The owners seem so sweet and you can tell they take pride in their restaurant. Hope to visit their restaurant one day because those enchiladas look absolutely delicious!
Arnie, you are teaching this gringo how to cook Hispanic food. You are also teaching all of us about the restaurant business. If I get down in your area, I look forward to trying the you visit.
its one of the best videos you have made; the owners are enthusiastic, genuine and energetic about their business and great personalities. Their foods look delicious and obviously a great chef. Thanks and God Bless.
I grew up in the valley and there is nothing like Tex Mex food from The Rio Grande Valley. I think it's because through the years and decades recipes were passed along to family and friends and then each family made it their own. It's food with a lot of love, comfort, tradition, heart and soul.
What’s better then Anita’s food is Erica and Rob as well as their entire staff. Been a customer since day one. Beautiful people and real Valley food. Love you guys. Good job Arnie!
Arnie reminds me of my dear friend, Filiberto. Filiberto was born in Harlingen, Texas and taught me how to make Charro Beans and Chile Colorado from scratch. For some odd reason, Germans absolutely love Chicanos, Texicans, Tejanos, and Mexicans. Pretty sure the secret is in their cooking! ❤
There is a huge German influence and many German settlers in Hill Country, by Fredricksburg. I love the Hill Country so much. There is amazing schnitzel to be had there!!!!
As a home cook I always know when the plate is wiped clean , did it right it's when the family ask is there any thing left ,I know I showed my honor to feed the family it is a great feeling, tamales are 😂my Forte I always have to take a deep breath and tell them, ooook !a lways with a smile ,gimme a couple hours I will call you when they are ready to eat out of the steam pot ,it truly is a joy to see friends and family shake thier heads and smile you did it right ,keep making these super awesome videos arnie it is so good to see you enjoy life and smiles through the wonderful taste of heritage foods!
These folks are part of the backbone that makes Texas great. It's all about hospitality, quality, and price. They're definitely on my bucket list the next time I make a trip to the Valley in Mission or Raymondville, ❤❤❤😊😊😊!!!
Always wonderful to see people that take so much pride in what they do. When you do things for the right reasons in life, everything else has a way of falling in to place. I wish them nothing but success in all they do!
Great video! The food looked amazing!! What a dedicated and truly loving couple to give such heart to their restaurants, employees, and especially, to their customers.
This is definitely the best place in Edinburg to eat. I used to love Taco Ole but it's been years since they gone down hill. Breakfast at Anita's is great too.
One of my top Mexican Food Restaurants. I've never had a bad meal there. Service is always outstanding. Coffee is tops. Handmade tortillas make everything awesome. One of the best cheeseburgers I've ever had.
Oh I wish for an Anita's in Washington state near Bremmerton. We need some good South Texas comidas. 👍🏻 Thank you for sharing this video. Really great piece.
I grew up in a small city called Saginaw in Michigan. It was loaded with Chicanos from Texas! I grew up thinking all of us Mexicans ate good food....then I moved into Northwest Indiana just outside Chicago where everything was "authenticate" Mexican food....I learned real quick how lucky I was to grow up eating what I was told was Tex Mex! Chicago food is trash compared to what I grew up eating. Food covered in sauce, cheese and loaded with flavor. Can someone please introduce Chicago to salt and cominos!. Lol Now onto Anita's....wow those plates look amazing. The first and second plates were nice looking. But I'm gonna need 3 enchiladas minimum and a few flour tortillas to scoop up that carne asada. I'll use a fork when I have to, but prefer my Mexican utensil (tortillas) when eating too! Nice video Arnie! Love the Diners, driveins and dives...Chicano edition. Lol!
Being from SA and now living in WTX hearing them ask “red, green, or cheese sauce” we cannot stand!! Thank goodness the wife knows how to cook so we have South TX cooking!
The color of those enchilada plates, particularly the gravy reminds me of my favorite foods since I was a kid. Would absolutely move to another city if it was no longer available where I'm ATM. I could eat this everyday (as long as I watch my salt intake). Love your channel.
I do wish we had one of your restaurants up here in Oregon, that looks so good, may God bless you with all the success and prosperity brought your way!
Hey Arnie, watching this video has made me hungry for some Mexican food. Problem is that it’s late and everyone is closed. I hope to visit Anita’s cafe some day and wish I had you as a friend and neighbor. I love your channel, your recipes and your personality.
Man, I wish I lived close to that restaurant. Oh, and their food looks soooo delicious. When you can, go back there and make another video so that I can just watch and drool. 😂
I love my enchiladas the way Dave portnoy likes his pizza, cheese only. Simple and easy with rice and beans and covered in a light brown sauce. A couple onions and some salsa Verde is the only thing I want on my enchiladas.
