My two favorite players playing an awesome format? Hell yeah, please do more of these :D Though next time, I wish the two of you were in the sane voice call :)
Love NBL Modern. I think Depths normally works out the best deck as it has just so much game vs everything and isn't easy to hate out like most the other busted stuff. There are two ways to build it, you can go Lurrus or Oko.
@@ChannelFireball Honestly I think that's where Modern needed to be from the start. The format started with a banlist that had a bunch of stuff that didn't need to be there, which caused some cards to be stronger than they should have, which led to R&D banning themselves in circles. Bloodbraid Elf and Deathrite Shaman were banned to nerf Jund, which caused Splinter Twin to go unopposed. But Splinter Twin was too strong, so it got banned, and then Eldrazi had a field day. So they ban stuff out of Eldrazi. I doubt anything in these decks would have needed a ban if Dark Depths and Ponder are legal in the format from the get-go. Only a few cards need to actually be banned in Modern. Sensei's Divining Top is an obvious choice. Umezawa's Jitte may be another (since it makes aggro a lot worse). People don't even play Mental Misstep in every deck in NBLM.
Reid Duke against Luis Scott Vargas is insane. The clash of the titans of MTG history. Wow. I backed up this video on two different storage units cause in 2045 someone will ask for it and there are no guarantees UA-cam will be even a thing. This is insane, best video of the decade, minimum.
In 2045 Reid and Luis will be playing no banlist post-moderneer on their Applestation 12s in the final Megacity left run by Disnamazon, while the wasteland dwellers try to climb the walls to get a taste of clean air.
Urza’s Saga the best card in the UG deck, and arguably the best card in NBL. I don’t think this means it needs to be banned in regular modern tho. The reason it’s so good is it’s carried by the artifact lands and mopal, and it overpowers oko.
It would have been fun if you guys were in a discord call and just toggled mute when you wana talk about your hand and lines of play, but unmute when you wana say things to you opponent for some fun banter between the two of you
I'd love to see a version of this where you guys each pick 3 of your favorite standard decks and see who comes out on top. Would be cool to see things like Affinity vs Energy or U/G Madness vs Ramunap Red.
I feel like this format is actually pretty good, maybe it's a little unexplored and that's why it seems that way but there should be more events of it.
It does seem like it's unsolved. I still think No Banlist Modern should be seriously looked at by R&D. A lot of Modern's current banlist is a result of WotC banning themselves in circles. A lot of cards can come off. Chrome Mox is a good example. WotC is worried it would lead to to too many turn 1 or turn 2 kills, but I think it would more likely be used the same way it was in Extended circa 2004. Chrome Mox was used most often in aggro decks to help them keep up with combo. Playing two Goblin Lackeys on turn 1 or getting Psychatog going on turn 2 with Circular Logic as backup were much, much more common plays than something absurd like Storm using Mind's Desire.
I think there should be a format like this plus the non reserved list cards from Legacy, so you could also play Hymn, Sinkhole, Ancient Tomb etc. Would be a cool way to play broken things without the hurdle of buying Duals, City of Traitors etc for Legacy.
Who would have predicted that best two magic players (by myriad, diverse, and disparate metrics) would also naturally have the perfectly winning straight-man/gag-man duo dispositions? They should honestly have a Judd Appetizer movie based on them.
In the UG deck, would be better to play more crypts than spellbomb, but there’s already one crypt for saga to find. Could play more for artifact synergies, but depends how badly you want to hose gys.
@@sorin_markov it’s not easily removed, there’s like no removal in nbl (oko is the removal). From my testing it was pretty good. Treasure cruise is great. Weak to depths specifically tho.
@@sorin_markov yes, the depths deck played 3 copies of fatal push… in the sideboard. A card that also gets hit by mental misstep. The format is too full of proactive strategies that ignore removal that decks can’t afford to play them. You see no PEnding, no Solitude, no Unholy Heat. The most you see is, as you pointed out, fatal push in the sideboard of depths decks.
@@ChannelFireball what?!? I loved Hogaak /s Actually I hate that Hogaak got Bridge from Below unjustly banned and that WotC never fixed that mistake. FREE THE BRIDGE!!!
Glimpse of nature is a modern banned card, and the deck is competitive in legacy, skull clamp is probably the strongest card in the modern card pool. And the deck seems very good, do you know elves combo legacy? Or what were you thinking?
@@kailar9415 the deck is good in legacy because of gaea’s cradle, wirewood symbiote, and now allosaurus shepherd to play through chalice. You must not follow very closely, but many legacy elves decks don’t even play glimpse anymore. In NBL it gets hosed by chalice and is slower than other combo decks. I say this from my testing for the Kanister NBL tournament.
Something messed with the resolution of this vid? Looks bad on phone and on Pc, cant read the text of the cards. Tried different res's , I'm not sure at this point. Love the concept mind!
This deck is 1 Uro away from being the GU Uro control deck that controlled the format for a while. I think that was a little more Urza, but why not “KISS”. Keep it Simple Stupid! Blue/White/Red, Splinter Twin and white for Teferi. Actually that is too fair. A couple years ago I figured out how to build T1 storm in NBL modern. That is much much more fair. *if Reid is on Punishing Fire Jund… sigh. Also lifetime at events, I’m 3-0 vs Reid in the Jund mirror. He needs to step up. (Winning vs him with SB Bonfire in the Jund mirror…)

