This video is all about deer calling tips to success! I go over primos deer calls including the original can that they make and the hardwood grunter. These tips can help you call bucks into bow range. How to call deer can really effect how your hunt goes. Remember that blind calling will greatly increase your chances of seeing deer. Early season deer calling can also prove to have a lot of success. Grunt calls can be especially good for this. Once the rut kicks in you might think about using the Primos Can doe estrus bleat call.

Let me know if you guys use the can when you hunt. Support the channel and Subscribe and like the video.
Ive been using the can for 15yrs. Its great in the rut! Not at all times..but when you hit the rut ! its awesome
I use a bleat can. Only during chase phase. Very early rut. Only from the ground.
Walking on the ground using the wind. Every 200 yards or so dumping a bleat can twice about 15 seconds apart, another sequence 5 minutes later.
If does are being chased by bucks and are in ear shot of the sound of the bleat, the does will run right to you almost on top of you bringing the bucks in tow.
The doe want to unload the bucks onto you thinking you are a doe in stress of estrous. They are frustrated being chased by these bucks. It works! Countless times I have experienced the same results with this technique. Always a doe being chased by numerous bucks and she comes in right on top of you. Numerous bucks in tow and almost just as close.
My daughter and I call it a walk about because we move and set up about every 200 yards. Extremely effective in mid October to the end of October in New York state, southern tier. That is the long bleat.
I’ve used the can for coyote hunting, I’ve had some luck doing it to get some come in
@@DerekUtleyAFSecForces I never thought of using it for coyotes. That’s a great idea
I make the short bleats by blowing in the hole in the bottom, instead of flipping it over. And I have called in yotes by doing the same thing just blow in the can a little harder to mimic a rabbit or pup lol.
Thanks. 52 years old and have not deer hunted since I was 15 with my dad. Need to relearn everything. Thanks for the tips.
I’m in the same boat! Just a little younger!
Neither of you are gonna change your depends to go out in the woods give up the dreams ole boys
Go get em guys I just started 4 years ago knocked two bucks. One with the bow and another with the grandpa plus gun. I’d have I a down. Now if my health wasn’t up and down
7:55 for the can...
Just a tip, I accidentally figured out that you can lightly blow into the hole in the bottom and get the same sound as you would flipping it over. This makes it much easier to control the length of your call when using the can and sounds more realistic than trying to flip it for short bursts.
I just tried it!!! You aint lying! Thanks for the tip!
It’s supposed to be like that bud…
I've been doing the same thing for years plow in the bottom hole you can do long or shot calls.doing that I have called in big bucks ever year since.
Man that works SO good. Thanks for that PRO tip!
I discovered this on accident a couple years ago. The can seemed stuck so I blew into the hole.
This makes complete sense! A few years ago I was up in a tree stand that I never see deer in so I wasn’t too excited about sitting up there all day! I was about to get down and I decided to use my Call Can in a short bleat like crazy just to scare any deer that may be near so I don’t give away my stand position. And literally a minute later a beautiful buck came crashing through! Got em! I actually forgot about that and still have been using the can wrong! Thanks for the video!
Wow that’s quite a story! That’s awesome! Congrats!
try a light shake . Make the can make a YA YA YA YA sound . It will change your life.
I would’ve bet a million dollars that the great tip that I’m about to share with you on the can call was what you were going to mention in your video. As you were demonstrating the can call it sounded like crap because it’s so inconsistent flipping it like that (not your fault).
The best way hands down to use a can is to blow into the can through the hole you put your finger over. You can do it as loud or quiet as you want and as long or short as you want. It is 100% consistent doing it this way. When you try flipping it sometimes if it’s real cold it slips down fast and doesn’t do anything. The big thing is that it starts to make noise then stops then starts and sounds terrible. Once you and anyone else tries this then never flip it again.
Happy hunting and good luck....great video
This is the way I’ve been using it for about 5-7 years and my success has increased greatly.
Interesting tip..thanks for sharing. Quick question. So when you blow into the hole how are you holding the can? Sideways... so your holding it horizontally as you blow in the hole? Straight up and you blow in the bottom? I just want to make sure I am doing it right.
