in india.
I see this getting its maiden flight by 2028 and production rollout by 2030s.
I hope ADA, HAL and DRDO meets up with the deadlines and no further delay.

India, Turkey, and China all seem to hit an engineering brick wall with their 5th gen engine design.
Its about making an engine that can fly thousands of hours and still be managable. India and Turkey can produce engines right away but to get them to work for 10 or 20 years is pain in the ass. For example to buy f35 is relatively cheap but to maintain them is very expensive. You need to get everyting right with engines no room for error. Im not fan of USA but they do make the best jets and engines!
well exclude china coz they made the j-20.
the main reason why is that 5th gen fighters are more expensive to maintain than their 4th gen counterparts.
@@skgamer-zs6en True, and the avionics, electronics, and advanced radar systems need to use (military-grade) tier-one motherboards and microprocessors that only Germany, Norway, and the United States can manufacture.

It has taken India eons to finally build their indigenous fighter "Tejas". Good luck 🤞
First one must understand that India had no experience in building a second generation let alone a 4 th generation fighter aircraft. Arms import was the order of the day with not one defence deal not mired in controversy. The realisation of self dependence came rather late. The indigenous LCA is an achievement for the technocrats associated with the project. The most heartening thing is that with each new model which are numbered as Mark 1 etc the aircraft is becoming more potent. The newer variants are quite capable of fulfilling their role . They are going to be the work horse of the IAF. With a passage of time the aviation ecosystem is going to mature just like the IT industry.
Yeah but it wasn’t ONLY building a jet but an entire industry including highly advanced supply chains
@@AshishBagade-hv4el Yes. It is very convenient to downplay the achievement made by the ADA team and trash HAL etc even remotely associated with the program. Some credit where due must go to Mr. Modi( however how much one hates him). He put his foot down on imports and asked the ADA and HAL and IAF to work in tandem to develop an aircraft for its needs. Though not the latest and greatest the LCA is gradually maturing as an aerial platform. It is no means achievement for country accustomed to mediocrity and corruption. With greater participation of the private sector the ecosystem is bound to improve for they are not the ones to tolerate incompetence.

India's growth as a military technology producer, gives a lot of countries a new option as thier own defense supplier, rather then being tied down to the US, Russian, and Chinese manufacturers.
Instead, Indian, Turkish and EU suppliers that don't come with the baggage and forced influence of the three major nations. For a lot of smaller countries, having to get their military hardware from the three majors, ties them in as sympathisers to those major nations, something their neighbouring countries might feel threatened by. Light Combat Aircraft - HAL Tejas took 30 years, let see how long HAL AMCA will take.
The prototype is on the way, the Indian government approved 3 months ago, DRDO already successfully tested all technology regarding this.
It was because of different govt at that time which took many years.... But current government is doing good 👍
It took 30 years because the ADA branch of DRDO was formed just then, the country was struggling and was being ruled by corrupt lunatics, tensions and dangers of conflict were at an all time high and everything had to be started from absolute scratch
The country's aerospace ecosystem developed alongside with the aircraft.. So yeah on paper it took those years but it was literally everything from scratch.
After 30 years, it still has to use American jet engine.
Now U.S. threatened to sanction India for signing deal with Iran for operating Chabahar port. Oh, well.😲
Many here forget INDIA has a successful and efficient space program. The country is planning to send astronauts to the moon. How many countries have such potential besides the superpowers? Yes, a 5th generation fighter jet is a whole different ball game..too much complexities but i'm sure INDIA can manage it. Starting out something is always difficult but if this AMCA project succeeds and is truly indigenous it would give a colossal boost to India's defense manufacturing capabilities and soon the knowledge from AMCA can be used to develop and research on a 6th Generation fighter jet.
I think so in somewhere in April it was announced that the metal cutting for the prototype has been started.
As an American, I’m glad to see other NATO allies stepping up and creating their own fifth gen fighter jets. 👍🏼
It's great to see videos with that information and details but I like to mention that due to the delayed time of production of AMCA it is in speculation and even some hints have been given that it will have 6 th Gen. Capabilities so it would be good to assume it as a 6th gen fighter plane.
India is now 4th largest economy in the world surpassing Japan. Ultimately, manufacturing 5th Gen. Aircraft dreams will come true. Pakistan will be jealous. Pad kya karega😂

