It sounds like driving a pick up truck in Europe would be a lot better than driving them in America, I live in America and I know semi trucks were pretty lucrative 30 to 40 years ago but now it’s just such a nightmare

@@panamike6178 You must not have researched how terrible truck driving benefits/pay is in the last 6/8 years, unless you're driving in a very specific part of the US or are a owner/operator. It isn't as lucrative as it used to be.

Your excitement is infectious! Just (this morning!) purchased ETS2 and ATS on Steam on a 75% off sale. I had trouble with the Xbox controller (360 one) as well, even a G27 is difficult, it's pretty logical to have steering wheels in trucks being capable of at least 3 times from center left and right. (It's one of the reasons I'm building a simrig using a modified G27).

Worth it? I bought it on sale for like 5 dollars and it’s by far the most enjoyable and educational game in that it greatly enhances your real world driving skills. Yes it most definitely is.
100% agree with you on your main points of ETS2: leaning back in my chair and relaxing, the speed of passing time, and the fact that I enjoy it so much!
I love ETS2 and ATS. SCS is now busy updating Austria, hopefully they'll revisit other old map parts as well. It is so relaxing I sometimes get sleepy after driving with some music on 🤣 I play with a Xbox 1 controller and it works well for me, can't use a steering wheel because I drive a truck in real life 🙈
My dad had the falling asleep behind the wheel in real life due to monotone sounds causing him to loose concentration and then sleepy. He thankfully doesn't drive a truck, but he once veered off on the highway. Other than that my dad is an excellent driver but that was a bit scary (I was still a child when that happened, someone honked to warn him and he was wide awake again. He had only been driving for 45 minutes but decided to find the first parking spot along the highway to refresh.
@@Dutch3DMaster wow 😮 . I drive a truck in real life and have no trouble. It's only in game it happens sometimes, even with music on. Other games I don't get sleepy at all. Only happens with driving games, even racing games 🙈
Some additional setting change to make it more fun. Reduce all truck stiffness to zero, you will not be able to do tight cornering in high speed without whole trailer overturn. Put brake at 50%, you have to judge the safety distance for braking before kissing the butt of the front vehicle. Turn off the traffic violation, it is really stupid and unfair as some of the trucks (logger, unbranded or safety truck) will try to race with you and cost you a traffic ticket when you try to overtake them.
I used to play 10 years ago for a bit but could not get the hang of it. Recently got it back and found it so relaxing that’s it’s now my favourite passing time activity when I’m not reading or doing other real life related stuff.

you know, im honestly not surprised people play this game religiously, i have 40 hours irl time in game, and yea, sure, you are effectively doing the same thing over and over, but the destinations are mostly randomly generated, the traffic, the events the weather is all randomly generated, there is even a day night cycle (i freaking hate night driving, i play this on nights i can't even rest and i don't think my family would be best pleased for me to be truckin at night, so my screen brightness is all the way down so night driving is a nightmare) so this game is dynamic and is pretty much always fresh, the personalisation is also through the roof, i love my scania, honestly, i find the game to be cathartic and the thing is, i would actually like to do it irl if given half the chance, like if someone offered me the money for a garage and a truck saying, pay me back by building a business, i would, i mean sure i would need to get a drivers licence and heavy good vehicle licencing but i mean, thats a given, im a 21 year old who would have prepped for a driving licence had covid not hit

Not visually (some crazy thing in the licensing agreement about the manufacturers not wanting their products to look bad, go figure lol), but the trucks and trailers can take calculated damage while driving or when you have an accident.