@@jcc713 Sideways. So the hole is facing you that you blow into
@Daniel Nelson good luck. My friend just shot a nice 9 pointer yesterday using the can
So it’s that time
I have done that too
Thank you so much for enlightening me on The Can bleat call. Have had one of these for years and it's never worked. Had a chance to use this just two days after watching this video. The short bleats brought in an 8 pointer that I spotted moving through from roughly 100yds away. He came directly to me like being pulled on a string. Came in grunting and gave me a 12yd broadside. Got my buck just like that. Could not believe it. Thanks so much!
That’s awesome! Thanks for sharing your personal story. Really glad that the tips were able to help you out. Congrats on the buck!
I used the Primos can 2 weeks ago. It 100 % worked! Not only did the bucks that we saw came in, but buck we didn't even see came in. Had about 8 bucks total come in to about 75 yards. Several began fighting and pushing each other around, while the smaller ones came to the feeder while the others were out putting on a show. There were a mix of 10 pointers, 8 pointers, 6 pointers and some spikes. I hunt the piney woods of East Texas and to my surprise the Primos deer call actually worked. I used the short bleat pattern. I did 3 small bleats and that was all it took. A coworker of mine told me to try it and I would see for myself. It absolutely made a believer of me.
@@markanthony1699 wow it sounds like it worked really well for you!
I use the extinguisher, and it has Made a 100 percent increase in seeing deer come to my call. I have letery saw them walk 200 yard straight to my call across open pastures to it. The reasons is this is the most natural sounding call I've ever used and I've been for 40 years
That's the best call
Best call
Call sounds good enough, but broke after one season. Quaker Boy brawler hands down best call ever.
I've been grunting and using The Can more years than I can count. I've called in so many bucks, I quit counting at 94. That was in 2014. There is a sequence I use with both calls, but rarely just one or the other. My .02
What sequence do you use that you've found effective?
A couple of soft bleats over about 2 min. A few soft grunts. Start drawing your can call out by tilting it slower. Then I hog grunt like I'm chasing and then shut up for 10-20 min. Then I get aggressive with my grunting again, followed by some bleats here and there. The biggest thing is to call with the right wind into a deer populated deer area, especially with good buck sign. I have called them from a bad wind, but you better be prepared to judge them fast.
Luckily I saw this video the night before opening day. We were cold and about to pack it up for the day. So as a last resort I used the Primos Can exactly the way you said to. 5 minutes later my 12yo son shot his first deer. It made a straight line through thick brush to within 7 yards of where the call was made from. In the past I’ve always used the long bleat and it’s never worked. I credit that deer to this video! And it was the big one! Not just my boys first deer but also a big buck. I’ve spent years trying to make this happen but the can used the way you explained did it!
That’s so awesome!!
Your tip on the can is priceless! I never realized that I was using it incorrectly. Knowledge is everything, thank you for putting in the work for us😊
@matthewf532 glad it helped!
That is correct, about the bleat can. I blow into the bottom of the can in short bursts. I've been in the center of more than 20 deer in a heard up a tree. Those groups of whitetails are Very vocal when moving on there own. When being pushed, they go silent unless the Very young fawn gets separated from its mother. 43 year's of hunting puplic Land has been good to me.
Just last Saturday I used a primos doe bleat call and had a curious buck come to investigate which was a fatal mistake. Thank you Jesus
Amen !
I was watching across my back field one day and had a huge doe stand up just inside the hedges. She gave a long bleat like you said and ran.
Sounds like good advice, thanks 👍🏼
Dan S glad it helped you out! That’s cool you were able to see it in live in action!
I was bowhunting a friends farm about 15 years ago and just got the can.. I hunted most of morn and was walking back to clubhouse. I couldn't hold it any more and HAD to go number 2.. I did the deed and got all dressed back up and the can fell out of my pocket when I was getting my bibs zipped up. I grabbed the can off the ground and started walking rest of way back to cluhouse.. I started doing the beats in short bursts while walking I must have done 10 to 12 calls in a row pretty fast when a mature buck came running down the ridge from about 200 yrds away.. he made it to within 40 or 50 yards b4 he realized what I was... it was such a cool experience.. did not get a shot off.. it happened so fast .. by the time I got the arrow knocked all I saw was whitetIail..
