Just wanted to drop a quick comment. I have been feeding this recipe to my dogs for about 3-4 months now. The improvement in their skin, coats, and overall disposition is amazing. My grumpy dog is not nearly as grumpy, and most of mine are senior dogs and they are now dancing for their dinner. Truly amazing! Thank you so much for this recipe!
@@sherrylivering4149 i feed both my dogs for the most rice and chicken but one gets really sticky eye boogers and scratches at his face like the top of his head his eyes and side of his mouth. Would you happen to know if thats allergies? Ive tried vets but they are worthless.
Yes! Definitely allergies. Many dogs are allergic to chicken. Mine are. They also do much better without grains (rice). I use sweet potatoes in place of the rice in this recipe. Mine used to get really bad eye boogers too but that stopped once I took them off the chicken. I also use distilled water as their drinking water. That helps with the eye boogers too.

My 4 year old Pit starting having skin issues and was losing hair. He was put on meds and a shampoo. It keeps coming back and I’m not too hip on Big Pharma so I’m trying all the amazing advice you share. I’m now seeing the rash and inflammation going away! People where I work can’t believe I cook all the time for my dog and cat. Sometimes I forget to cook for my son and I. Not fun, but I don’t trust the dog or cat food industry. Thank you for all the time you put into your research and your videos. Just wondering what your wife says about the animals on the counter, she must be an awesome woman.
My dog was losing patches of hair! Awful 😢 I give olive oil real virgin on their food 1 tablespoon, but there BIG. Once Day. Actually used coconut oil all on their spots, and Great for them to lick. All hair is back, and we only need to do the virgin olive oil now. He is so happy, but I do make all homemade food too. Before the vets give me steroids and a powder. Nothing . I am so amazed by this Vet here he ROCKS!!!
Hi robiny. I have a black Labrador Mix and several cats. I'm going to try the olive oil. My baby has patches as well and I put coconut oil on them as well. Can you please tell me what recipes you cook for your cats. Much appreciated.
I adopted a dog recently from the shelter and she was itching nonstop. I found your recipe and it’s been about two weeks and she has stopped scratching. Thank you so much.
I've been feeding this recipe to my 2 dogs for over 2 weeks. I have a Maltese who's always licking with discharge in corner of eyes, and a Chia who is Super Picky Eater! I used what I had in storage before going to store for first week: Ground Turkey, russet potato, carrots, and frozen spinach. After one week on this food, my Maltese lost a few ounces (needs to lose 2 1/2 pounds), eye goo and licking stopped. I bought the Ultimate Caine formula and sunflower and made a 2nd bigger batch. I noticed the poop was black for a week but now back to normal. I know it was the toxins coming out. The recipes are simple and easy to make, so when meat goes on sale I buy a bunch to make and freeze. Thank you Dr. Jones for sharing your knowledge with us, you're truly appreciated! P.S. I did taste the turkey recipe and it's really good:)
I am going to try this for my 15 yr old Bichon Poodle mix. So sick of seeing him suffer with skin sores, scabs. Constant antibiotics, allergy meds. etc. I hope this is the miracle we need. He has Cushing's, pancreatitis, arthritis, and kidney disease. I need a miracle for him. ty doc.
Much easier if you put it all in a baking pan and make a meatloaf , I've been making dog food for years and found this was the simplest was to do it. I use instant rice so I don't have to cook it. I use frozen butternut squash and sweet potatoes too.
@@SwatchMeCrochet I just throw ground beef or ground turkey in an baking pan aluminum kind, add rice cooked or instant, oatmeal, whatever veggie you want, I use frozen chop spinach, green beans, butternut squash and sweet potato some chia seeds and an egg, mix every thing right in the pan, so easy, bake at 350° about 55 min to 60 min.
I have just started cooking for my dog. Thank you for your recipes I told my doctor the other day I’m eating dog food , she nearly fell off her chair, I then of course told her, I’m cooking the foods Molly my dog can eat and we share, I just add onion separately to mine , was so funny
Oh sure, I’m gonna listen to some guy who just lets his dog walk around all over the countertops and anywhere else they want, then he eats their food! You damn right I’m listening to him! Love what you do for all our babies!!!
@@AfricanLolly A different common protein that is not what they've been getting regularly. Here they use a lot of beef, lamb, and chicken to make store-bought pet foods. That's why he says to switch to turkey 😺👍
Your advice is super Dr Jones. I fed my beloved boy all home prepd food - mince white rice, green beans egg whites only and shell for his CKD, for one year before he passed over rainbow bridge he was 19 and my soul buddy Bless him x
