I'm really excited to see how everything changes when the change has come to fruition. And regarding Savathun... she's preparing herself and The Guardian about going beyond what just the Light and Dark represent, and therefore creating something yourself. It's something more powerful than just them alone. It's potential, born not just from possibility. But from anything and everything.

With the Traveler "healing" the shard of the Traveler didn't make sense to me. And woth the Traveler being in Central / Northern South America I always wondered how it got to Europe. Thanks Byf. Love you bud.
@@bingusaerospace in the Red War campaign, year one of D2, we climbed through the walls of the Last City to enter the EDZ. From there, we walked to the shard of the traveler.
I love this new information about red war and us getting the light back! It make so much sense that the only reason we “obtained” the light again is because of memory. The darkness in the shard was channeled through the Traveller and then formed into memory or “vision” (I also believe that’s why we saw the pyramids for the 1st time in that cutscene. Hinting towards the possibility that the traveler was affected by darkness in the collapse. Or actually confirming it) then from the vision the light gave memory form and we being guardians of the light could harness this forgotten and banished power because we were created AFTER the union with light and darkness after the collapse! So freaking cool
Also if you do those darkness chests Micah mentions there’s a blight inside the traveler that needs to be removed from the traveler Edit: when I herd the name Micah I played the rdr2 story and I immediately called her a rat if ykyk
Hey Byf, If the Vex were trying to build their own Veil, what else are they building? What do you think is in the heart of Nessus? I think it sort of looks a little bit like a traveler.
on the one hand a lot of the dialogue from overthrow suggests that the wounds the witness caused will take a long time to heal; on the other hand, how long before the traveler acts upon union of light and dark within itself? the echoes are a short term answer, in a way. maybe this is what ultimately brings us a new game in the series.
Perhaps the darkness inside the traveler is making it remember its origins. Mabe the tale of the winnower and gardener is more literal. Perhaps when the gardener entered the flower game it lost its memory thus it became the traveler. The winnower on the other hand would by the nature of the darkness remember its own origins.
I think it would be a great plot point down the road for the recently evolved traveler to "awaken" the shard, and for us to have a reason to return to it, now that we are properly attuned to the Darkness. It can be a valuable resource rather than a forboding and fearful thing
Fun fact-- the line Micah says during her vision: "What is this feeling? I do not want it!" Savathune said the EXACT same line during her time undercover as Osiris. I believe her sister even says it in Audio form during the deep ocean dungeon. I could be wrong, but I think oryx MIGHT have said it in written lore. But again, not as certain on that one I wonder what this repeated phrase connection could mean. Bungie is not usually one to accidently repeat very specific lines of dialogue without reason. Could it be possible that savathune, who also heard the cry the traveler made, is she a "speaker" too? Is her sister?
Please take a look at ergo sum’s exotic ornament if you want to see what the traveler and veil looked like before they fought and split apart. The tree of silver wings was what kept them together, as you can see.
I think you might be conflating the traveler with the light in a similar way we conflated the witness with the darkness. The light didnt divest itself of a memory with the shard. The traveler did. It is a Source of light, but it is not the light itself
This basically confirms to me that the ghosts are a product of both the light and dark. If the traveler could always make ghosts, wouldn’t it have done so to try and save one of its previous races? As far as we know, earth is the only place where the veil interacted with the traveler. So the traveler used the darkness to construct the ghosts then used the light to bring them into reality. It would make sense given how many times they bring up this process during the campaign
I think it’s less likely that the Traveler and the Veil were originally one manifestation. Rather, the Veil was likely manifested with the intention of interlocking with the Traveler. By the Winnower, if such a being exists. That, or the Veil’s manifestation as an object of memory naturally includes a form that echoes the power of creation. Just like roots of a tree would naturally remember the shape of the soil.
I think the next enemy will be the Nine and the Traveler's transformation is what's going to entice them to seek it. They have previously experimented with the light by provoking us in different ways and want a way to manifest themselves. An entity with the ability to create and manifest things from memory seems like the perfect thing that would allow then to be born into our reality.
I speculate that savathun will be the one to lead the guardians into different realities and or worlds. As Mara said the awoken were born from this combination of light and dark and it broke time and space. Savathun has been interested in Mara and the awoken specifically because of this reason. Light and dark together holds a power I don't think we quite understand just yet.
I think it's the prospect of creating worlds. The Distributary was created with the uncontrolled chaos of light and dark clashing with one another, creating another w orld with distortions in time and space. Now take that knowledge, and rather than creating something in a clash between the two powers, you mixed them both into harmony, and from there created what you wished. As Micha mentioned, its more than a wish, but unconscious thought manifesting into reality. Now take that as your own, and control your thoughts, your power. And make that a reality. This is the big shift in the universe that is coming, and why mastering both powers is becoming more important than ever.
