Hi, I can do no more than totally endorse all the positive comments (and all the love) from all the other incredibly moved viewers. I'm a north coast NSW train lover who spent years in my Grandmother's house in Lismore, directly opposite the main engine sheds and shunting yards. A total paradise for a young train enthusiast. This has to be (even if it is Victoria!) the best and most convincing railway model I've ever seen. Thanks so much, you've given me a wonderful half hour which I shall revisit many times.
I have enduring memories of watching tandem steam locomotives hauling both passenger and goods trains across the flats immediately to the east of Beaufort around 1954. I guess that reveals me as an old codger. Thanks for reviving the memories.
@@michealproboscas3979 Always has been lots of VR stuff available, just they used to be predominately bra$$ and limited production numbers and now we are seeing hybrid and full plastic locomotives coming to market. They arent cheap still in a lot of cases but much more affordable than brass. I recall lusting over model dockyard R class in the 80's a friend of my dads had on his mantelpiece when i was a lad and later in the 90's i boarded with a guy who had a huge collection, i think all major VR diesels, walker railmotors, a Derm and at least one steam engine that was an X class iirc.I could never afford them and i did drift away from railways (of all scales) shortly after.Passion has resurfaced of late, i ordered a K class the other day and bought a T just today.I say im not going to go too crazy buying lots but these things have a way of snowballing...
Fffar out! At one point I was wondering why the car didn't take off after the train went through the crossing I was was so lulled into a bygone era. This is some exceptional modelling. The attention to detail is exceptional esp for lovers of our good *broad gauge* locomotives, rolling stock and infrastructure. The semaphores are so much a part of it. Even the eucs and grass are amazing.
You've matched up all the audio perfectly. I especially like the whining A class going through the railway crossing as it uses dynamic brakes to pull into the station 😁
The weathering on the locos, rolling stock and even the rails is damn near perfect. I grew up in Melbourne in Broadmeadows near what used to be Metropolitan Dairies opposite the rail line and I don't recall EVER seeing a clean VR locomotive. I remember all those locomotive sounds EXACTLY bringing back childhood memories. When I moved out of home away from Broady and away from the rail lines it took a lot of getting used to; not hearing the trains anymore. There was a signal about a hundred meters from my house and often the trains would stop and wait idling for a while then their engines would roar back their power and start to move again with all the rolling stock clanging back into motion.... All these sights and sounds took me way back to the days of the Taits and Harris trains as well. Ahhhhhh, thanks for the memories. :o)
Was confused until I read the blurb below the video, was thinking 'Man, this DCC sound is awesome! Model train technology sure has come a long way!' :D
Ellesmere Wildwood: You can take the kid out of Broady, but you can’t take the Broady out of the kid! Superb camera work. Masterfully shot by Sharkey. Hollywood awaits. Spare a thought for those poor car drivers. Taking forever to get through the crossing.
As an ex Victorian Railway-man this bought a tear to my eye. Thank you for posting this marvellously accurate working diorama. The good old days of Vic-Rail live again!
Absoloutely, freakingly, unbelievabley, mesmerizing viewing! The layout, the rollingstock, the detail, the noise, is beyond my wildest imagining. Your "ground level" photography and viewing perspectives are spot on! SharkytheGunzel - Thank You. 🙋
That is truly amazing. Have never seen a model railway with that level of detail. In fact with those realistic sounds you for get you are not watching the real thing. Congratulations and very well done!
A fantastic layout, just how I remember VR as a boy in the 60's. My only suggestion is to make those tarps on the wagons matt in colour as they look a bit to much glossy
A lovely bit of modelling and capturing time and place. I really like the way the ballast, grass and trees add to the scenarios along the line. Thank you so much for sharing.
Superb layout with best sound effects I have heard. I used to travel through Beaufort in the late 50s, early 60s on the way to Warracknabeal. The most memorable bit was when I got on the DERM at Murtoa, Still remember being able to chat to the driver. A wonderful time from a bygone era
Can I ask you how many other branch lines in the western district, wimmera & sunraysia used DERMS as passenger trains? I missed out on seeing them on Vic lines as I grew up in the 70s and 80s in Burnley. I believe the Yaapeet, Yanac and Sea Lake lines used DERMS? What about Robinvale, Hamilton & Portland?
This is a brilliant effort on five counts. The layout is well done, a lot of time and effort and the scene is very well done. The owner has put alot of time and effort into the models, which are also brilliant. The train consists are good and bring back memories. But the time and effort to edit the sound to the trains, I take my hat off to the person who must have spent ages in the editing booth to match the sound to the pictures has done an amazing job. Well done again and for someone into the era and the modelling I can only hope I can get somewhere near this effort. Brilliant.
You Model with pure craftsmanship. By 5:01 ya sold me on your scenes you have created brilliantly! I don't know much about European-rail, but you sure make me feel like I'am there. Thanks for the video.
Amazing Australian theme of this railroad. I love the stationary and very slowly moving camera shots. Always quite annoying when other videos of model railroads whiz the camera around too fast to appreciate the layout. Excellent work.
Sharky, strangely enough, I like to see the occasional partial views of the outside structures. Maybe because it is so perfect, that it’s good to see that it is a set.
Obviously a brilliant layout. I've been following your videos for a while, and I know I'm echoing others' comment, but this is an incredible video. There are a lot of points where it's not clear that this is a model railway, rather than the real thing. That's an exceptionally hard trick to pull off, given the vagaries of depth-of-field and focusing. Absolutely fantastic work!
Wow! Great job filming, editing, and mixing in the sound. The action kept me involved in each scene. The scenery is amazing, well done and not overdone. The grasses of various lengths, even the weeds and grass in the tracks were well done. Trees, fences, animals, buildings, all well done and supporting your railroad scene. The linkage setup running from the tower and down the tracks is an amazingly well done show of RR equipment. The large number and variety of cars and loads shown was great. Really like the passenger train that enables the rider's cars to go with them. Well done, thanks, yes I'm subscribing and looking forward to seeing more of your videos.
That passenger train with the car carrier at the back is the 'Overland' which runs from Melbourne to Adelaide. Sadly it nows runs on a different path through Geelong and re-appears back on the same line at Ararat. Me and my family used to travel on it around 1979-1985 at Xmas and believe me this looks like the real thing.
It's been said over and over: This is just beautiful. So relaxing to watch. Great Aussie landscapes, awesome camera angles and the sound work adds to it. I have watched a lot of model railway videos. This is one of the best!
Beautiful model and great detail of the visually dirty trains for the supposed environment in which they circulate, really impressive, congratulations.
@@SharkytheGunzel Yes. I believe they are the same locos as the famous 'Lady Norrie' loco set which hauled the Overland in the 1960s? I live in Adelaide but hoping to move back to Melb and start a layout with a mix of VR, V/line, NR & ANR lead trains. And I'd love to secure one of the VR DERM's. Cheers.
great video work pity the operator doesn't know what vehicles go where in a consist as 4 wheel vehicles are not allowed to be marshalled next to jumbo wagons as the coupler swing on the jumbo is greater than the 4 wheel wagon and would derail the train
Great work and so perfect but missing the telegraph poles… or were these not used for signal transmission on this section of line? I guess they might also unnecessarily obstruct the viewing angles? It might also be hard to model them…was just curious if any had actually done that before.
This a private layout that's unfortunately not owned by me. I'm willing to give out the owners information but it will hopefully been seen at some model rail exhibition over the next few years.