Robbie is fantastic, I love is outlook and philosophy. Very respectable and seems like a cool guy. Erica is a great lady who makes and completes her man.
Oh yeah I can't wait to try Diana's plate! That was my mother's name too! I plan on heading south, to Texas, in December. I'm a lil stuck up here in Montana and having surgery in November. Can't wait to head south for my 4th winter in Texas! H.E.B. and Texas bbq / Tex Mex! Yum! God bless you Arnie! You didn't say but please tell me those beans are made with lard! Bacon grease works good too! Cheers and happy cooking everyone!
I love these recipes. Most of these dishes i have eaten but did not know how to make from scratch. Grew up on beans, fried bread and tacos, rolled and folded. Keep up the great show. I know i will be trying most of them. 😊
Gosh I wish I'd been born in Texas instead of Scotland, all of that looked amaizing, right enough my national dish is the heart, lungs and liver of a sheep boiled in it's stomach so I'm keen for a change 😀 Love your channel man, you always bring a smile to my face, take care all🙂
Having visited your fine country and eaten haggis, I can assure you that just about anything you eat in Texas is better than what Scotland can offer in the way of cuisine. The cool thing is that there's a version of Anita's Cafe in every little town in the state. Hope you can visit us someday and enjoy some of the great variety of food we're spoiled with. On the other hand, we can't match the spectacular Scottish scenery and cultural uniqueness you enjoy. I love Scotland! Cheers!
When a business has really good food and service, you will always have customers wanting to eat at your establishment. After this video, Anita's Cafe better be ready for a lot more customers. I know the next time I go to The Basilica of Our Lady Of San Juan del Valle I will be eating here at Anita's Cafe. Those enchiladas look delish. 🤤
Man I miss good food like this...the rice looks wonderful no extra stuff that some others are adding...like peas, I can't stand to see dried up peas in my rice. But dang Arnie, those enchiladas, beans, Carne Guisada....fajita, omg I would be in heaven!!! I'm stuck up here north of Austin...where they claim to have the best food...I still haven't found it!!! This Anita's looks like what I grew up eating...wonderful TexMex, that gravy...Man I gotta get down there soon...5+ hrs drive...might have to plan a Port Isabel trip!!! Thanks for sharing Anitas!!
I appreciate tex mex . But im from far west Texas next to the border. I'm use to the authentic Mexican food. When I tried Tex Mex it was so alien to me. And I learned and understood it after some time trying it.
@@cdemp4795 I've been there yeah you're right. El Paso Texas not so much Tex-Mex there we have authentic Chihuahua Style, and of course El Paso has its own style, New Mexican style which is right next door to us. But Tex-Mex was something I had to get used to and I appreciate it a whole lot now. I get it I understand its origins. And I enjoy it now
Next time I'm down in the Rio grande valley I got to swing by and try this restaurant out.. everything looks wonderful, I live in West Texas and we are very limited very few restaurants there are some good ones but very few.
The tortilla and butter snack got me curious. I sometimes have some toasted tortillas with a little tajin on em as a snack, lil butter on it too sounds heavenly haha. Love your stuff man been learning so much. Have a good one!
When I moved from Lubbock, Texas to Arizona, I discovered I did not know what Mexican food was lol texmex food and Mexican food vary quite a bit both styles very delicious
those enchiladas look really good similar to some of the best i've eaten in the valley in harlingen, texas at las vegas restaurant; sure would like to know how they make the sauce; do you have a recipe that duplicates these wonderful enchiladas?
There was this place in Pomona I grew up going to called La Cabana(name reference.) It was the 'Taco Bell' of chips and salsa Mexican food. They had a ground beef enchilada..the "movies".

Someone at Food Network give Arnie his own show Taquieras, Carnicerias and Panaderias
This IS his own show and he gets paid directly and nobody else makes money off of him like on the TV. Nothing beats being your own boss.
Unfortunately the Food Network has a direction problem where they can’t make proper decisions
They don't cook on the food network. Such a disappointing channel. all those baking championships and gameshows prove no one on there can cook.
Food Network has gone through so much change. They used to actually be a cooking show, that’s when I watched it.
We need a lot of people to email Food Network to do this.

Thank you! Those who have not really ever done it, do not understand how different the restaurant business is. You really DO have to love it.
What’s better then Anita’s food is Erica and Rob as well as their entire staff. Been a customer since day one. Beautiful people and real Valley food. Love you guys. Good job Arnie!
Arnie, you should write a cookbook of your recipes and Valley tex-mex classics! Reminds me of my childhood!
Fresh, hot tortillas with butter are the best!! 💖
Yes!
This video brightened my day. Seeing restaurant owners talk about their customers being so amazing brings joy and love. God bless y’all.

Tex Mex is English food on what planet is that Mexican food?
I grew up in in south Tejas. The home cooking is like nowhere else. One of the last places that is true Americana. Mostly untouched and genuine.