I know this is an older video but just wanna say this recipe appears to have helped my 18 month pitbull with pretty severe skin issues in as little as 2 weeks!! I’m absolutely amazed. Thanks so much for this video!! ❤❤❤
We make something very similar to this, bit we cook the rice in a nice bone broth and add whatever meat we are cooking, apples or blueberries and sometimes a little greens and our dog loves it too. In fact, every time we cook rice for ourselves, she assumes it is for her and gets all excited. :)
Love all your videos. After years of trying to keep my life focused around homeopathy, organic foods and loving raising my dogs and feeding them well, I appreciate all that you do for your viewers. Love your demeanor and sweet personality.
@@VeterinarySecrets hi doct I need your help how can we make a little conversation I have big problem with my staffy??? I’ll be thankful if you respond my massage .
My dog just recently started pulling egg shells out of the trash can to chew. I didn't think it was good for him to eat that way so I took it away. I guess he was telling me he's deficient in that nutrient. I'll pull out the grinder and I'll make my dogs this recipe to at least mix with their dry. They'll LOVE it! Thank you!
I always use sunflower oil with my dogs food now its also the only oil that doesn't upset his stomach. My boys 12 years old and doesn't handle brown rice well for some reason so I use either chicken or turkey with sweet potatoes and green beans...I also add in sardines and eggs a few times a week with added vitamin suppliments x
My husband makes this ALL THE TIME for us!!! His famous turkey tacos, except he adds chopped kale too & serves with diced jalapeños, cilantro & lime juice! Yum! I’m making a huge batch for my 3 teens, hubby, me & our 2 poodles! 😋 Thank you for this recipe
@@VeterinarySecretsdoes the sunflower oil have something in it that this recipe needs? Or does the omega-3 provide that? Would it change anything by using a coconut oil or olive oil? I personally have allergic reactions to most seed oils...
Thank you so much for this recipe. My miniature schnoodle loves it and his allergies are improving. The best part of this video is watching you eat it and seeing Tula in the background. Adorable!
Please let me know how things go. I did make a couple of changes to this recipe. Most of the time I use sweet potato rather than carrots. My dog loves them. I microwave them in the skin. I am going to try canned pumpkin. I omit the rice because it causes my dog to have an upset tummy. Wish you the best!
I've watched several videos about making dog food and in rewatching this video, Dr. Jones' recipe calls for: 1# ground turkey 2 C. cooked brown rice 2 eggs 1/2 C. carrots 1 Tbsp sunflower oil per pound of animal protein 1/2 tsp eggshells=1000mg Krill oil tab. 1 cup to 1.5 cup per 20# body weight daily, divided. I've been making mine in larger batches and then freezing 1/2 of it in a freezer bag. I get about 1 week that way total. I have been using (combining other videos because of food allergies): My recipe: 1 Tbsp coconut oil in pan 3# ground turkey, cook then drain grease Remove to big bowl & add the rest & stir 1 cup cooked white rice (my dog seems to be allergic to brown rice) and now I"m thinking I'm not giving him enough of this No eggs (but I'm thinking about adding them now. I've been worried about his allergy to chicken, and he does seem to itch with scrambled eggs too, but he just seems to have so many allergies ). 1 pkg frozen chopped butternut squash (which now that I've increased to this amount he's itching & licking so much again after meals so I'm cutting it back & adding Zucchini instead which seems to be better) Some chopped kale (or spinach) a little broccoli/carrots/cauliflower 2 cans sardines packed in water, drained & cooked & chopped 2 tsp eggshells after cool 1/4 tsp turmeric curcurmin 1.5 Tbsp olive oil I WAS giving him 1.5 cups/day in 1/2 cup servings 3 times a day. He was doing fine for a while, itching better on homemade food. But he started losing weight, to the point of too much and his spine feels bony. I WAS giving small amounts of lamb liver, then he started losing weight and I realized about 1 month ago I wasn't giving enough liver. There's so much confusing info online & nothing solid. So I increased it to 2 tsp with each serving, and increased his feedings to 4 to 5 times a day, so I'm making his food more often now. Once I increased his lamb liver, he started itching a lot more. I changed it to Chicken liver, after running out of turkey liver & it's impossible to find turkey liver. I only have it when we make a whole turkey or my neighbor does. He does well with fish and turkey. He seems to be allergic to oats, sweet potatoes, brown rice, chicken, beef, now lamb. He seems to do better off legumes but I'm not sure of that. Definitely better off grains. I just added more white rice to his food & cut open one of my fish oil mini's 500mg & drizzled it over his serving. Not sure if I should be adding this every serving or once a day?? Also, if I triple the ground meat in Dr. Jone's recipe, do I triple everything? He only mentions having to increase the sunflower oil 1 T. per pound of meat. He doesn't say that about the eggshells, so maybe I've been overdoing them? Any feedback Dr. Jones has for me is much appreciated! I've got a call out to my vet, she will likely call me Sat AM but she's booked. I'm worried my dog is being malnourished in spite of my best intentions, or that he has cancer. I really want to make sure I'm giving him the best nutrients. I did order the supp from you and will start when it comes. Thank you so kindly! Faye
