We in the USA are so used to sophisticated methods of police investigation its hard to believe other countries don't have the same techniques at their disposal. The FBI has so much experience chasing down guys like this.
This sounds like the path that America is going. I was watching a video about prisoners, and most comments were stating that a man should be released who killed two people, when he was 13. They don’t stop killing.
The very concept that serial murderers is an expressly USA has always been insane to me. We have had serial murderers for centuries. And they are on every continent, in every race, and among every culture.
Just a small correction for authenticity, it is funny to see that whilst the case plays in Austria, all the uniformed officers at the beginning, crime lab, house search, etc. do wear German batches on their sleeves ;-) and they do look completely different from the Austrian batches. So if you reenact old cases, don't mix up the Germans with the Austrians ;-)
What sucks is that because Jack died before he could appeal the verdict, it was never legally valid. Thus, according to Austrian law, Unterweger is to be regarded as innocent.

Did anyone else think that one Austrian detective (with the high eyebrows) sounded like the Austrians version of a Brooklyn accent?
Yes. I was thinking that he must have watched a lot of American shows with people who have a Brooklyn accent. Many people whose first language is not English teach themselves English via television and movies (on their own.) Others have picked up on that concept and there are now actually YT videos that use movies to teach English.
No surprise that the media loved and supported him . . .
Just a reminder people: someone can be a good writer & still be a killer! You're welcome
''Unterweger'' means on the way/traveler, from german lang... Sad stories... RIP all the victims! Thanks for upload!
he was let out and given a second chance. he had become a celebrity. his life really got back on track, but the reality was he had never changed. it just shows killing was part of his nature. iam so glad he topped himself shortly after being incarcerated, and the irony in the knot that was used, wow.
Europe not known for serial killers. Try Jack the ripper and Christie to name but two
Evidence that Jessica Fletcher was the killer in every episode - she, like this man, was always where the murders happened!
🤭😂👍
I'm always surprised no one ever seemed to notice death followed that woman. Now that would have been an amazing way to end the show if it turns out she was either the most prolific killer of all time or the devil.
She single handedly destroyed the tourist industry in Cabot Cove. No one goes there anymore, murder capital of the U.S.
This is what happens when we let media dictate what happens around us rather just report on news and events.
I don't comment much on crime shows but this one I am impressed with. Thank you
The media still covers up and protects it's favourites to this day. It ignores what it doesn't want to see.
Yes. Just look at Hollywood some people are really good at acting even in the courtroom
Parole is a loophole in justice system. And also a definite disrespect to the victims.
VICAP was created at the instigation of Anne Rule, former Seattle policewoman and a very fine crime-writer, whose book, The Stranger Beside Me is perhaps still the most authoritative account of serial killer Ted Bundy. Her books are all worth a read. They are accurate and dispassionate, but not without great empathy for the victims.
Phillip Vietri I really like Ann Rules books too. I think it’s strange that there are so many murders in the area where she is from (King County, WA)
He travelled to the site of each murder - not surprising, as he was actively investigating the cases. But he always turned up before the murder took place...
There are people out there *still* doing *life* for possession of Marijuana ... and then there was this guy
I'm a fan of the series Mindhunter and it's fascinating to see the real Greg McCrary featured in this documentary.
As opposed to the fake Greg McCrary?

“He got real psychopathic tattoos in prison” shows a tattoo that says make love.....
He didn't like being abused, yet he did the same thing to other people. There is no excuse.
Abused people abuse others to try and gain back their lost power & control and to avoid feeling like a victim. It's well documented in criminal psychology. A USA study found 96% of serial killers had history of :child abuse,MH issues & head injury resulting in personality change.
Nobody gives a fuck Sarah.Kill the abuser if you want. But there is no excuse for killing anybody else. And these assholes lie all the time.Just because someone says they are abused doesn't mean it's true.
Thank goodness for science and good police work. The FBI is amazing
Some can be, I agree. They don't do that without the prayers of praying Americans like me though. God can do anything through prayer and all is possible with God. When they start going bad, I asked God, nevrmind.
The people got what they wanted. When you put the crim before the victim you are always to blame.
byron elenica I ❤️ crim
This blind devotion to celebrity is astounding...just look at the predicament this has gotten American culture and politics into.
What predicament are we Americans in?
@@mariebernier3076 the fact that you don't know is worrying to say the least !!!
Marie Bernier oh honey. You don’t know?! Poor simple thing.
Marie Bernier I agree that we are in a predicament. Our media guides the news wherever it wants. No wonder the media loved this guy - he told them what they wanted to hear.
In America the media is NOT the issue. It is uneducated listening to a unqualified, so called President!
All Thanks to the bleeding hearts that think a evil person can change!
Amazing isn’t it. I hate stupid people.
A Evil person never changes they just learn how to do their evilness better.
Wow. People literally thought the arts "redeemed" him....WTF....how European and snobby is that LOL
@Piatequila holy crap
@Piatequila I believe you.
"European and snobby"
For a start, people in Europe are completely different from one country to the next so saying 'how European' is very ignorant, but at least Europe values the arts as opposed to America which is a cultural vacuum and only has WWE and dogshit Hollywood movies and even worse music to offer lolz.
@Piatequila he wasn't made a hero, he was a freak show. Trust me, the same thing would have happened in the U.S if Charles Manson got released.
"Austria had its first serial killer in modern times" ........ HMNMNMNMMMMMMMM .......

