Hello super new here, I was wondering if this would be applicable for someone who has a Puberphonia of sort, especially if its a Male but sounds like a girl type of voice, he can do some low Male parts like it manages to somewhat replicate when singing the OG "Beyond the Sea" Bobby Dylan but yeah...
This is why I love singing men’s songs. There’s no purposeful or subconscious want to try and sound like them. I generally feel like I just sing like me no matter what, no matter the genre.
I’m by no means a great singer (I just do it for fun in the car) but I’ve also found I’m way more successful at singing men’s songs! I just assumed it was because I have a naturally deeper voice and not the most fantastic range, so I don’t have to (usually) worry about hitting high notes when it’s a song written for men.
So many people are teased into silence from childhood if they even try to sing, whether they're any good or not. It's lovely to see such advice as this, and so many encouraging comments.
I fall in that category. I was made to feel as though I can't sing, when really, I was just very shy and suffered from anxiety. I'm pushing back now against that which has been sitting in my head for so long. 😊
You can tell this lady perfectly combines serious knowledge about the subject and tremendous charisma. Her energy is amazing. Your voice timbre is awesome as well.
I've been teaching voice for 50 years; this is the first time I've found a voice instruction video on line that makes sense and is very unlikely to cause any harm to a person's voice. Brava!
I agree. I was a professional singer for about 30 years, and this approach is the first one that I see as making sense. I want to do some singing again, and my voice needs exercise. This will provide it.
"Copying someone else's voice is stressful." Not for me. It's easy for me. What has been hard, is actually finding my own voice and unique style. Thanks for doing this video.
I'm the most non-singing person on the planet and this was fascinating!!!😍 You make me want to learn to sing even if the best I can do is sound like a banshee with a hangover.
Yes! You can tell she's passionate about what she does... That will make her FARRRR more effective than others. And it's her intensity that makes you wanna keep watching cause it gets you pumped up... You can sound like dog poop but she makes you feel like, "Hell yeah, I can do this!" Lol. I wish SOOOO badly I had her advice about copying as a kid. I went to a singing lessons summer camp thing and I tried to sing an Alicia Keys song... And was copying for sure. It sounded terrible... I don't have an Alicia Keys voice... I sound more like Lauren Daigle. But had I just used my own voice and chose a song better suited to my voice maybe I wouldn't have continued with more lessons. But now my daughter has an amazing voice and is musically inclined. She just turned 6 but I know if it's something she's really passionate about she can go far... That is with information and techniques that are actually useful. So I will definitely be watching more as she gets older to help her achieve what I wish I could have. Thank you for sharing your wisdom with the world. 💕
Dear Victoria.. I practiced your siren and uh oh and ee and other exercises & techniques yesterday. Today, when I started singing a few minutes ago with the same song I always sing. I was suprised that I was able to raise the notes naturally. I think it is the siren and the breathing support that helps me reaching the notes that I wanted to reach with ease.. I tried other voice tips from other you tubers but yours was the best. I was able to do that after watching it yesterday..You are born genius and an excellent teacher that you're able to come up with this great program. I know our native fellows will watch this and they can learn from you! 😍😍😍
She makes it easy to just pick up basic skills and move forward on your own. I can only imagine how effective she would be in person, fine-tuning and correcting the basic techniques and introducing more advanced as needed.
I tried these exercises in this video.. I must point out that I'm a woman.. I was in chorus as a kid.. I never new my voice could be so.. buttery! So smooth. I've always had a deeper voice as a woman. And I absolutely LOVE singing. But I never knew how to control it. I couldn't "find my voice" so I never pursued music or singing. I am absolutely going to binge watch your videos. I got a glimpse of my voices potential. I'm so shocked. I had no idea I could sing lol thank you!!
+nebisaur165 Once those who do find their voices also learn how to find their ranges too. I took a vocal class once and I def. could have tried harder & done better in the class b/c I do love to sing. But the exercises in this video definitely helped me. I learned in that class that I'm an Alto voice and if I had put more effort (and had less sore throats-got sore throats due to my own emotions at times)...I easily could have been Soprano. Also, for me personally if I want and I don't want to say I can go as deep as Baritone level, but my singing voice can go pretty dang deep to the point that I surprise myself with it and I'm like "there's no way my voice can go this low." I'm a girl btw & it's generally rarer for girls to have a baritone range level within their own singing voice alone. But I have caught myself going nasaly before & I'm trying my best *not* to do that at all.
I sang in my youth Aaron Neville's version of "Cry Me A River" completely out of my head with high force and pressure and I thought it has to be this way - now I learn that Prince and Michael Jackson had a singing teacher (the same one) and how to lead to higher pitches like Minnie Riperton (Lovin' You + Inside My Love) with a straw, silent and whistle practice - it is like learning the ABC, but now I am old (61) - my voice can do more variations AND less with raw power - it is like in dancing: To survive, you have to evolve & get smarter.