I love your recipes Doctor Jones thank you so much for everything you do to help us regular pet owners who love them and want to take better care of their health. Thank you for honoring all of God's creatures in each of your beautiful videos. God's Blessings to you and your loved ones.
I did this recipe for several months and ended up finding out that my dog is probably allergic to all poultry. As time went on the itching and licking became worse, and he started losing a lot of fur on his face. We quickly switched this recipe to lean ground beef and his face is almost completely back to normal, and the constant licking and scratching has lessened greatly. I find this quite ironic considering he’s an English Springer. My poor bird dog. Lol.
I was wondering the same thing. My pitbull is allergic to grains and chicken. I'm a little nervous to try turkey. I've been going crazy trying to find a food he can eat. The most recent commercial food I was giving him changed the recipe and added chicken fat. He was miserable until I realized what happened. I checked 4 places trying to find him food he wasn't allergic to. The 30 pound bags were $90-$100 each.. UGGHH, I'm thinking home made food would be a better option.
Refined omega 6 seed oils such as canola, soybean, corn, peanut, *sunflower* safflower, vegetable and rapeseed oil when consumed create inflammation. They are linked to lipopolysaccharide (LPS) which comes from the cell membrane of gram-negative bacteria.
Thank u for showing us how to care for our best friends. My friend is a 14yr old Docker, I've tried my best to feed him homemade meals his whole life. Thank u for showing about the egg shells. Going to include them in his future meals. God Speed Sir.
I add two cans of sardines, hemp seeds, kelp and don’t cook the eggs, just add to everything else, grind up one egg shell. I now buy chicken drumsticks, pressure cook for twenty min, strip, including the cartilage, steam pumpkin and mixed veggies, turmeric, cracked black pepper, garlic powder and ginger powder, my King Charles Cavalier 💓💓💓💓💓💓 IT! Her coat is gorgeous too 🥰
Thank you! I’m going to try this. My dog Charlie has been suffering with allergies for years and I feel I’ve tried everything! I finally recently put him back on Apoquel to calm the itching, but I’d really like to find and eliminate the CAUSE of his allergies, rather than just mask the symptoms with medicine.
N.Y. Gemini - my little mini poodle is like your dog. No matter what we try she still licks her paws all day and gets at her backside and base of her tail, and her ears itch so she scratches until she bleeds so we put her back on Apoquel. I don't like her on Apoquel but that's all we can do to give her some peace from itching. It's the only thing that works. My dog has severe separation anxiety and fear anxiety of everything, and can be aggressive if she is ill or frightened so it's easier for me at my advanced age and being wheelchair bound to go back to Apoquel. Not happy but the alternative is too difficult for me now.
@@dorothyradley9391 I have a very allergic little dog too. The key is to keep bathing them at least twice a week. You will probably smell the yeasty stinky smell on them and that's key to know they are having yeast overgrowth and need bathed. It may take a good month but you will see a difference. First I till the sink/tub with warm water and add a good amount of Ebsom salts...it is very therapeutic and healing, works...gentle soap and rinse. My dog has had horrible allergy since she went past a year of age. that's about average for it to begin. Apoquel is horrible...and so is cytopoint ...I tried both and did my research.,,it's a dead end and only masks. My baby is healing,,,no more meds, shots, or kibble. She sleeps with us and now we all sleep through the night. I can't stress the bathing enough...and Ebsom Salts soaks. You can use Aloe too is soothing for raw areas.
Thank you Dr Jones. I'm very very hopeful this will help my Little Thor's allergies. He is such a picky eater but if he's hungry I imagine he'll get to it.
Hey Doc, thanks for the video... just wanted mention since sunflower oil has about a 50% omega 6 content, it may be best to add the oil just as you feed to prevent oxidization and rancidity. Possibly add a bit of coconut during if needed instead.
Absolutely amazing I've got a little dog that's a little sick and I decided to make some homemade dog food I use brown rice ground turkey meat a little parsley and some yam I'm going to try your recipe also thank you so much it's working very well all my dogs love it and they seem to be acting better

