the part in the mission when the Soviet commissar gives a speech to the soldiers in the factory before rushing into an open courtyard full of MGs, will forever be ingrained in my mind.
Bro I can still hear the speech "Do not count days, Do not count miles, Do not count deaths, only count the number of German's you've killed" this game was my child hood growing up, and now much like Battlefield CoD has gone down hill. sad
Finally! Nobody ever talks about this game when talking about COD. I grew up playing this game on the PS2 and it was my first cod game. I played it for the first time again recently on PS2 and it's rough. Very rough. It's got a great atmosphere, but the gameplay is extremely dated. Aiming feels like scrolling a mouse attached to a large rock and the enemies have the most obvious aimbot in any COD game. If an enemy is shooting from behind a corner, they won't adjust their aim, they just shoot you without adjusting their aim. The tank gameplay and levels are superb. Some parts of the game (Like the sewer level) are so dark you can't even see anything. The soundtrack is a gem. I still listen to the tracks to this day. Truly an underrated gem in a field of gems.
It was my first cod too and medal of honor front line was my first medal of honor. The crazy thing is all of my friends past and present in the exception of maybe three people. None of them started with finest hour most people, I know their first call of duty was the original Modern warfare. I really truly feel horrible for people that did not get to experience not only the single player call of duty games on PlayStation 2, but I especially feel bad for people that did not get to experience call of duty and it’s prime online. 2003-2012
To this day me and my brothers still quote this game every now and then, “Do not count days! Do not count miles! Count only the number of Germans you have killed!” They truely gave such a good history lesson for this game and how much emotion it had
Im 24 now and wow this is so nostalgic. Just realized this game is responsible for some of my first video game memories ever. This cod will forever have a special place in my heart and also it's cool to say that I've been playing cod since the beginning
Big Red One and Finest Hour were my intro to Call of Duty all those years ago. Between really loving Cpl Kelly in BR1, and the memorable first Mission of Finest Hour, I truly wish these games got a remaster. “DO NOT COUNT DAYS, DO NOT COUNT MILES, COUNT ONLY THE NUMBER OF GERMANS YOU HAVE KILLED”
I played allied assault after my dad, these games are incredible. As someone living on the shores of Normandy it's always so interesting to see places you know depicted.
God rising Sun was good, easily the best intro in Any video game ever, Don't get me wrong I like the D-Day landing in Frontline, But fighting through Pearl harbor just hits different.
@@lightningteam8560oh man, my dad and I played Allied Assault and it’s expansions back in the day. He used to be an avid gamer and actually beat 2 of the 3 before I did. That led us into the first CoD.

Finest hour is such a good game. BR1 is too. I wish they made still made some campaigns about soldiers, and not just super soldiers with jet packs and exoskeletons.
idk, 1940 soviets and germans still had pact to not fight eachother :D they were just conquering polish lands together and attacking france, denmark, norway etc.
In this game the russian characters fight from 1942 onward.. You prolly didn’t play this game 😂 also that cutscene isn’t the entire cutscene the video was cut.
Grew up playing this on the Gamecube and boy oh boy did it kick my ass..specifically the mission where you have to escort the tank destroyer through the city. The little details were always neat though. Like seeing that Tanya did survive the building getting shot by the tank or in the 2nd Russian tank mission when the enemies are on top of your friendly tank, if you use your machine gun they thank you and regroup to help with the rest of the mission where if you shoot with the main gun or ignore it then they die. Nothing big but always love to see little things like that. Always glad to see these older console COD games getting played, thank you for the video, was definitely entertaining!

I loved playing as the Russian sniper. It was just kinda of a nice touch to have it be a female which was actually the case for a lot of snipers in the Soviet Union. The desert rats stuff is also just a lot of fun. The 761st getting some representation in video was also on of the coolest things this franchise ever did. The battle of Remagen is also amazing. Too bad all this juicy stuff gets buried under all the other games in the series. I’d love a steam port of Big Red One and Finest Hour for pc on steam. I’d probably dump a lot of time into those.

First COD game I played. Amazing history and representation. This was back when games were story built and engaging for the player. Weapons are well done characters were amazing and the battle fields were beautiful. I really loved the tank battle in battle of the buldge. Great way to reference and honor one of the most badass tank crews in ww2, the 761st tank battalion. The amount of diversity and historical representation of different soldiers and battalions on the allied side was something I loved as a kid. Since I always watched the history channel constantly. This was my first COD on ps2, and I never have really heard anyone talk about it. Always COD 2 (Xbox 360 days) or Big red one. I had thought this was the original lol. Just seeing that artwork brings back so many memories. . .
First COD game I ever played, on PS2. I was 4 years old. Never got very far but this is perhaps one of the fondest memories I have of a video game, when my dad was still around. Thank you for this video.
this game and big red one were my intro to the series. The first 3 of them on ps2 I replayed so many times before I had internet capable of online interactions
@13:19 The DP28 MG used what's known as a pan magazine that feeds the bullets into the machinegun through the top of the chamber. it kinda works similar to what you'd see on a Lewis gun, the pan actually rotates on there as it feeds the rounds through. But just like with drum magazines on SMGs such as the Thompson, once you use up all the bullets in them they're a pain to refill with more bullets and likely took up alot more space on a soldier's equipment belt than stick mags. A similar complaint was voiced about using Drum magazines on the Thompson instead of 20-30 round sized stick mags.