I'm very bad at English, but because you speak so clearly and don't use any uncommon words, I understand every sentence perfectly with my school English. Thank you very much for your valuable advice. You encourage me to train my voice more and to leave out the vocoder, including autotune. Greetings from Wolfsburg Michael (I used google to translate my comment from German to English uhm 😅)
@@fearlessart418 More than a bit! But that's no problem, because she speaks so clearly. There's no reason why any regional accent should obscure clarity if one has the clarity of diction that Victoria has. She puts a lot of energy and focus into each consonant and vowel. Brilliant!😀
I'm a 57-year-old, classically-trained mezzo. I sang high soprano in a small vocal jazz ensemble in high school and, over the course of a few years, moved over to classical and sacred repertoire. It was easy and I loved it. I sang that way for 25 years and then married a wonderful man who was a singer-songwriter and guitarist. Singing with him was physically stressful because he always placed my songs low in my chest voice. It was uncomfortable. Now, ten years later, I've lost all of my vocal technique. I never developed one for singing his songs (which he called "americana rock") and have lost my old technique. My throat aches when I sing and my voice quickly gets fatigued. Singing well is one of the most thrilling, exhilarating things I've ever experienced. I loved it. I loved being a soloist; a good musician; able to sight read almost anything; and able to step into a choir and sing whatever the director needed, from first tenor to first soprano. I loved it. But that's all gone and I don't know how to get it back. None of my teachers ever gave me information that's useful now. I'm going to follow your videos and see how it goes. So far, so good. And thank you in advance.
Hi, Sherry! Oh, I can feel your desire to sing! Don't worry - it is certainly possible to retrain! Start back in the part of your voice that is easiest and take your time. Love this video! It's almost like having a wise friend sitting across from you, grabbing your hand, and saying "no, dear, this is how you do it." Victoria is definitely coming from a compassionate space. So helpful!
I majored in vocal performance at a University on a full scholarship in 2010. I was jaded and thought I couldn't make money in music, so I joined the military. In 10 minutes, you have brought slightly back what took a dozen years to take away. Thank you.
Same!! I was a performing arts major in 1996-2000 but got discouraged and joined the military. Now I"m out and wanting to dive back into singing and acting. Best of wishes to you, my friend!!
Thank you for this video. I am a disabled veteran and I love to sing. People used to say I sounded good, but now I have facial scars from my time in service. Other instructors wanted me to do exercises I cannot do since I have no upper left lip. Yet your exercises were not affected by this. It gives me something to work on/with. I might never sound good again, but at least I don't have to sound bad. :))
Thank you for your service, Sir. My mom and grandpa were very musically talented, but that gene skipped me. Completely. It's ok, I got my dad's talents. But I did inherit my mom's love of singing (to my wife's chagrin 😜). But this always reminds me of my Dad's joke... The Bible says to make a Joyful Noise - and son, you make a lot of noise!
These exercises confirm to me I have a voice, which was stolen thru childhood trauma. I had actually discovered it about 35 years ago but I never got training. I am going to work from your videos, Victoria. Thank you so much. I love to sing. I have always known there is music in me and now I know my voice is the instrument I should have learned. BTW, even tho I struggle, because of lack of technique, I have virtually perfect pitch. I hear all the nuances, I just can't reproduce them consistently with my voice but I know that can be learned.
I've been singing for weeks now, but always get hoarse after singing, even if it's a soft song. I really notice the change and freedom my voice has because of these exercises. Thank you!
Yes, exactly. I'm a sound engineer, I have heard so many coverband vocalists try to copy the unique sound of each song they cover. They have no stamina and want more and more monitor and FX. But those who project their own sound, they're easypeasy to mix.
After twenty-eight years, I used this just to learn how to speak out loud, let alone sing. Results I never imagined, overnight! The only issue is I'm so unfamiliar with my own voice, I can definitely see this taking at least a year to get the hang of. I'm no singer, but after following these techniques, I even managed to yell, for the first time! Thank you for posting this, seriously.
@@TheSevonne i don't know if it's the same for them but i know some people get stuck using monotone because of things like anxiety or being uncomfy with talking. some people use a fake voice without even realising
Just tried these in my living room myself and had to fight through that thought of "what if someone hears me" and the feeling "embarrassed/ashamed" But after the exercises I tried applying them and singing something "Tearing Up My Heart" which normally I strain to sing because their voices are so high and I am always trying to immitate them instead of singing it with my voice. It was far less difficult to sing that way but I cant exactly hit the same notes I dont think. I don't have any music or singing education just practice without instruction. Thanks for spending your time to make your videos and channel.
This lady knows her craft. I'd paid $1000s in voice coaching thirty some years ago for lessons similar to what she taught here. BTW, practice is the key!!! Money alone can't buy you voice. You have to pay and keep working on it.
