A couple hours in and it's really fun to watch a chill and fun tongue in cheek adult discovering the game. Really like how the chat is respectful about not shouting at their screens and constantly giving tips that many know by heart, for many that were around 10 when the game came out, pokemon knowledge is like the Konami code of our generation. Also Pikachu's encounter rate in the forest is 5% and you got it first try and it critted twice in a row the first two times you attacked... blessed rng.
@@TorneOnDemand I think a lot of people downplay the game a lot because it was so heavily marketed to kids. But it still has enough strategy and difficulty even for adults. I quit playing after red and blue and then came back to the series with generation IV. I would love to see you do a play through of Platinum. That’s my favorite out of the whole series to date.
Paris is still my favorite pokemon lol I hate it but I just love them. If I was a trainer, I'd be a creepy bug guy, poisoning everything around me. Toxic AF.
shift means you can switch out your pokemon in a trainer battle after defeating one pokemon, if its set you need to waste one turn to switch out which means youre probably gonna get hit by the opponent pokemon
i'm sure someone's told you by now, but at the beginning you were misinformed, however i'm commenting at the start of this video before watching all the way through. Shift allows you to shift between Pokémon during a trainer battle whenever your opponent is sending a new one Set locks your team order in place, you can manually shift to another Pokémon like normal, but of course it costs you your move for that turn. So it's like upping the difficulty just by a little. With no real difficulty settings for the game, there are some other ways that fans of the games have made the games a higher difficulty. Such as playing with a type disadvantage, or the popular "nuzlocke" that includes homemade rules that include level caps on your Pokémon and perma-death'ing your Pokémon when they faint. Anyway, it's always cool to see people get introduced to the games, Blue was my first back in my childhood. So it's great to tune in.
Gonna be honest with you, I played this so long ago that I don't remember if anything was ever clarified. But knowing my chat, they like to see me suffer and figure things out for myself, so probably not 🤣
The difference between Shift and Set is whether or not you can switch your pokemon when you defeat your opponent's. If set to shift, you'll be told what your opponent is about to send out and whether you want to change accordingly. If "set" you won't be prompted and they'll simply toss out the next Mon. You can change the setting at any point too.
darn wish i had found you when you were streaming this. text speed just changes how fast the text appears on screen, so you still wont miss anything, and shift or set changes if the game gives you a free swap when you KO an enemy Pokemon, for a first time or just casual play through i would say leave it on shift.
Typically my chat doesn't give me any information when I'm doing a first playthrough of something, even if I beg for it. As it turns out with this entire playthrough, I got extremely lucky in a lot of ways, despite knowing next to nothing about the series.
@@TorneOnDemandI get it, it's also really fun watching someone play a game I'm relatively familiar with going through blind. But I also feel like the quality of life/set up type stuff could just make a game more enjoyable for the player. Though text speed is not terribly important unless you're very impatient. Very fun watching this so far though
@@TorneOnDemanddo you have any plans for playing more Pokemon games blind? It would be pretty awesome to see gold, silver or crystal from fresh eyes too (I'm a big silver fan myself)
Pretty much immediately after this game, I started Gold. I stopped because it felt too much like playing the same game. It's something I want to restart/revisit in the future, it's just a matter of when.
I like watching your reaction but to be honest, I skiped about un hour of your play while you were grinding Kirah😂Because I knew that Serrrrrrge could easily defeat Brock. lol

I got lucky with that Pikachu. RNG favored me a lot throughout the entire run. Glad you're enjoying it!
I love this! Seeing your reactions to Pokemon for the first time ever is hilarious and awesome! Such a nostalgia hit.
Glad you're enjoying it! The game was an unexpected blast to play.

Whoever said "shift = battle animations" has no idea what they're talking about.
This was 3 years ago so I don't remember. In cases like this we just blame Kark.
"Your mom's single? Go catch every pokemon in the world"
This is how every Pokémon game I've ever played starts...
I’m 31 and this is just so fun to watch.
It was a blast to play through!
love this experience. only 5 years younger. been playing this since OG Gambeboy.
It definitely goes down as one of the most fun experiences I've had streaming a classic game. I'm very glad I played it.

Being that this was my first playthrough, I'm pretty damn partial to Squirtle and I don't think that'll ever change.

I wish I'd been uploading this as I played so I could go to the comments and actually get an answer to this 🤣
@@TorneOnDemand it took me forever to realize what it was, but now you know for any future games too!
I appreciate the tip!

Glad you're enjoying watching. I was skeptical of playing, but I actually really enjoyed the game a lot.
This is 95% reading your chat and 5% actually playing the game
I like to read my chat, what can I say? But I also disagree. It's more like 90/10.
Lucky bastard. I wish I could re live the og again
It was a blast. Gonna be going through Gold sooner than later.
@@TorneOnDemand awesome mate. I'll be watching. Great job mate.
I love this hahaha I always wanna see my friends play this game for the first time haha it's jokes this is fun content man!
It was super fun playing through this. I went in with 0 expectations and I had an absolute blast by the end.
Nice stream, but sometimes you get stuck talking for too long and I'm here looking at your iddle screen hoping youd get back to the game already.
This is fair, I talk a lot. 🤣
PP for life, loved the video haha
not every thing needs to be turned into a tenuous "that's what she said" joke
otherwise, cool playthrough
We've grown a bit since these days. Not much, but it's something 😆

That's the beauty about a first play. I had no idea what could take on what, so I spent time grinding.
Can you stop talking to chat for 2 seconds and actually play the game?
I'm probably gonna chat twice as much now tbh