I've been calling deer for about 30 years. Even back when rattling "only works in texas", I would call n rattle. I've called many bucks in, some have become dinner, some laughed at me while running away. I hunt in Pennsylvania and can say that, without a doubt in my mind, rattling and calling has worked well for me. I also like primos calls along with mad calls. These have been what I've had the most success with.
The short bleets that u talked about is something new 2 me and I will try that this season. Also, I had a doe come in 2 the can once and as she approached, I thought it was another hunter cause she didn't stop bleeting. One after another after another after another, and so on. She didn't stop in my view and I watched her for about 75 yards. It was a shock 2 me. After that, I tried it a few times while blind calling and it definitely works. Try it out. I know it seems like ur "calling 2 much", but I've seen it in the wild so I know it's not crazy.
Good video and good luck in the field.
I appreciate the comment. You said a lot of great information. Do you think calling works year round or only in some phase of the rut?
@@Markofalltrades well I think deer communicate all year round, so maybe. I guess I never really tried calling deer during spring gobbler but maybe I'll give it a try next spring. Ha. Good luck in the field
Owe I can tell you this..I live in eastern north Carolina..I have used both the short and long primos can..they are a great success..I have killed big bucks using the short primos can..2015 I killed 3 bucks in a 8 hour span, one day..first buck was 7:30am 12 point buck..10:30am was a 6 point buck..later on in the afternoon at 4:15pm I killed a four point buck..not all at the same area, but the same game lands all in 1 day using the short primos can..I love using the short can what a great call..I would not change to any other call..trust me it works..i would do 3 short bursts then repeat every 25 minutes..great success..deer came right to me within 25 yards..it works people..I'm still using the primos can till this day..still great success..what a great device..keep up the great work..
That’s awesome that the long and short can worked for you. Sounds like you’ve mastered it!
I thought North Carolina's limit on bucks was 2? 🤔
Two years ago I had a group of 4 doe about 50 yards away walking away at an angle, I used the can and long slow quiet bleats and the basically started walking up to me, shot a big doe. I hadn’t heard about the long bleat so I will try the short this year, nice video
Would love to tell my story- Used a Flextone buck grunt on a 10 degree morning in northeast upstate NY where the snow was dropping super slow on first week of November 2020. I went to a blind in between two fields at 5 am (where I saw an 8 pointer exit this corner the day before at 7am diagonaling across open field 70 yards away from my tree stand). It was quiet with no wind and no action in the rut. So at 8:30 am I started a line of buck grunts 3 in a row moving from left shoulder to right shoulder (as if buck was following a hot doe) where I finished a forth grunt that blatted out a few seconds longer. ( I did this out front the blind holes - not from within it).......15 minutes later an 8 pter walked right down in front of me from my right between the two fields. He froze when he saw the fresh blind and started to lean away to run when I nailed the shot. He only made it 30 yards. Game over. I walked his path back in snow up to a hilltop overlooking the 4 separate fields. He was sitting up there with wind in his face and assumes he comes down only when does go into heat as scent blew right in his face.
Thats an awesome story, thank you for sharing. Sounds like the can was definitely working for you that day!
I've used the can ever since it came out several years ago. Called in 3 of the 5 deer I have on my wall with it. Never knew the tip about the long bleat vs. the short one but it makes sense.
Used the long bleat and literally watched two bucks walk out of sight I'll try the short bleats in the morning
I had great success with the "green can" last week. Gave 2 long bleats. Barely had time to put it down before a big old buck came charging up the ravine towards my stand. Needless to say he met his maker. lol...
Man I had no clue but it makes since thanks for posting this I’ll try it this evening
Thanks for the comment, let me know if it works out for you. Good luck out there!
I have the exact same primos can call and I used it in just one motion, letting it do the full doe bleat and I had 3 different bucks come walking in looking for that doe. None of them seemed spooked. I hunt in Missouri during rifle season which is about mid November. Thanks for your tips, I will definitely remember to use them this season.
