Heard this track on ABC radio the other day. Man, it took me back . The Sports, another great Aussie band that should’ve got more air play than they did.
Awesome band, enjoyed the reunion show at Memo…. Saw Stephen plenty of times, just him and an acoustic guitar playing so many Sports and solo songs, simply wonderfully eclectic
I still have them on vinyl and it's one of my most treasured records. Saw them at Coolangatta a few times - I can almost remember the sets they played even though that was around 40 years ago.
Check out the Drumming on this Australian Rock Classic. This is the type of Band that should get played 1,000 times a day on Aussie radio!!!!!!!!!! Go and get there ALLSPORTS best of album to hear why they are an Australian Treasure. INXS are cool, though THE SPORTS were and are awesome.
That year....Mondo Rock, MiSex, Aussie Crawl. Cold Chisel, Matt Finish, Split Enz, The Angels, Dragon, JoJo Zep, the list of local bands was endless. I suppose it was towards the end of the time when it was ‘general guitar pop soup for everyone’ Pretty soon, more ‘trendy’ pointed styles and sophisticated sounds , The Church, Psuedo Echo, The Models, Midnight Oil, Birthday Party and all the lush gothic stuff from England Psychedelic Furs, Echo and the Bunnymen, The Cure would come along. I mean The Smiths ain’t like this.
Ok, we did like the New Wave stuff coming out of the UK, but with the Aussie and NZ pub bands, those aussie rock standards were the staple for a long, long time.
@@nyosito I have all the Rippers, Scorcher, Hit Wave, Choc-o-block, Ripsnorter [different pig on the cover] and several other compilations from the era. Full Boar is my fave as it has the best tracks - and they are all mixed into each other. It is not always seamless but it is pretty cool anyway.
Our treasured favourite bands are the Most under rated Aussie bands. Thanks to Molly Meldrum who ruined the Australian music industry. Molly treated James Freud like shit.
Steven Guegens Funny, I thought the same thing! Also their singing style and sound is so similar if they sang each other’s songs it would be hard to tell them apart!
Day 7062. 2 x 3 x 11 x 107. Raw honey and all of my urine til 3.15pm then dried figs and baby spinach leaves and mandarins then more urine then fresh fruit and vegetables and other foods at 10.15pm. No change.
One the most perfect pop songs ever composed and recorded.
@Kwanglebeh 👍👍
The Sports bring back great 1980s memories. Definitely the most underrated Australian band.
One of my favourite Sports songs!
this song should be played in every train station in the world!!!!
A two and half minute hit of pop perfection
Heard this track on ABC radio the other day. Man, it took me back . The Sports, another great Aussie band that should’ve got more air play than they did.
Stick Ya Bryan ferry _ Stephen Cummings was Mr Cool !!
Who listens to the radio?
@@robertmilo5203Me apparently! Love the come back. Another great Sports track. Guess I won’t hear it on MMM, lol.
Awesome band, enjoyed the reunion show at Memo…. Saw Stephen plenty of times, just him and an acoustic guitar playing so many Sports and solo songs, simply wonderfully eclectic
FFS! Can't believe this song's nearly 40 years old...talk about timeless!!!
Most under rated Aussie band ever. Pity the world didn't accept them like INXS
Chris Laurie Indeed! If my cousins in Perth hadn't included this on a mix tape they sent I'd have never heard this in Canada.
Great comment. Probably my favorite Australian band.
Have to agree with Joseph. A great underrated Australian band.
Chris Laurie Agreed. This song was only a minor hit but is as good anything any Australian band was releasing at the same time
@@andrewunjo158 Canadian guy here too. This is awesome, eh?
GREAT sounds of the 70's/80's....
Music will NEVER be the same as this again!
Cracking tune still hits the eardrums in a good way. They weren't trying to be Sex Pistols or Joy Division or bands like that.
Sensational band. Underscored.
I still listen to and love this gem decades later ….great clip too.
One of those bands that were too good in so many ways. No place in the industry in some kind of way. Memories.
2019 AND STILL STANDS UP AMAZING SONG AMAZING GROUP
MISS THOSE YEARS
As featuring Sally Freud (Clifton at the time) wife of the late great James.
And sister of Jane Clifton, AKA Margot Gaffney in Prisoner.
Thanks for the info, Aus80s, I didn't know that.
@@Austech Jane sang" girl on the wall " and "taxi Mary" with Jo Jo zep.
Wow cool info. Thanks.
Love it. Play it over and over.
Since hearing this on the radio the other day, I am playing it over and over also.
Same. It’s a hugely catchy song but so well done. How was it not a massive hit !!
Fantastic teenage memories.
Stephen Cummings was very talented and charismatic. Great vocal range and quite poetic.
I still have them on vinyl and it's one of my most treasured records. Saw them at Coolangatta a few times - I can almost remember the sets they played even though that was around 40 years ago.
Love this 👍
2:40 of pure 80's bliss. I miss it. 😍
Don’t Throw Stones was a incredible favourite from the band!!
Songs of our youth, absolutely agree most under rated band
Love this song and the film clip. For nearly 3 minute's I was back in the 80s. Thanks.