This feels life changing- I have been practicing these tips for the last couple hours, and recording it to listen, and I don't think I've ever not hated hearing myself sing before now. I didn't become a GOOD singer in 2 hours necessarily, but the difference in just how much more breath I feel like I have is astounding I feel uncharacteristically optimistic about how much better I could sound with more time
Saw this on my recommended. I think the most important thing that I saw in the video is the confidence to sing like you are in a crowd even when training by yourself. You always look so confident and it delivers well
This seems to be the equivalent of stumbling across a gold mine. Thank you SO SO much! I don't have the money to afford a teacher.... and to have such a seasoned and quality expert who still has her passion for singing to be teaching the fundamentals for free.... Thank God for generous hearts like yours!
This is new advice to me. The best I’ve heard in years. Lately I’ve been sticking to my own voice. It feels like starting over but at least I’m starting over on my own path and not someone else’s.
Oh my goodness, that takes me back! I did these exercises when I did singing lessons 30 years ago! Sadly I never had the confidence, musical, ear, time or resources to continue. But I still love to sing. Thank you!
We freed up her throat..... Got me rollin. I'm here for the teaching still first time here. I need to get my voice right before I start singing my music I wrote.
Right away, I noticed a difference. I made all the mistakes you talked about, and when I applied your 4 steps, especially the first step, I knew I had forgotten to be myself first of all. Now I can go forward with confidence, all from being reminded to relax, find my voice and become confident and validated! Thank you so much! for being the Victorious You!
I’m an aspiring singer and this video helped me set scheduled vocal excersices. I love how you’re so personable and encouraging in the most real ways. Love it!
As a Taiwanese🇹🇼, I feel that your pronouncement is very clear. It gives me some confidence in my English listening ability, maybe it's not as poor as I think😂. Also, thank you for your useful singing advice.
I used to be in choir in high school, I hadn't really sung in over 5 years, and anytime I did it felt strained. After watching this video, I feel like I got my voice back! I'm definitely gonna check your other stuff out! 😭💕
just found this lady, it's so nice to hear the things i've been trying to teach people for years articulated so well. I can't wait to show this video to certain people and see if they can understand these concepts in new light. that line about "singing for people behind you" really intuitively makes you understand how to open up your throat.
When I was growing up Mormon, we had vocal coaches like this help us out. I remember when one I went to told my parents I had a voice for folk and rock music. They were not thrilled but she was right. A tip I was given to stop the nasal sound was to lightly plug your nose while practicing. The air then has to come out your mouth. You start to recognize when you are messing up even with your nose unplugged.
As a professionally trained vocalist and performer/studio singer, I struggled with finding my own voice. No teacher ever covered this. I've been hired to sing like Brittany and others, because I was good at emulating their sounds. I hesitated to record originals, as I wasn't happy or comfortable with what I thought was my sing-songy, indistinctive sound. Thank for this. I will be practicing these to enhance my own sound, whatever it is.
Victoria, this is just what I needed! I was a voice student 20 years ago and miss it so much. My voice teacher has since passed on and this video has elements of all the vocal faculty who guided shy little me back then. One of my fellow singers from that time (aka my ex-husband) sent this to me, and I'm thankful he did. I remember these exercises, but you stepped it up and helped me make the connection of why I was taught to do them. Back then, to me they were just exercises for a grade. I've subscribed to your channel and will get my digital Kawai out of storage. Thank you.
I like how you are breaking down the different anatomical locations of vocal elements. I think that's an aspect of singing that eludes beginners because most of us won't have background in anatomy or physiology but obviously it's very important because we are using a complex body structure to create a complex sound!
I love all of these vocal exercises!!!!! I’m gonna use these a lot. I think I’m finding my own voice. I’ve been teaching myself how to sing since I was 9 years old. Thank you Victoria!
I like your lively, no BS way of presentation and guidance! The frontal buzz and resonance is an important technique we use in throat singing, the drone created helps us to provide structure to the melodies we are singing!
Thank you for the tips. I'm not trying to be a singer or any one, but occasional karaok for fun. I found that most of the time my throat is squeezing. Now that i'm practicing to relax my throat and see it's a big improvement. Thank you!
I absolutely LOVE your detailed intros to your videos. As a singer of 40 years...in my 20's I just wanted to 'cut to the chase' - tell me how to sing better IMMEDIATELY. This is why I stayed 'average' for so long. Not until I completely understood how to play my instrument, did I truly open up and gain access to my total range. You don't learn piano overnight. The voice is an instrument that needs to be equally understood. Thank you for all the free stuff you give away. ❤❤
Your teaching ability is so impressive! I'm not a Native in your tongue, and I was shocked at how I could get from your lesson! Thank you for you enthusiasm and energy
I don't even sing outside of when I want to randomly bring up an iconic song, but this for some reason came up in my feed so I had it play because why not at 7am. This is genuinely great advice for people trying to get into actually singing, and it shows with how amazing you've trained your own voice without even having to look at who you've trained. Amazing video, love the segments for organization and sick piano. Edit: Just noticed this video is a year old because UA-cam just does that to my feed constantly, glad it came up.
