    0.5 tbsp sunflower oil
    1 lb turkey
    0.5 cup chopped kale
    4 cup brown rice cooked
Serving 1 cup twice daily per 20 lbs of dog
Serve for 8 weeks. Swap out protein if allergy persists until you find the allergy.

Working like a charm. I have done so many homemade dog food and my dog never liked them. I really didn’t think he be eating this diet, but now he looks forward to meal time. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH! I substitute brown rice for quinoa as he never liked rice. It’s affordable too! BTW my neighbor dog comes up by me and I feed her the diet and now she won’t eat her regular food lol.

I am so thankful for your channel and expertise.
I recently got a silver lab 2 months ago. she is 4 months now. We didn’t know much about feeding a puppy so we went with Purina Pro plan- Chicken flavor and wanted to work our way to me cooking her meals 100%. She did not take well to the kibble as her itch began there. We suspected she might be allergic or have an intolerance to an ingredient in the kibble so I started my research.
I lessened the kibble amount and incorporated: chicken, turkey and beef with sweet potato, rice, broccoli. She was scratching non stop and even whining while scratching. She also began having diarrhea. It was getting worse.
She was clearly uncomfortable and allergic to something in either the kibble ingredients or the protein. She developed red spots on her chest and her armpit area which she scratched raw. I started the 1:1 ratio of apple cider vinegar and coconut oil like you mentioned in a previous video which helped! Made her own shampoo with Castile soap, green tea, and lavender oil like you mentioned in another video. The shampoo eased the itch a bit, but only temporarily. The itch continued and was beginning to take a toll on her sleep and ours.
Fast forward to 3 days ago when I found this video decided to do a complete reset on her food.
We threw away that junk Kibble, gave her aller-tec before sleeping to ease the discomfort and fed her only turkey, rice & sunflower oil for now (I’ll add veggies once her skin is fully healed). I eventually want to get away from the rice but that’s beside the point. In only 2 days time, her diarrhea was gone, her skin is healing and she isn’t scratching like before. I am so happy and she looks relieved for the first time since we got her!
Thank you so so much! My anxiety was beginning to skyrocket trying to figure out what was her deal and now we are seeing progress with this elimination diet. Eventually we’ll try other proteins. We suspect she was allergic to chicken, but only time will tell. We appreciate you Dr. Jones ♥️
Ps. You mentioned sticking to this for 8 weeks. Can I add the Bee Propolis to her diet in the mean time? Or wait it out?

Thank u, Dr. Jones, I have a 15 YO male Yorkie who is missing most of the black hair on his back. My vet says "no food allergies" but I wasn't sure. Now I remember that about 25 years ago I had another male Yorkie with the same problem. After lots of testing, etc., I took him to U of Davis Vet School to see the derm specialist there (Dr. Ihrke) and it turned out he had follicular dysplasia, "bald man's disease". Thank u for relieving my mind.

My baby Copper is 17 years old this year. Last year he had a inguinal hernia surgery that truly changed his immune system. Shortly after his long recovery, he started to develop what we thought were hot spots, but sadly even after the antimicrobial and antifungal shampoos and sprays the issue continued. Today, I got news from our vet that his skin test came back and read he had a Staph infection. Luckily, a week ago his fantastic vet team shaved his now large areas of infections and I was able to see his skin change immediately after he eats his 4 ingredient chicken wet food. I thought I was going nuts or just overthinking it. Folks, we had been given him more of the chicken recipes since he favored them most! Today I thought, well maybe it was the type of chicken they put in their wet food, so I made my own chicken, mixed it with green beans and chicken bone broth. Before he ate his skin was a normal beige color, but almost immediately after he finished his homemade organic greens, pasture raised chicken meal his shaved areas TURNED BRIGHT PINK/RED and BECAME SUPER HOT! It was the DARN CHICKEN! I knew it, I knew it had to be internal and moreover his diet. Yes he got a Staph infection because of the constant licking but we were just treating the symptom, not the root cause! I am not an expert at treating anyone other than furry baby but mine, however I had to share my experience for other pet parents to read. My furry baby has been with me for 17 years, he is walks well because we give him weekly laser therapy treatments, he eats the cleanest food we could find for dogs, and he is happy boy. I hope this story helps your furry family and tomorrow we will be making this recipe which is great because he loves ground turkey!

