As someone who doesn't watch One Piece, seriously, it's a beast of an anime, I'm still glad that Bamco gave us a competently made RPG from the series. When done well, turn-based combat can be a blast, great they got it right, as for puzzles in RPGs, I can take em or leave em.
I'm a huge One Piece fan. This game looks great for a fan of the show. The pacing issues don't surprise me based on how the stories are told in the manga and show.
Great video! As a big One Piece fan I actually wasn’t super interested in the game until watching this. I didn’t know this game was a DQ style JRPG so I’m actually looking forward to trying it out. (Also I highly recommend the One Piece manga. I like the anime but it’s pacing kills me sometimes.)
@@kingdomsoul8968 at the start of the demo sure but you go back to level 1 pretty quickly a bit over half, people said the maybe first 3-4 hours are kinda easy and then its gets better
@@kingdomsoul8968 yeah you are only op for the prologue, after that you have to level up from level 1 and unlock all the abilities as you play. I’m hoping we get some more cool moves that weren’t shown in the prologue.
I blindly bought it yesterday when I noticed it released. For what it is, I have been enjoying it. It’s faithful to the source material and it looks great. The exploring and combat is simple but fun.
The manga while long truly is a hilarious thought-provoking masterpiece. Anyone who is fully caught up will agree and along with me can't wait until the next chapter keep em coming Oda.
I hope this game gets a sequel because I enjoyed my time playing it as a one piece fan. There's a few things I wanna see in the sequel, -First I wanna see them run to another area, in the anime the straw hats are always running. -Second drop the enemy circle thing, they should add a speed status so when luffy would use gear 2nd it would actually feel like he's in one. -Third, hopefully when changing characters in the field and in battle, they could just do the way xseed games change characters, there's no menu, if you press left or right they change instantly. -4th, a battle lock, where if a party member is in an area where there are 3 enemies they are locked in, you can't change them unless you liberate the area -Lastly, I wanna see a one piece jrpg game where we don't have to visit the old arcs. But yeah this game is the best one piece game!!
This is a better review than I expected to be honest. I've been reading about exploration being a drag and the game not respecting anyone's time. If it's "just" a little bit of a pacing issue with too many cutscenes, I'll be happy to take it on :)
I’m glad the combat isn’t too basic but I was hoping the game would have used something similar to Wild Arms 4 Hex system. The battle has seven Hexagon grids, with 3 elemental grids lit up as the battle starts. Your characters and enemies are randomly thrown on the grid, your characters can share a space and enemies can share a space. If you attack a group of enemies or heal a group of allies then everyone will get the same effect.
They clearly did a FANTASTIC job of animating and just making the visual style of this game pop and enjoyable. This game really screams “buy me!” to me, especially with the Dragon Quest appearance. The music is also great imo from the demo i played. Thanks TGS!!!

Well if there is too much fight you can bypass monsters? in DQ XI i done it a lot and menage to beat game being 4-5levels behind easy. Assume it's same here as made by same dev
I didn't expect such innovative combat in this game. Because ps2vr is coming soon i can buy just one game next month but i think i'll pick this up tomorrow as i actually did watch *all* of the anime and even read all the manga episodes. Spoilers ahead! It misses the fishman karate character and you can play this game without having to watch the anime if you got to where they get brook. It seems to be the last added character in this game. It doesn't actually involve the story, the game is essentially extra content not included in the anime, an original story.
Stranded on a mysterious island gave me really big one piece unlimited Cruise vibes. For me it is still the best one piece game but that maybe mostly nostalgia talking. I played the demo and I really likes Odyssey. I think one piece games are the best if they don't follow the manga but tell an original story. All the one piece warriors games feel extremely the same. As a one piece and warriors fan I still play them and like them but with warriors 4 I realized I don't have that much fun playing the same story over and over again.
The lack of an English dub really kills the hype for this one tbh. It's funny cause I watch the show in Japanese, yet with a game I prefer being able to hear and understand the dialogue.
You know I can understand most people like Naruto or Dragon Ball Z. Still when people say they don't hate it they just don't watch it. I'm honestly a little pissed that they won't even try to watch the number of episodes.
I like the popular stuff Attack on Titan Haiku and My Hero, but honestly my favorites are actually the slice of life romances: A Lull in the Sea, Toradora, Tsukigakirei, Golden Time and Wagnaria just to name a few.

