Every New Year’s Day, I have a special ritual where I listen to Vivaldi’s ‘The Four Seasons’ to welcome the upcoming seasons of the year. It’s a tradition for me to start with the ‘Spring’ concerto as spring begins, followed by ‘Summer,’ ‘Autumn,’ and ‘Winter’ throughout the year. I make sure to give this beautiful music my full attention and don’t multitask while listening. It’s a moment of pure enjoyment and appreciation for the artistry of Vivaldi.
In the south, we believe that when a butterfly is near us is a sign that a loved one who has passed on is nearby. I immediately thought of your dad. Have a Peaceful day with him nearby. 💙
♥
That's a very sweet comment
I had the same thought - another southerner here.
My son attended a school for a couple of years that based itself ( as much as possible) on Charlotte Mason’s principles. The children would all go out once a week on a nature walk in the centre of Cambridge, uk and draw in their journal. It was so sweet☺️
Jennifer- a wonderful book that reminds me of Spring is “The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady” by Edith Holden. It is a book of her drawings of nature paired with poetry from writers like Tennyson, Coleridge and Browning, which is done monthly for an entire year (1906). The book also contains her nature notes. It is a beautiful book that I think many others would enjoy. I wanted to pass this on so that others could appreciate its beauty if they so choose. Thank you!
I love this book too! It's so inspiring to help me continue with nature journaling.
I will check this out!
This sounds amazing. I will definitely check it out! Thank you!
Thank you for posting about this, it’s been on my to be read list for a while now. I have the Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady book of knitting! Not that I have knit anything from it but the photos and illustrations are beautiful.
The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady is the exact book I thought of when Jennifer asked us to share springtime reading suggestions. It’s delightful!!
I recently bought a beautiful carafe for my nightstand. I made cucumber water last night.
I used to be so in touch with the natural world and over the last few years I seem to have lost that connection. Thank you for the inspiration to get back outside and get my feet dirty ❤ 🌳🌻🍃
Even in snowy Tahoe the birds are coming alive. They can sense change in the air even though we are a bit delayed here in the mountains. Spring is very welcome!
I love observing the birds!
Tahoe!! I’ve been nostalgic for your area. We lived on the north shore when I was two-to-five years old, and my first childhood memories were made there. 🥰
Snowy here where I am too! But even still the air is not as cold...so thankful for that! The hares are turning from white to brown again 🤩
There are books for all four seasons edited by Melissa Harrison. They are collections of essays and poetry about nature in the English country side. I leave the bookmarks in them, so when the seasons change, I can start the season where I left off. I’ve never been to England but I’m really enjoying them.
Could you please tell me the name of the Melissa Harrison nature book? Thank you.
If you ever make it to England, do see Gloucestershire and the border area between Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire. (That's my old stomping ground) and possibly Wiltshire (crop circle country in summer). You'd probably want to see Windsor but I'd avoid the big towns just outside London, some of those areas are not safe now. Last time I was there was 2018 and I fulfilled a long held wish to visit York. Walked atop the city walls and attended evensong in the Minster.
Even though the snow will continue through May where I live, I still notice things thar represent spring. Our Robin's have returned and the sounds of birds echoing here. The snow is wetter and melts faster. The temperatures come out of freezing during the day.
I am part of a wellness group that does things such as; evening nature walks, foraging events, outdoor yoga practice and forest bathing (this is the time we go off on our own with our journals and get inspired by nature) thx for the lovely video
Would you mind elaborating on this further? I can give you my email if that is easier.
@@catherinecorn2371 you can research forest bathing and nature groups in your area
I just purchased a 2 year subscription to Victoria! I keep all my back issues, lovely magazine! Looking forward to your article!
It’s been a freakish 80F here in the San Francisco Bay Area recently. So, yesterday, I put my wool/cashmere dresses and skirts into their summer storage bags (with lavender sachets). But, I’m keeping my cashmere joggers and sweaters out in my wardrobe a bit longer, it seems like every spring I store them too early, then regret it. The mornings are still very cool, too. The last two springs, it didn’t warm up until mid-June and I wanted my woolies back out and accessible (after storing them in mid-May). This heat wave can’t last forever, but they did come much earlier than usual this year, the first was in March, very strange. I hate hot weather, especially since menopause, the hot flashes never go away, and I don’t have central AC. It’s not considered necessary for San Francisco, and in The City proper, it isn’t. But, we have very different microclimates, at only less than 15 miles from the city center, it’s often up to 30+F hotter in my little suburban city. The only thing I can stand to wear on hot days is a linen dress. Fortunately, I just finished ironing mine, so they’re ready to go, but still in my storage closet,
Good morning! I love the dress you are wearing! What a beautiful color on you! I like the idea of a Spring reset. 💖
Thank you! ♥
My husband and I are both tall so we love getting old navy tall sizes too! Love their cotton and linen stuff.