Love and persistence can move mountains...she came home curled around hubby in his hospital bed like she belonged beside him and he lit up....She now is part of our family ..she retrieves his dropped cell or pens...sometimes she will bring him a sock to write with😉 and she encourages physical therapy in that he will throw the ball from his weak side...Our house is happier..Birdie yes a dog named Bird has so many dog friends and so many who love her in our neighborhood...Our hearts always ache for those special 4 legged children who crossed the rainbow bridge...Maybe your new pup will choose you ..or you them..you and your heart will know when your ready...take care💝🙏🕊

Great video. Turkey seems like a great meat to try. I have a similar recipe but use Beef or Chicken or Wild Salmon for protein + one whole egg. I understand this video showcased a simpler diet to eliminate possible allergens. In my non-elimination homemade dog food, I will also add a pinch of pink Sea Salt (not much at all.) It helps him to better retain fluids and increase the palatability of the food. The only oil I will use is Olive Oil. The only alternates I might consider would be Krill Oil or Coconut oil- def. no other types of vegetible oils. For the veggies, I use Broccoli and Carrots- chopped very small. I prefer sweet potato over rice since almost all rice naturally contains some arsenic. Rice also converts to sugar too quickly (and is generally not good for teeth.) I also add 1/2 teaspoon finely ground egg shells per pound of food to ensure he is getting his very important calcium requirements. I cut way back on calcium if he is on anti-antibiotics as they block the absorption.

    • @UTAH100
      @UTAH100 3 роки тому

@@joza3077 You are wise to question. I acquired my information over years of researching, reading countless books and articles and watching more videos than I can count. I've tried and tested different approaches and have found what works and what does not. After a while, a pattern becomes clear. I have also studied nutrition on my own for several years and have very successfully used it to heal various issues. That said, I do not claim to be an expert and this is not advice. I have also consulted with many MD's and PhD's (including licensed nutritionists who like my approach.) Keep in mind that many doctors are not nutritionist. Often, at best, they take a class or two on it. For whatever reasons I don't pretend to know, they will be very quick to recommend preservative laden dry kibble (not Dr. Jones who I think is amazing.) In no way can kibble compete with what I feed my dog- not by a long shot. Moisture rich, primarily protein based, omega-3 fatty acid rich and human grade food makes for one happy and healthy dog. It's important to make sure it has the correct balance of vitamins and minerals. Calcium is important which is why I use baked egg shells crushed finely. If you do go this route, research it yourself to make sure your proportions are very accurate. You don't want for example too much calcium and too little protein. Once you have your formula down, it's really easy to make on a regular basis. I make enough to last him 2 weeks. Half does in the fridge and the other half in the freezer. When I run out, the night before, I put the frozen in the fridge. No harmful preservatives added! Organic is best. All fish must be WILD caught- this is very important. Also, when going moisture rich, do not neglect oral health. I brush my dogs teeth with a homemade- absolutely non-fluoride tooth paste.
In your case, you should consider seeking professional guidance e.g., a holistic vet. Your dog could have a serious skin condition. Also, if you use any citrus essential oils e.g., Lemon, they are photosensitive and when exposed to sun can create the issues you are describing. I use an essential oil formula that I make as a way to help control ticks. My go-to ticks spray.

Turns out it's a chicken allergy, and now he'll break out in hives he gets even a trace amount. Removing all chicken in any form (watch out for tocopherols) has him fit and fine. For flare up days from seasonal allergies, we give apoquel, and he was wearing a filtration mask even before it was hip.

Is an all plant diet really good for dogs, especially if they hate it? Are there any poultry/fish/meat options you could do an allergy test with?
Consider ruminate meats. Ruminants include cattle, sheep, goats, buffalo, deer, elk, giraffes and camels. These animals all have a digestive system that is uniquely different from our own. Ruminants are herbivorous grazing or browsing artiodactyls belonging to the suborder Ruminantia that are able to acquire nutrients from plant-based food by fermenting it in a specialized stomach prior to digestion, principally through microbial actions.
These are the meats, especially Beef, that are used in Human elimination diets to see what foods you react to as you add them back in. Perhaps one of these along with the other ingredients the Vet is recommending would help you figure out the best way to feed your fur babies.

  • @canidconsulting5118

Doc, someone asked about IBS. In primitive and working breeds, we've identified something called EFS, enterococcus faecium sensitivity. EF is a super robust staph family bacterium added to food, supplements, treats, etc, as a probiotic. In some dogs, it mimics an absorption disorder, marked by voluminous milkshake consistency almost frothy diarrhea, alopecia, weight loss, and overall poor thrift. Ites essentially giving the dog a chronic GI bacterial infection, and can be difficult to Dx as treatments like metronitazole or pancreatic supplements will help in the short term, but the condition flares as soon as treatment stops, but it can be hard to put all the pieces together.
It seems few US vets are aware of this, but many overseas and UK vets are informed. Food manufacturers actually remove it from food sold outside the US. Are you familiar with this issue and can you offer any comment?
The treatment we use is to correct EFS is a round of metronitazole and alban while simultaneously removing all EF from the diet. If someone is really fond of a particular brand, they can inquire about purchasing stock meant for Europe that may not have EF. Once treated and understood, the dog thrives, then all one has to do is be diligent about checking labels, even on "safe" foods, as it could show up in a formulation at any time. Would you have other recommendations?
(Note: For primitives and working breeds like huskies, malamute, GSD, etc, we tend to just avoid it altogether as it's so often a problem. Why some dogs are affected and others not isn't completely clear, but in general, EF is too robust for an already efficient and more primal gut and GI flora.)