This improved my range tremendously. I couldn't figure out while sometimes I could sing high notes but not at other times. I noticed it was with certain songs. This helped me do it with all songs.
I was in your class in Walnut Creek about 20yrs ago. Adult Education. I use “Resistance Breathing” + the Siren OFTEN. THANK YOU! My daughter is BIG into singing. It was FUN to show her your video. She is in School Choir + Orchestra Iowa Vocal Program. 💜🌈✨🌺🙏🏼🌺✨🌈💜
I ran across this and was really inspired. I was one of those people who sang really well as a kid and lost all my control at puberty to the point where I stopped singing cause no one wanted to hear me do the work to find my control again. I'm thirty-one now, and I'm working on getting my voice back. Thanks so much for this vid, it led me to your channel and it's been really helpful.
I'm happy to have found you here on UA-cam! I used to always try to copy but none of it was quite right. It's been helpful learning originals from my band and not having someone to compare myself to, so I am trying to just have good support and technique (support is really failing after covid 😬). Your videos have been so helpful, already my bandmates are noticing and excited for this new ring and slightly more relaxed and open sound, even though we are going for more powerful sounds (Metal). I wish you taught vocal distortion, I need someone to teach me how to growl and scream... I grew up learning classical, so belting is taking work, i have no gruff vocals at all. Not so fun in my current genre to not have those. Anyway, all the love Victoria!!
The true voice thing rings true in rap/hip hop vocals as well. Most people start off trying to sound deeper than they naturally are. Sounds better when you find your own voice.
I'm looking forward to giving this video my full attention. I can "copy" so many voices, and do many songs, and it's not too stressful because I pick my own songs with my good ear, but lately I've been wondering about my own voice, especially after I found myself singing a female vocalist's song from the 1960s and I'm male. This lady seems like the actual real deal.
One in a million you Victoria! We thank your parents in raising a child like you have become right now, a lighting guide and wisdom in the aspect of human soul, and we congratulate you for deciding in sharing your God's given talent and skill. May God Almighty, continue to bless and guide you in your next plan in life, be it in other aspect in life also, amen!
I don't consider myself a singer at all but I'm a music student and have always enjoyed singing along to my favorite songs in the car, but I don't really like my singing voice. This video helped me realize I can have even more fun by engaging in singing the same way I do with the piano and other instruments I play. Thanks!!
Oh my goodness, these exercises are so fun. Unfortunately, I have vocal chord paralysis, so some things are infinitely harder on me to figure out, such as vibrato, but it's super fun to follow along to this. Thanks so much for posting!
A lot of us made the mistake of not talking or singing with our unique voice! 🙏 Thank You So Much Teacher Victoria for this illuminating tutorial of finding our true own voice! 🌷🌿🌍💜🕊
Oh how I remember these exercises. My vocal coach May Carol had me constantly improving my open throat and working my diaphragm to improve my projection and breathing. Though my path took a different route from music, the lessons still remained. During my career, I had to do numerous public speaking events. For the majority of these, I would find a quiet place and go through these exercises to warm up my voice and get me in the "zone" more or less. There were times I did not even need a mic. Thank you...this was a bit fun.
I'm so drawn in to this.....like 3 minutes in!! Needless to say..I "liked" and "subscribed" almost immediately... There is something about you.....I'm so glad to have found u. You're fantastic ♡
OMG, just stumbled across this video. You are such an original, I instantly fell in love with your authenticity and your voice and every syllable you said. You have such an iconic energy, thank you for being on youtube!
Hi, Victoria 😊 I used to copy both Celine Dion and Enya just for fun, but not any more. Now I use my own unique low voice and I love it. Love your vocal exercises ❤👍👏
Victoria, thank you so much for inspiring individuality! I get so tired of hearing everyone trying to "be Whitney Houston" when they sing the National Anthem. For the past thirty years now, I always grit my teeth and get ready for the worst when some singer gets to "O'er the la-and of the free-EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" Oh how I hate that!!! I wish she had never done it. Again, bless you for inspiring individuality and coaching people to find their own voices!!!
Omg just three exercises in and I’m feeling so much better with singing. Haven’t sung for so long and have been imitating my favorite singers for long but feeling more and more unconfident in myself. These exercises simply give me back the joy, ease, comfort, and beauty of singing again, so thank you so much.
Hi all! I am glad UA-cam recommended this to me! I had been struggling with the somewhat disturbing experience to never know what my true voice is. I noticed this first when I was „supposed to“ sing some song in church. I never knew in which octave I should sing - and HOW I sang it always felt wrong. I then took some classes on overtone singing and went to events, where we would produce tones including overtones. We would do some initial practices together, and then conclude by a time where everyone was just „randomly“ singing tones and frequencies however they wished. Out of a patchwork of chaos, an amazing multi-faceted harmony would emerge. An amazing experience - made possible by allowing oneself to DO WHATEVER - giving no regard to anyone’s expectations! Later, I learned subharmonic singing from a particularly helpful UA-cam video. I would often sing under the shower, just randomly doing as I please, trying out different pastures within my body, listening to my voice, working on „liberating“ „dead frequency areas“. Great fun. Also fun: Resonance singing. Every room has their own resonance. When you hit that particular frequency, the whole room can be made to vibrate. Then, the sound seems to come from everywhere. Works best in rooms with hard surfaces (because of the reflection). I do not like singing songs so far, though. To me it seems as if songs put me in a prison of a particular kind. Maybe I will some day find some song I can vibe with. So far, hasn’t happened often. But even singing what is NOT a song that already exists can be SO MUCH FUN!!! 🤩 P.S.: Another thing I believe I found out is that when I work on singing particularly high tones, it subsequently is easier to sing very low tones. And vice versa.