Love your recipe! Close to what I make my 4 legged kids but sometimes I add parsley, thyme or oregano not all in the same meal. Sometimes I add unsweetened applesauce or pumpkin puree! And yes always keep n grind the egg shells for the calcium!! I also don't peel the carrots, the peel has concentrated vitamin C but I wash them and grate them n mix in their food uncooked...you have great advice!!! Thank you!! Made 2 turkeys for Thanksgiving and my kids had a delightful meal with unsalted chicken broth gravy and some fresh veggies!! Keep your great advice coming!!❤🐶
I know this is an old video but hoping you still read my comment. We have 2 large breed dogs (90-100 lbs each). One licks his paws & always has eye boogers especially during spring & summer (he's a pit/rottie mix) the other is having some bad allergies, since he was a puppy ( 1 1/2 yrs now) he's gotten bumps all over his body & also gets hives at times, ear infections, licks paws. The bumps have gotten really bad lately, they are covering his body (pitbull - American Staffordshire Terrier/American PitBull Terrier). They do eat dog food with chicken (chicken is in pretty much everything food related for dogs, hard to not get it even in food that says it has no chicken). We are trying to switch them to lamb dry food, but the kibble is small, and they don't like small kibble. So, if we make this meal, we would have to feed them about 5 cups a day each, right? We need to invest in a turkey farm, lol. Is there any other type of meat that we could also use besides turkey? We also made the allergy wipes from one of your other videos, only we couldn't find the antiseptic you suggested, is there another antiseptic you can recommend using? Also just got some beta-sitosterol, regular quercetin supplement. I know you answered me from another video about ivermectin, you suggested your quercetin supplement (yours is on back order) for if the dogs get that respiratory illness. I know that quercetin is an alternative to ivermectin. Ivermectin is used for dog's heartworm preventatives, so is ivermectin safe for dogs? Ivermectin helped my family when we got sick awhile back, so I know it works. Being I have some ivermectin already and if it's safe for dogs, I was hoping I could find out how to dose it if I needed to. Was considering giving it to them for their heartworm preventative instead of the other type of preventative, and if it helps keep them from getting that respiratory illness all the better. I'm just trying to find more natural ways/remedies for both us and our furbabies. Thank you for putting all this information out there for us, appreciate it!
@@thenannywoodforest98 Yes, I already know all about some breeds are allergic to ivermectin, I've actually seen it happen to one of our dogs who we would never have thought had a small amount of Collie in her, until the vet gave it to her. Since then we have all our dogs dna tested to see what breeds they are, and the two dogs we have now don't have those breeds with the MDR1 gene that has bad reactions to ivermectin. But thank you for the heads up, many don't know about this.
Thank you so much, Dr Jones! So great to see you thrive, you deserve the best! 🎉 I am a vegan (Biologist & Holistic Nutritionist), yet I feed this to my senior dogs. Brown rice, shredded carrots, eggs, sardines with the omega 3, cracked egg shells (will use the grinder next) & some additional herbs... What a relief to get your Professional validation on the brown rice, because I really am very careful with my dogs' Nutrition... I'm wondering how come they still have allergies... I'm now using Turmeric root & curcumine in their food & on their skin, as well as Aloe Vera... Grateful!!!
I do this recipe. I put it all in together with ground beef. I also dry my egg shells in the oven first . And I add in sweet potato and some chia seeds. I don’t use sunflower oil. Maybe a bit of olive oil she also gets fish oil.
I prepare khichdi for Jonny & sometimes I taste it too 😅 For those who haven't heard of it is a mix of veggies - boiled veggies - carrots, pumpkin, spinach, boiled rice, boiled chicken liver & hearts topped with turmeric and cilantro. It is very nutritious and my pup licks it up to the last morsel.
I have a poddle as well a little under 2 years and he's been dealing with skin allergies. I've tried many dog dogs to no avail of course! I hate the idea of giving apoquil. So I'm definitely thinking of switching him to home made dog food. Hoping for the best and the ty for this awesome video!
Thank you, I make my dog’s food using ground turkey, brown rice, green beans or carrots but I never added the eggs or sunflower oil. I will add these. And Omega
I tried using hardboiled eggs instead of scrambled in with turkey and my dog did not like it! I think it has something to do with the sulphur smell of the hard boiled eggs. She eats your version with no hesitation or reluctance though so thank you so much!
Thank you so much for your recipe. My golden has allergies - digestive disorders she is 17-years-old, and I have been cooking for her since she was a puppy. I use red Quinoa instead of rice in my recipes.
You could try different type of eggs? Try quail eggs maybe? Don’t know how difficult it would be to get those though. Although my dog is also allergic to chicken he seems to be ok eating chicken eggs 🤷♀️
Honestly, I noticed when the chemt****ls stopped for a couple of weeks that my dog’s allergies got better almost disappearing. Clear skies and clear tummy…
Wow, seems so simple! I’m curious what replaces organ meat, like liver. I make my dog’s food but this seems simpler and easier. Greatly appreciated, Doc!
I converted 7 dogs over to this from 12 weeks olds to 15 year olds. All of them are thriving on this recipe. Thank you! And does that taste like fried rice??