Opening all the windows and catching the clean sweeter air. Clearing out to stuffy winter air.
I don't have many plants out of dormancy yet, but I do have dandelion and lemon balm... so dandelion tea, it is!😊
Thank you for showing cruelty free makeup as that is all I will buy ❤
In Spring, I love to read A.E. Housman's "Loveliest of Tees, the Cherry Now" from his collection "A Shropshire Lad". Another favorite, although not strictly speaking a springtime poem, is "The Barrel Organ" by Alfred Noyes. I so love the line: ""Come down to Kew in Lilac-time".💜😍
That dress, Jennifer!! Silk, I'm guessing, based on the drape. The color, the design, the pattern - truly lovely. Good color for you as well.
That beautiful dress is so you, the color is stunning on you! Yes, doing everything to reset for Spring and enjoying the change. Thanks Jennifer 😊
Ooh! The big gloves made an appearance!❤
Always!
You are the 2nd person to mention bay leaf tea to me. I have never heard of it before. I hear bay leaf and I think meat sauce. I'm definitely going to make a pot myself. I'm a big fan of hibiscus tea as well🌺🌹🌿☺
same
big bay leaf in red sauce --but mom said to never eat it?!!
Poetry is something I have only really started enjoying in the last year, but I have discovered a favorite poet. Gerard Manley Hopkins has some absolutely beautiful poetry. I do have to do some research to understand the poems, but they have become all the more meaningful because of that. My favorite is As Kingfishers Catch Fire. I am currenly memorizing his poem titled Spring, which is very fitting to this lovely season.
Nothing is so beautiful as Spring -
When weeds in wheels, shoot long and lovely and lush;
Thrush’s eggs look little low heavens, and thrush
Through the echoing timber does so rinse and wring
The ear, it strikes like lightnings to hear him sing;
The glassy peartree leaves and blooms, they brush
The descending blue; that blue is all in a rush
With richness; the racing lambs too have fair their fling.
What is all this juice and all this joy?
A strain of the earth’s sweet being in the beginning
In Eden garden. - Have, get, before it cloy,
Before it cloud, Christ, lord and sour with sinning,
Innocent mind and Mayday in girl and boy,
Most, O maid’s child, thy choice and worthy the winning.
Beautiful spring ideas, especially the poem. I love celebrating National Poetry Month every April. This year's poster has this hopeful line from a poem by Lucille Clifton, "And may you in your innocence sail through this to that."
Ah, I love that!
I love bay leaf tea. You'd think it would be bitter bc it's a savory herb, but it's not. You don't even need any sweetener. It's really good for when you're sick bc it's antimicrobial. Drink it especially if you have a sore throat.
Hi Jennifer, I love your dress! Beautiful video!❤
As a past homeschool mom, I encouraged nature journaling with my children and I often still add some nature art or little poems to my art journal. One of my favorite nature poets is Celia Thaxter. Our spring is still in transition, but we are seeing many signs of spring on the way! Such an exciting time in the northern plains.
Hello from Spain! After an unusual rainy and cold easter here, spring has arrived and birds announce it with their thrill. I find this time of year so inspiring.. Thank you Jennifer for sharing with us these beautiful tips, to delight the season as much as possible.
I wish you all a nice and lovely weekend 🌷
I love Charlotte Mason, but never did the nature Journaling. But it's a great thing.
You look lovely in this shade of red!
Love to hear you talk about nature journaling! I teach music at a Charlotte Mason homeachool co-op, and nature drawing/journaling with the students has been a very healing experience for me these last 2 years. I was never an artist, but it's been so calming to observe and draw the leaves and flowers in the yard. Happy Spring to you, Jennifer!
Spring is my favorite season! I have never journaled about nature really but your suggestion resonates. I have several bird feeders in my yard and love all the different types of birds that visit. Also, all the varieties of plants that are blooming make me so happy that capturing all that should be fun.
Your bay tree is so pretty! I am from the Northeast and have never seen 1 in person. Thanks, Anne
This color suits you so well Jennifer! Love your videos. They are so calming
We love this video! Staying hydrated is so important!
I love the Vitajuwel ♥️
I add Bioplasma from Hylands to my daily water. I feel good and my skin is soft.
This reminds me about Emerson's essay, "Nature".