I have used this call more than anyone i have ever known . i have had deer come into the can with any noise you can make it make. The long bleat however i seem to have many more Does come in and when they do they look as if they are looking for other deer in distress. This simple call is one of the best calls ever invented and I think it gets treated like a joke most of the time and it is a true secret weapon in a sea of grunt calls.
Use to use the buck roar from primos but now I use the extinguisher, all your deer sounds are better and by just sliding the slide you can unfreeze the reed on those really cold days
Spot on with "the can." I've experimented with it and found much more success with the short bursts. I've brought in curious does and had bucks come cruising into the area as well.
I watched your video and for the last 10 years I have tried to explain to my buddies, who look at me like I'm crazy, to quit rolling the can and letting it go all the way through. To use the can like a grunt call by by cupping it with your hand and gently blowing air in short bursts. You have more control and less movement in the stand. I'd like for you to try this. You can get different tones by holding the can up and blowing in it you get more of an adult doe sound, and if you flip it down and let the it fall to the front of the call it sounds more like a young deer. I have had a lot of success doing this, and a few of my buddies that told me they hated the can tried it this way and had success and are all about it now. Please try it and let me know if it works for you.
Thanks for the tip! I’ll have to try that! I’ll be sure to let you know how it works out for me. Thanks for the insight.
WOW!!! NOBODY HAS SHOWN ME THE REVERSE CALL TECHNIQUE! THANK YOU!!! AND YES!!! I WAS USING THE BLEAT CAN ALL WRONG, WHICH EXPLAINS MY LAKE OF RESPONSE! AGAIN THANK YOU!!! NEW SUB. FROM THE 641...
3 years ago I got my best buck with the long bow by doing the full bleat. I didn't think I had a chance and started filming him. Tried a few bleats and he did a big loop and came by at 8 yds.
I’ve always used the long bleat and have never called in a deer. I’ll have to try the short bleats. Thanks for the info.
Me too
Well my biggest buck I have ever taking game to the bleat long can. He scored 147 3/8. It was 10:15 in the morning he had bedded down a Lillie over 100 yards from my blind. Me and dad was about to call it and I decided to hit the long van one last time and on the fourth bleat, I saw him get out of the fence row and come straight down the middle of the field and I made a perfect shot. So I can say my experience that the long bleat does not spoke the deer. I have killed four bucks by using this can.
I started doing the short bleats. I do 3 short bleats , then follow up with a few grunts. I do this every 30 minutes to a hour. Very good luck doing it this way. In central Arkansas we hunt in a lot of brush and thickets, so only problem I’ve had is when you call, and the timing is right, you usually see them at 50 yards out of nowhere. So you have to be very alert or you will miss them.
Sounds like you found a great technique! It’s always a rush when they sneak up on you out of nowhere! Thanks for the input!
I bought the can last Thursday and used it this weekend. I should have watched this video first. Great tips!
I was doing the whole bleat. It attracted 4 does with their fawns. They all looked weary, like if they were afraid. Maybe because the way I was doing it was a warning call...🤔
I was using the long bleat today and I had a 8 pointer come running in right behind me 🤟🏼🤟🏼
Nice! Sounds like you’ve got it working for you!
I like the primos rattling backs its mesh and not that rubber slotted bags
Smart points about calling -- well done. I've had success with a Foxpro electronic caller that I strap to a tree 25-35 yards from my stand. It calls in deer and most importantly, gets the sound away from me. The deer hear the sound and look in that direction. If it's coming from me with a grunt tube, they see me and get spooked (which is what happened with a beautiful buck - and made me buy the Foxpro).
That’s awesome you have the electric caller. I haven’t heard any testimonials on it, glad to hear it’s working out for you!
I've never had luck calling using the can, but now I know why. Good thing about rattling, you get to move and warm up. Great video
Much appreciated thank you, might be worth it to try the short bleats, never know.
A lot of excellent information here. I have used breathing in the can before. I love grunting in bucks also. Just the other day I grunting in a nice tall spike but let it go. I have grunted in a few 6 and 8 pointers before. I like Knight and Hale calls. Been using their stuff since the 70's. Thanks again for the useful information.