Apart from the Soviet Union, India holds the distinction of being the first Asian country to develop its own fighter jet. However, despite this early achievement, India faced setbacks due to corruption and a lack of visionary leadership, which hindered its progress in this field.
Despite the initial success in developing indigenous fighter jets, such as the HAL HF-24 Marut in the 1960s, India's aerospace ambitions suffered from challenges such as bureaucratic hurdles, inefficiencies, and corruption within the defense establishment. These issues not only hampered the development and production of fighter jets but also affected the overall growth of the aerospace industry in the country.
Additionally, the absence of sustained investment in research and development, coupled with a lack of long-term strategic planning, further impeded India's ability to compete on a global scale in the aerospace sector. Without strong leadership and a clear vision for the future, we struggled to leverage its early achievements in fighter jet production to establish itself as a major player in the global aerospace industry.
Despite these challenges, India has continued to invest in its aerospace capabilities and has made strides in recent years with initiatives such as the Tejas Light Combat Aircraft program. However, addressing issues such as corruption and bureaucratic inefficiencies remains crucial for us to fully realize our potential as a leader in aerospace innovation and production.
Incorrect. The Japanese developed the "Nakajima Kikka" at the end of WW2. In addition the 'Marut' was powered by British engines, so it was not entirely native. Neither is this proposal which is proposed to be powered by GE F414 engines.

At present it is on the drawing board. Once the first prototype flies then only a realistic evaluation of its capability can be made. However if adequate funding is made then surely Indian engineers can deliver a modern stealth aircraft. The LCA program has been a great learning experience.
Man! Aussies in the comment section are so awesome.
Some additional info: India already have significant experience in engine development as we have GTRE GTX30s KAVERI which is equivalent to GE-F404, and its dry variant is already one of best out there and will be used in Stealth UCAV Ghatak. weapon pakage for AMCA is already developed as BVR Astra and WVR NGCCM, As for glide bombs DRDO SHAW. and contract For development of DAS sensor has already being awarded.
Engine performance is important, but durability is more important.
Can you trust the durability of Indian engines?
@@honshin23 AMCA will not use kaveri, kaveri is for Tejas and its already certified engine but due to weight constraints, the new weight reduction exercises has already been started
@@honshin23Whats indian engine? And why are you generalising it by any country? We have Isro which is doing pretty good according to its budget.
Kaveri engine performance is not that bad in harsh conditions only its thrust power is not upto the mark.
I read recently that GTRE is making a Kaveri 2.0 with severe weight reductions and improvements to afterburner and engine core performance. I hope this becomes reality soon. Tejas’ production rates are highly affected due to our reliance on American engines.
@@honshin23 Yes that was a concern until India developed there own special alloys for the fins a few months ago ,so now they have joined the club that only a few are in USA ,China,UK,Sweden ,France ,Russia .Its means it can stand more heat more stress go faster and longer Its already made 90% radar paint that only two countries have
India has proved in 2 of it's defence sector it's capabilities (navy and army)

Lockheed must be very flattered to watch the whole world create slight variations of their aircraft designs again and again.
Scientific truth is only one. Everybody has to converge at that truth some day.
Haha. That's hilarious. What you need to understand is no one is designing their jets based on US designs. The designs are made based on stealth features. To attain maximum stealth capability, shape of the aircraft is very important. That's the reason all stealthy 5th generation aircraft's have some similarity. Doesn't matter who or how they design it.
@@Mrs-Albert as though every country is spending hundreds of millions in R&D to discover those designs instead of copying those who do.

If you're a country and you want to build stealth aircraft. The first thing you have to learn is that you never line up the air inlets with the front of the engines. If you do, you instantly make the RCS about 1 square meter because the radar waves will bounce off of those fan blades all day long!
This is what happens when one does not see the video and comments fly . There is an entire section on divertless intakes to reduce radar bounce off the blades . Watch again

Timstamp 4:00 to 4:15 - The conclusion here is somewhat erroneous. DSI Intakes and Serpentine Ducting are separate design issues. There are modern supersonic combat aircraft, like the F-22, that have serpentine ducting to hide the face of the turbine engine. It has been known at least since the 1990s as a way of reducing the aircraft's radar signature. The real benefit of the DSI intake is its reduced complexity. No splitter plate is needed, or a variable intake system to keep a smooth air ingestion into the engine. This also reduces the radar signature as there are no longer any complex sharp edged (radar) reflective surfaces on the intake. The drawback to the DSI system is that this intake limits the top speed to around Mach 2. Any faster, and the DSI would not be able to handle the airflow into the engine. Again, this is why the F-22 does not have DSI. but a splitter type intake. The DSI is also a good indication of what the possible top speed is of an aircraft. In this case, the Chengdu J-20 is limited by its DSI intakes to around Mach 2 or lower.
