I am quickly becoming obsessed with mounting plants! Would you consider doing a care video? How to recognize when to water? Ways to water? Overall care tips and tricks? Thank you!

You did a great job at explaining it so clearly! Love it! In tropical Australia all the birds nest ferns and stag horn/Elk horn ferns grow naturally on trees! So you replicated that really well Claire! 💚🌿

i don't know if anyone already suggested, but i discovered the turntables for cakes are such a handy things for plants to sit on :) , I've got my plants on them and it makes the rotation of them for 360degrees "sunbathe" so much easier! I imagine, it's can be handy for the wall mounting jobs too! =D

Great video! I’ve seen pictures of stag horn ferns mounted like this but always wondered how it actually worked. Might give it a go. A great excuse to buy yet another plant as I don’t have any ferns at the moment. Thanks for sharing this with us.

Thank you for the great tutorial. We are renovating and my idea is to mount maybe three staghorn ferns on the dining room wall when we finish that room. I like the irony of mounting the plants like some people might mount their hunting trophies. Maybe I should get them little plaques with their Latin names!

Looks great☺️ I’d like to try this with an oblong log type shape! I think it would also work really well to use cuttings that have been rooted in water/spag/perlite or whatever else, that way you don’t have to worry about messing with a tight root ball!

When I mount epiphytic ferns and other epiphytes (not including bromeliads) I use sphagnum moss. But when I mount bromeliads I don’t use sphagnum moss because I don’t need to as they hold water in their cups, so I just stick the stolen into the bark, and tie it down and maybe add some moss to hide the wire.

I’m hoping to try this as another way to hang plants on my porch. I have posts I’m going to connect some barge ones with a round loop where I can sit them in the loop. Thought your design would be beautiful above. How do you water this on the board? Spray?

  • @meganpahl3612

Hello! Long time no chat:) I have a VERY important question for you regarding mounting staghorns. I have one that is in a pot and very established. This means there are multiple basal fronds and they all point in DIFFERENT directions. I know that these will eventually die if they are hung 'upside-down' meaning that their new growth is inferior when mounted and not used as the 'top' I do want to mount this fern as one [piece and not separate them all to make sure they all are pointed correctly. I also do NOT want to use an s-shape hook and hang it. I want to mount it in its entirety. Is there a way of telling where the actual main plant is or a way to make sure all new growth is ion top when done?

Claire you have got to help me! I mounted two beautiful staghorn ferns onto slices of walnut wood just like everyone else and the next day,, BOTH pieces of wood had split through the middle. It looks like someone cut a slice of pizza out of them! Why is this and do I have to completely remove and remount?