Thanks for sharing the stuff that works for you. I haven't seen the knight and hale stuff. I'll have to check them out!
I have been using the long call this whole season so far. Thought I was just getting unlucky. I haven't seen any deer. I'm gonna try the short call here this weekend and hopefully snag me a deer. I'll will come back and let ya know.
How did it go?
@@drizztdourden2571 yeah any better reaction?
The first time I used a grunt call I didn’t expect anything. I had just trekked through some thick swamp on the Wabash and stopped to take a cigarette break. I sat my bow down against a tree, gave the call one little grunt, lit my cigarette and when I looked up there was a nice 10 pointer coming out of the swamp at ten yards. I never call without being ready since.
Oh wow! Thats a good reminder to always be prepared. Sounds like the grunt calls are working for you
I used a can last year and a doe and fawn walked from behind my stand and walked about 45 yards in front of the stand, about two minutes later a nice buck appeared. I have seen deer look from across the field when using a long bleat call. These calls are hit or miss like using deer scent. Sometimes they work.
The best chance of seeing deer is scouting and setting up a stand. Always prepare, see trails. Pre- season is the time to clean up around the area you hunt. I always had success clearing trails. Deer like taking an easy path.
Oh man I’ve been using the can all wrong! Thanks for this!
I’ve used the Primos doe bleat for many years, during the rut in SW Georgia. And it’s called in bucks better than any other call. I have used the longer style of calling. Will try the short style this deer season and see if makes a difference.
What did you find out?
Same with me it hasn’t always worked and maybe now I know how to better use it, it may work better! But my biggest buck though has been because of the primos original.
Saw your video before last years hunt 2023 and was able to bring in a nice 9 point buck! Using the bleep call at separate sequence rather then long bleep is best. Thanks for sharing.
@@fatalxiong5320 thanks for your comment. I'm glad it worked out well!!
i like the part of the call that ask you, you want a trophy buck? why yes i do... lol
I love the primos can. My two best bucks both came at a full run from several hundred yards away and didn’t stop until within 50 yards of me. They definitely work .
i been hunting for alot of years and i use the primos can and hardwood grunter along with michael wadel 's snort wheeze caller,i use the hole on bottom of the can as well as turning it over and back up but first i like to grunt a few times then use the can to me it makes the deer know especially a buck whos looking for a doe in heat that another buck has stollen his doe or moved in his area to steal his does ,,i also do the buck roar on the snort wheeze caller i harvest a 8pointer that i have mounted on the wall ,by doing the roar one thing also that works for me is having a buck decoy out when im hunting god bless good luck to all the hunters
I’ve used the primos can for years and yes short bleats work for me.I’m in southwest Va and I wouldn’t go in the woods without my can!
Primos calls are all I have ever used. Good old Wal-Mart specials!
Primos makes a Long can that is specifically for imitating a doe in estrus. Works beautifully for me here in Ky. I have never seen a deer run from a bleat, but YMMV
do you hunt private or public? I am in Richmond. I am very new to the hunting world and would appreciate the insight.
I actually stopped using the can because it scared more deer than it brought in..Now I know why..Thank You..
Might be Worth a shot to try the short bleats
The long bleat will still bring in deer. I have seen does come running to it. I was told it sounds like a fawn in trouble. Dont know myself but having options to put meat in the freezer is always a plus. Thanks for a solid video brother, and thanks for serving.
Glad to know you've seen the long bleat work well! I appreciate the comment!
@@Markofalltrades only does though. Im heading out today and im going to try your way. Always open to new tactics.
Using the Can..yes Short Bleats...Ive had this can for 4 years..yes it has worked...but not always..
Yes I'm in Michigan Also..😁😉
Sometimes it’s hit or miss... nice to hear from another Michigander!
I use Primos can call for years the way it was designed and I've never had any problems calling in deer. Some hunts I call with it once and the buck comes running others may take a few hours of a call every few minutes but it gets them to my stand. I never go hunting without it!
Great video! After experiencing the bleating and deer vocalizing up close and personal. I agree with the short bleating for the majority of time . I have experienced a long bleat approximately 10% of the time from the younger dear only and the volume is on the lower end keep it muffled a little.