¡pretty pleaaaaase!
Yeah, both of them just chatting about plays in real time would be so awesome.
LSV and Reid playing modern is the best content on youtube by far

CFB running a clinic lately on “give the people what they want”.
that win on the mulligan to 4 was so satisfying to watch
Funniest part was that he didnt even do much with the banned list that game. That was really just Urza's Saga + LS and artifact lands.
@@narex45635 Yea. I laugh when people say the artifact lands should be unbanned. Saga armies too big!
urzas saga carried
I really liked all the tilted people assuming you can't recover off a bad mull too. Mentality difference
Urza's Saga is a messed up card.
This was a great.
Had to listen to most of it, but i would love to see more, no banlist, modern.
Fantastic content! Actually makes NBM looks like a balanced and reasonable format.
Maybe we should unban everything and just watch the carnage

Balanced and reasonable??? I think your tilting. Stand up straight bro!
Channel fireball really be working their best recently to give us that sweet sweet LSV content we all love so dearly
Give us more things to make him do. We'll get him to juggle or skydive, whatever.
Have him read a Dr. Seuss book out loud.
"The world is my oyster" ... "I did not like that oyster very much" is everything you could ask for in a quote.

Enjoyed watching this very much! Would love to see more like this
Why do I have a feeling Reid will play Deathrite Jund in Matches 1, 2, and 3? 🙂
so cool to feel nostalgic for decks that I've never seen before

The layers of broken are interesting right?
Would've loved to have seen a cloudpost deck maybe.
A one of skullclamp might be a good inclusion in the affinity deck
We demand more LSV! He and Reid playing this format is awesome.
This was such an unexpected joy to see in my recommended
Wow there’s no Hogaak or Summerbloom Titan! Very very shocked.
very strange seeing how strong hogaak was and amulet decks are today
I have always wanted to run a green deck into a Mental Misstep deck and try to free Summoning Trap into Emrakul turn 1.
It would have been fun if you guys were in a discord call and just toggled mute when you wana talk about your hand and lines of play, but unmute when you wana say things to you opponent for some fun banter between the two of you
Already had a chat with our video team about how to do a better version of this, so this feedback is great!

oh gosh two of my faves duking it out. It's electrifying!
Yes! Coming later today!
Literally the coolest video imaginable, 27k views is like 1% of what this needs
Hey google, whats 27,000 x 100
This format seems more fun than actual modern
Just because it isn't being played competitively, otherwise just wait for the most broken deck to be abused and give a reason for the banlist to exist
Nah, you get tired of it reallll quick
It's all fun and games until the format gets solved
agreed
@@ChannelFireball Nothing indicates that the NBL modern metagame would be any less healthy than the current modern metagame
The first chat comment about him having no chance on a mull to 4 basically ensured that he was gonna win that game lol.
Love the phoenix deck. I wonder what a no banlist murktide mirror would look like!
Amazing videos! Would love to see more!
Luis is a beast, as a player and deckbuilder. A true master
wish NBL modern was mainstream there's a lot of fun deckbuilding space to explore
I think there should be a format like this plus the non reserved list cards from Legacy, so you could also play Hymn, Sinkhole, Ancient Tomb etc. Would be a cool way to play broken things without the hurdle of buying Duals, City of Traitors etc for Legacy.
would have loved to see some ponder oko+delver or some old school eggs
Keep up the great thumbnail selection and even greater gameplay