Happy Spring Jennifer - I loved your article in the March/April issue of Victoria “ Bringing the Garden In”! It really put me in a wonderful mindset for the season. Looking forward to more of your writing in coming issues. I have all of your books, and have gifted many copies to family and friends over the past few years. Your videos are just lovely. Thank you for your beautiful perspective and inspiring stories. 💐💕🦋
I have years of notes about my gardening ventures, but never went outside to journal about what I experienced as it is happening..a live experience. There was a heavy rain and the air smells so fresh and clean ..after I came inside, it began to hail! Now that was exciting!
I love cucumber lemon water.. so refreshing..Stacie
Thank you for your videos that inspire beauty and grace. I received my Victoria magazine in the mail today, and I dwelled on your musings for a nice, long while. Victoria magazine inspired my wedding choices (1989) and also my twin daughters’ names (Victoria Elizabeth and Savannah Lynn). 🌷
Every Easter Season I either watch the movie or read the book" Chocolat" by Joanne Harris (sometimes both) and then in April watch or read "Enchanted April" by Elizabeth von Arnim. Both are beloved seasonal for me. We are still a bit chilly and some snow still on the way in Utah, but really looking forward to the wildflowers and all that spring brings.
Thank you ❤
I have enjoyed this video as I love to relate to nature. I hope you won't mind if I point out the butterfly / passed loved ones context, I and my husband have had between us six very significant events involving butterflies and I could not mention it to anyone unless I was convinced they were messages from deceased loved ones especially because of the way they appeared and the timings. One brief example being my sister-in-law had ovarian cancer and sadly died 6 months before my daughters' wedding. Whilst saying their vows a butterfly flew in and hovered over the couple for a while and out again, the same butterfly visited whilst my husband gave a speech and mentioned his sister, the butterfly hovered over her family's table. Then when my son married in a completely different venue (different country) 14 months later the same type of butterfly came and sat on my order of service (the wedding took place on a beach) I feel sure your father is with you. much love x
Wow, that is so special ♥️ Thank you for sharing it with me ♥️♥️
Great ideas Jennifer. Also , your dress is absolutely beautiful on you! 💗
I love the outside journaling idea Jennifer💖🌸 I think I will do this today☀️
I just reset a small corner spot on my deck with a new umbrella and place to sit and sip coffee or tea in the early morning. I will have to add some nature journaling! I love that idea
Thanks for the advice. My favorite spring poem is Daffodils by William Wordsworth
What a lovely video. Coincidentally today I changed the winter clothes for spring clothes.
I love your ten-item wardrobe videos. Will you be doing one this spring? Enjoy your day! Best wishes from the Netherlands
I will! We have some ten-item wardrobe videos starting next week!
Have you ever tried holy basil tea? It has an amazing aroma! Easy to grow in the garden
One of my favourites.
Thank you for this reminder. 💜 A dear friend many miles away gave me a jar of holy basil that I haven’t used in a while. I miss her and she’ll be tickled to see a pic of me enjoying tea and toasting her.
Spring is my favourite season 🙂
Nature Journaling-I have really enjoyed “The Nature Journaler”-Heather Winslow LeFabvre.
Once a month she chooses a different nature topic. She includes nature walks sit spot prompts, what to look for in nature for the month, lots of literature that goes along with the months theme. But best of all the third Friday she has “Teatime”where she shares a teatime recipe and recommends a tea blend to compliment the recipe.
Drawing and watercolor tutorials are included-she is wonderful with this!!
Then ending the month with reflections over what you have learned
I’ve been a member for a year and have thoroughly enjoyed everything she has done, especially the months she tied nature with CS Lewis and Queen Victoria.
What a beautiful raspberry pink dress. It looks like silk, is it? Also, thanks for the link to those amazing elbow length gloves.
Your videos are. 💐💕🦋
Thank you so much ♥️
Just made a cup of freshly brewed tea with fresh rosemary, thyme and mint. Turned on your video and there you are recommending to do that! Thank you Jennifer, I’m on the right path!❤️
Perfect timing! Thank you! 🦋 🌞
Very inspiring. Thank u Jennifer. ❤
Thank you for this video!
❤ Jennifer, blessings and thank you for all your wonderful videos and ideas! You look amazing....❤
Loved this video!! ❤thank you as always Jennifer!
I love adding dual purpose flowers to the garden, that are good for tea and also for attracting pollinators! I dried and made tea from our Rose Mint Agastache, and added some organic lavender from our local Granary. It was wonderful!
Enjoying this as we are coming out of a snow and ice storm in the northeast!
I have hawthorn trees which are are really good for the heart, sorrow, and boosting the immune system. I’m still waiting for them to leaf out again.☺️ my old faithful spearmint is coming in as well.