Great comment. I heard the long bleat three times while walking on Sat. Alarm bleat. You bet, he or she saw me first.
Appreciate the comment and sharing your experiences! Hopefully the next hunt goes your way!
@@Markofalltrades Got a good snow last night. Hopefully get on some tracks and spot them first this afternoon. Going to try some quiet bleats and grunts too.
👍 have used the can call by primos for years as well as a grunt call I've had great success with both , better results around rut and late season but definitely like them and I use them in my arsenal
I use the primos can, one full "bleat" broken into 3. 2 short and then what's left. The first time I ever used it, I immediately pulled in a 10 point. I know 100% he was responding to the call because he hurried in, stood 10 feet to the right back corner of my stand and stared out into the food plot. Unfortunately, I never got a shot on him and I didn't get him. Since then.... cricketes. So my honest opinion, if you do it right, and there is a rutting buck near, and you're quiet, he doesn't see or smell you... you're golden. Just another tool in the toolbox. However, I can for absolutely sure say that IF, the conditions are right, it will absolutely draw a curious, rutting, buck!
I agree with you. This is another tool in the tool box. It seems like you know the deer in your area and how they respond. Conditions do have to be right, thanks for the comment.
First time I used the can call,I had deer in site about 75 yards away, used the long bleet, the buck came to me and I was successful
I like starting with the flexible tube compressed. Making a slightly longer duration call, and extend the tube slowly while blowing through the call. I also take a small stick, and with the tube extended. I blow through the call and slowly rub the stick down the ribs of the tube. It makes that low guttural sound. The exact sound you hear when a buck grunts. Give it a try I think you will like it.
I've blown in the doe can and a buck came right at me! I was also walking . It worked once. Gonna try it again this year
woah the inhale tip was so sick!! :O mind blown!
Thank you for all the information. This year I'm buying more calls. In all previous years, I'm either silent or used the can calls. And I've always used the long bleats. I have never called in a deer with the can calls.
I’ve taken a couple of good deer in SW Kansas and Oklahoma.
Only one was called in with a grunt of any fashion.
I have come to love the Can and that started with the original Can.
Both states, I’ve called in old bucks in November from 200 yards.
My experience.
I know of plenty of personal friends that swear by the grunt tube.
Using the Can, if it didn’t carry out the long call, it spooked deer.
Tried a short or. choppy call and never got a decent look.
I’ve taken my share of deer, 5p/y and a booner with a bow. Spent 35 years learning and teaching others.
But that’s me.
The bleat can has been hit and miss for me in the past. My cousin hunts 4 miles from me and killed a big 11pt the other day using the cam. He said he flipped the can and less than 5 minutes the buck was making a B-Line for him. I’ve only had small bucks come to check it out myself. Thanks for the info and Happy Hunting!
Always have had success with the can it s amazing to witness it work just do it a little bit and be quiet for few minutes and listen to the woods before doing it again it's especially important to have this tool in November for the Rut .
@LeonCalhoun-d9b I would have to agree! Come November the can is with me for every hunt
The Lil can worked for me twice.
The first time, I was hunting in flooded timber and during the rut.
I heard a deer running through the water and hit the can. It worked.
Second time I brought in a buck I saw browsing, headed in a different direction.
I've also spooked deer with it.
I called my first deer in using a Primos "the can" she came in real fired up, staring and blowing at the treeline I was hiding in. It didn't make sense until I saw another video that made the same claim. I now use it to target mature does, I think it works similar to a fawn in distress and especially is good on mulies.
That's awesome you're using it to your advantage now! I've never had the opportunity to see how it does on mulies, very cool
Excellent information on the can call. I typically don't roll it over, I. blow in the single hole on the bottom. That way I can control the length of the bleat.
Thank you, I’ve never tried it that way. I’ll have to give it a shot
Here in NY the bleet can has worked greatly. Especially in rut.
Awesome to hear it works out there!
A guy I work with loves the can for the first week to 10 days in November. I took the can out because of him. Nov 9 really cold day, seen a small buck going by, can called, nothing. Little buck kept going. To my left a nice 8 point comes plowing threw the brush looking for that doe!!! Walked past at 14 yds. Put an arrow right threw both lungs. Always have the can with
Buck roar is Definitely an essential tool I keep on me during the rut.