Something to note. In kingsfall we were able to use light that was pretty much not light anymore. It is possible the traveler with some help from us could be helped to turn the witness corruption into pure darkess again.
I guess I will have to see where the story goes. I seem to be alone in thinking this, but I thought that we would be moving towards trying to close the portal open on the Traveler, but I guess not. Can it be closed? I mean, for gameplay puropses I understand the need to have it there at least for the campaign and activities. However, having a massive portal open on the Traveler that can lead directly to its "core" is a security issue.
I think the nature of the darkness in the traveler is the most interesting aspect of the witness entering it, on the one hand the corruption of the witness, on the other the union of light and dark. The union between the veil and traveler was probably always supposed to happen, and is a grand new power born of the harmony of the two. were it under different circumstances the traveler might embrace this change, but it resisted the witness, hence the witness began corrupting it in order to take control.
I find it fascinating that Micah Abrams, he was able to have dreams from the Traveler, and even when turned into a female Exo and now as Micah-10 she retains that ability, but likely stronger due to being a Guardian. I love that Micah-10 was brought into Final Shape, a perfect character for this expansion. Here’s hoping she still appears a lot. Though I’m curious for Micah Abrams, what happened to his fathers?
The Taken/ Darkness corruption of the EDZ Shard is... one of the elements of story that I really wish was discovered more. My ten cent theory is that because we 'regained' our powers through it, we were predisposed to wielding the powers of both light and dark from the beginning, we just didn't know until Beyond Light. Osiris without light is able to wield Strand, Eris, And Drifter can wield Stasis, and Light-less Zavala can wield Stasis. Icora can canonically wield everything except Prismatic as far as I know, but our character is the only one who just picked up new powers seemingly at will and just started throwing them around. All of our 'corrupted' Light powers are based on ancient classes, not the modern style (looking at you Self-Res Warlocks). We might not been wielding the light, but the memory of how the light was wielded. It's a semantic difference, but it would explain why we got new Light affinity supers in The Final Shape. We're really wielding the light again.
I love the dynamic between Osiris and Nimbus, for as silly as Nimbus is and how bad lightfall is i think its cute and kinda cool that he is almost a student to Osiris, learning how things work, how the world lives and breathes around him and being taught lessons in universal function.
@@kojebChioma Esi hid all informations about the veil research from everyone. And they closed the entry to the veil. Nobody in Neomuna knew any of this. Also they never had the info from earth or the Black garden before. It's really clear, why didn't knew any of this.
The Traveler's teraforming never actually CREATED life, did it? Just the perfect chemical circumstances for it. But now, with the mixed potential, it could create anything imaginable.
I could be wrong but don't we literally see the beam create life in Lightfall? When it terraforms the pyramid? That wasn't the Silver Tree growing out of the ship, not yet at least. And when the beam reaches the Witness the plants are coming from outside the ship.
Okay... i have a thought about the shard that was shed after it was infected with Darkness. Micah makes the point after she tells us the memory that it was of the Collapse, "or a fusion of several similar memories". The Traveler is terrified that its reunion with whatever it's remembering leads not to unity, but stagnation, and the Traveler's reaction is defiance -"You can't do this! I won't let you-" and shedding the piece that's infected. What if this is instead a memory of the moment the Traveler separated itself from the Veil at t=0, but the Witness's attack during the Collapse and the infection invoked the same memory, causing it to take the same action it did in the past; seperate the part of itself that was (in contact with) Darkness? And now the same memory is correlated to seperate but very similar events.
Something that has been sitting in my mind for a long time, if either the Witness or The Veil came in contact with the Traveler at the beginning of the Dark Age, could that contact have been what made the Ghosts? They are being of Light but have a strong connection with the dark if the Witness or Dissenters speaking through Ghost is anything. And the abundance of knowledge Ghosts have seems more akin to a darkness connection, since light tends to make us forget.
I think the traveler is going to have the ability to "jump" in time. I think we will eventually be laid to rest, but not in the tomb we were found to have in the corridors of time. Similar to what had happened with Saint, i think we are going to find that we were a different variant of The Guardian that had become the mathematical equation that the winnower and the gardener had created with their game. I also believe that we will eventually be revealed as the true first knife, as we are the reason for so many downfalls of our enemies.