INXS are cool, though THE SPORTS were and are awesome.
This would have to be One of the best 10 video clips ever !👍
This would have gone over so well in Canada! 🇦🇺🇨🇦😍
Always loved this band and their music totally resonates
Awesome Aussie band thanks for wonderful music 🥰🥰👍👍

Damn Matt Finish was the best of the group!! Short Note blows me away every time
Plenty more to mention....Scribble, the Go Betweens, the Venetians, the Dugites. A lot of lesser known Aussie bands producing great music.
Ok, we did like the New Wave stuff coming out of the UK, but with the Aussie and NZ pub bands, those aussie rock standards were the staple for a long, long time.
Your comment alone got me searching all of them other bands.
They were definitely the days!
it was a great era for Aussie music 79-82
I was 13 and a Sports fan.
Brilliant song
Takes me back to the Manly Vale Hotel 😁😎👍
Units built on that site now the manly vale was a great pub music venue the sports were awsome
Best years, Mad band The Sports xx̌x
Love this song
Love this one and don't throw stones how good were the 80s compared to the crap of today
Growse song, good times.
great song great band.
Great song, reminds me of my childhood in Sydney 😊
Gawd I love that song 👏👏👏
HAS NOT aged!!!
A song l always sing when I'm on a train!

Awesome song
This is just perfect pop.
Best wishes ,hope your on the mend, thanks for the great memories x
love it the sports were a great Australian band
Good song
It’s a great day
Gr8 band.
I think this song would have been a bigger hit, had not Split Enz released "I got you" at the same time.
Both are on compilation album Full Boar. Also on it is Driver's Seat, and Dream Police by Cheap Trick

Molly treated James Freud like shit.
One of the greatest surfing bands ever...
❤
Quite literally ran into Stephen Cummings on a street corner in Elwood once. Just didn't see each other. :)
He had a reasonably good solo career.
Awesome...thanks for this.
Sensational alright part of the Carlton cult bringing out hit after hit.
Hilariously weird music video, but excellent song :-)
NOT really a train
Love this song love he band
I heard somewhere the young lady in the clip was the producer's office secretary, not a model. Has anyone else heard that rumour?
should have more views
Steven Cummings looks as though he could pass for being James Reynes older brother ?????
Steven Guegens
Funny, I thought the same thing! Also their singing style and sound is so similar if they sang each other’s songs it would be hard to tell them apart!
Nothing like the movie.
Pretty flash train for 1980, reality was red rattlers at the time.
Looks like they're in one of the Enterprise's space shuttles.
Lmao
...and those blue jobs.
It's a studio mate
@@jonnightrain um. I know. Lol.
I prefer this version, more raw. Awesome
Possibly THE most under-rated band in Australian.....no WORLD history. They should have been mega stars.
Should our athletes go to Beijing in 2022? The Sports must go ahead.
Amazing song and i'm sure Australian Crawl could have done a really good version of this song.
That must be a young Geoffrey Rush?!
hi stephen did you go to holy fosary primary school in the sixties ?

whos the girl
died in a car crash not long after this video apparantly
A good surfing band. Not a Cronulla style band. They were more a manly sea eagles style band. Northern beaches.
The back crew look like ….
This is nowhere near their best stuff either. What did the detective say, when we go out tonight, they could do it all from punk to funk.
I first heard this song at the train station in Mount Isa in 1980.
