I quitted to protect my hair at night, a part from using a satin pillowcase. If I put my hair in a bun, my roots hurt, and if a put something around my head, I feel it too hot. 🤷♀ Anyone else? 😅
I can't do silk pillowcases or hair bonnets. I am a hot sleeper and silk isn't cool enough for me. I end up doing a sort of pineapple thing but I've ceased to stress over frizz from sleeping. My products help to keep my hair pattern enough so when I brush it (wavy hair perk), it looks pretty still.
Same here, scalp hurts from keeping it up, and i cant handle a bonnet or anything really wrapped around my head cus then it annoyes me and makes me warm. oh well.. 🤷♀️😅
It took some perserverence and dedication to get fully comfortable tying a hair scarf for bed. (like a couple months of practice) At this point I can get it on pretty consistently the first time and can sleep on it well. The hair is fully covered but I have to place the scarf flat on the bed, place the curls on it, and leave my head down while I tie it. The biggest factor to keep it from sliding off is to have it go over my ears. My husband thinks it looks weird and I can't wear my glasses while it covers my ears, but it has been the most consistent way to protect my curls overnight without overly stretching them.
I was put on a cpap machine about 2 years into my “curly hair journey” and I was so worried about how it was going to affect my “overnight hair”. I have shoulder length hair. I put half of it up in a “pineapple” with a silk scrunchie” and then use small clips to clip up the bottom pieces and then I put on a silk bonnet that is adjustable. I have worked out how to put my cpap mask on just right so my “pineapple” is not disturbed. I also sleep on an incline pillow to decrease my apnea episodes and to relieve acid reflux, so I bought a silk scarf and wrapped it around the part where I lay my head. It has been working great! Shesh 😮 what we ladies go through to look our best, right?
The bambonn work so well for me. I got one a couple of months ago after trying all these same options as you tried and it’s miles ahead for me. I still use the silk pillowcase I bought and this stays on all night and I really don’t have to do too much in the morning. They sell out pretty quickly when she releases them, but if anyone was thinking about one, I’d really recommend it :)
When I did try an overnight hair protection I had flat hair in the morning,& it took me a few days for my wavy curls to return. Therefore, my fragile wavy curls only get a satin or silk pillow case. ☺️
I got my hair cut pretty short a couple weeks ago, it’s a bit shorter than yours, and I haven’t been able to put it up at night. I needed this video. Thank you ☺️
Wow! Great results! I will need to try those products! Since I cut my hair shorter, I don’t sleep with any time of protective style. Just me, my hair, and my silk pillowcase. I refresh every day because I don’t like my curls all stretched out into waves. I recently used the Eva NYC hairspray on my curls and I didn’t have to refresh at all the next day. That was a surprise!
Courtney you are HILARIOUS! The before and after photo has been swapped and the curlfriend collective scrunchie going over your forehead in a loose ponytail just made me laugh so much!
I tried the bonnet and it nearly cut my circulation off. Tried the silk scarf but it slides right off. It's too short to pineapple it so I just sleep on my silk pillow cases. I'm working a lot so I'm on day 4 hair. It's just now looking pretty stretched out. Today is wash day though. I bought the Next of Us shampoo, conditioner and gel. It is a game changer for my hair. I used the Curlsmith Air dry on it too and it stayed for 5 days and looked as fresh as it did on day 1. Great definition too. Just slept on a silk pillow case to protect it too. Impressive because I work outside in Florida heat. My hair loves this!
I also have a head shape where nothing stays on and I found out it's because, like you, I try to push back the bonnet/scarf/everything above or below my ears. What works the best is to have it stop mid-ears and on the middle of the forehead.
Video suggestion. What is your go to clarifying routine these days? What is your favorite clarifying shampoo/shampoos? My favorite way of overnight hair protection is a silk/satin bonnet. It does stay on my head.
Not Courtney but my favorite clarifying shampoo is Palmer's Micellar Rose Water. Micellar removes gunk without stripping and the Rose Water smells wonderful.
Our hair is similar enough that it makes me a wee bit jealous that you have the soft waves and mine are more 3A. I also have low porosity hair, even though I've been coloring my hair for 55 years. Yes, 55 years. I started in Jr High - my Mom is also a Libra so I think she got my need to be blonde. Anyway, your hair turned out beautifully, very natural. I have NOU's Leave In Conditioner but I generally use it for refreshing (along with half a dozen others that I've collected in my short time of exploring curly hair)! I hadn't really thought to further explore the line but definitely will now. Thanks again for helping the curl community out so we don't have to keep buying things that just won't work, and can look into the things the might.
My curly hair is very fine and my head is very sensitive but I have to use different clips. I put my hair up in a pineapple and try different clips until it doesn’t bug me. If I brush style my hair and get some ringlets I’m hoping the clip doesn’t wreck them. I do put my bangs in Bobbie pins to keep my top from going flat. Growing up my grandmother made us silk bonnets and I never realized it kept my hair really clean, but wearing bonnets now bugs me. My thoughts and prayers are with you as you looked like you were in pain during making this video. Love your channel. ❤