Thats always a good one too.
Thanks for the video and comments from others. First time hunting this season and just got the Can yesterday. Glad I didn't go out there acting a fool! Short bleats and using the hole in the bottom is what I'll try. Muzzleloader season has arrived.
Good luck out there! Hopefully these techniques can work out for you!
I've tried the Primos Fawn Bleat can. That one worked with the long bleat. Brought in bucks and does alike. The long doe bleat definitely made the deer run off pretty quickly. Long story short, use the short bleat if you are using the old style doe bleat can.
I've used a can and grunt combination for over 15 years. Killed many bucks with the combination. I always use the can to make 3 long calls followed by 3-5 grunts. I'll try the short calls this season and see if I can see a difference. I live in south GA and have already killed a good buck with the first calling sequence.
Thats awesome you've seen so much success with it. How often are you calling per hunt?
Hope to hear how the short calls work for you this season.
I shot my first archery buck this year with an estrus bleat can
The first time I used the can 10 years ago I brought a monster 9 point in on a string. But I only used a few short bleets. I continue to use short bleets with decent results. I have grunted in a few bucks with the tube. When I am on the ground I take the antlers and hit them into the ground and stir up the leaves a little. Just like when they really fight. I have gotten a lot of attention doing that.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I’m sure using antlers on the ground produced a lot of results with the realism you can add moving bushes around.
Nice video good information and like the way you present it!
Much appreciated, Glad you liked it!
I did both n a big 8 pt came to me at 35 yards biggest buck ever in my life
Good information on the short call I live in West Virginia and we have a lot of thermal wind it literally swirls all over the place. But sometimes you get lucky anyway. 💥🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌
Gonna try the short bleat.....
Been using the Primo's long bleat and observing the deers reaction...it always seemed to spook themnot attract them at all!
Makes sense to me what you said about it being an alarm call! LOL
Next time I'm gonna try short bleats and guage their reaction.
Thanks for the information.
Appreciated!
I had a friend who was a park ranger. One season he said everytime he used a fawn bleat can from his treestand a coyote would show up! 😁
I was a Primos prostaffer for 17 yrs and used the can a lot. It worked well short or long bleating. However, being totally honest I always preferred the Primos Power Buck and Doe, which is a combo inhale/exhale which I would set to a buck on one side and a doe on the other. You can inhale from both ends as you demonstrated. Check it out, you’ll love it.
Very informative video! I have had a lot of success with knight & hale grunt calls, I have also called in some good bucks with the bleat call using the long bleat. I will give the short bleats a try and see if it makes a difference. Thanks
I'll have to check out the knight and hale calls. The short bleats might be worth a try!
I've never had a deer come in to the bleat can. I've only had deer come in to grunt calls and the vast majority have been 1.5 year old bucks. The only buck I've grunted in that was decent was a 3.5 year old for a friend. I have scared unknown deer with the can from brush around me but that's because I've only ever used the longer bleats. Thanks for the tip. If I can find my can I'll try it again.
Hopefully the shorter bleats will work better for you! Good luck!
@@Markofalltrades I tried the short intermittent calls with the can on my last hunt. I heard a buck chasing a doe for a while in the thick laurel behind me and the noise had stopped for a little bit. I decided to use the can just how you said. Apparently, the doe was bedded within about 50yds of my stand, it was very thick, and the buck was farther into the thick stuff. I gave a couple quick short beats and a quick grunt and I could hear him running towards me.
He was actually headed towards that doe in a hurry, in my opinion, thinking another buck had moved in and was attempting to breed her. She eventually lead him around about 100 yds out and then back to within 30 yards about 20 minutes later where I was able to kill him. A decent 8 point mountain buck a little over 100". I'm convinced that quick calling sequence didn't call him to me but it got him up and chasimg that doe again mid day which lead to me taking him. I'll definitely be using the can again for sure. Thanks for the video, it helped me for sure!
I never knew that and when I remembered when I did do the long bleet I’ve seen deer move towards the opposite direction. I always thought it was defective.
