One of my first PS2 games, the opening Stalingrad level highlighted that console generation for me, genuinely had me in awe at the time. It was a really messy game in hindsight especially looking at it again from this review, but man did it have some cool set pieces. Just kind of sad too looking back this was the best game Spark Unlimited actually made, and it's really at best just a serviceable shooter. Though serviceable looks like gold when compared to things like Turning Point and Legendary.
Fun fact, the guy who composed the music for this game, Micheal Giachino, went on to compose music for Pixar and composed the music for ratatouille, up, inside out.
The guys a legend
Still one of the best intros when you ride a boat into stalingrades shores
My first CoD game. I loved this back in the day.
This game for me was insanely difficult
Spark unlimited went over budget with this game and never got to make the planned sequel Call of Duty: Combined Forces
God I adore this game, my favorite soviet campaign in the WW2 cods
the controls were hard, understanding where to go was even harder. but the game, the game was a masterpiece
first cod i ever had. the theme had me in tears, 10/10 it what made cod such a good franchise, well till black ops 3 and after but we dont talk about that
Yknow, when I played this as a kid I never even thought twice about the fact that the armored company in that snow level was a segregated company.
I was wondering if that was the case. My only experiences playing this game was at my best friend’s house (still friends!) when we were like 6 and 7 and trying over, and over, and over again to beat the very first mission in Stalingrad. Not sure that we ever did, or if it was actually difficult or we were just retarded. When watching this I wondered whether or not it was like a single black soldier and went the CoD WW2 route or if it was actually a segregated division. Pretty cool stuff.
Not sure why but to me this game alway felt more like medal of honor specifically frontline with the slow character movement, gunplay and the detailed death animations that played if you hit them in specific areas than a call of duty game. It's a neat game but definitely one of the more forgettable entries that got overshadowed for the larger entires to series similarly to what happened with Big Red One.
It was made by some of the same devs, they left EA after Frontline to form Spark Unlimited.
I always thought the same lol
I still have flashbacks of that first American level. Escorting those Sherman's was hell
Thanks for the review. Persuaded me to buy it.
Ah yes. My very first CoD. And in many ways still one of the best games i played in my life.
you have some low standards if this is one of the best games you've ever played lol
@@ThunderShot66 most likely looking at it with rose coloured lences. It is a better WW2 CoD than CoD Ww2 and CoD Vanguard thats for sure.
@@blowbert9126 well i won't argue that but i grew up loving it too but replaying it a few years ago on Hard difficulty. it's pretty horrible. i did finish it but man it was not fun at all.
This is one of my favorite games ever. The critique of the African campaign being short is my biggest gripe.
Can you do the old Reign of Fire Game? And great review! I remember this game being so difficult as a kid lol
Very professional review. Nice job.
I remember my disk of this getting scratched so I never got past level 3. Tried the mp years later on a ps3 and still found it active. Pretty fun for what it was.
I actually played this game online in early 2016 before they shut the ps2 severs down. It was decent
I remember this being rock hard back in the day. It's a real shame this never got a HD re-release like CoD: Classic.
Good game, but my favorite game from this dev was probably Legendary on Xbox 360. I know it isn't an amazing 10/10 masterpiece, but I had fun playing it and would've welcomed an improved sequel.
Hard to believe I once really liked Call of Duty...
I'll never forget the hype around this game it was well deserved it's all people talked about until Modern Warfare came out. Everyone and their grandma was talking about Modern Warfare miss those days when a new concept for a game would drop and it was a huge deal.
One of those games tainted by nostalgia. Spent hours and hours playing this and Big Red One as a kid on the Gamecube and loving it. I remember really struggling with the North Africa levels. But after watching the video, if I played it again today, would probably not have as much fun with it.
I still love them Finest Hour and Big Red One are miles better than all those futuristic warfare games that they been making.