Doc, I was reading the other day and brown rice is hard for dogs to digest. We should use white rice the article said. It was a reputable source where I read it. The AKC maybe? You might want to research it although I'm sure brown rice won't hurt a dog. Love Tula! Adorable.
Thank you so much for posting homemade dog food recipes. I had no idea where to start but your videos make it easy to create healthy and balanced food for my dog.
I'm planning to start making my own dog food for my 2 dogs. They're both pretty itchy. I'm glad to see this recipe for a guideline. I will probably make it in my crockpot.
I don't give my dog any grains. She has very bad allergies, but is almost recovered and is doing well now that I have stopped giving her kibble and make her food. She is a good weight at about 12 lbs. My question is what would you suggest to replace the rice? I don't give her any grains. I give her fresh cooked red sockeye salmon, canned whole sardine in water, mixture of all types of organic veggies, yam, small measure amount of green muscle oil, tumeric, lemon balm, B12 high quality from Vimergy, zinc, mushroom extract powder, cats claw. So far so good. But I need to find out how much meat per her body weight she needs? I'm still not sure if I want to include egg in her diet. But I do want to make sure she's getting the calcium she needs so I wanted to order your supplement buy it's on back order now. Thank you
Great, great, great recipe, Doc!!!! We are killing our dogs by feeding them only, or mostly, commercial dog food, regardless of the 'said high quality' of same. Parents, physically write this recipe down right this moment and pin it on your fridge, to stay, regardless of whether you can make this recipe now or not. Otherwise, the odds are totally stacked against you ever doing so, regardless of the best of intentions to get back to your 'saved folder', etc., later. God bless.