I loved the robin at about 8m55s. I miss robins. I always like to get Christmas cards with robins on them. We have some wonderful birds here in Australia especially where I live, colourful parrots and bronze-wings whose wing feathers glow in the sun with shifting rainbow colours like water on petrol in a puddle. But I would love to see a real live robin once more.
what a beautiful video full of wonderful ideas! Nature journaling is my favorite- I love going outside on a warm summer night and writing under the light of a full moon- Happy spring Connoisseur fam!🌷😌
Spring in Buffalo... snow!
jealous!!!! i lived in central ny for college and LOVED it. no seasons down here in NC, just hot, hotter, hottest
Hi Jennifer, I enjoyed your video. Your garden looks lovely. We like to spring clean too. 😊 Have a wonderful weekend!❤ xo Karen
You look so beautiful, Jennifer! The romantic dress color, the hair, earrings and makeup, just perfection.
I so enjoyed the tips. The “healing cleanse” of spring cleaning, I’m going to keep that in mind as I do this.
My favorite spring book is called “Paris in Bloom” by Georgianna Lane. It’s more a picture book than literature, but it is full of splendidly gorgeous photographs.
Good morning Jennifer and everyone
Good morning! Thanks for watching today. ✨
Oh Jennifer, this video was just beautiful and very refreshing! Thank you!! Here in our part of WI, we are on our third day of snow. So. I'm not feeling overly spring-y today...however...I made a lovely cup of mint/lavender tea to drink with your video, after I saw the title, haha!! It did the trick! I know you have your favorite brands, but may I recommend RISHI tea in the lavender/mint? It is delicious!! Have a lovely day and see you tomorrow! With love, Kellie
Good morning, Jennifer I was watching your video on presentable Undergarments yesterday and I thank you for posting this intimates brand, Montelle. I may have been searching for a good pair of Bras I was looking for. Their wireless T-shirt one is what I was looking for. And they offer Afterpay🎉 that's great! My Bras that I wear, have been discontinued since 2020?
Oh yes! Montelle Intimates is a great brand. I'm glad you found a good bra!
Hi Jennifer, thanks for this soothing video. 'Daisy Time' by Marjorie Pickthall is a sweet spring poem.
Hi Jennifer, Thank you for introducing Typology - and the Blumene - I believe both have been adding benefit to my skincare. I was wondering what you have been using on your hair - its been looking so fabulous!! Thank you in advance for your hair product must haves!! 😊
❤❤❤
Perfect timing on this video! I have been putting away winter clothing and reevaluating my spring/summer wardrobe. I also planned on spending the afternoon reading outside today. It is glorious here in Deep East Texas. Jennifer, please link the storage containers you use for storing your wardrobe. Thank you! This was a lovely video. 💕
And don’t worry, I don’t have a high-profile schedule🤣
Dear Jenn, does your family also use and benefit from the 10-piece wardrobe?
@TheDailyConnoisseur Can I apply sunscreen on top of the tinted serum?
I apply my sunscreen first but I'm sure you could top it up doing the day...
@@TheDailyConnoisseur thank you ❤️ love your videos and you inspire me!
Beautiful dress but very pricey.
Interesting how a lot of people are using the word “reset” more often these days.
Glow up, make over, improvement, transformation, reorganization could all be good alternatives. The word reset does have a doomsday connotation even though it just means to set up again. I think she just means, starting over, changing things up for spring, or focusing on the season and the changes that come with it.
😮😢 yes indeed. I seek alternative words to certain things wherever possible. Untrain the brain and be careful how you describe what you wish for.
@@taniacummings9207 What do you mean by be careful how you describe what you wish for?
@@user-ks3qr5fk6m because if we start using "their" expressions we are succumbing to their neuro linguistic programming and acceptance of it. Same as people repeating in a mocking tone the "you'll own nothing..." mantra. It's meant to ridicule the 🌎alists but it's actually reinforcing and programming the enormously powerful subconscious mind to acceptance. Where our thoughts/words go, our energy and intent follows. That little video with the annoying grinning guy with curly hair that they put up on their website was taken down after a very short time but social media keeps replaying it and reciting it and it is so dangerous to our collective psyche. They know exactly what they are doing.
@@taniacummings9207 I understand what you mean in terms of accepting vocabulary that is meant to make us accept things. For instance, using the word Transwomen to describe a man who believes 🙏🏻 that he is a women. This will normalize men competing and beating women in sports and erasing women sports. In another sense, I don’t believe in the law of attraction. Saying something out loud will not manifest something. I cannot simply visualize something while not working towards it to attain it and expect to achieve or attain it.
🥰
