3 things: 1. This should be called a Tex-mex list. 2. Even being from San Antonio, I wouldn't claim Mi Tierra (my dirt) to be the best anything food. It's cliché, tourist food at outrageous prices. 3. With the size of Texas and the popularity of Tex-Mex here, this should've been a top 10.
I've been eating at Mi Tierra often for most of my life. I think the food is good, the bakery is over the top and no, it's not too expensive. But that's my opinion.
Come on Mi Tierra is not great food. It's okay, but not better than small Tex-Mex places here. As for affordable, let's take a look at their dinner menu, besides a burger there isn't a plate less than $10. Fajitas for 2 people is $45! Lastly, Mi Tierra can be translated "literally" to my dirt, my dust, my land, my soil, my earth, it's not a one definition word.
@@dannym1459 Been eating at Mi Tierra since I was a young boy. Never had a bad meal there. Have I had better? Sure I have but there isn't anything wrong with their food.
I love Bob Phillips... I watched him as a kid in the 80s and loved the show. Helped me love food and history more... Thank you Bob for making my life more rich
I am so excited to go. We live in Japan and I have not had good Mexican food for 2 1/2 years. Bought a house in San Antonio and have not even seen it yet. Our plane lands at 11:00pm and you can bet we will be there at midnight.
Big Texan for steaks and now Mi Tierra for mexican food, I guess this is the Cliche list. All tourist attractions. Btw, L&J Cafe in El Paso is by far the best Mexican Restaurant in Texas.
What !!! No El Paso ?? Really ?? ... Hands down easily dominates the authentic Mexican food in Texas ... Everything else is Tex Mex .... Mi Tierra cafe is a beautiful scene for tourists...but the food is not on point .... Very small proportions on your plate at double the price !!! ... & so-so taste .... Obviously these reviewers never head out far west Texas .
I grew up in Fort Worth and everyone loves Joe T’s, but I thought it was overrated in my opinion. You can’t throw a rock without hitting a great Mexican Food restaurant in San Antonio.
Cancun Taqueria Airline and little York in Houston and they shut it down and they were booming like hell I have never understood that... and Mexican contestant on Crosstimbers
God-fuckin-damnit. THIS has to show up in my feed? Might as well throw in the Taco Cabana, H-E-B, and Whataburger logos to remind me of how shit Georgia is. I need to come home.
It's been at least 15 years since my 2nd and last ever visit to Joe T Garcia's and there are multiple reasons for that, the sorriest beef fajitas I've ever had along with an equally bad margarita, all served with exceptionally bad service to go with it. Ive always thought Country Reporter was pretty accurate with other restaurants I've been to, the selections if Joe T''s and Mia Tierra as the two best Texmex spots in TX seriously has me questioning how many other places I'll visit based on their "evaluations". Mia Tierra s was OK, but it's no where near the top either, it's just another tourist trap. I'm a third generation Texan, so I've been eating Texmex my entire life, I'd take Taco Bell over Joe T''s any day of the week!!!!!
Holy cow! You guys went with Joe T. Garcia's on your list....they have two entrees fajitas and sub-par enchiladas.... this list should've been dominated by all El Paso restaurants..haha we're done here.
Kinda funny, my cousins over in Mississippi , think Taco Bell is great. I've heard many years ago , never eat Mexican food North of the Red River or East of the Saline River. I believe it.
Is it still good? I remember leaving their 18 years ago and nothing compares. I think it was called a corner store. Oh my God the line out the door. Freshroll tortillas and they had the absolutely best fajita tacos.
From what I can tell these are all Tex-Mex places, not actual Mexican food. Two different cuisines the way I see it. There's a lot of good authentic Mexican food in Houston(and SA, too I'm sure) but I'm sure the RGV has the highest concentration when it comes to authentic Mexican food and not Tex-Mex. Most anglos are too scared to go anywhere south of Corpus though, lol.
1-We DONT eat burritos 2-We DONT use corn in the tacos Or the Gorditas 3-The Taco is very big! 4-Bad Beans 5-Nobody in that country knows how do aTortilla
I have to disagree with Ninfas. They might of been good back in the day. But today the food doesn't have that Tex Mex flavor. El tiempo which is next to Ninfas is a lot better and is owned by the Lorenzo family too. El Real in Montrose is also better. And guess what,it's also owned by the Lorenzo family. Honorable mention? I'd put Uncle Julio's in at least the top ten in the state, Mi Tierra wouldn't even make top twenty and Garcia's wouldn't make top 500.
Tex Mex and Mexican food are two different things. This is appears to be for the tourists. There are way too many and much better Mexican and Tex Mex restruarants than those listed here.
This list is rubbish at best. Lubbock and Midland have TexMex restaurants that, without even trying, run circles around TexMex restaurants in San Antonio. The TexMex in San Antonio isn't bad, but it certainly isn't great. In fact, my wife and I sometimes drive three hours on Saturday mornings just to eat lunch at Alejandra's in tiny little Ballinger, TX; some GREAT TexMex there.
LOL! So funny. In the old days, Dallas had class like no other- downtown Neiman's, Highland Park and SMU. My great great granddaddy who served four years with Hood's Texas Brigade, is buried in Big D, as are the rest of my family.
Nifas used too excellent when she was alive. No more the food has change too much. We used too go there once a wk but no more. The food is not the same or there service..
Anything on el paso, only because its proximity to New Mexican cuisine rubs off a little bit. Not much, but nowhere in texas is there authentic Mexican. You get that at concession stands on Friday night in new mexico.
Nope. Ninfa's is a meh. Joe T's environment is the only good thing about the place as the food is another meh. Gringo's is the best I've had so far in the south Houston /Galveston area. Raphael's in Little Elm was good as well as the Taco Bar and Tango Lounge in downtown Dallas.

please just say it is Texan food , this is not Mexican, this shit cannot be compared to Mexican food. We don't eat burritos, and the Mexicans that eat them is because they live in northern Mexico and they are already influenced by US . Just stop...
If you are talking about food from Mexico, yeah we only eat that as a specialty. We adapted and put in Texas flare with steaks and flour tortillas Etc. that's what we grew up with. I remember going to Mexico and I didn't recognize any of the food but it was pretty good. Foods are also different in every region just like they are in the u.s.

EL TAPATIO In Kingsville hands dwn my favorite place

Corpus Christi is full of nothing but taco places, I wouldn't have it any other way lol
