- In this video we visit the Sunbury Model Railway Club, just outside of Melbourne, Victoria. We sit down with club member Michael, who tells us all about the club, the layouts they operate and their annual model railway exhibition. In the video we have a good look at HO Scale Victorian layout Gisborne and English OO Layout Crosby Stephen, plus more!
Don't forget to leave a comment with some feedback and of course subscribe if you haven't already and I'll be back next month with more model railway news.

Well done Michael.
Brilliant video Will James
G'day Will, pass on my thanks to the Sunbury Railway Club for that video coverage, great review of there layouts and club involvement, cheers mate, Neil 🤠.
Thx Will for filming the club & congrats to the Sunbury club! Great layouts
Nice video Will. What an awesome club with a good number of layouts. Always been a fan of a few of there exhibition layouts. - Nicholas.
Looks like a great club! The layouts are terrific, very well presented. Thanks for sharing Will.
Great layout.Great detail.Great commentary.
Excellent video. Learned a few things about the club I didn’t already know. 😎
Great video, I really enjoy this series where you’re visiting club rooms/peoples layouts and letting them tell their story and showcasing what they are passionate about. Gives us a chance to see something we may never visit. Thankyou!
Thank you! Something I hope to do more of!
Another great video, Will. I lived in Sunbury as a boy, from the early 1970s until 1981 when the family moved to Gisborne, and my father was an active member of SMRC. I have not been back to Sunbury (or Bulla) since but it is fabulous to see and hear that the club is still going strong and doing really well, and the members are producing such amazing layouts. Of course DC only back in the day, my (now late) father would have loved DCC. Some great memories for me.
I am in the process of digitsing the hundreds of 35mm Kodachrome slides that were mostly shot around Sunbury, Rupertswood and Riddells Creek. There will be gold in there for sure and perhaps some may be of use to the Club for the 70s and 80s era modellers. Take care.
I always liked seeing Tallarook
Very nice presentation and love seeing the GWR locomotives going around the fictional UK Route, Crosby Stephen based on the Settle to Carlise line.
Will, thank you, a great presentation on the Sunbury Club.
I have seen Gisborne a couple of times, and it is impressive, so a chance to see the other layouts would be awesome.
Thank you for collating the report, and sharing.
Cheers, and stay safe, Michael
what a brilliant club, thx all for the insight
The ‘I want a break!’ audio 2 close is nice touch btw
A credit due to Norm Bray, James Coy, John Scott, Dr. Larry McGrath and Alan Williams etc for starting the club, as well as the late Ray Leopold plus John Hill, Roy Hill, Kevin Schultz and various others too. Great memories. Laurie Green too. A wonderful club
Max Herman, Paul Welshe and Don Harvey as well - Mal Baker and many others too!
Norm Bray and I were schoolmates at Beaumaris High in theearly 60's and VR trainee enginemen in late 60's and early 70's.
Saw the layouts at the showgrounds today. Very lovely.
Much appreciated, I will pass on your compliments at our next monthly meeting
Looks lika a club I'm going to have to visit 😀👍
Excellent!
Just sat down to watch this, I’ve always been a fan of Tallarook and Leopold, but Gisborne is awesome, really nice stuff! (Love the coach at the crossing too)
Look forward to Sunbury as well as that develops
Didn't they also have Alexandra layout. What happened to that one? I really liked that one
Robin Bootle built Alexandra - he is a member at Sunbury
Just out of interest are there many people out there with US layouts in HO scale built in Melb/Vic?? Most times I see N scale not so much HO ... Love the Aussie stuff, I take an interest in both regions!
The Gisborne layout Whats the road surface used around the goods shed and platforms
A great video.. but what about those of us who do not do prototypical and don't run DCC locos?
Unfortunately I don’t think they cater for DC running! Might be best to get in contact with them!
Thanks Will.
