I have this gun with the lasermax attached. It's a 10 in my opinion. Everyone complains about the long trigger pull, if you practice like you're suppose to with your firearm you become use to it. I've not had one issue with this gun and I've shot 450 rounds through it in about a year and a half. I have comfortable range guns also and I've had some sort of malfunction at some point with all of them. I trust this gun with my life and my family's. To each there own, but this is my experience and thoughts

I have one these guns, and I really like it. It takes getting use to all the safety features. There is an extended magazine available. It also has a built in key lock, that locks the gun, and it can not be fired unless it is unlocked with a key. It also has a view indicator, that indicates weather there is a round in the chamber alone with the pop up indicator.

Check out the LC 380 also, I bought one last month. It is identical to the LC9 but chambered in 380 of course.

Your review is right on! The LC9 was not available when I went shopping for a light pistol. I had an experience with a lady attempting to rob me when pumping gas. I was able to thwart her attempt by pretending that I had a pistol also. I had left my CZ pistol at home because of the weight. The next day I bought an LCP .380.

That's what I thought when I bought mine. I love this gun. I have never had an issue with it, and it's extremely easy to use and fire. A spy would love it too.

I have a Ruger LC9 and use it for my summer time EDC. Mine is accurate with everything I have shot through it. It really loves 147gr +P HST. 400 rounds with zero malfunctions. After shooting mostly Glocks the trigger does take some getting used to. It has a very long but smooth trigger pull much like a double action revolver.

This is a great handgun and if the trigger pull and reset function is an issue for you, there's improvement kits that greatly improve the trigger. The trigger pull is reduced by half, and the quicker reset allows for much faster shooting, and greatly improves accuracy that is often lost with long trigger pulls. Galloway Precision has parts including videos on how to install them with no modification to the frame. Their upgrades turn a great gun into a freaking awesome gun.

    • @closer71
      @closer71 Рік тому

Yeah, the Galloway trigger kit is incredible. It takes this amazing subcompact to the next level. Gorgeously smooth and short trigger pull with a wider and flatter trigger face. This single modification ($75) and the optional 8+1 magazines make the LC9 the best concealed carry 9mm in the world, in my opinion.

The Safety can actually EASILY be removed from the weapon when you field strip. Removing it wont hinder the operation of the Weapon in any way.

  • @aphidreiter

Snappy is an understatement. I was all over the place with it at 10 yards. I kept everything on paper but that was it. The slide release won't engage unless you pull back on the slide with your of hand so if you have to operate the gun one handed you are screwed. This gun is marketed as an introductory carry gun however it is hard to operate and inaccurate. In a fight you would have a better chance towering it at the guy. I am going to practice with this POS to see if I can make it work. I do

Lc9s pro takes everything good about this gun and keeps it, then gets rid of everything bad. Has a wonderful trigger, no stupid mag disconnect, no safety. Probably the best slimline 9 on the market imho

Yah, it's true, Ruger copied Kel Tec on both the LCP and the LC9, but that is the marvel of industry. They really are putting out some excellent firearms. My LC9 is my EDC in a White Hat Max Tuck and I love it. Absolutely NEVER leave it at home. Spare mag in your pocket and you're ready to go. Once you get used to the trigger and get a couple hundred rounds through it it smooths over a lot compared to it out of the box. I'm more accurate with my LC9 than I ever was with my P95.
    LOVE my LC9!

Just got one of these and I like it . I don't mind the loaded chamber indicator like some folks, but the mag disconnect has to go. Hit the mag release by accident and you are left with, not a one shot pistol as it should be, but a very short club.

If you are looking into getting a Galloway Precision 35% shorter stroke trigger kit DO NOT do it!!
I ordered one for Father's Day this year and installed it myself (the pin on the LCI is a BEAR to remove). The installation seemed to go just as described on Galloway Precision's website instructions. I dry fired it and it cycled fine, however, since I noticed the installation video mentions using the newer 322 + firing pin, I ordered that by GP's recommedation and installed it upon arrival.
A few weeks later I went down to a local range and put about 6 mags through it and suddenly it stopped working. So, I brought it home and tried figuring out what had happened. I was able to see that the hammer catch was not coming forward enough to allow the hammer to hit the firing pin. It would only make it back to it's neutral position.
I contacted GP for a second time and they advised me to modify the trigger bar myself (IF YOU DO ORDER A KIT, THIS IS WHERE YOU SHOULD STOP. THEY ARE CLEARLY AWARE OF A LACK OF QUALITY CONTROL ON THIS PART AND WANT FOR YOU TO FIX IT YOURSELF). I bent the tab down on it as they asked, but the problem got even worse. So, I thought bending it in the opposite direction would help the problem. However, in trying to open the tab back up the trigger bar broke.
At this point I contacted them (GP) again and they told me they would only send out a new trigger bar to me if I shipped an undamaged trigger bar back to them. I don't know of any company that would ask you to modify something, have the consumer pay for the shipping on a defective return, or hold you accountable for damaIf you are looking into getting a Galloway Precision 35% shorter stroke trigger kit DO NOT do it!!