Great recipe! My french bulldog has also been on a homecooked diet for about 5 months now, but her allergies haven't really seemed to decrease... Will definitely try this one out! How many percent of a single meal should be protein/fats/fibre/carbs? I've tried a couple different ratios, and the one she's one has made her quite lean with just about enough fat on her ribs as you would feel on clenched knuckles/fingers(is that about healthy?) Love all your videos! Have definitely saved me from distress when I thought something was wrong.

Thank you Dr Jones.... Shibu dogs ( aka Japaneses Akitta ) get diarrhea very easily if there is no rice or potato in their home made food ( my dog is a shibu and boy his digestive is v sensitive ) I usually dont roast his food ( turkey or meat ) but steam and give it with rice (usually brown but if he has a diarrhea then i give it with white rice )
I've been trying to stay grain free with my dog so no rice for us. Our latest creation included turkey+pork with broccoli, yellow squash and sweet potato
K Barnes Yeah nonwhite potato = too starchy can possibly be bad long term. Sweet potato I say once in a while but I’ve heard pumpkin is a little better, has good amount of potassium, just remember they are full of fiber which is good, just don’t make those type of carbs the majority of their food. I say like the other person no grains but if you do grains very little or occasionally, and in my opinion, sweet potato and pumpkin better than grains.
chinookvalley I though I heard potato skin is not good for dogs, but don’t know if it’s on white potatoes only. Either way, while potatoes may be a no-no bc they could be linked to the grain free issues from pet (kibble) foods linked issues with the heart (dilated cardiomyopathy) just because pet food industry lines to choose white potatoes as a cheap source of filler to substitute over rice and corn to say it’s grain free. Basically for anyone who reads this, just stay away from white potatoes for dogs for long term feeding. I lost my first dog this week, tried my best to fight her cancer this year feeding her the best food and giving her a really good CBD but she just had so many other health issues that just made fighting the cancer even harder. I can’t even explain how hard it is losing your first dog (even though I’ve been present over 3 dogs from the family passing through the years), so all I can do for now is keep trying to do my best for my other two dogs. Whatever you do people, whether you cook your dog foods, or do one of the raw dog diets, just STOP giving dry kibbles! Look up what’s wrong with the pet food industry (Rodney habib, Karen Becker, Kinberly all on you tube), and you’ll see what I’m talking about.
We feed our Golden Retriever Raw Turkey Patties which have a balance of turkey, ground bone and organ meat. Emma gets persistent allergies. I don't believe it is the food but perhaps other things that she is eating. She loves cookies but even tho' they are for dogs they may contain wheat. Perhaps we should stick to no wheat cookies, preferably home made. I tried your ear cleaner, coconut oil and ACV and she certainly didn't like it but if it helps, I will keep it up for the 7-10 days. Thank you so much for these great ideas.

I adopted a dog recently from the shelter and she was itching nonstop. I found your recipe and it’s been about two weeks and she has stopped scratching. Thank you so much.
For how long you did the recipe?
@@azulasbluefire9788 for a couple a weeks. I am putting the omega fish oil pill in the food as well every serving.
Thank you so much for caring for your dog in the best & loving way!!!
I've been feeding this recipe to my 2 dogs for over 2 weeks. I have a Maltese who's always licking with
discharge in corner of eyes, and a Chia who is Super Picky Eater!
After days of sorting through videos. FINALLY, A PROFESSIONAL!!!

I agree 100%
Agree. He saved my baby girl. ❤ It brings tears to my eyes to think how upset I was before finding him. She had a torn acl.
Agree!! ❤
I need a miracle for him. ty doc.
Did it work for you?
@sinny721 unfortunately, my boy passed away 10/2023. Nothing helped him. 😕
Much easier if you put it all in a baking pan and make a meatloaf , I've been making dog food for years and found this was the simplest was to do it. I use instant rice so I don't have to cook it. I use frozen butternut squash and sweet potatoes too.
Great tip!
Great idea.! Do you precook anything before adding it into the meatloaf.? I use carrots.
@@willowsoul3 just the rice if I don't use instant rice in which I just mix it in.

Thank you for your recipes
I told my doctor the other day I’m eating dog food , she nearly fell off her chair, I then of course told her, I’m cooking the foods Molly my dog can eat and we share, I just add onion separately to mine , was so funny

Oh sure, I’m gonna listen to some guy who just lets his dog walk around all over the countertops and anywhere else they want, then he eats their food! You damn right I’m listening to him! Love what you do for all our babies!!!
We don't have Turkey in S Africa.... What Can I use to substitute?
So glad your pup is thriving!❤😊 Question....did you get the Krill Oil supplements or just do the food recipe?
Love the thumb nail. The poodle said put the 🥄 spoon down.. 😊
We make something very similar to this, bit we cook the rice in a nice bone broth and add whatever meat we are cooking, apples or blueberries and sometimes a little greens and our dog loves it too. In fact, every time we cook rice for ourselves, she assumes it is for her and gets all excited. :)
Sounds great!
LOL! Tula looking over her shoulder when he eats her food! Too funny!

Thank you!