Might be worth a shot trying the short bleats, hopefully that changes your luck.
You never said how effective your long bleat can worked for you before and how your new short can success has been, 👍
I appreciate you keeping me honest! After posting this video I have had more success with the short bleat. It wouldn't have them coming in on a bee line but it did bring them closer towards my location.
I have used the Can before, but no real luck. I have been trying bleets for years with my voice. A few weeks ago, it was the "right time". I called and doe came in behind/down wind of me at 30 yards, an early season gift! With one in the freezer it allow's me choice's for the rest of the season.
I used the can for my beginning hunting, then I moved to a manual reed call like the one here. I currently use the Extinguisher by far the most versatile call you can get with no reed sticks. I am from Northern Michigan also.
I've heard good things about the extinguisher. How do you like it?
I agree. I switched to an extinguisher this year and called three different bucks to me this season. I’m in far northern Maine where deer densities are very low so I was super impressed with it.
I use both the short and long can, if you experiment with the herd that you're hunting, you'll find what works, but I've always had good luck using them both, one short call, and with the longer can, a little bit longer call right afterwards, does will come in fairly quickly if they're in the area, if that happens stop calling, it'll alert them. Bucks later in the season will come investigate it and if you figure out how to project the call with cupping the hands and in the opposite end of it, closing your hand, it'll sound like they're on the move and bucks will trail them right passed you, especially if you back it up with doe estrous on your way in, preferably behind/ downwind of your actual location, that way they walk right past you and they'll be focused on the sound and smell, and you could be standing there in a clown suit and they won't even see you. Almost as bad as a teenager on a cellphone walking down a busy street.
I like yr techq. That bleep call U R on the money Short bleep. Thanks for the infro. Good luck on the hunt.
I discovered the alarm bleat using the can the first year they came out, had a really nice buck passing about 400 yards off between beds during the peak of the rut out of range of my 30-30. Did the nice long bleat and instead of turning my way like I wanted, he hit the afterburners after glancing back directly at me and I heard my brother nail him on the other side of the property. That buck ran directly towards him and slowed down for a second when he did a short bleat on a reed call and that's all she wrote.
Wow that’s a heck of a story! It’s cool that it worked out in the end with your brother getting him. Have you used the short bleats since?
@@Markofalltrades I tried a few times but it seems the squirels in my area really didn't like it so I quit using it. Being about the peak of the rut now, I am going to look for my old one and try it out again.
TY4tip!! Gonna try short this year BECAUSE 2yr ago, as I was removing (same) call from back-pack, a hot 6ptnr came rushing in when I bumped 2 short bleats. I ( passed him) thought he was just over-anxious. I had used the call for 20 yrs with varying success, but often noting consistent reaction, yet no over-whelming attraction. Maybe ya "tagged" onto something! LOL!!
Great video man very helpful
Ive got 5 bucks rattling and 5 bucks grunting and 3 using the can grunting combo but I've got countless deer not using anything but scents I only grunt now when the buck is walking away from me I just gave up making noise in the woods it was fun when I was younger to do though but now stealth works the best for me and stand placement have fun out there guys
Called in a buck from 100 yards using the LONG bleep. He came in on a run!!!
I'm in central Arkansas and bought "the can " a couple months its the long bleat . I have a security set up in my backyard I have deer mostly doe's come out every night. My security camera has a speaker and I used it thru the speaker with 3-4 Doe's within 6-8 ft of the camera at least one ran the others paid very little attention but 1 moved closer looking for what was making that noise. Having the security camera set up and watching videos of the deer has been really fun they have licked the camera and 1 big 8 point licked it and kept hitting it with his horns and looked straight into it .I have it sitting on a home made wire trap about 2-3 ft off the ground
What I learned this year is it’s best to be quiet while hunting a rack buck, when you call you just gave up your location, I have bleated , rattled, grunted bucks in but never a big mature buck.
Thanks for the video. It's my first year out and I ended up i had bought both the long can and the short can. I wasn't really sure which one to use. Judging by the comments, it seem to be a mix.
Thanks for the comment! It does seem to be a good mix. I think the best way to find out is to try it out and see what works best for you in your area.
