    For years I was the same way with calling, I was always to scared or nervous to mess up. My first great success came 4 years ago, I had a doe being run by a nice 10 that I never had on camera so I gave him a few aggressive grunts to get his attention and boy did I ever. He stopped dead in his tracks and looked right to me from about 200yrds out. I gave him another long aggressive grunt then hit him with a snort wheeze. I hit that snort wheeze and you could see he was mad. Constantly licking his nose and ears pinned back, he started checking me down wind, stopped at 145yrds, gave him another aggressive grunt and snort wheeze and he took off like a rocket right straight to me. Grabbed my bow and literally had to yell at him to get him stopped for a shot, 18yrd shot with a strong quartering to me shot, I dropped the pin on his chest tight to the closest shoulder and let it fly. To this day still my biggest buck I've taken and hands down one of the most exciting hunts I've ever been on. Public ground in a place I decided to hit last minute for a evening hunt but that hunt forever changed the way I hunted and how I felt about using calls. Just don't be afraid to watch a video like this and go out to try, you don't know if you don't try. Hope ya'll have a great season, aim small miss small and may your shots be true.

      I to was afraid to scare them away so one after none I saw a doe about 200 yards out and I said let's play and I called that doe up from a valley to about 4 feet in front of me and of course I used the fawn bleat then the dominant doe bleat and it worked ha.ha ha!!!

    I'm in Michigan .I don't record my hunts.
    But . Several times over the years I've used a fawn distress call to call in a doe with a big buck behind her. In Several different circumstances this was the only way I could get the buck close enough to seal the deal..

    Watched this video for the first time yesterday. Implemented your feedback on blind calling and dropped the biggest deer I’ve shot to date 10 minutes after I finished the calling sequence with the snort wheeze!! Great content! Appreciate you!!

    Dad gave me his original True Talker today. Been practicing all day with it. Trying to get the clicking sound right. First time I'll get to hunt with a call of any kind. Never got to go hunting as a kid and so Ive spent the last two years apprenticing under my best friend. First year I didnt even hunt, I observed the entire time and then got to learn how to field dress the deer and get it ready for processing. Last year I did get to hunt but no calls or rattles, Took my first deer with a reflex shot. This year I get to manage myself with my buddy a ways away in his own stand, with my dads call that was responsible for every deer he got up until I was 7. I also fell out of the stand. Given the pattern of Like father like son events, I expect with some more practice, Ill be able yo tackle rifle season this year without breaking a sweat.....or anything else. Thank you for the education. Ill use it well

    Good content, I've also learned to never grunt with the end of the call facing directly at the deer.. deer practically smell in 3D and was taught if don't blow in there direction makes it harder for them to pinpoint your exact location.

  • @charlessoukup1111

    I've done it sparingly, so not at all any pro, simple grunts if I think of it. Called in two does cold once, calling back to me as they appeared...other time saw a single file line walking slow up a hill & away from me, one low grunt & the whole line turned around 180 degrees & walked slow right back down toward me! Shot the first one, a button, nobody moved, shot the next one, big doe, and then they scattered every direction, 2 does ran right at me, could see the hole in the one I hit which dropped soon after they got by me but I shot the other & got her too, hundred yards away. So a triple, of course you don't believe it but I was there & know it's true. Was a Thanksgiving Day, appropriately.
    Only two times a grunt call produced for me.

    Great video Jeff. First, I want to thank you for always sharing a Biblical faith based message! I always enjoy learning and hearing what you have to say. My question is, when using rattling antlers, what approximate size antlers do you think produce the best? Big 150+", smaller 100" so as not to intimidate bucks, or maybe mid size? Thanks!

For context, the area is public land but not many hunters because it is Archery only. At least I haven't seen many hunters (max 3) when I go Monday or Tuesday.

    Jeff a call I have used in North East and Canada is “ARRP” I have had a group of doe’s approach my deer stand making this call. I have used it to call in deer on multiple occasions. The woods her are thick the swamp bucks I’m hunting in Northern Maine Ontario Canada requires mostly blind calling there’s no seeing a deer over 80 yards. I find this call sound effective and another tool in the toolbox. I would enjoy talking to you about it got good things out of your video due to the only thing I can do here is blind call you were able to give me the reactions that I could be creating by blind calling you get to see your deer way before they come in

    This evening, Oct 30 near Townsend MT. My wife and I decided to go for a walk on a 300 yrd wide x 1 mile long state section in search of white tail does. Early on we spot some does at the end of the section about to cross the fence into private. By the time we got close enough to shoot, they were all across the fence. What we didn't see before was the dandy 4x5 with the group. He walked right up to the fence and looked straight at us. We if course hit the dirt and got ready to shoot. We were pinned down at about 370 yards (Which is a fairly common occurrence in Montana) for about 10 minutes but could not shoot because he would not cross the fence, and why would he? His does are behind him safe and sound.
    If I would have had some basic calls and a basic knowledge of how to use them, I may have been able to coax this buck into jumping the fence and closing a little distance.
    That's why I'm watching this video tonight. I won't be going back out without some calls.
    Question: How do mule deer respond to calls? Thanks!

    • @_BuckVenturesOutdoors_
      @_BuckVenturesOutdoors_  Рік тому

      Hey Dustin, we're so happy to hear that you are getting into hunting! If you are hunting deer, elk, or any other big game animal, you want the wind to be blowing at you in your face or in the direction that you think the animal will NOT come from. If the wind is blowing at your back, 99.9% of the time, the animal will smell you (maybe even from several hundred yards) & not come into shooting range. Every stand we hunt, the wind is almost always blowing straight at us in our face or could sometimes be a crosswind blowing in a direction the animals should not come from