So, the Winnower and Gardener play a game of possilities, the Witness forces Darkness into the Traveler (so, basically a pawn becoming aware and going against the rules of the game to end it). And now the Gardener is changing due to the Witness actions. The Witness refered to itself as the First Knife. What if the Darkness the Witness has brought into the Traveler changes the Traveler to become its own version of it? Like a weapon of potential? A weapon to win the flower game perhaps?
Beware that we have not confirmation whether the traveler is the Gardener or not. Since the witness and the winnower are to seperate entities, i would assume the traveler to also be its own thing.
Been waiting for your take on this section. Honestly, maybe its because you didn't have anything definitive on it, but what stuck out like a sore thumb to me was the parallel dialog between this and the Hawkmoon lore. "What is this feeling? I do not want it" Was Savathun or Xivu Arath mirroring The Traveler? Or was it actually The Traveler we were reading to begin with? And it has a history that seems to be mirrored in the Hive gods' history?
On the question at the end of the video. And mind I am completely shotgunning this cause with Savathune who really knows. But we got communication from the windower. And as far as we know the only other being other than us and of course the witness was Oryx. Oryx write down the power to take on the tablets of ruin. The tablets the savathune had. Maybe she plans to ascend to the point of the winower itself. To become a 3rd player within the flower game.
I have a theory on what lied within the Traveler before the Witness infected it with Darkness: a vast, empty, white void. Not to say it was completely empty. It was just full of possibilities; imagination. This white void, we see when we cross into the threshold of the Traveler right after the cutscene with the falcon plays. Lights crates from noting, from imagination. Once, the inside of the Traveler was pure possibility. With Darkness? It’s now the strange landscape we see before us. The Traveler will always be a source of Light. But even after it heals completely, the Pale Heart may instead represent the unity of Light and Dark. Hopefully then, we can route the Taken and Hive out of this sacred place.
Is it possible that the traveler and veil were at one point connected and then the traveler when it “fought the infection” broke the connection and also lost a shard that fell into the EDZ?
Is it possible that the light potentially suppressed the travelers ability to communicate? I don’t know a huge amount on it. However with an uneducated guess, could the darkness potentially help the traveler communicate with us guardians? Since its power is mostly aspects of consciousness.
Savathun at this point is most likely looking for any kind of novelty or distraction. She never really got a chance to develop as a new individual after she was resurrected by the Light (like Crow), she has seen the philosophy that drove her race for millennia crushed to dust, she has lost the need to satiate her worm, and just helped to destroy the being that was a godlike slave driver/boogeyman for the majority of her existence. She is likely trying to stave off a full existential meltdown by playing her favorite game: Trying to break systems and rules to her own gain.
So the traveller seems to be conscious and has a will of its own. What about the veil? Does it have plans, consciousness, a will? It spoke to Maya Sundaresh, but besides that it was mostly presented as an object rather than a being
Were all the ghosts that will ever exist created at the end of the collapse or are new ghosts still being made? And if new ghosts are being made currently do they have both light and dark in them?
i don’t believe any more ghosts can be made because their creation was equivalent to a lizard losing its tail, except with the traveler’s frequent dormancy and now injuries, highly unlikely any more ghosts even can be made
So with this transformation of memory becoming tangible inside The Traveller, couldn't we bring back people from being dead? Or, more like, make a new copy of them from our memories? Rather than ripping Cayde away from his afterlife, couldn't we remember Caybe before he died and remake that Cayde? Or Amanda? Or Zavala's family?
So from what I understand the union of the darkness and light is the original state of the traveler and the veil but the traveler doesn’t want it ? Does this means what the winnower wants is union so he could make a physical manifestation of it self all this time Because if I’m not wrong the veil is sentient unlike the traveler
I had a thought. Now that the traveler has the darkness I wonder if it’s possible that sometime in the future it could use this harmony to create an avatar of itself to converse with us. Since we know that previously it’s been unable to do so by either Will or inability. Would be kinda cool if the story moves towards interacting with the winnower
The Traveller Transforming into something would have made the perfect D3 but that looks like it will never happen.. fancy making a new story line that they will probably never continue 😢😢
Haven’t watched the video yet; just on break at work. I speculate that the shard in the EDZ will grow to become a new “pure” Traveler and the current Traveler will change into something with more distinct personality and goals thanks to the introduction of Darkness into its heart. The current Traveler may come to resent its creations (given what happened with the Precursors) and may end up becoming something not quite villainous but no longer all-benevolent.
I think you are reaching too far yet. The traveler shed a part of its body. That doesn't necessarily mean said shard in the EDZ is aware of itself. It is more likely that the Travelers/Gardeners perspective will just change, like an indoctrination. But I don't think the shard will become "a new traveler". That would imply the Gardener and Winnower would have some sort of offspring together due to that connection forced by the Witness.