So, I thought bending it in the opposite directionges that were done by doing what they advised (modifying the trigger bar).
The gunsmith who handled my email then proceeded to reprimand me for expecting a return for a part that I damaged (even though the damage was done trying to correct their lack of having the appropriate bend on the trigger bar) and stating that they do not have a quality control problem. I differ in opinion since they quickly knew how to "correct" the problem and said "the policy on returns is in place due to the fact that people would not follow our directions to the letter, and damage their trigger bar and expect a free replacement." So, I am definitely not the first to go through this problem.
The kit did improve the feel of the gun quite a bit. I was having a bit of trouble honing in, but an accompanying friend was shooting 2" groups from 5-10 yds. However, Galloway Precision's lack of taking responsibility on damages occuring due to trying to correct their lack of precision manufacturing has led to the creation of this review. This gun is clearly a conceal carry weapon, not a range gun. So, do yourself a favor and keep it reliable by keeping it stock and, in my opinion, steering clear of Galloway Precision altogether.

You miss one safety. The LC9 also has a firing pin safety similar to the old Colt series 80 safety so that even if you drop it on concrete, it won't discharge without your finger on the trigger.

You should be looking at the Ruger LC78. Shoots .500 magnum. 30 round magazine. Best ergonomics out of any firearm i have ever held.

It comes in at 1.1 ounces with a loaded magazine.

I think James Yeager said it best. "If someone is going to kill me with my own gun; it will be due to them beating me to death with the gun...cause it will be an emptied gun." If anyone is concerned about getting there taken from them, they need to consider paying for some training courses. And if thats not an option, then just don't carry a firearm...period.

I have the LC-9 it's the best hand gun I ever carryed I'm a cautious person so I love the safty features. It did take about 400rds before I got a good feel for the gun and it's trigger pull. After that I can easly punch bulleyes at 30ft! this gun is so easy to carry. There are not many 9mm guns that you can pocket carry but this one is well suited it is less than an inch thick and fits in a black hawk pocket holster without printing just looks like a slight bulg in my pocket.

There were 3 things prompted me to buy this.
No sharp edges or corners, really smoothed off. Not going to print as much as others.
Long and heavy trigger pull. I can pull most of the way and hold, then pull the rest to fire. Under duress of an actual need to defend, this I feel, is a good feature.
3rd, I am a Ruger guy through and through. Although I have recently been exposed to real fine arms that are not Ruger.
This gun is not really fun to shoot, compared to heavier 9mm guns. But it will conceal better than almost anything and have real knock down power.

I have the LC9, nice gun. Feels good to grip and shoot. Trigger isn't bad at all but I have other DAO guns. The only problem I have switching between SA and DA guns at the range. The gun is very good gun for what it's supposed to be a concealable self defense weapon.

My wife has one of these, some problems I have with it is you have to insert s key to tear the gun down. Very long and hard double action trigger. I also think they could have simplified it more by doing away with the loaded chamber indicator and the safety is still as hell. These safety "features" are not on most guns and I think people should rely on one and only safety. Their finger

I had an LC9 and EDCd it for about 8 months. It was amazingly accurate for such a small gun, and the long DA trigger makes it feel very safe to carry. I stopped carrying it and sold it because the magazine release kept dropping the mag while it was holstered. That, combined with the magazine safety, made the gun unsafe for me to carry, IMO. I now carry a Springfield XDs.

My girl carries this pistol and she loves it! It's definitely a good personal defense weapon for any lady who doesn't know or is unsure of what she wants to carry. The size is perfect and the grip is not bulking for smaller hands. I would recommend this pistol for any lady who is still looking for the right one to carry. Don't worry about the nay-sayers in regards to its 9mm caliber. Load Personal Defense/hollow point 9mm ammo and it will do the job.

I am glad you addressed the fact that the LC9 is a PF9 clone. This is a gun I looked hard at for my concealed carry, then I shot it and I did not like it at all. I actually thought it was snappier than the PF9. I settled on the Ruger LCR in .357 but carried .38 +P in it and it shot like a dream, great trigger also. The LC9 is the only Ruger handgun I have fired that I don't like.

To each their own, I guess. I don't like DAO pistols. PT709 is my daily carry. First thing I did when I got it was to strip and clean it (lots of grease packed in there) and since then it has never had a FTF, FTE, nothing. The short trigger reset means my follow ups are much more accurate. When I was looking, I was going between it, the PF9 and LC9 (single stack 9mm) but wound up with the Taurus, and no regrets.