Big Red One and Finest Hour were my first memories of CoD and some of the missions in Finest hour were some of the funnest I had. But that second level where you're going in the tunnel is hell if you're trying to play it on the GameCube with the colored plug ins adapted to HDMI.
I got this for Christmas one year for ps2, pretty sure it was shortly after it released because I had never heard of it until around that time. This game was kind of hard in the later missions for me as a kid.
In the PS2 version, the last guy you rescue in the SAS campaign was literally a Lt. Price. And in the original MW1 during the All Guilled Up mission briefing, he mentions "it was the first time I'd had an authorized assassination mission since the Second World War." So he's in more than a few games.
Nope, he said "It was the first time our government had authorized an assassination since the second world war." I hate to burst people's bubbles but it is simply impossible for WW2 Price to be the same character as the MW Price. If that were the case, Price would've been a fossil by MW3. The possibility of them being related may be possible but it has never been confirmed by the devs so there's no definitive answer to that.
The main menu title screen is the best. I will never forget the relaxing tall grass with the faint flashes of artillery shells booming in the distant. *chefs kiss*
I honestly think the starter mission in this game was better than the starter mission for the Russian campaign in the original game. Climbing up that hill felt far more intense and once you reached the other side of that tunnel and saw the orange engulfed atmosphere it felt like you'd stepped into hell - the music was also incredibly intense and atmospheric and sat well with the vibe of the game. I remember the music in some of the other missions actually being extremely unsettling, like in the sewer segment, it was almost like music from a horror film. All CoD games have a brilliant score, but this one was very memorable for me. I'd also like to give this game a big shout out for being the first CoD to have a female playable character in it and so early in the series. The inclusion was very historically accurate too, as many of the service women in the Russian army (in Stalingrad in particular) were some of the best snipers during the war, with one even being dubbed the Lady Of Death. Other neat additions would be the tank graffiti on the T34's, which were often painted by tank crews with messages for their foes and the Russian tank crews wearing leather jackets instead of regular infantry outfits. This game had a lot of little inclusions that many games nowadays would neglect, another one I just noticed was what looked to be a Libyan soldier among the British in the North African missions - very good attention to detail. One day I'll come back to this game once I've gotten a better PC set up, or if I get a PS2 again. This was a bitch to play as a kid and I never actually completed it, I had to use cheats to see what the rest of the campaign was like 😂 I'll finish the job one day though.
This was my first COD. I remember playing this game in Kinder on my xbox. We went to Walmart and I had choice between this or another WW2 game and I choose this one. Because of the tanks in the back of the box and seeing different flags. I choose a dad helped be a the level in the tank factory since I couldn't get through it. Me and my dad loved this game and I played it for years. One thing I regret not doing is playing XBOX LIVE back in the day. But luckily Insignia helped live those dreams I wasn't able to back in the day. That generation of console was very unique and only the games in that era could really come out in that era. Thanks of the weed now It was amazing and brought me back almost 20 years ago. Thanks for making me feel like a soon to be 25 year old boomer.
This is first game I played in my life. The stories, level design, characters, sounds, music... Everything !!! This made my childhood. I remember me playing soldier pretending I was sgt. Puskov.
Also, there's times in the middle of the night when i cant fall asleep, in the back of my mind i can hear only one phrase... "THEY'RE HITTING THE M12!"
I'm in some kind of parallel universe, because this was the first Call of Duty, and it was hugely popular. It would run on the Games Krazy consoles they had up front and everyone will play it. It was my very first COD and I have fond memories playing it.
for me my introduction of cod was Call of duty 1 and Its expansion pack United offensive one of the greatest games for me at least . great video btw great video
When I was a kid, I was never able to finish the final act of securing the bridge. I always wondered what the ending would be like after that and this video gave me closure. Well done!
The intro mixed with the beginning mission has been forever engraved into my brain. I’m certain this was one of the very if not the 1st CoD’s I ever played. It’s my second favourite, coming 2nd after WaW
The animations in this game are incredible. Depending on where you hit an enemy, they will play a death animation focusing on that area. If you hit them in the right leg, they may hold their right leg and then fall over. Their right hand, they'll hold it in pain before collapsing. What they're doing when you shoot them is also taken into account. So if they're running and you shoot them in the right leg, the leg buckles and they trip and fall over.