rip Reid would love to see his reaction to the legend rule mox opal :D
Did anyone else notice the CF img be huge for 1 frame? at 36:04 lol
It would be cool if they reset all the bans in modern just to start a new one.
With Lurrus and Saga why are you running Leyline and not Nihil Spellbomb?
Against the graveyard decks, Leyline wins the matchup. The consistency at beating graveyard strategies is more important than Lurrus.
In the UG deck, would be better to play more crypts than spellbomb, but there’s already one crypt for saga to find. Could play more for artifact synergies, but depends how badly you want to hose gys.
Hard to believe ponder and preordain were both once standard legal.
Hard to believe LSV didn't mention it as a banned card in his Phoenix deck tech XD
Hard to believe LSV sent THAT picture when we asked for a photo like Reid's. We should probably make sure he's ok.
@@ChannelFireball Haha :)
Cool concept!
3:55 interestingly also Pokémon VGC is debating whether to play with open or clised team lists.
If you're running Emory and Mishra's Bauble you should run one Minamo, School at Water's Edge.
Would love to see "no Modern Horizons" Modern.
Why no otawara in the pheonix deck?
best vedio ever to see those monster decks fight against each other in 2 best players hands
When i think of most broken cards i immediately think of hogaak. Cool decks anyhow!
Hahah, awesome. Looks like Urza's Saga is the only MH2 card powerful enough to make it in this meta?
NBL is one of the best formats to watch! Probably b/c it isnt "solved". Brings back GoG memories with Randy and Shadow.
Nice can we get some Matt Nass KCI action in another one would love that
I hope to see someone take advantage of the phyrexian mana in nbl and build a strong deaths shadow build
Death's Shadow just isn't strong enough for NBL Modern. It's too easily removed and there are stronger things in play like Dark Depths

"Let's let em cook" LMFAOOO the best
Watching no ban list modern and urzas saga solos the first game.

Working on getting that out too
This is how wars should be fought
Based.
No banlist wars seems not a good idea but now I'm thinking the Geneva convetion is just a geopolitical banlist so that's kinda cool
Pretty surprised to see no Hogaak in this one, but fun nonetheless
There's a format called "Mugu" after Mugu Games in everett where it's no ban list highlander modern...play that next!
Is there a playable hogaak deck in this format?
Definitely.
Yes, but it’s easily exploitable because too reliant on gy. It’s one of the more powerful g1 decks tho.
No way I'm not playing a blazing shoal deck in nblm
Magic as Richard Garfield intended.
Richard Garfield: I don't want FUN, or FAIR, I want BROKEN DAMMIT.
imagine not playing second sunrise with no banlist
Second Sunrise is literally the last card I would want to play. You must like playing long games of solitaire.

Weird, it's working fine here - might just have been processing still?
That game one hand that LSV kept with the dark depths deck was horrible... 1 castable spell and 3 hexmages is so bad, shocked that he kept it.
LSV playing ZERO Deathrite Shaman across three decks, what a travesty
Saga with oko.. busted.. lol
First game is hilarious because you won on a mull to 4 but you won because of urza saga. And artifact lands I guess lol
Reid choosing to not cast a deathrite shaman feels like blasphemy. Awesome clip though.
Honestly, Depths is a card that could be unbanned without any doubt. There is so much interaction against the token nowadays.
I think dark depths would be fine to unban in current modern
I think it's a crime that none of you played 12 post
enjoyed the vid nonetheless
No ragavan in the red deck seems like an oversight

Ancient grudge is key to stop Reid from using Chalice on 1, which pretty much wins the game for him if it sticks
Can we have daze and oracle ban legacy event :p?
No banlist legacy would be pretty wild too
People asking if he even had a chance in that game 1 have clearly never played a high powered format before 🤔🤭
Urzas saga is a hell of a drug kids.