Personal snap theory. The only reason we can use the darkness is because of our connection to the corrupted light laying the ground for our proper reconnection. After the traveler healed our light was purified but we retain access to the dark before we find stasis. Same reason for the deepsight access.
Personally, especially with what Osiris says, it's pretty obvious where things are going, philosophically anyway. In physics and in life, all things must be in balance: Entropy and Order. Life and Death. Creation and Destruction. Neither can exist without the other. And if you have an imbalance between the two, you inevitably imbalance the system and risk complete destruction. Go back to your other lore videos and the history as we know it: The traveler has always created and given. It provides and nurtures without question or direction. Invariably, the things it nurtures and creates reach a point where they exist, but they look to the source of their bounty for some direction, which it doesn't understand/fears because it has no concept of creating structure, order, or direction. That's what the Veil/Winnower provided. Of course, the Witness was born out of the hearts of those who nascently understood the Veil to want order and structure, and took it to 11, so to speak in trying to create "The final shape", when IMHO, that was a misguided and fearful take of a people who couldn't understand *balance* as opposed to an ultimate, firm state. So, I think, what this change is inducing in the Traveler is an awakening of sorts, or a learning, that boundless giving without purpose is just as destructive in some ways as what the Witness wanted. And now it has to learn and grow and find structure for itself.
I truly believe bungie is reaching here. They wrote out the main big bad and now need a new “big bad”. It maybe good but bungie have lost a lot of players and aren’t doing much to bring them back. There is no good will toward players and they have gotten just as greedy as bethesda with a $7 half dlc. I want the game to actually be free to play not free to try. It's something more powerful than just them alone. It's potential, born not just from possibility. But from anything and everything.
I've got a thought: can the Traveller (its physical form and the pale heart) be a sort of a throne world?
Even the part where the pale heart was first revealed, its screamed throne world in my mine. The ghost said that the pale heart is similar to the ascendant plane but purer. I don't understand what that means.
With the Traveler "healing" the shard of the Traveler didn't make sense to me. And woth the Traveler being in Central / Northern South America I always wondered how it got to Europe. Thanks Byf. Love you bud.
The traveler is above Europe
If you go outside of the city wall, you enter the European dead zone.
@@phaseflowers no, it is not. Lol
@@phaseflowersit’s believed that the last city/traveler is located somewhere in south america based on dialogue and other things
@@Spawnofgolden that actually makes a lot of sense the Guardians are the only ones that got the power after the collapse
Also if you do those darkness chests Micah mentions there’s a blight inside the traveler that needs to be removed from the traveler
Edit: when I herd the name Micah I played the rdr2 story and I immediately called her a rat if ykyk
Hey Byf, If the Vex were trying to build their own Veil, what else are they building? What do you think is in the heart of Nessus? I think it sort of looks a little bit like a traveler.
Finally, some on the shard that's been just there on the EDZ
on the one hand a lot of the dialogue from overthrow suggests that the wounds the witness caused will take a long time to heal; on the other hand, how long before the traveler acts upon union of light and dark within itself? the echoes are a short term answer, in a way. maybe this is what ultimately brings us a new game in the series.
Perhaps the darkness inside the traveler is making it remember its origins. Mabe the tale of the winnower and gardener is more literal. Perhaps when the gardener entered the flower game it lost its memory thus it became the traveler. The winnower on the other hand would by the nature of the darkness remember its own origins.
at 4:49 i heard her insides are shared with us and it took me second to realise you said insight
I think it would be a great plot point down the road for the recently evolved traveler to "awaken" the shard, and for us to have a reason to return to it, now that we are properly attuned to the Darkness. It can be a valuable resource rather than a forboding and fearful thing
I had so many questions about the shard of the Traveller. Nice!
I'm actually excited to see more of this get explained. Something which, I suspect, will happen during the coming "episodes"
Fun fact-- the line Micah says during her vision: "What is this feeling? I do not want it!"
Savathune said the EXACT same line during her time undercover as Osiris.
I believe her sister even says it in Audio form during the deep ocean dungeon.
I could be wrong, but I think oryx MIGHT have said it in written lore. But again, not as certain on that one
I wonder what this repeated phrase connection could mean. Bungie is not usually one to accidently repeat very specific lines of dialogue without reason.
Could it be possible that savathune, who also heard the cry the traveler made, is she a "speaker" too?
Is her sister?
Or it's another "O [insert title here] mine"
Please take a look at ergo sum’s exotic ornament if you want to see what the traveler and veil looked like before they fought and split apart. The tree of silver wings was what kept them together, as you can see.