@@VeterinarySecretsolive oil or sunflower?
Thank you for this recipe
I made this recipe for my 3 dogs today. They loved every bite. Thank you so much for a healthy alternative. Pups enjoy homemade food so much!
Seed oils are highly processed. Use olive or coconut oil.
Good to know, thank you
@@VeterinarySecretsdoes the sunflower oil have something in it that this recipe needs? Or does the omega-3 provide that? Would it change anything by using a coconut oil or olive oil? I personally have allergic reactions to most seed oils...
Thank you so much for this recipe. My miniature schnoodle loves it and his allergies are improving. The best part of this video is watching you eat it and seeing Tula in the background. Adorable!
I have a mini schnoodle also that is itching like crazy! I am so excited to try this.
Jones' recipe calls for:
1# ground turkey
2 C. cooked brown rice
2 eggs
1/2 C. carrots
1 Tbsp sunflower oil per pound of animal protein
1/2 tsp eggshells=1000mg
Krill oil tab.
1 cup to 1.5 cup per 20# body weight daily, divided.
I've been making mine in larger batches and then freezing 1/2 of it in a freezer bag. I get about 1 week that way total. I have been using (combining other videos because of food allergies):
My recipe:
1 Tbsp coconut oil in pan
3# ground turkey, cook then drain grease
Remove to big bowl & add the rest & stir
1 cup cooked white rice (my dog seems to be allergic to brown rice) and now I"m thinking I'm not giving him enough of this
No eggs (but I'm thinking about adding them now. I've been worried about his allergy to chicken, and he does seem to itch with scrambled eggs too, but he just seems to have so many allergies ).
1 pkg frozen chopped butternut squash (which now that I've increased to this amount he's itching & licking so much again after meals so I'm cutting it back & adding Zucchini instead which seems to be better)
Some chopped kale (or spinach)
a little broccoli/carrots/cauliflower
2 cans sardines packed in water, drained & cooked & chopped
2 tsp eggshells after cool
1/4 tsp turmeric curcurmin
1.5 Tbsp olive oil
I WAS giving him 1.5 cups/day in 1/2 cup servings 3 times a day.

Just use the leanest low fat beef👍
@caraolemaas9162 so do you not use eggs either?
Refined omega 6 seed oils such as canola, soybean, corn, peanut, *sunflower*
safflower, vegetable and rapeseed oil when consumed create inflammation. They are linked to lipopolysaccharide (LPS) which comes from the cell membrane of gram-negative bacteria.
What oil do you prefer? Some say Salmon Oil and some say Coconut Oil. So confusing. Any help is appreciated!❤😊
The oil he’s using is coldpressed sunflower oil, I bought the same one at Walmart yesterday.
Not refined

The sunflower oil he’s using is cold pressed, not refined so it will be great.
You actually need omega 6 in your diet, dogs too. It’s the balance between omega3 and 6 that is important

Has this helped your pup? My dog is struggling with the same thing and we are stuck on the apoquel right now just for sanity sake.

Hey Doc, thanks for the video... just wanted mention since sunflower oil has about a 50% omega 6 content, it may be best to add the oil just as you feed to prevent oxidization and rancidity. Possibly add a bit of coconut during if needed instead.

Thanks!
I'm not a doctor, but some dog are highly allergic to Ivermectin. Please seek more prompt advice.

? I feed my babies a similar recipe. Is there a reason you fried the meat and boiled carrots separately instead of boiling at same time as rice. I’m going to ground shells and add omega. I also add a little of their Blue dog food for crunch.
Hi- no you could boil the meat as well. I prefer frying as there is so little fat, and then I can mix in the egg. Also makes it tastier.
@@VeterinarySecrets Ok. Thank you for responding.

Thank you Dr Jones.... Shibu dogs ( aka Japaneses Akitta ) get diarrhea very easily if there is no rice or potato in their home made food ( my dog is a shibu and boy his digestive is v sensitive )
I usually dont roast his food ( turkey or meat ) but steam and give it with rice (usually brown but if he has a diarrhea then i give it with white rice )
I've been trying to stay grain free with my dog so no rice for us. Our latest creation included turkey+pork with broccoli, yellow squash and sweet potato
Great option
@K Barnes Potato is a starch, but with it's skin it is supposed to be much more digestible.
Thank you so much for this! Would duck eggshells have the same nutrients/safe for my dog to eat?
LOL thanks for the great video🙏🏼‼️
Glad you enjoyed it
We feed our Golden Retriever Raw Turkey Patties which have a balance of turkey, ground bone and organ meat.
You’re welcome. Let me know how it goes.
dehydrate sweet potato slices for 2 or 3 hours at 250 degrees to get them super chewy for a NoWheatTreat
