Two quick things 1) Thanks for putting this together (and since i live in Hawaii - mahalo back at ya) and 2) What the hell is wrong wrong with people who seem to sign on only to either leave negative comments or thumbs down. I mean damn, if you don't like it click off and post something better.
Ive been meaning to learn this song for ages and was able to do it in a night thanks to your lesson. So thank you!!
You're a good teacher. The three camera angles very informative. I'll try this bit by bit. One of my favorite songs.
Thank you Julie for a great lesson and a fabulous voice. One of the best songs ever written IMHO :-)
Awesome - awesome lesson! And beautiful arrangement - thank you!
Thank you so much. This is such a nice arrangement. You gave me an idea of when to accompany myself on the guitar as I sang.
You're a LIFE SAVER. People, do you realize how helpful this is!!! To have a rock solid fantastic translation of this song for guitar? THANK YOU!!
"I Can't Make You Love Me" is a song written by Mike Reid and Allen Shamblin and recorded by American singer Bonnie Raitt for her eleventh studio album Luck of the Draw (1991).
Good job! Makes a tricky song practical.
absolutely beautiful arrangement... thank you!
This song can be played so very complicated, or, like your arrangement. I think yours works very well for most. It's your real guitar freaks who are going to be looking for a lot of changes, & especially 'passing' chords in this song. And there are many. Still, I prefer your take & approach to doing this. Thank you.
Have always loved this tune and now you have taught me how to play it...thanks very much ! cheers Rich
Thank you so much. I love this song. Great job!
I have been playing D over F sharp using my thumb on the E string for about 55 years, nice to see it done properly, doubt I can change now!!!
Thank you for doing this and your voice sound nice and beautiful
great tutorial. thanks a lot. you are a perfect teacher!

Thank you so much :)) Cheers from France :))
Muy bueno, gracias!!
Thanks for that, you taught good.
Beautiful
beautiful
brilliant thanks!
Thank you for this tutorial! :-)
I just wanted to say I love the way that you play that song you break it down like the piano version but I was wondering if you could put on here the courts that you're playing so that I can remember them a little clearly
Great playing!! You are amazing! Meow -))
awesome tutorial...
how good this lesson is ,does not sink in until you try it
Great job, not an easy request to say the least!
drives me crazy when guitar teachers don't start the video by playing through what they're about to teach. I need to know what I'm getting myself into. + this arrangement is so basic that, unless you're an absolute beginner, you'd be able to figure it out by just watching and listening to a performance.
I completely agree, it's so annoying.
Check you out Mr Hendrix 😂
this is herd
Alan Verga there is a lot of songs that have the same title
Hey, Julie. Nice arrangement of a fantastic ballad. I've been practicing on this song for a while on Ultimate Guitar which has several different chord shapes that differ from yours. Also, this great song was so well done by Bonnie Raitt, but the writing credits need to be given where credit is due. This song was written by Nashville songwriting duo, Mike Reid and Allen Shamblin, taking 6 months for it's final perfection. It's good to know that songwriting doesn't just happen within a matter of hours for those of us who attempt to write music as well as perform our own music. Who wouldn't want to pen an instant classic ballad like this?
good job, nice voicing
thank you
Thanks!
thanks you very much
damn, you are amazing..
This is great thank you!! and you are pretty as well!! 😀
Your my first choice to 'save' when I want to learn it again.
nice
you made me love you Julie ... so cute and so talented ... thank you so much
Hi Julie,
Great arrangement and nicely done video. I was just curious why you play that opening e note (g with capo) on the 5th fret above the capo on the second string instead of just playing it open on the first. Either way works, it's a little easier using the open but thank you so much for a great tutorial!
+James Anderson I know you wanted Julie's answer, not mine, but I often do that for two reasons: Keeping a finger on that fret is a helpful reference when switching between G and D chords, and the chord sounds richer (to me) with the 5th (D) than with the 3rd (B).
quick question what tune is this song in so I can have the right melody
i love you
hi just want to know if you can play don't make me go b
MR. Johnny Cash thank you
Okay, I can't sing this one without CRYING! And I'm a MAN! (or at least I've thought so my whole life!)
😂😂😂😂
Men can cry
Me either. I had no idea it would make me feel like that. (crying right now)
I’ve played several funerals, including my parents and sisters, without crying. But just hearing this song always opens the flood gates.
Hahahaha Great comment! With the exact amount of sadness and humor... Regards!
Is there somewhere I can get the tab for this song? I think it’s lovely but I’m having trouble following the whole song.