Great layout love the weathering just adds a new level to it. The white square guard van I have never seen that before.
Weathered and detailed to perfection! Feels like home!
This is a masterpiece. A true work of Aussie art. Well done, and thanks for letting us see this beautiful layout.

There bringing victorian steam locos out ho scale j classes and d3 class and k classes

Those camera angles give me chills. Something about those curved platforms just does it for me. 66 years old and I still salivate over this stuff.
Curves look better on many things.
Cars, women and model train layouts to name a few.
@@SharkytheGunzel HAHA! Good point!

This layout is great inspiration for building an Victorian railway yard. So many classic VR features are depicted on the layout
OK!!! I'm going back to the train room and do some serious work! This is what you call 'Inspiring' stuff!

It doesn't look like there's anyone in them.
I think they got sick of waiting and just left...
VLine is pretty slow at the best of times. Plenty of time for a beer 🍺 or even two 🍻

Great video. Love the dub of real engines. Makes it feel that much more real with this great layout.
One of the most realistic model railways I have seen. I can only imagine how many hours of work must have gone into creating it Absolutley superb!!!
Terrific work. The gum trees are the best! Great sounds!

Nice layout! Living here in the States, those locomotives sure sound familiar.
All the locos modelled here have EMD prime movers in prototype.
Hence why they sound familiar.
Awesome video and sensational layout.👍
Awesome layout, I like how you were able to add realism by using sound.
Very realistic! I particularly liked the ZMF/VVDY brakevan!

Love this.. the sound effects make it even better. Well done :)
Superb looking layout and a wonderful video.
If only they could all sound and rattle like that. How true to life and awesome would that be
Wonderful reality. Memories from the 1970s. Just missing the Walkers
OMG, my home town, love it great job cheers
Your layout is timely amazing. A lot of great details plus excellent sound. Thanks for sharing.
Brilliant layout and video! The only thing missing is a hairdryer to get the tarps flapping!
Yes, that's one thing Model Railways lack. :P
As a TB Victorian I have to admit those SAR/ANR 900 class locos are attractive, and I'm a VR S class lover.
Yeah I have a pair of the SDS 900s and they're definitely some of my favourite locos I own!

Looooooooooove your layout.
This is so realistic. The best model railroad I have seen. Sounds are so good. Is this available for public to come and see it.
This is a private layout.
Probably won't do many exhibitions from what the owner's said.
is it in a garage?
Wow that's brilliant
Really cool
awesome Layout loved the sound on all wagons I'm sure they can be found on an ECU system or was it a kit you got and installed on most of your wagons
All the sound you hear was overdubbed with sounds of the real trains from videos of the ones featured.
Brilliant!
Amazing layout, also where did you get the Overland Carriages
Not mine but they are also TrainBuilder.
And have also been rebuilt in order to make them run.
All the staff kids from Langi Kal Kal were late to Trawalla PS when a fuckn long train got ahead of the magpies bus
wer abouts is the layout located be great to check it out
Were did you get all these amazing locomotives
Various stores and from exhibitions.
Only a few of the locos are mine, the majority below to the owner of the layout.
As per the comments below this is the GROUSE