I read in some sources you should start to see improvement in 2-3 weeks ? In case of my dog I’ve seen no improvement in itching in food trials so I’m thinking it might have another cause

Hi Dr. Jones. I’ve come to your videos many times and today it was as a result of looking up info on food intolerances. My miniature poodle, Toula (almost name twins), has a sensitive stomach. She was on zignature’s kangaroo formula after lots of research as a result of diarrhea every couple of weeks. Once she got on the zignature we didn’t have the issue again.
Then a year ago she had to have surgery for bladder stones. The vet put her on royal canin hydrolyzed protein. They insisted that she must continue on this diet because she now will have a tendency to develop the stones again. It seemed that most people I spoke with said the same thing.
Well, now I think we might be dealing with the same issue. I thought at first she got into something outside. Did bland diet of white rice and boneless skinless chicken breast. Went back to the royal canin, she was fine for a couple days, then diarrhea again. So again rice, chicken and then some canned pumpkin. Went longer before adding kibble again. Stools firmed up and she was fine a few days then back to diarrhea. At this point I really don’t want to give her the royal canin again. I would have zero problem cooking her food but I am worried about the vet’s warning about bladder stones. Please help 🤍

Do you think it would be ok to use rabbit as I am rather stuck for a novel protein to use with my dog. He has had rabbit in the past but very little and was about 7 years ago. Presumable he wouldn’t have developed an allergy to it. I can get raw ground rabbit ok. The only other food I can use is dry raw, but I am a bit concerned about it as it is 70% goat and 30% parsnip and also has seaweed lime and seaweed in it which basically has carrageenan init……also it’s dry which I am not keen on, and the parsnips are high glycemic index which I would not normally give him. So I thought maybe the rabbit was a better choice then I can add some green veg. I don5 give mine carbs. Thanks.

QUESTION: is it really alright to be giving 4 cups of rise to 1 cup of meat ratio? It seems that it would be mainly rise in this recipe vs your other suggestive ratios. Currently I’m using a ratio that you suggested in one of your videos of 50% meat protein, 25% veggies and 25% carbs. I am, however, planning to do an elimination diet due to bad skin reaction, so would love to know what would be the safest recipe for my pup. Thank you.

He said it was 2 cups of meat/kale together after cooking, but that's still 2/3 carbs by mass. However, since ground turkey has both fat and protein, if you do the math it comes down to about 40% calories from carbs.

So, then, is this a constant recipe to feed my dog forever? Or is this just to right the dog's metabolism; and then, what to feed after that? Maybe I'm not getting it.... Do we make this with different meats? The dog I have now since Aug came with a terrible fungal infection and mite ear infection... and now, I'm still dealing with this rashiness and itchiness... just as I seem to get it under control; it pops up again... and it's not fleas, or grain, but I think it must be yeast oriented; or the meat is too acidic, such as red meat. I am now giving him a probiotic, and his ears are clearing up... but, he chews himself around his loins and he now has hot spots.... and inflammation.... so, I am thinking that perhaps the red meat is too rich... I am definitely going to try this recipe....However, if he does well with this, is this something I can feed him from now on? Usually, I give him just meat and then a couple of times a week I'll give him some fresh veggies ( only carrots, broccoli, and he loves fresh squash out of the garden) and brown rice as a side dish.... I just hope he eats it, as he doesn't really care to eat veggies or rice everyday... once or twice a week is o.k..... He noticed she was red under the arms and all of her belly, but he didn’t say what it was and he didn’t say anything really about it. And then a couple of days later I had to take her back because your ears were all red and she end up with a yeast ear infection. He gave medication and ear drops, but the redness upper body is still there. But I don’t see any signs of her really scratching and itching and licking the way that you say a dog would if they had food allergies. It might not just be food allergies, she might have environmental allergies also, and these CAN be accurately tested for using either a blood serum allergy test or intradermal allergy testing. If you are already doing a food trial you should either talk with your regular vet about environmental allergy testing or see if there is a veterinary dermatologist in your area who can do skin testing.
Unfortunately, there is no cure for allergies, but if you can figure out what the allergies are there are steps you can take to mitigate her allergic reactions, including allergy vaccines.