I'm trying to play Matter of the heart (Bonnie Raitt) on the guitar. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!! I can normally figure her songs out but not this time. I sure would appreciate some help. Thanks Dave.
Johathan Mackey... Best comment ever!
thanks btw =)
Do you have a cord chart of this.
can you do clean getaway by maria taylor
Pedantic Sod...yes, but helpful when soloing on it, thanks:)
How do you request a song?
I know the song is called " I can't make you love me" but you did with this song..thx.😅
E flat is a great key for guitar if you know what you're doing!
Music Islife She doesn’t!
on guitar
This is one of my favorite songs too! But funny fact... my mom hates it!
Actually it’s in G when capoed on 3. C is the first chord
After teaching please sing entire song. let us hear some of your creative expression. Regards and well done
shka from the mainland great job, do you have a sister
??
Going well, but I'm exhausted. Some quick semi familiar chord changes. But it sounds great.
Standar tune :)
the chord at 2:16 ...cant handle that...my pinkie isnt enough strechable to do that... :( practised it for days...no chance :( but great tut!
i want to learn tanks version ........
I'm confused as to how you're forming your G chord with your ring finger on top?
+Trevor Leaderbrand It's a little more difficult that way initially, but it allows you to make a G7 with the same hand shape (by lifting the pinky from the E string and adding the first finger).
E Flat is not a friendly guitar key ... ??? I'm missing something, so are Guns N Roses, they seemed to get by ... ;-)
Good lord...
I don't see how this key is E flat. Can anyone explains please. If all the notes are transposed shouldnt capoing third fret become B flat key?
You need an Eb Major as the opening chord but this is in G minor.
Thx
This song is actually in Key of B flat. If you r going to play the lead notes you will use all the notes of Bb major scale except I think Eb
But there are lots bass notes of Eb and Bb and G and D. I think the tutorial here have caught the essence of the song very nicely.
Yes I realise that but it was just the way she decided to explain it. This is VERY basic and I wouldn't ever suggest that anybody perform this in public. This video is more to understand the chord structure and not about making it sound pleasing. You'll have to do that part on your own.
Honestly I believe the song is in G not C. The verse just starts in the 4
Ahhh...this is awesome but i cant do it. Wahhh
Nice, but really fast on naming the strings.
This would be so much more helpful with tabs. But nice arrangement.
+CrazySexyrealCool Yeah, that's what I'm looking for after hearing Bon Iver's cover
Agreed. Most guitar tutorials could be much clearer and SHORTER with tabs as a graphic over the video. "Second finger, third fret, fourth measure, 6th beat, then switch your third finger to the fourth string, first fret for the 7th beat . . ." A picture is literally worth many words.
Guys there is literally a close up of her fingers on the chords. This is easier than tabs as it shows which fingerings to use for the piano chord voicings. Just pause the video and rewind if you miss something. Use your ears and don't rely so heavily on tabs and you'll thank yourself later
@@larrymorgan6778 Yes. I watch, then I print out a blank tab sheet, note the fingerings and name the positions, add the key lyrics to the change. I then enter what I learned on a lyric sheet with the chord names above the lyric changes. It takes work, But I've done this for many songs I've learned from UA-cam.
5:50 epic desafination
c hours is qeong
She's pretty
Jack Whack, wow you must really be good.
All the parts in the opening where you need to use the pinky finger, just play the next string up, open. It's so much easier and sounds much prettier. Oh and without the pick. The strumming ruins this!
Hayley Laura actually the same sound
actually it gives it a really nice mood if you finger pick it this way. I wouldn't say it's easier or better, but it sounds great to my ear - thanks for pointing it out Hayley. It sounds even more pro to me if I finger pick it like this. But I wouldn't have gotten this far without this wonderful tutorial - thanks Mahalo!
Nice lesson on a really lovely song! But God, Almighty! You might have scared me off with all those chord changes. Damn piano players! I'll be back someday to give it a shot.
Pretty nails
Bon Iver is the name of his band you flog his name is Justin Vernon
There's always that one girl that pops up in your head paying this init
It may be more helpful to folks like me if you named the real chords since I don't have a capo and want to learn a way to play it on a standard tuned guitar with no capo. It is confusing when I listen and you name the chords you're playing but they are not the actual chords. I understand you have the capo and are naming the chord forms you are playing, however naming the "wrong" chords while I listen to this lesson is throwing me off.
You Missed ONE chord pretty bad. But it's .........Not a bog deal. Nice voice
Would be so much easier if you played the entire song through once and then broke it down. Thanks for posting.
On the chord changes…listen to obi wan…”trust the force”