This is what I really need right now. I'm very fortunate to have a wide vocal range and adaptive vocal tonality and texture "I always copy the singing technique of the singer of a specific song to match the mood, execution and reflection. But this strength also meant that I never knew my original singing voice. Thus why, I'm really glad that I found this video. Thank You Very Much
I’m admittedly someone with a really secure classical technique, but your theory, suggestions of physical sensation and exercises are completely bang on. I just did them in bed on post-cold symptoms and they felt amazing.
Wow, I love this video! As I did the exercises my habit of often getting too uptight and perfectionist as a singer just slipped away and I definitely got into the joy of singing! I can't wait to explore more of Victoria's Victorious Vocal Tips. Thank you so much, Victoria!
Soooo glad I found you! I was actually trained to sing at a Music conservatory years ago and could as you say, “sing anything “. That was years ago and many classroom lectures ago. Now, I would like to “find” my voice once again. I do some singing seasonally but would like to take a greater part. For this, I need to find what voice I have now. Once, I was a coloratura soprano and can still sing in that range. My overall range was several Octaves… I just loved singing and music! Also, I studied Concert Piano for 5 years… I preferred Vocal performances and chose that path. I am now very glad to find you! I have a granddaughter who loves to sing also and needs instruction. She first performed on a stage at 3 years old. In a few years, she will be singing Handel’s MESSIAH with her mother and I. We have to train her voice a bit and teach her the score. She is a little sponge and learns fast! I will talk about your training with her and she if she is ready. She has already expressed the desire to learn, but the timing must be correct. Currently, she is in ballet and hip hop dance instruction! Thank You!
Thanks so much for your lessons, Victoria! I have a dynamic range, and I'm able to copy Steve Perry, Klaus Mein and many other popular rock artists, but I feel most comfortable with my natural tone even though I may not sound much like my favorite artists. We should always enjoy our natural tone most of all for sure. Thank you!
So I tried your voice techniques, and I LOVED them and I have improved my voice SO much and I can finally sing great! I loved the Ya Ya Ya Ya Ya part I think that it has improved my voice! Thank you so much these are so helpful!
Thank you so much for creating this! It is such a mental hurdle to accept that we could never be our vocal idol, BUT nobody could ever be us, either. Definitely something worth celebrating.
I've always called myself The Imposter! I have been singing for almost 50 years, but I am a copycat. I listen then I copy. With your video I'm going to practice and hopefully find my own voice! 🎶
I was literally just sitting here feeling like I can't sing anymore and hating my voice and feeling so bad that I might have messed up my calling. After this I already feel empowered again to work on my voice for the first time in years and pursue music again❤️
I started chorus in fifth grade, and have been singing ever since and I'm 27 years old now. Myself and others included consider me a talented singer, but after your video here I now have a whole new additional level of 'Je ne sais quoi' in my singing voice and i love it! Thank you so much
I love your energy. I literally just woke up and I didnt want to try your exercise yet but I found myself doing them anyway bc I couldnt resist. I also have an important singer I look up to and as you said, trying to sing like him makes me feel drained and frustrated when I cant sound like him. I really want to find my own voice
More than this worthy lesson I appreciate your powerful and wise message. I always was shy to sing, I never did it. Thanks this lessons I realize that it could be quite simple and it is worth to dare.
You are so animated and so interesting to watch and learn from. Very easy to engage with and learn from! Thank you so much! I have been a church vocalist most of my life, and still I am learning so much I did not know before !