Personally I just put my hair into two lose buns (because I have a lot of layers) and put a satin bonnet over it. The things about bonnets through is some of them can be kind of uncomfortable, you definitely have to find the right one for you lol
I can’t do the silk scarf- it’s such a pain! But about the pineapple, my hair is about the same length as yours, so I have not tried that method because it’s too short. I was wondering if you’ve ever tried using two scrunchies, one for the bottom part and one for the top part?
Use the pineapple technique myself. Also have the back flyaways and thought that there was nothing for me until I found the Only Curls pineapple protector. It's almost like a half buff where the back and sides of your head are protected by the expanded back of the headband. I also tuck the parts of the pineapple that are up into it now as well and it really cuts down on the frizz. I also find that things fall off my head but with the pineapple protector i actually have it tucked under my ears which has two benefits keeps it on my head and slightly muffles my husband's snoring 😅
Hi Courtney. I use a bonnet with satin pillow cases. I put my hair up in a pineapple and then add the bonnet. What about trying a 1/2 pineapple as you have shorter hair and then use the bonnet. It might help.
I can image all the people in the wavy hair group I am part of ranting about how these products are not geared to wavy hair and will not be good for you in the long term. I would love to hear you speak to those thoughts, because I really want to try these products now.
I have the exact same problems with both the buff and the BamBonn, which I was also so excited to get, they slide forward off the back of my head, headbands do too. My theory is that since I have wavy, healthy and very fine hair, my hair is quite smooth and slippery so there is nothing for any of these things to hold on to, so to speak, and that’s why they slide up. I’m finding the same happens with bonnets as well unless I bobby pin them right at the nape of my neck but I find that both pulls my hair and hurts when I lay in on. I have been pineappling my hair but it stretches out the back real bad, so this wash day I’m trying just leaving it down and laying my hair over the top of my pillow, I always use a silk pillow case. The first night went well, just some water refreshing as usual.
One drugstore request. I know you have recommended the Cream of Nature Argon Oil max hold styling snot. I am curious about the other cream of nature products available in the local stores.
I want to try a buff or that BamBonn, because I feel like the pineapple stretches my waves out too much. I typically just drape/fan my hair over my pillow, but I know it’s not ideal.
I use a bonnet on the day before washday (or if i don't care what my hair looks like the next day 😂). I agree that the pineapple preserves volume/curls better, but I have to put it on the exact right spot or it pulls on my scalp even if it's loose. But if it's a cold night I'll do a pineapple and put a bonnet on top, then it gets that short layer in the back as well.
My hair is shorter than yours and the only thing that protects my hair at night is the Scrunch it Breathe cap which gathers all my hair up like it’s in Medusa clips. Only need to slightly spritz and put a little mousse in am. And I’ve tried everything. I do use a silk pillowcase as well.
Love your videos!! You always make me smile!! Ive tried the bonnet method, it reminds me of my childhood ❤, My Beloved Grammy, wore a white bonnet with sweet heart pink roses on it to bed and slept on a satin pillow case. The bonnet makes my waves/curls wonky, I also use a silk scrunchie, i know the silk pillow case is best for my hair and skin but it makes me sweat and wakes me...look out girls the golden yrs are not always so golden 🤣 ❤ Hugs Courtney your friend Mrs Tj, from the Heart of Missouri 🩷 sure Trust you are feeling ok and your hands are not hurting 🙏
I’ve tried the buff and satin bonnet, but have the same issues as you (we basically have the same hair and maybe same shaped head? 😂). Now I also use a scrunchie like you, but my current struggle is having a c-Pap mask strapped to my head 🙃 It is what it is lol.
I thought about trying the Buff but I'm a super active sleeper too. The BamBonn looks cool and I might have to try it. I currently keep trying bonnets because I can't do the pineapple....I have tried and I either get a headache or it falls out. 😂 At this point I'm just coming to terms with having my hair look bonkers after wash day and having to refresh it consistently.
I've tried everything. I can't stand my head covered when I sleep. I'm too hot natured, not even a scarf. Still and loose pineapple with a silk scrunchie on top of my head. Sometimes I live dangerously and just pull it up off the back of my neck and lay it over my silk pillow case. (I sleep on my back).
I found a bonnet on Amazon that’s more like a beanie and it’s adjustable which is huge for me because I have a tiny head and the bonnets tend to fall off my head.
Oh really? What's it called? I'm always looking for new bonnets. I still can't seem to find the right way to put it up though. Tried Medusa clipping, the pineapple (big fat no) and just sleeping with it down, and I always wake up looking like a swamp hag 😂
I have sleep apnea. Like Betty Davis said, old age is no place for sissies. This is relevant b/c my respiratory mask has straps to hold it on that go behind my neck and over the top of my head. I have tried to come up with ways to work around the situation with poor success. I even tried pig tails instead of a pineapple. Something will work eventually. And pigs might fly.
I also use CPAP. I put the hair towards the front of my face in a pineapples and then put a satin bonnet on. This protects all of my hair from the CPAP straps.