@11:07 if you used your machine guns to kill those germans on top of the tank you would have saved the tank lol. They are tryna break in and you just merc'd all your dudes, other than that great video dude, used to love this game as a kid
Loved this game when it came out. The only complaint I had was that the movement and walking speeds were too slow. A lot of these early shooter console games relied mostly on strafing to get the job done
finest hour was my first COD game on my cousins PS2, I moved to PC by the time COD2 came out but I'll always have fond memories of taking turns playing Finest Hour with my cousin on sleep overs
I was born in ‘93 (about to turn 30) and Finest Hour was my first introduction to the call of duty franchise. It was the first cod game I ever saw advertised on tv and it replaced Medal of Honor as the go to FPS at my summer camp
This game was the reason for my old steam username "Tillet" based off of the town you raid in the american tank mission when playing as the leader of the 761st black panthers
Back when, i could not afford a good PC to play of the COD titles like COD 1 and 2. I have to buy this and the Big Red One back when. This video was fun to watch though.
Fun fact about COD: Finest Hour. The score was made by Michael Giacchino, the guy that did the soundtrack to the first Medal Of Honor games, Secret Weapons Over Normandy, and went on to do the Sountrack for UP and many other animated productions!
Oh the irony for me is that The Finest Hour was going to be my first COD on the XBOX. Two different copies kept glitching the same spot. I took it back to the game store who blamed my XBOX. I wound up going to Target and discovering The Big Red One which will always be special to me.

Just now I found this game at my local thrift store so I decided to look it up and I thankfully came across this beautiful looking video you created!
Hopefully you enjoyed the video! Thanks for watching!
This game was kind of hard in the later missions for me as a kid.
this game made my cod history start, underrated game fosho!
This was my first Call of Duty Game i ever played. 7 year old me had some incredible memories playing this amazing game
YES YES YES now if you get around playing Medal of honor Rising sun and Medal of Honor frontline that would be a huge part of my childhood
It’s been nearly 20 years since I first played that game. And i can still recite the opening speech by the commissar by heart. Amazing game!
The first COD game I ever played. The missions as Nikolai the Tank captain were always my favorite
This was the first Call of Duty game that I remember playing first, either this or World At War: Final Fronts.
I loved this game as a kid. Replayed it dozens of times
This was the first Call of Duty I owned. I got it for Christmas in 2005 after my Granddad introduced me to the first Call of Duty game at his house
oh man, this is a call back, im so happy i got this guy posting on my feed.
Puskov.
Was my first ever game I played and reminds me of when I was younger! Such a good game
For me it was Big Red One, I remember playing that game to the end of the earth, and nobody else seemed to have remembered it haha.
Cod Finest Hour and CoD 2 Big Red One were some of my favorite childhood classics. Love seeing the games get love
When I was a kid, I was never able to finish the final act of securing the bridge. I always wondered what the ending would be like after that and this video gave me closure. Well done!
Glad I was able to give you that closure!
whos gonna tell him that u can heal your teammates
I like to horde them for myself lmao
@@kelvinonealgaming cant blame u
also if u heal them they stay alive a longer and plus they can try to deal with enemies other than u trying to kill them all
My first call of duty and still remember playing through the first mission constantly.
This game was great but the final mission was super difficult
You’re telling me! I got all the way to the end and then died so I had to do the whole thing over again
This was the first call of duty I played. Brings back memories
Loved the Soviet and British parts of the campaign, absolutely hated the US missions with an undying passion lol
@11:07 if you used your machine guns to kill those germans on top of the tank you would have saved the tank lol. They are tryna break in and you just merc'd all your dudes, other than that great video dude, used to love this game as a kid
Bro, yo COD BR1 vid was popular because it was a major nostalgia hit, ty for that!
First COD I played back on the original Xbox. I still remember the multiplayer.
It became the first COD i've ever played on my Life, back on the PS2 era
Loved this game when it came out. The only complaint I had was that the movement and walking speeds were too slow. A lot of these early shooter console games relied mostly on strafing to get the job done
Don't hate on the DP-28 lmao
finest hour was my first COD game on my cousins PS2, I moved to PC by the time COD2 came out but I'll always have fond memories of taking turns playing Finest Hour with my cousin on sleep overs
I was born in ‘93 (about to turn 30) and Finest Hour was my first introduction to the call of duty franchise. It was the first cod game I ever saw advertised on tv and it replaced Medal of Honor as the go to FPS at my summer camp
I remember getting this from GameStop when I was in 2nd grade….this was when GameCube had its own wall still….I’ll need to play this again one day
This game was the reason for my old steam username "Tillet" based off of the town you raid in the american tank mission when playing as the leader of the 761st black panthers
Back when, i could not afford a good PC to play of the COD titles like COD 1 and 2.
I have to buy this and the Big Red One back when.
This video was fun to watch though.
One of my favourite CoDs. I really enjoyed the cutscenes leading up to gameplay and learning the stories of our protagonist’s.
Amazing video man, now I'd love to see you do Road to Victory for the PSP, it was my childhood cod and I'd love to see you play it!
KELVIN: This is the dumbest gun I've ever seen.
Lewis gun: Allow me to introduce myself.
Chauchat: hello
Man its crazy to think that i haven't played this since the xbox 360 came out, this video was super nostalgic as this game was one of the first more mature games i ever played
The voice of the Sergeant you follow in the British campaign is the lead singer of ACDC
I don't remember the controls being that janky or bugs being so visible when I played as a kid
I absolutely loved the big red one 2. I could never get past the bunker mission in finest hour but it was amazing too!