I know exactly what you’re referring to & yes, I feel invigorated after the exercises. Last time I sang at a church service, I was shaking with energy after the second piece as it was tough for me. My heart rate was high and my breathing felt exerted. Took me a few minutes to calm down. My husband said it was the best he ever heard me, but I never had that feeling happen to me. Not sure why that was but it was interesting! But yes your voice is what needs to come through, period
Thanks for this video! A lot of times over the years it's been hard to get into singers, or even being comfortable with singing myself in certain ways because it all sounds the same. Who really wants that? The one trend I ever notice for famous singers vs the ones that all sound the same but don't get there is the fact that they are so unique. Anytime you hear it you think of that person. I don't mind grasping another's sound to garner style and technique. However, it's an absolute game changer when you find your own voice. Certain artists like Cobain are hard, nearly impossible to emulate. You'll most likely never get another one, but even if it's close it's still not him. He's gone, and won't be coming back sadly.. and the timing of being able to do what you can when you have it is imperative to your own creative endeavor of finding yourself. Personally, I made a point to not focus too much on any one specific band. I'd come across something that is inspiring, and leave it at that to help fuel my own creativity into the mix. I get in trouble with a lot of people on karaoke night because I don't know x artist and/or x song, but I don't care. I appreciate and respect them all the same, but I'm not required to obsessively know and copy everything about that individual/band. It takes so much away from it, and I think at times the invasiveness is in it's own way disrespectful to the artist. Like singing like Dolores from The Cranberries. I'll add the unique flairs that makes her music so distinguishable because I know very little or no one will. However, when it comes to my actual sound it's my own because I'm not her, and that's just fine. I have the memory of what she inspired in me, and I'd like to keep her alive in my own sense while honoring her efforts. That to me means much more on a personal level than simply copying and knowing everything about her creative works, but not considering her as a human being who also had good and bad times in life when she had her own prowess to count on when it came down to it. You eventually become a robot repeating back what you heard, and that kills a person's raisin detre when it comes to music. Yeah, it's great to hear Celine Dion without paying what it costs to actually see her, but then you embody anothers identity that is not your own, and therefore created an impossible standard to adhere to. Don't be the next x factor. Be the next you cause no one else would ever be able to duplicate that.
Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. I was a child and teen soloist that got my solos rather easily, so I don't expect credit for anything that was so easy for me, it was the only thing I could do well, naturally. That's not a brag. It's the opposite. Because it came so easily for me, I became very lazy with it, not bothering to improve anything or strive for being better. I became complacent and comfortable with just existing in music. Today, as an adult, I wish I had pushed myself to get better and better for my own feeling of self-worth and respect. However, if I had strived to make that my goal - I would never attempt to sound like other singers. I see and hear others attempting to sing like their favorite artists and that is what ends up biting them in the rear, because in music, with competing in that cutthroat genre of art, you want to offer your audience or judges something that makes you stand out from EVERYONE. No one wants to hear a singer that sings like Judy Garland or Celine Dion, because they already have those voices in their record collections at home. Listeners want something they've not heard before and using your OWN voice is what others haven't heard before. I'm 47 with 4 grandkids now, and I smoked through half my adult life, and ended up getting a chronic illness so I don't have the vocals that I once had. However, my ears still work extremely well and I can hear others voices when they copycat another artist or when they don't hit the right notes, in perfection. I really hear every single mistake they make and every single copycat I hear. If I can hear it, certainly judges and casting directors and audience members with musical background can all hear it. I'd rather hear a singer miss several notes, (as painful as it is to listen to) rather than hearing singers trying to become their favorite artist. It's better to everyone else as well. You can work on your missed notes and tempos but you can't improve a copycat singer that won't even use their own voice. It is ALWAYS better to use YOUR talent and YOUR vocals, then to try winning over listeners by acting like you are Mariah Carey or someone that already made their voice their own. ❤ In a nutshell: JUST STAY YOU. Feel confident in yourself and in your own vocals. Judges and casting agents and directors and record producers will possibly look over minor issues if you are willing to work on them, much easier than they will overlook you pretending to be someone that you're not, and someone that's voice is already available to the public. Be you. Stay you. And if it's meant to be, you will be noticed if you are originally and sincerely 100% YOU.
So grateful for this. Thank you. Never had a lesson for anything in my life and I’ve been playing guitar for years. And writing songs. This is a game changer.

Great
Hello super new here, I was wondering if this would be applicable for someone who has a Puberphonia of sort, especially if its a Male but sounds like a girl type of voice, he can do some low Male parts like it manages to somewhat replicate when singing the OG "Beyond the Sea" Bobby Dylan but yeah...
I thought I was alone. I feel the same way.
As a guy I feel the same way about women's songs haha
I do and feel the same! 😊
As I got older, it was easier to sing tenor than alto, and some soprano notes are now out of range.
So many people are teased into silence from childhood if they even try to sing, whether they're any good or not. It's lovely to see such advice as this, and so many encouraging comments.
I was told to mime in the infant school chorus.
Times have changed. Nowadays kids are highly encouraged to sing and dance and all that stuff..
Excellent ❤
I fall in that category. I was made to feel as though I can't sing, when really, I was just very shy and suffered from anxiety. I'm pushing back now against that which has been sitting in my head for so long. 😊
This happened today me. My whole adult life i actually cry if i sing. Its such an anxiety for me i would love to get over it and sing.
You can tell this lady perfectly combines serious knowledge about the subject and tremendous charisma. Her energy is amazing.
Your voice timbre is awesome as well.
Brilliant. Really.
she's really fun to watch, full of positive energy... really reeling you in, i like it too.
The Patrick Bateman?
She's a vocal coach why are you stating the obvious?
Thank you so much, Pat!