There was a youtuber here who was just using claw clips to put her hair up and I did the same when I had shorter hair.
I don’t bother anymore. I just clip it back and use a satin pillow case.
satin bonnets make me sweat

I’m still working it out. Glad to know it is possible though. Thanks for sharing.
I’ve been trying to figure out how to protect my hair while using a cpap and I haven’t found any one talking about it. Excited to try this

Your hair looks so shiny and healthy with this product line.
I used to love my bonnet, but now the dreaded menopause hot flashes have begun...so now its a scrunchie and silk pillowcase and hope for the best lol

I’ve tried many scarfs, bonnets, etc and keep going back to “Medusa clipping” - about 4-5 medium claw clips on top of my head.
I’ve tried the buff and satin bonnet, but have the same issues as you (we basically have the same hair and maybe same shaped head? 😂). Now I also use a scrunchie like you, but my current struggle is having a c-Pap mask strapped to my head 🙃 It is what it is lol.

You need to try a Bambonn, could not live without
I've tried everything. I can't stand my head covered when I sleep. I'm too hot natured, not even a scarf. Still and loose pineapple with a silk scrunchie on top of my head. I bought one from. Amazon that’s like a beanie but is not adjustable. Your sounds much better. I am working on adding some elastic to the one I have.
Also, what’s Medusa clipping?
Is there a video I need an explanation on high/low porosity and the categories of hair curl 3a what now?
I love my bambon buff, it doesn’t always work for me. I’m generally a pineapple, silk pillowcase girl.
Courtney, what made you finally realize you had wavy/curly hair?
Can you try moonstoneseven satin sleeper? She’s a wavy hair gal too…
Love your videos. Really helpful. Thank you
Thank you!

😩Ugh so sorry! I minimally would try using a silk pillow case then!
I also use CPAP. I put the hair towards the front of my face in a pineapples and then put a satin bonnet on. This protects all of my hair from the CPAP straps.
I joyful like to see your impression about my curly way brand.
All of their products are out of stock on the website. Where do you get them?
@@teri2466 I get a sample for one wash day and i was like it but a full sizes expensive for me.
You’re not the only one who has problems with those silk hair wraps. I don’t even bother anymore.
Good video. Your before and after photos are swapped after scrunching out the crunch.
I like easy peasy lemon squeezy
Thanks for the great info!! ❤
Glad I could help with it!
Watching this video, before sleep, with my hair(same length)exact the same way in a scrunchie😂👌
Love it!