I love and applaud how respectfully this narrator speaks about sex workers. ("Licensed professional.") And also how the Austrian government began work right away on these murders instead of contributing to the "less dead" phenomena that throws POC, the homeless, sex workers and more at risk persons into a file left in a mounting stack that collects dust and continuously gets overlooked.
Austria's government pays this guy to travel? With felonies he's allowed to leave the country? Not enough they let him go free in the 1st place?
Of course you can travel - has nothing to do with having been to prison. Time served, thus a free person that can do everything that you and I can do.
@@renataostertag6051 sure? My son has a felony and can't leave. ???
@@renataostertag6051 i wanted to take him back to germany for a new start. Can't. Btw he didn't even get arrested for a violent crime. Just bullshit
@@violagentsch Pardon? You cannot get your son into Germany? I have trouble believing that. I know that the USA are nowadays, since 2001, careful.
However in the 1990s it was very different. Nowadays that Unterweger guy would not be let in (into the USA), I am sure.
@@violagentsch I am sorry Viola, he can't leave from where and go into what country?
We in the USA are so used to sophisticated methods of police investigation its hard to believe other countries don't have the same techniques at their disposal. The FBI has so much experience chasing down guys like this.
You hit the nail on the head: the FBI has SO MUCH EXPERIENCE. Because serial killers aren't as rife in other parts of the world. Duh.
This sounds like the path that America is going. I was watching a video about prisoners, and most comments were stating that a man should be released who killed two people, when he was 13. They don’t stop killing.
The FBI guy who introduces the show has the ear lobes so big that looks like is wearing earrings
Sá Teixeira I think he looks more like he should be a member of the ‘Gambino’ family in New Yark! In the waste management business, no less! 🤣😂😂
So he’s this big hot shot writer and he has to get money from his girlfriends mom?
Girlfriend was a real smart one.
lets give her a break she was an 18yr old being seduced by a master manipulator . thank goodness he never killed her.
The smart one here was the girlfriends mum , making it possible for the police to apprehend him .
They let him out... and almost a dozen more women were brutally murdered
Aurea Draconis patches or badges, not batches. Hope that helps.
What sucks is that because Jack died before he could appeal the verdict, it was never legally valid. Thus, according to Austrian law, Unterweger is to be regarded as innocent.
If they hadn’t let him out of prison, 11 women would still be alive. I hope the Austrian public felt ashamed of their foolishness.
When describing or reconstructing the image of the prostitutes it’s all so sexist and titillating
They all look so happy- most where dependant on drugs-the truth is they probably had terrible lives .
This freaking guy was at the exact places the murder took place??! GIANT RED FLAG 🚩
He would do anything to get the story.
was expecting for them to mention that he used the _same_ knot on himself he did with his victims, but they didn't..
Lol...in the portrayal of his capture at the Western Union the shirt he was wearing was the exact same one I had as well in the early 90's lol
He has the a Ted Bundy character.
Exactly what I felt as well!!

Brave enough to strangle hand-disabled women, but not brave enough to serve his sentence?
He needed death penalty.
Am I the only person getting a sinking feeling about that police ride along? We’re the cops super-dum, was the killer bright? Probably both. What a mess
You get a sinking feeling about the ride along because you are watching this video about murders that he committed.
The police didn’t have such luxury. They had to trust paperworks, otherwise journalists would complain about them..

Still there are countries there serial killing are not ocurring so often, so the police have not much experience to catch them within a reasonable time. In this case Austria got a solid help of FBI, otherwise this killer still would be killing women around the city without being catched.

“Austria’s first serial killer in modern history”
@Tiger I. F. R. Tiger It's not a competition on who has the leastserial killers wtf...
How the heck did he get a vise to come to USA,specially back then?
Visas weren't granted to those that had just an arrest, and he was a freaking criminal with a record and prison time. Smh
Someone doesnt just end up on the best seller list. He did something bad to get out of prison. He made a pact and sold his soul.. The only way to become "celebrity"...especially from jail.

Sounds like a plot for a novel!
This narrator is legendary reminds me of childhood watching on sky
Murder Parolees are generally forbidden to travel, massive loophole in the system here.
The man portraying Jack unterweger looks exactly like the serial killer himself.
He certainly had a hatred for his mother. Adults ruin child5
Don’t blame parents for your sins, mistakes, life after 30.
A How can he hate mother who wasn’t even present in his life. She wasn’t controlling him, torturing him, abusing him - she wasn’t there to do that. He was taken care of by other people. He wasn’t abandoned to the streets. Millions of children have much, much more difficult childhood and monstrous parents and never become serial killers.
Killer said; go to the chopper. 😵 (Austria)
I like the idea of rehabilitation vs. hard time like Canada does, but this is why I cannot fully get behind it. Some people just cannot be rehabilitated.
Why was the man paroled , the retired cop suspected something , but was ignored . Justice is sometimes blind . RSA , Jaftà.
Good reason to give up bras, ladies! (I think we've already given up nylon stockings.)
Ayyye! I caught this video just a hour after it’s release.
His comfort zone wasn't necessarily Austria. He felt at home and in his comfort zone wherever prostitutes or those who exchanged sex for favors hung out regardless of the country.
I'm going be that guy. Hey, maybe don't trust a sociopath who is a proven and convicted serial killer.
The point is they do not want to get caught. Certain murderous scenarios should
be granted the death penalty, because society is paying for a monster to live in prison.
Look up how much it costs the government to put someone on death row :/ rehabilitation for as many people as possible is something to keep in mind. Of course I agree some people should never be released again.