I remember being young and buying this thinking it was the same as the original COD, which I use to play on my older cousins PC. I also remember not understanding why it was a totally different game, the biggest thing that jumped out to me is how downgraded the sound effects were.
1:09 That's Allstate's stand. Are you in good hands? ?
Even with all the nostalgia I enjoy replaying this game over and over
Activation should be Easily Remastering this old WW2 Games in the form of a compilation called COD Classis included:
COD 1
COD United Offensive
COD Finest Hour
COD 2
COD 2 Red Big One
COD 3
COD World At War
Were there parts of this game on Xbox that were so dark that you couldn't see? I remember one tunnel in particular that had enemies in it that kept lighting me up, but it was straight up so dark that I couldn't see almost anything whatsoever.
I prefer the games where you dont have regenerating health is much more of a challenge and more realistic.
This was legit my first call of duty
I really want to play this game on my Xbox One?
Love this channel and have for years. Don’t mind the new account, I always get deleted. But man... This game wasn’t great lol. I think this was when MOH was still king
My first cod
You have a great voice for presenting! Very profesional.
You should do call of duty 2 big red one.
Classic I played this back in 6th grade
i remember playing this a long time ago i think the first mission is the volga river, i just thinking how much ass it sucked, but once i saw cod 2 i realised how much better it got.
Escorting the M12 was the worst
I feel like I'm the only one who can't stand this game. Never played it as a kid, but playing it for the first time a few years ago had me livid with the bad controls, sluggish movement, and awful checkpoints.
I honestly rate Black Ops Declassified higher than this, and I rate that quite low. Great review though! I just can't agree that I would recommend this game to anyone.
nah you're not the only one. this game sucks ass
it didnt age that well I agree
also it has some BS missions ljke escorting those soldiers in the Egypt level or the ambush I have never seen that many German soldiers
the slow movement doesnt help and in the final mission when you reach to the top of the tower you see like 4 enemy soldiers pointing at you
I love this game but at the same time hate it. I beat it twice in the past year on the GameCube and Xbox. It's so hard, I struggled to beat it on easy and the checkpoints suck. But I still love the game lol I think the campaign is pretty good.
I remember being massively disappointed as a teenager playing this after experiencing the pc games
this game for me was the best ww2 cod
Who played this on the GameCube????
Lambert, is that you!?
Love this game
It tried to be United Offensive on console.
NOT ONE STEP BACK
All these bugs I've never seen on the ps2 version
For a little kid, I was really good on the online mode on ps2. I'd jump between this and big red one multiplayer before cod3 came out
Yeah baby, awoo
I have to disagree the Charectors are the the one thing that stick out to me Alexsandr Sokolov, Tanya Pavelovna, Nikolai Badanov, Edward Carlyle, Chuck Walker.
I was literally just about to replay this great timing lol
Played this on PS2 and after the first level which was quite good, the game became a chore with difficulty spikes all over the place and some really tedious missions. It’s a shame, it could’ve been a great game.
This is the only CoD I've never beaten. It was just badly designed.
same, it looked like a shittier version of the pc games.
@@ajr5678 It is. Big red one was a far better game.
@@Tyranniod Big Red One was absolutely fantastic. It FELT good to move and shoot when compared to this. You can really see mechanics and UI from Big Red One when you play CoD 3. Treyarch was performing miracles as the CoD "B-Team" at the time.
This is my favorite American and British campaign mode for ANY COD game. 🇺🇲🇬🇧
Crazy to think this game is better then the last 3 or 4 current cods.
beating this game on hard made me wanna tear my hair out
The first American mission sucks.
These games are so depressing. All the war, murder, carnage and shooting is yawn inducing. Why can't we all just get along?
Seriously?
Bc people are dumb and enjoy violence, so, politicians use it to their own benefit, simple as that
Not memorable? Ive had the names Alexander Sokalov, Tanya Pavelopna stuck in my head since i was 12 and im 31
THE best call of duty 😢❤