I've been teaching voice for 50 years; this is the first time I've found a voice instruction video on line that makes sense and is very unlikely to cause any harm to a person's voice. Brava!
This is an encouraging comment! I will follow your lead and stick with these online lessons :)❤
I agree. I was a professional singer for about 30 years, and this approach is the first one that I see as making sense. I want to do some singing again, and my voice needs exercise. This will provide it.
First?
"Copying someone else's voice is stressful."
Not for me. It's easy for me. What has been hard, is actually finding my own voice and unique style. Thanks for doing this video.
Totally agree
You know damn well that ain’t what she meant dude
Same! I can mimick female voices easily.
She means physically stressful.

I'm the most non-singing person on the planet and this was fascinating!!!😍 You make me want to learn to sing even if the best I can do is sound like a banshee with a hangover.
Singing is fun. Practice and believe in yourself. You too can enjoy singing!
I'm sure you have a great singing voice~! I can't sing either and been practising when I have the time to.
😂😂 Me too. I am sure when i sing, it will thunder and rain
i now actually know what a banshee is because of the movie bansees of irisherin (greetings from Slovenia haha)
@@kikiwritings Yes, I've never seen a banshee but they do exist from what I've heard.😄
She's the real thing. Uncommon but true wisdom. Yes, Victoria is sort of intense, but that's really genuine passion.
Thank you, Eric!
Intense and passionate vocal teacher is the best vibe. Thanks Victoria
This woman SINGLE HANDEDLY improved my voice and halped me relax my throat while singing so im more comfortable in 12 minutes
Yep she’s certainly HALPED us all!
Oh Ij7
She makes it easy to just pick up basic skills and move forward on your own. I can only imagine how effective she would be in person, fine-tuning and correcting the basic techniques and introducing more advanced as needed.
Can you link this practices?
😌Same
Ah, Rita Lee, mas tu já és cantora aqui, no Brasil!
Wonderful!
I got a deep voice too. And my youngest daughter is very loud 📢 thinking maybe see if this is a singing opportunity ...find her voice.
This woman taught me how to improve my voice in 12 minutes. Unbelievable!
This woman taught me how to get myself alienated by my neighbours. *Ee Oo siren yaya!
I once dropped a 5kg dumbell on my foot, that was the day I discovered my true singing voice 😂😂
😂😂
😂
😂😂😂
aha good one🤣
Omg are u okay
I'm very bad at English, but because you speak so clearly and don't use any uncommon words, I understand every sentence perfectly with my school English. Thank you very much for your valuable advice. You encourage me to train my voice more and to leave out the vocoder, including autotune.
Greetings from Wolfsburg
Michael
(I used google to translate my comment from German to English uhm 😅)
Thanks for the bugs bunny tip; even if that was certainly not the purpose of your video :) .
Aww
FYI, there's a bit of a New York accent there.
i thoughy the same, i'm bad at listening, but i can understand every word she's saying
@@fearlessart418 More than a bit! But that's no problem, because she speaks so clearly. There's no reason why any regional accent should obscure clarity if one has the clarity of diction that Victoria has. She puts a lot of energy and focus into each consonant and vowel. Brilliant!😀
I subconsciously mimic other singers when i sing their song, it's like you made this video for me thanks ma'am
That's okay and pretty common. Find your own voice and then go back and sing those songs with the style you want!
That's why I like singing men's songs. Less mimicking, and it's more my natural tone.
So many snake oil merchants who can’t even sing that are selling their extortionate courses.
Love this video! It's almost like having a wise friend sitting across from you, grabbing your hand, and saying "no, dear, this is how you do it." Victoria is definitely coming from a compassionate space. So helpful!
Thank you so much! 🧡
I majored in vocal performance at a University on a full scholarship in 2010.
I was jaded and thought I couldn't make money in music, so I joined the military.
In 10 minutes, you have brought slightly back what took a dozen years to take away.
Thank you.
Thank you for your lovely post. I hope that you resume singing!!
Same!! I was a performing arts major in 1996-2000 but got discouraged and joined the military. Now I"m out and wanting to dive back into singing and acting. Best of wishes to you, my friend!!
It's hard to make money in music via performance, but you can always teach!
I’m trying to find my voice
Follow your dreams
I love the frankness of this lady's teaching. A no-nonsense approach to singing. At 6:50 you get to hear the beauty of her singing.
thank you for your service hero
Hey thank you for your service brother. I’m a USMC veteran during a pretty generally peaceful time. Much respect!
God bless you and thank you for your service. I'm so happy that my videos can help you!
My word how wholesome
These exercises confirm to me I have a voice, which was stolen thru childhood trauma. I had actually discovered it about 35 years ago but I never got training. I am going to work from your videos, Victoria. Thank you so much. I love to sing. I have always known there is music in me and now I know my voice is the instrument I should have learned. BTW, even tho I struggle, because of lack of technique, I have virtually perfect pitch. I hear all the nuances, I just can't reproduce them consistently with my voice but I know that can be learned.
