@@infernox1099 He liked this solution so much, he started playing Kaizo Ironmon to watch Pokemon die over 2000 times! (Only on the VOD channel for now, he can't make a video until he beats it, lol)
I'm not entirely sure it would've even worked though. I might be wrong but I think level up evolutions only trigger if you actually win a battle, so after all of the knocked out Shellos the magnemite will eventually level up but it would still just lose the battle and not evolve because the player blacked out
@Johan-ct3xg I'm pretty sure this is wrong. To my understanding, a pokemon will evolve after it has been revived if it has enough experience to evolve, but fainted in that battle, even in HG/SS. So yes, this should work. However, I could easily be wrong, as my research wasn't that deep.
@@cognisentnt8613 I do think you're right but it's not exactly what I was trying to say. From my knowledge it doesn't matter at all if a pokemon fainted in battle, as long as it hit the evolution level it will evolve even if it's still fainted, you don't even have to revive it during the battle, I'm pretty sure I've had a fainted pokemon evolve after a battle before. However you do need to actually finish the battle (aka win), because if you lose a battle you just black out and get sent back to the pokecenter without any evolutions happening. So yes it doesn't matter if the pokemon that needs to evolve faints if you still win the battle, but it does matter if all of your pokemon faint because you'll lose the battle. I've had it happen before in playthroughs of emerald, your starter evolves at level 16 there and then learns a new move at that level tol after evolving. But it's happened that i went to fight the first gym leader with my level 15 starter, it defeats her first two geodudes and levels up to level 16, and then my whole team wipes to her nosepass so i black out and my starter doesn't evolve even though it's still level 16. So then it will only evolve once it levels up again to lvl 17 but it will never get the move it would've learned because it evolved too late. (For example combusken gets double kick at lvl 16 but torchic doesnt, so because torchic only evolved into combusken at lvl 17 it just never gets double kick)
i love how "educational" this video is. i feel like it's really easy for poketubers to assume that their audience has the same amount of game knowledge as them, which can make things hard to follow for a casual fan. i really loved all the explanations thought the video!
at the same time, it can be annoying when they overexplain very simple mechanics, but it's easy to solve that by hitting the right direction key twice here. with wolfey it's more annoying because he'll take 5 mins to do this
I've seen a few people do this puzzle now, and I knew something was wrong the moment he didn't have a sign mentioning only deleting one move, but I didn't catch the fact that it was Shellos instead of Smeargle, so I wasn't sure if maybe he'd just skipped the sign. Definitely didn't expect Smant to have just sent him an old version by mistake.
I remember hearing this brought up in another video at some point, maybe from either smant or pcrow, but seeing it used for something like this is SO genius. Also, the clever use of Chuck to 1, give you a badge, and 2, use his mid-battle dialogue to tell you "you won't need Hypno after this!" is GENIUS. Doing that, plus having a hint sign before Giratina to tell you the two moves you no longer need, as well as "you'll need some luck" to confirm that yes, this will be slightly dependent oj RNG, is a great choice. Smanthony did a genuinely amazing job on this. I think I remember stopping the VoD pretty early on when that released, because I wanted to try this myself. But now I'm glad I'm seeing this instead, bc I definitely would not have solved this. I didn't know the disobedience mechanic that well to have figured out the priority trick. I'm still only at 13:47 , but this is seriously just so well designed. This follows my philosophy of puzzle design to a T. Everything here has a purpose, down to "tools" available, hints, and even the choices and placement of terrain and grass tiles! I even just now realized that the Hypno's name is displayed in Japanese, while everyone else has their name in English, and that's literally there as a hint that the Hypno is an "outsider" (Pokémon obtained via trade that will disobey if you have insufficient badges)
I love seeing how people are messing around with the pokemon format! Really makes the games so much more fun to mess around with and figure out what's possible. Though no matter how hard you try, you aren't escaping Ironmon