Nice review. Besides the magazine safety I have one little gripe that is lawyer induced: "LOADED WHEN UP". Putting the merits of the loaded chamber indicator aside, is the writing really necessary? In 10 or 20 years there won't be a square mm on a handgun not covered in some kind or warning or explanation.

I like the looks, aesthetic, and lack of a manual safety on the PF9. I like the Ruger's lack of being a Kel-Tec on the LC9. The trigger kinda sucks on both. The LC9 is a better gun than a PF9, but I still don't think it's an awesome choice when things like the M&P Shield and Glock 43 exist.

Correct and that is why this is chambered in 9mm and not 40S&W. If engineering allows it and the market demands it then maybe there will eventually be an LC40. Either way it will be similar to a Khar with only 5 or 6 rounds in that caliber which starts to get into the world of revolvers.

No, it wouldn't be my first thought...In fact, I have been in that situation, and it definatly is not my first or second thought... But not ever one is strong enough, or cabable of keeping an attacker from over powering them and taking their weapon...It may be an option at that point, and could give you a precious few seconds to seek other options to protect yourself....And my guess is that you have never been in a situation were someone takes your weapon from you...

I had one with the laser and it was very reliable and easy to carry but the trigger was just too hard and I wont carry anything that I cant hit a 6inch target with at 10 yards. The grip was so small that even with medium sized hands the trigger broke past my point of most leverage and control. It was impossible to squeeze off a round. It always did fine with a quick pull but that made it pull off target.I dry fired this think a 1000 times and the trigger pull still felt gritty

I got mine for $300.00. I love this gun for carry. Either I'm getting used to thr revolver-like trigger, or it's smoothing up with use. After 5oo rnd.s my groups at 21 feet are getting smaller.Nice review.

great gun, i just need more trigger time, but a friends first time with the lc9, at10 yards put 4 rds. damn near on top of each other on the bullseye, that's when i decided to keep it. just waiting on ammo to free up so i can get back to business (range work that is) had trouble uploading the pic. but i will post it as soon as i figure out what i'm doing wrong

Very good review. I’ve been a revolver shooter for a long time and am looking at autos now. This is a good, I think, objective review. You should be a Ruger factory rep.
    Well done and thank you.

The manual safety, I never use since it has a long trigger. I only use the manual safety for my 1911 because if you breathe wrong on that trigger it'll go off, lol. Not the case for the LC9. What I REALLY don't like is the magazine lock-out... Part of a tactical reload is that you can always crank out that round in the chamber if you're in the middle of the reload if you need to. With this, you can't until you reinsert a magazine... Very stupid...

    Mr. Noir,
I've recently purchased a KelTek P-11 in 9mm. The standard mag that came with the firearm has a 10 round capacity, but the company offers 12 Round Mags as well. Have you experience or opinions on KelTek's P-11 series firearms?

Its great to know, its features for concealed carry. That's a good gun for women to carry. Safety features. Thanks for a great video.

I'm leaning more towards the Taurus Slim 9. It has a single action trigger pull after the round is chambered.

I have not looked much at the LC9 mostly because I have the Kel Tec. I am a big fan of the LCP though and also the LCR. I guess I really dont like all the safety features considering that it also has a long double action trigger and I mostly carry the LCP because it is so light and comfortable. I keep it in my front pocket all the time outside and in and around the house and do not even notice it.

Not a big fan of double action only, but I've heard that the "average" defensive situation in the streets happens within 3 seconds with 3 shots fired at a distance of 3 feet. Not sure how true that is, but the LC9 would seem to be a good choice in a situation like that. Even my cross-eyed Uncle Jimmy could hit something at 3 feet using double action only.

Pf9 has a better trigger, and an accessory rail... Both purchasing points that make the difference for me. Not to mention the $100 price difference.

Very good review! one question, how does the LC9 handle recoil in comparison to the M&P Shield or the Kahr?

There is no decocker on the LC9. It is double action only, so the hammer is never locked back in a "cocked" position.

Great great video! Is this gun the same model that also comes with the laser function? Is there much of a difference in that version of the gun? Thanks

This gun is meant to carry, and a long trigger is an asset with a carry weapon. I don't want my carry gun to have a short hair trigger, because if I'm ever in that situation, I'm probably going to be jumpy, lol. I suppose that's why my carry gun is a SA/DA .357 revolver.

I bought a Bersa 380cc, which is basically the same dimensions as the LC9. Mine has feed issues and I'm definitely leaning toward a revolver now. My problem is finding a light/small revolver that can still be accurately shot. My bersa is a DA trigger so it's much easier than a revolver. What's your best recommendation on small revolvers? I work in an office so slacks make printing an issue.

i took me a while to get use to the trigger pull as well, just keep practicing! also i noticed after about 300-400 rounds i finally was able to "break it in" and it seemed as though the trigger pull got easier, but maybe i'm just getting use to it!
