  • @imanbs

    The reason I've been considering to get it, apparently, is its multi-source connection to mix with instruments, and with bluetooth devices, as well. What is still in doubt, to me, is how it's going to sound outdoor, since I am also thinking of taking it out for busking, though it doesn't seem to matter too much, eventually. It is a pair of monitor speakers. :-)

    I've been using these since they came out. I live in a tiny apt. and was mixing solely on headphones. These were a big improvement for my mixes, and the portability/size for my small setup is perfect. My only real complaint is that I wish my amp sims sounded better/were more inspiring to play through the iLouds when just using them to play/practice guitar.

    Unbelievable lows on these are actually a psychoacoustic type of thing. Resonance is tuned for a lower harmonics of sounding wave, so your brain hears those harmonics and builds up a "big" sound. Same thing, for example, happening with Edifier HD25, but they additionally have passive resonance driver, and they sound even more bassy.

  • @JohnsonInc999

    Your comments on the high end response being "Duller". In terms of mixing would you say that is somewhat a fault or would you say that it attributed to to being a flat response that will help with mixing accuracy for mastering and getting a even final for listening in other devices ? Thanks.

    • @GaragebandandBeyond
      @GaragebandandBeyond  6 років тому

      Good question. I wouldn't say it's a "fault", it's just how they sound. It's just something you have to get used to, like any new monitors you'd get.
      But I still use them everyday here in my studio.

    • @JohnsonInc999
      @JohnsonInc999 6 років тому

      Thanks. I guess what I mean is if you are mixing with these and the high end is not what you want, does that mean the monitors are telling you to make adjustments for your final mix to bring more of the higher frequencies to your mix, or overall the highs are just less no matter what you do ? Thanks for the quick response. I see so many conflicting reviews on every speaker, I see alot of reviews referring to them as multi media speakers, but IK call them "Reference Monitors". I also have Maudio BX8's and love they way they sound jamming tunes, but have found their accuracy to be a learning curve. Like I have to pump more lows in my mix through them for the final mix to sound good outside my mixing room. So I want accuracy so when I mix I can just know they are going to translate with minimum remixes to the real world. Thanks.

    • @GaragebandandBeyond
      @GaragebandandBeyond  6 років тому

      I understand, but there's a learning curve for every set of monitors really. I would say that it has helped keep my high end in check actually. If the mix sounds really bright on the iLouds, then you know for sure that it is too bright.
      Also keep in mind that your mixing space is going to play a HUGE role in how you're hearing the speakers. Monitor stands are nice, at least getting them isolated form a desk is always good. Plus make sure you're in in a corner or something. And of course acoustic treatment is always nice if you're in a bedroom type space.

    • @TheRealJohnHooper
      @TheRealJohnHooper 6 років тому

      Hifi Fans would call this speaker very clear and bright.. But studio pros are used a even more lighter sound.. so it really depends with what you compare it..

    I would love your advice/opinion. I want something to run my Nord piano 3 through. Just bedroom set up. But i also want something that's going to sound great for when i start making electronic music and when I go to sleep and listen to my sweet sweet symphonies. I debated KRK 5s and then i saw these puppies. What are your thoughts? Thanks, great video btw.

    • @GaragebandandBeyond
      @GaragebandandBeyond  5 років тому +1

      Ezra Nixon in all honesty I would probably buy the iLouds. Those KRK monitors have sort of fallen out of popularity amongst most people. I have heard both and I only own one of them.
      I would definitely say that they have an equal amount of low-end as well. But the iLouds have better mids for sure.
      And from what you’re describing, it sounds like the Micro monitors would be perfect for your application.

    I really want these monitors to take away with me for listening to music while I am away working or on holiday however for recording, I own the Adam SX with the almighty ribbon Tweeters. The top end on these spks is stunningly evident as soon as you hear them because they move air and information 4 times more efficiently than any piston design also they are as silky sounding as you can possibly imagine. My concern is as I am so accustomed to the Adams would I struggle to adjust to the IK monitors being that they are not very bright..? I know they are adjustable and one can brighten up any track but for leisurely music listening are they too much of a transition...?

    • @GaragebandandBeyond
      @GaragebandandBeyond  5 років тому

      They are never going to be as good as the Adams, but they are exceptionally good for the are. The high end is NOT brittle at all and very pleasing to the ear. • @FriedEgg101
    @FriedEgg101 6 років тому

    I bought these recently, and I like them. I got them on sale at amazon. However, I also have 8" monitors and I would not say that these micro monitors translate the bass almost identically to 8" speakers. Not even slightly. To be perfectly honest the bass on the iLouds sounds artificially boosted, to the point of discomfort. I have to EQ the bass down on these little guys. Aside from that though I love them. They image really well and are still worth their money, especially if you buy them on sale :)

    • @GaragebandandBeyond
      @GaragebandandBeyond  6 років тому

      It sounds like perhaps the room you’re using them in could use a little acoustic treatment.

    • @FriedEgg101
      @FriedEgg101 6 років тому

      I have acoustic foam on the walls and in the corners of the room, and sit in front of both the krk rp8s and the iLouds. I just don't like the bass from the iLouds. It's not that it's lacking, it's that they try too hard imo. That's my only criticism of them though, and it doesn't particularly detract from their value. And I enjoyed your review.

    • @GaragebandandBeyond
      @GaragebandandBeyond  6 років тому

      No worries at all! I know what you mean, it takes some getting used to because there is so much more low mid information than you're getting from your KrK's especially if you're in a smaller space. But I can tell you that once you do get used to it, you'r mixes will be better than ever!
      Also if your desk is resonant, that will negatively affect the tone.

      The ilouds are a great small and portable set of monitors that somehow have a very natural and flat response. Thus, I'm reviewing them and thus, you'll see them used in some VERY pro studios as well as an option C for listening, which is exactly how I have them setup, but TBH I find myself doing a lot more on them than I ever would have guessed.