❤ beautifully said. Same for me.
I really hope you decide to share it with us soon. Wish you the very best.
I'm really impressed! I've been a vocal coach for 30+ years, and I LOVED this simple technique!! Thank you for sharing your wisdom!!
You're so welcome! Thank you for your post!
Мне 54 года, я не умею петь, смотрела с переводом. Очень интересно! Спасибо большое, вы молодец!
What happened that you couldn’t speak if you don’t mind me asking?
@@TheSevonne i don't know if it's the same for them but i know some people get stuck using monotone because of things like anxiety or being uncomfy with talking. some people use a fake voice without even realising
Just tried these in my living room myself and had to fight through that thought of "what if someone hears me" and the feeling "embarrassed/ashamed"
But after the exercises I tried applying them and singing something "Tearing Up My Heart" which normally I strain to sing because their voices are so high and I am always trying to immitate them instead of singing it with my voice.
I didn't become a GOOD singer in 2 hours necessarily, but the difference in just how much more breath I feel like I have is astounding
I feel uncharacteristically optimistic about how much better I could sound with more time
I'm really into the process to find my own voice. Thank you for this one.
You're so welcome!
This is so fun to watch. I’ve been smiling throughout the video because of how passionate she is. She really gets you engaged.
I was doing this in my room alone, my mom came in and asked wtf you doing?💀
Lol😅

I’m an aspiring singer and this video helped me set scheduled vocal excersices. I love how you’re so personable and encouraging in the most real ways. Love it!
Yes that's the word , personable, and not all stuffy.
As a Taiwanese🇹🇼, I feel that your pronouncement is very clear. It gives me some confidence in my English listening ability, maybe it's not as poor as I think😂. Also, thank you for your useful singing advice.
First thing I noticed too
I used to be in choir in high school, I hadn't really sung in over 5 years, and anytime I did it felt strained. After watching this video, I feel like I got my voice back! I'm definitely gonna check your other stuff out! 😭💕
I have mastered copying 372 different voices. Now I can copy you too.
Kakashi done took up singing
just found this lady, it's so nice to hear the things i've been trying to teach people for years articulated so well.
Fat deal
Thank you.
YAY! Congratulations on getting back into singing! I’m happy that I can be part of your journey!
The frontal buzz and resonance is an important technique we use in throat singing, the drone created helps us to provide structure to the melodies we are singing!
you are the realest teacher I've found online. Thank you for teaching new techniques and reassuring the ones I already use.
I love how it's so easy to understand when learning from you. You don't explain with deep English and you always give positive vibes.
Thank you so much. UA-cam does have auto-translation in the captions. You can see if it includes your language!

Great to hear from you, Sherri! 🧡. Your post makes me happy! Have fun singing with your daughter!
this is so sweet 😔🥺🥺
Wow
I'm so happy that your bandmates are noticing! ⭐🌟
These are great weekly warm ups for amateur choirs. Love mixing it up with the key chords in songs being rehearsed. 😊
The true voice thing rings true in rap/hip hop vocals as well. Most people start off trying to sound deeper than they naturally are. Sounds better when you find your own voice.
Yes but most rappers don't sing they talk and cause most aren't musicians there not in a particular key.
Beautiful ! The Brooklyn came out at the vowels! I loved it, Natural, no pretending or brainwashed over training.

Your voice is so lovely
OMG, just stumbled across this video. You are such an original, I instantly fell in love with your authenticity and your voice and every syllable you said. You have such an iconic energy, thank you for being on youtube!
Hi, Victoria 😊 I used to copy both Celine Dion and Enya just for fun, but not any more. Now I use my own unique low voice and I love it. Love your vocal exercises ❤👍👏
I got chills when you showcased the different styles with your natural voice.
She’s fantastic!!
P.S.: Another thing I believe I found out is that when I work on singing particularly high tones, it subsequently is easier to sing very low tones.
Amazingly so!!’
Thank you!
@azizazif6435 i think i just had a stroke
Awww, I’m so happy that I can inspire you to sing again! I have tons of videos that will keep you busy and having fun!
Victoria is the best vocal teacher on UA-cam!! We love you Victoria!! Keep em videos coming!! ❤🙌😊
I love how engaging, educational, and succinct your lesson was! Thank you for sharing your decades of knowledge!
I wish I could afford someone like this lady to teach me... in person. If you can have a vocal coah just be thankful!
Amen.
Amen.
Amen.
In a nutshell: JUST STAY YOU.
Ayo this ain't kindle 😂
You're such an awesome voice coach,Ms. Victoria! Thank you for your helpful tips.
Thank you for teaching little joel how to sing. He appreciated it
I think little Joel got so distracted by the bugs bunny bit he forgot to actually finish the video
Isn't "Little Joel" what everyone calls your Grandpa, where he works?
So grateful for this. Thank you.
Never had a lesson for anything in my life and I’ve been playing guitar for years. And writing songs. This is a game changer.
