Growing up in Blackpool our Friday night pub crawl was the Oxford, Saddle, Boars Head, Belle Vue then the No. 3 sometimes the Raikes as well. So 5/6 pubs along Whitegate Drive. Then a cab to the Kings Arms, which became the Flying Handbag. Then we’d finish at the 007 in Topping Street. Great nights 👍🏻

I've lived in Australia for the past 40 years-born and bred in Marton Blackpool but I have never been back.In the '70's on Friday nights it was the Oxford,Boars head,Belle Vue and No 3. The Saddle was considered to be an old mans pub then-so would have suited me better these days.Lived a bit further down the road-Knowsley ave which leads to Stanley park. My dad use to work at jubilee house at the back of the Windmill off Preston new road. Then he was employed by Bass Charringtons. He was a Brewery rep his name was Bill Broadbent the only rep at the time putting beer into all the pubs in Blackpool in the 60sand 70s and he used to call at the Saddle regularly. I wonder if anybody knew him. Mr jubilee.his nickname was. We had a night with John Moore the last time he took me there

Use to love a can of Shandy Bass as a youngster, when i first went to pubs in 85,we had lots of Charrington Bass pubs south west london,nice drop from memory. Another good video 🍺
My first job on leaving school in 1970 was with Bass Charrington. I worked in the accounts department in an office block they had in Old Trafford, Manchester. The nearest actual brewery was the Cornbrook brewery which was about a mile away from those offices. I also remember speaking to a Mrs. Springett at the Blackpool brewery, funny how certain names stick in your memory.......

I don't remember the pub but remember a large building on the corner of Preston New Road and Whitegate Drive that had a room where the old Blackpool Silver Prize Band rehearsed. I went round there in 1955 and sat in for a couple of band practices.

You can't beat a nice pint of bass, unfortunately you don't see it very often. I did manage to find a pub in derby which sold it, I am lucky because I can get a pint of it in Chertsey in the kingfisher.
Love Bass ale. Looks a great pub can't beat a traditional boozer. Will visit next time in Blackpool. I try go to Burton and drink in the Coopers Tavern at least once a year as it is not local to me. That's a great pub which serve Bass straight from the barrel. 😊
Didn't even know there was Bass Day I live in Burton on Trent where Bass Head Office is, it's just one of many Brewing Companies that used to be ihere Allied, Bass and Martons, it is known as Beer Town and the Football team nickname is The Brewers.
Thanks, Stephen. Bass, well there is a name from the past, you used to see their symbol everywhere at one time, but as you say a rarity these days. They merged in the 1960s with Charringtons brewery which was local to me in East London, becoming Bass Charrington brewery. I used to see their large fleet of Scammell artic lorries leaving the brewery every morning heading to all parts of the country as well as their smaller rigid lorries which delivered to pubs throughout London and the home counties. See the memories your videos bring back. 🙂

Good Morning Stephen. Bass was a very Good Strong Ale that i really liked to drink with my Friends. The Saddle Inn, what a Superb pub, like how pubs used to be, before the Pandemic. Now sadly pubs are closed on a Monday and Tuesday, and there hours are shorter. What has happened to the pubs these days. It is Not cheap going to the pub anymore. Pubs are closing all of the time, foot fall of pubs is reducing because of the High Cost of Living now.

Being a sheffielder my favorite was always wards sad to see these good days gone now and also not to mention stones brewery till that closed and moved to Birmingham not the same anymore didn't taste the same either perhaps the water but wards bitter for me Stephen the saddle did look ok tho.👍
I used to drink real ale by the gallon full mostly ales like Green King IPA or Abbot Ale. I never recall seeing Bass much especially around my area, Norwich and Norfolk, but no doubt it’s probably readily available if one was to look for it. I’m now having a tendency for continental lager although I still don’t mind the odd bitter now and again. That pub looks rammed it’s so popular great atmosphere to it though.
Good to see that Blackpool still has its Pub Culture , Sadly where i live near Bracknell all the pubs are being turned into Indian Restaurants very sad times unless you love eating curry everyday LOL
Your lucky I am Nottingham way, and if they close, they become nothing and the only centre of entertainment is the city centre and it's all full of students, not a great place for a mature crowd just wanting to have a few and chill, lol.

Over 65 years ago I remember my Gran drinking bottled blue bass It had a blue triangle on the label Pale Ale if my memory serves me right Bass never was one of my favourites We always followed the 🧲 logo Tadcaster Only Sam Smiths left now Good Ale but owned by a right 🤬🤬🤬🤬 I liked the inside of the Saddle I hope they do keep the interior as original as possible The exterior will look great after its wash and brush up

I came here with this crazy bird during covid. We sat outside but the beer garden was pants because they had hastily extended it. Looks a bit better now. Have you ever featured the Boar's Head? I've never been but it looks quite nice.

That Timmy Taylor's Landlord next to the Bass is good tackle too but not so easy to find.
It’s a decent substitute if our favourite is not on.
I used to live in Hampshire. We had a Bass Brewery at the foot of the hill and some days you could have got drunk on the fumes.

Can you remember the Mild brewed by Bass also there was a beer called Double Diamond brewed in Burton on Trent.
I only started drinking ale in early 2020, so anything before that I don’t know much about.
I remember a lot of football teams in the late 80's and early 90's had Bass sponsors, great video Steve, really enjoyed this one pal!

Derbyshire is a hotbed for Bass. We are keeping the brand alive with our little club.

The Marton trams were replaced by the 26 bus in October 1962, Marton tram depot closing at the same time.

Bass is an ok beer but it was once a great beer. If you want to try a proper Burton ale check out Gates Ale brewed in Burton On Trent.
