  • Tony Satterfield testified that his mother, Gloria Satterfield, died in early 2018 after falling at Murdaugh's Colleton County home.
Satterfield discussed the wrongful death lawsuit and the settlement that Murdaugh said he would obtain for the Satterfield family. He testified that he read about a settlement in his mother's death and contacted Murdaugh to find out what was going on. He says he never received money from Murdaugh.

Seems like a sweet gentle soul, which makes this more horrific, and the fact that the perpetrator was already rolling in dough even more horrific, and that Tony's mother was essentially a domestic servant of modest means at their beck and call, most horrific. Not to mention her disabled child as one of the beneficiaries of the settlement. It makes you wonder if he helped her die somehow. Or orchestrated the whole accident. I believe, though, this one can go to character and not just motive, that this was a person capable of directly victimizing people without blinking an eye, and people for whom he ought to have familial affection.

I agree with you. However, the lawyer was being a callus ass, and his words were explicitly chosen. He was trying to persuade the court, and everyone, that the "alleged" thieving bastard shouldn't have to pay back what he stole, and the son should be good because the son had more than recovered it elsewhere. He was also trying to express that the son would have no money to get if the mom had fallen down the steps/stairs on her own, but he saw his own moral failure and withdrew the question/statements. Nevertheless, Godly teaching says, when you catch a thief red-handed, he is required to pay back double. I see it as Alex being sued for being a thief, and the 6 mil was payment for that wretched and despicable act; now he also needs to pay back what he stole "allegedly." Only when you take money from the greedy will they care or be affected. That is somewhat justice for the sons, though all the money in the world won't ever bring his mom back nor quiet the pain and loss within him and his brother. This Alex seems like a terrible person who may have done more harm (to this family and others) than is noticed or known, and his lawyers seem like equally terrible people with their defense tactics.

@@dianealarcon8304 how was it earmarked for the family of the maid though if it was Alex insurance policy that he paid? The kids were not Alex employees so would not be covered for an insurance payment. If they had their own life insurance in the event of their mum dying then they would be entitled to the money and if Alex defrauded them of that money then he would have stolen their money but that is not what happened

    • @Nyrphame
      @Nyrphame Рік тому +5

@@SocratesoftheNorth it is a very elaborate scheme on AM’s part. At the advice of AM, the estate of the maid sued AM as the accident happened in the course of her work on AM’s property. At some point, there was a judgement in favour of the maid’s estate. As AM had liability insurance to protect him from such claims, he processed his own claim against the insurance company to cover the settlement amount which he owed. The insurance company paid up. That amount should have been awarded to the boys, but AM lied, claimed it had not been settled and kept the money. That’s the simplest thread through the events. He definitely pocketed money earmarked for them.

So he comes to the son, like a snake. Tells him- you boys are gonna need some money & I can help you with that now that your mother has passed you can sue, & this will help with your finances. Who does this?
Alex will now be making a cut in the lawsuit, but no, Alex doesn't just want the 10-20% referral fee he got to pass the case to his friend- he desires the whole pot of cash.
Glad to hear this poor family heard the truth from news & goes to question Alex what happened to the money.

But AM greed and narcissism wouldn't allow himself to part with one penny of the insurance payout. And he got caught. It may have caused a major rift in the marriage if Maggie was in on the $ theft. Like "you idiot, if you had just paid those boys like you said you were going to, you wouldn't have been caught and now, with the boys settlement against you for $6 million AND the prosecution case, and wrongful death lawsuit that will follow against our son Paul, we are going to end up penniless. He let the boy think he was going to be his lawyer so that he could manipulate the initial paperwork so that he would have access to the money. After he manipulated the paperwork he tells the boy that he was going to get a friend to take case to cover his ass. I believed he murdered the woman. He needed money and knew how he could get it without anyone linking him to the accident. Like everything else that has occurred in this case. It took some planning to pull it together. There are too many things that happened back to back that would bring in some money for him.

What a web of twisted evil on behalf of Murdaugh's team. For Murdaugh to promise these boys help after the funeral of their Mother was likely to ease Murdaugh's conscience. This young man's faith in Murdaugh's statement to help him and his brother was unsolicited...so, was Murdaugh trying to avoid a law suit for their mother's death? Poor kid, having to be involved in this mess...my heart goes out to this young man.

Based on how the policy was written, Alex knew exactly the scenario he would tell the family, police and insurance company in Oder to ultimately get the most amount of money based on how the policy was written.
I never understood why insurance companies pay the home owner directly instead of paying directly to the injured party or in this case the executor of the mothers estate which obviously has a bank account for distribution of funds to companies, individuals etc. which the mother owed at time of death.
The practice of insurance companies on home owner’s insurance should pay directly to the injured party ( like auto insurance) vs. the owner of insurance policy.
This change would ensure fraud like this would not occur. In addition the homeowner would receive any funds based on any damages that incurred was a direct result of the accident to the home etc. that was covered by the policy.
Doesn’t make any sense why the process is like this.

@@peggyross1807 Well, the ex deputy in me is suspicious. Are there videos of the maid falling OR just Alex's word for it?
Did Maggie &/or Paul know how it happened to the maid?
Just not adding up to me. Alex rips off his associates?, his maid's sons' $ (which I lost everythind I owned, left homeless, disabled, etc., & 'my' attorneys absorbed $$ due me as I had sustained brain damages, my teeth slammed & shattered, I couldn't think straight...my brain has since healed but different, I was not @ fault with witnesses, yada etc..), claims threats from teen/young woman killed issues?, Alex had been doing drugs, it's not all lining up with what he's claimed with phone info?, & etc., etc., etc.?
Darn, I'd love to have investigated this 1st hand....done lots more searching, asking, yada & blah, etc..

This was painful to watch this man have to relive this horrendous situation. An innocent person used as a ploy to fatten Alex’s pockets from his mothers death! Absolutely disgusting. Hearing the courtroom giggling while he sits up there was so disrespectful to him and his family. The judge should have quieted that courtroom immediately. He was lied to and had to go and get an honest attorney to collect what should have already been received after finding out through media!?!! Abhorrent! I have never seen such dark and evil behavior to subject an innocent family through. Shame on Alex Murdaugh and the attorneys that assisted and benefited. Shame!
