Excellent video, Simon! What I liked about this is that you "get it". This is a what being British is all about to me. The fact that many see this latest venture by Clarkson as a gimmick, is in my book wrong. He's doing what he can to essentially save pubs. It's scary to say the least that it's hard to find a proper boozer anymore that serves proper beer and snacks. Top Job!
True well said. In a room of Artisans there are no gimmicks or gimmickry. This is the Britain we need. The Hustle of All Things must go to rest as a modus operandi. Nobody should die a non-artisan.
Clarkson will sell out to a macro brewery ie, Heineken, this is not a proper pub ,it looks more like a Marston pub/restaurant type of place, your real pubs are more local and smaller selling top quality cask beers,I've had a couple of Hawkstone beers and believe me nothing special, but I suppose better than macro brewed beers, your Timothy Taylor, Theakston, Sam Smith just to name 3, plenty of more are supior beers, Clarkson just living of amerzon and his car shows.
@@jupitermoongauge4055 somebody tell them that that landscape at Clarkson's and elsewhere - which they so enjoy - is all owned by the old gentry. So nice to let the hoi-polloi have a look at it, innit
I have to agree with you about Don. Not only knowledgeable, but also a delightful character. Thank you for posting, Simon. I thoroughly enjoyed watching.
Simon Joel from down Under here. Absolutely loved everything about this down load. I been following Clarkson's farm project and new pub, But this really showed the magnificent journey this Clarkson project has gone🙂. What a fantastic set up and landscape this is.
You know what Simon, I have to say it as a guest from Poland in UK. It's brilliant, that places like Hawkstone Brewery and Jeremy Clarkson's venues offer true British experience. UK should rise again with the culture, brilliant and funny people, and proper food and real ales. I love it, glad you love it, Make UK great not well you know ;)
@@jupitermoongauge4055 Not only, I would also add great distance and sense of unique humor, honesty and heritage. But let's be honest most of people that are not from UK will say pubs. And that's in a good way. I love true British pubs, for the people, for food, for great ales, and most of all for doggies that are allowed inside :)
@@jupitermoongauge4055 wow he was just making a positive comment about a specific thing that many people enjoy in Britain, its not that deep. But I suppose you read what you like into it, especially if you are miserable bore who takes pleasure in chiding people for having the temerity to enjoy something
Second this. England has a beatiful and rich culture: their manners, their ability to always be humerous, their architecture, their comfort food, their whiskey and ales.
Great video, i do love the Hawkstone lager and cider. Mr Clarkson has done and is doing a superb job with his new pub, restaurant etc. Really well run and run by people who actually care.
The chap is right beamish is streets ahead of guiness Simon I have to give it to you this is a superb exclusive You’re reaching new heights Well done I’ve given you some stick in the past But I will give credit where it’s due Fantastic work mate
THIS this the kind of content I absolutely love From you Si. Wonderful. A video like this is the reason why I will always support this channel. Hope all Is well Si! 🍺
Great video. You hit the nail on the head with the fact pubs are all about food - and crap beer. What happened to pub games? That dart board, dominoes, pool etc that keep people entertained and enjoying a few drinks. When was the last time you went in a pub and stood up eating snacks and drinking a pint or three, crammed shoulder to shoulder socialising with random people, just getting merry and having a good time? Places like this would make a fortune. They could even put on a mini bus back into town to help with the killer cost of taxi’s these days. The great British pub has been sanitised and killed off. This ban on smoking outdoors won’t help. What a ridiculous idea when people in places like this sat in a field in a deck chair won’t be allowed to do something they enjoy. I don’t smoke but it’s a step too far and another attack on pub culture.
Dan and I are lucky that in our neighbourhood we have 3 proper boozers, within a 15 minute walk/1 mile radius from home. A rare thing these days indeed.
Got to laugh. Started off with the best intentions of having a sasuage+mash, probably saw the prices and ended up with a bag of crisps! 😄Cracking video Si. 10/10. Boom!
Nice to see Don, not seen him for a while. He used to brew in Southampton and would pop into my local, The Gate in Park Gate, for a pint when he made deliveries.
Great video. Clarkson is a bit of a Marmite character, but what he's done for British farming is great. Lets hope he can do the same with the British brewing and pub industry 🤞
Great review. I really hope he makes a success of it. We need more people like him who champion common sense and have an entrepreneurial spirit. It’s not my kind of pub but I will buy some of his beer in bottles Thanks.
Looks like a decent pub and the surrounding countryside looks splendid. That stout looked lovely fresh from the bbt , far better than drinking the boring Irish G stout. Shame no cask on
You need to spend a lot more time in the brewery with Don. Fascinating. Every youtuber and his dog has done the pub. It was great to see the passion behind the brewing.
That pub game next to the dartboard you was confused about is called “Bar Billiards” many British pubs had that before pool tables became popular in the 80’s and 90’s. It’s quite rare to see pubs that have Bar Billiards nowadays.
Really enjoyed the video Simon, looks fantastic I’ll have to go there soon ..love the country side ..I’ve been watching your videos last few months and catch up on your older ones 👍Keep up the good work,I’m from the north wales in Wrexham cheers 🍻
We had just 4 days in England back in late April this year but managed a visit to Diddly Squat on day 2. A fast visit but great for context when watching this vid and Clarksons Farm. Cheers from South Australia 🍻
Great video Simon and a real eye opener as to how good the beers are that are brewed on site. Don was a bit of a star. As for the whole set-up, clearly a celebrity pub operating on turbo mode. No wonder James May is jealous, good as his boozer is. All good to see therefore and definitely good for Mr Clarkson I daresay! My only concern would be for all the local real ale pubs around this place!
Definitely did get called the Windmill, it's not far from where I live in West Oxfordshire. Fun fact - It has a huge secluded car park and was better known locally for being a dogging site.
Finished watching the second half . Looks a great place . I love the beers . Can’t wait for the stout to come to market. Cheers Simon . Great video. 👌🏻👊🏻. Speno
You're in your element mate on these "out and abouts". And you turn up unannounced without being "Big I Am". Have alot of time for Jezza though not impressed with the IPA (no wonder if it's brewed with British hops and lager yeast)
What a fantastic video . Still got some to watch , but of on a plain so will watch later . Fantastic Simon and the stout looks and sounds amazing! Cheers Speno
Great video Simon. But, we went from sausage n mash, relegated to a sausage roll, then a bag of cheese n onion, what happened to the grub? I know Gary Eats went here around the same time as you and they weren’t doing food off the main menu
I've tried Hawkstone bottled IPA and the lager, found the flavour a bit flat and wouldnt buy again. Great to see his pub busy, maybe people will start to patronise their own local pubs too so they don't all close down. The power of celebrity eh. Great channel but agree with a couple of the other comments- driving to the pub for a few pints isn't a good look.
Just up to the bit about the British hops and how long it takes to mature etc .....fascinating stuff ....exciting Straight from the tank what a privilege 👌
The guy you met, at Hawkstone brewery, the irish guy was stressing when i did the brewery tour back in May. He was spot on in explaining how everything worked though! Great to see him on your vid

This new stout should be called “The Top G” in honour of the main man Gerald. Makes sense, Clarkson has the larger, kaleb has the cider and Gerald has the stout 👍