Also, the blue liquid at the base of the Traveler's Tree, is blood. And this same liquid can be found in the Dark Forest.
Micah's voice actress Pooya Mohseni has done a phenomenal job for this expansion
I wish AdvancedGG would bring back your branded merch like your shaker cup
Knowing Savathun, she might be waiting for us to discover that something and either 'watch and learn' or obtain it before us
I guess I will have to see where the story goes.
As an immediate countermeasure, Alliance Cruisers are now posted around the Aurora, as per the post-excision diologue
Besides us nobody knows how to enter. They would all die.
We just need byf to voice lore in game at this point
I love the dynamic between Osiris and Nimbus, for as silly as Nimbus is and how bad lightfall is i think its cute and kinda cool that he is almost a student to Osiris, learning how things work, how the world lives and breathes around him and being taught lessons in universal function.
it begs the question how nimbus can be so uninformed on something their city has had for centuries
@@kojeb there is lore about the propaganda of neomuna, it wouldn't suprise me if hiding the true nature of the veil was possible
I hope Osiris dumps Saint and gets down with Nimbus.
I thought the same thing!
So what if in the future someone tries to introduce the Light into the Veil?
Prismatic makes us feel like a Power again.
I also believe that we will eventually be revealed as the true first knife, as we are the reason for so many downfalls of our enemies.
personally I think of the guardian more like the last knife. slaying evil so the traveler can finally make the universe into a peaceful garden
Could the shedding of the shard and the releasing of the ghosts have been done as the same expulsion of darkness?
If there is a first knife, there needs to be at least a second. So the traveler is the second knife.
Babe wake up byf just dropped
Here for my daily lore fix
Been waiting for your take on this section.
Honestly, maybe its because you didn't have anything definitive on it, but what stuck out like a sore thumb to me was the parallel dialog between this and the Hawkmoon lore.
"What is this feeling? I do not want it"
Was Savathun or Xivu Arath mirroring The Traveler?
Or was it actually The Traveler we were reading to begin with? And it has a history that seems to be mirrored in the Hive gods' history?
On the question at the end of the video. And mind I am completely shotgunning this cause with Savathune who really knows. But we got communication from the windower. And as far as we know the only other being other than us and of course the witness was Oryx. Oryx write down the power to take on the tablets of ruin. The tablets the savathune had. Maybe she plans to ascend to the point of the winower itself. To become a 3rd player within the flower game.
Here is a question. Is the shard th only one? The witness has been chasing the traveler for a long time. Our shard might not be the only one
I wonder if the Traveler will be able to physically speak to us with its own voice someday now
Straight away, bloping some more Dusk Fallen.
Heres a crazy thought, with darkness being memory and light making things real. Would Savathun try to conjure the memory of Oryx?
Greetings my fellow lore lovers
So the traveller seems to be conscious and has a will of its own. What about the veil? Does it have plans, consciousness, a will? It spoke to Maya Sundaresh, but besides that it was mostly presented as an object rather than a being
God I love Destiny lore
I feel like I walked into something I shouldn't have 😁
Were all the ghosts that will ever exist created at the end of the collapse or are new ghosts still being made? And if new ghosts are being made currently do they have both light and dark in them?
i don’t believe any more ghosts can be made because their creation was equivalent to a lizard losing its tail, except with the traveler’s frequent dormancy and now injuries, highly unlikely any more ghosts even can be made
many scholars will explore once this data is shared 16:28 cough cough Byf
So with this transformation of memory becoming tangible inside The Traveller, couldn't we bring back people from being dead? Or, more like, make a new copy of them from our memories? Rather than ripping Cayde away from his afterlife, couldn't we remember Caybe before he died and remake that Cayde? Or Amanda? Or Zavala's family?
Where I can find your merch broo?
How long until the Traveler manifests hexagons like the EDZ shard has?
So from what I understand the union of the darkness and light is the original state of the traveler and the veil but the traveler doesn’t want it ?
Does this means what the winnower wants is union so he could make a physical manifestation of it self all this time
Because if I’m not wrong the veil is sentient unlike the traveler
Is it safe to say the witness won and that "the final shape" has yet to come?

So the traveler is changing does that mean the veil will do IT to in the future? If so neomuna is in danger. What's your thoughts.
Fruku drinking the flesh of the traveler hmmm
The veil is cut in half.
The Traveller Transforming into something would have made the perfect D3 but that looks like it will never happen.. fancy making a new story line that they will probably never continue 😢😢
aand what happened to the Veil? can we get in it like we did with the traveler??

Right off the bat, ITS A MINECRAFT!

Thanks for the channel. Maybe one day you will use a voice changer. 🍦