Unlimited World Red is awful compared to Unlimited Adventure, Cruise ep 1 and 2 from the wii era. Red just grabbed a bit of those game and yeah the sound effects in the whole series Unlimited are awful.

I honestly had zero interest in this game before your coverage, which made me decide to keep my eye on it. At the end of the day I don't think this one will be for me, at least not at this time, but if I find myself caught up on the games I want to play and find this for cheap enough I might give it a go.

This game just didn’t hook me. I’m a huge one piece fan and just playing the game felt so strange to me. It’s definitely very similar to modern dragon quest but it is not as polished or fun to explore the overworld.
It's to easy you level up after every fight its a pretty jrpg and the characters are awesome but there's no challenge money and items are pointless you find attack+25 items in the first hour which makes it even more easy it's a pass for me personally
"You are either in a lot of combat or a lot of story" that tends to be so many RPGs in general. It's why the genre is not often one I play. I can't even get into Witcher 3 because of it. It's either crappy combat or lots of talking. As for the game itself, I was never really into One Piece, and even after me warming up to fighting shonen anime now, I find One Piece's overall story and premise to be the same thing Dragon Ball did in the very first arc, like the damn Pilaf arc except DB never took over a 1000 episodes to tell that story. And I really dislike this whole, "this is made for fans mentality" that so many anime games go for. These games are never truly going to be more than virtual fan service unless if they try to be very good games in their own right.
Gameplay and animation looks great but I am kind of dissapointed they went with the whole living through memories of shit that happened story. I'd much rather see something completely unique rather than them depending on what everyone is familiar with.
The one piece unlimited has no business being on the list of "not being the best" when it has scores of 7 and up consistently. Should have chosen a different game to illustrate thar point
Do yourself a favor and pass on a few games this year/ invest some time to read the manga. Anime kinda blows, but manga is probably the best thing you'll experience in a long time. If you like Japanese culture/good storytelling even a little, you pretty much owe it to yourself to read it. There's even a colorized version of it now.
I feel like the anime is a fair interpretation of the Manga. Some moments even shine harder with actual audio and animation. Like the death of the Merry
If you asked 100 people that have read the manga and watched the anime, which they like better, I think you'd be hard pressed to find 1 that chooses the anime. The anime is passable pre-skip, but unbearable post skip. Pacing is horrendous. Pretty common to see people discussing how there should be a serialized OP reboot of the anime once it's over because it turns so many people off from getting into the series.

Why not just tell them to check out both and let them decide themselves which they prefer more? The second point about the manga having issues too makes even less sense, because any issues the manga has will be even more prevalent in the anime because the anime gets its source material from the manga. Any pacing issues/dead people stuff just gets put in the anime as well. If someone likes the anime, I'm happy for them. The manga pitch is for people that find the anime daunting or didn't like it because it's a way easier and objectively just better way to consume it as it takes up less time and is directly as the author intended it. And no, the problem isn't that people "haven't given the anime a fair shot". I've watched every anime episode. I've read every manga chapter. The manga is just better and I'd really like to meet the person that is caught up on both that wouldn't say the same thing. If you've watched, actually watched, not just seen a few episodes, the anime and you genuinely don't like it, going to the Manga isn't going to change that. This series just isn't for you. My point in what I'm saying is that it felt clear this person you were suggesting to read the Manga wasn't very interested in the first place and to not reinforce bad opinions of something when they both have their issues. And yea, the Manga also has serious pacing issues. And I think you know that. Some chapters are stretched out and give no new info and a few new panels just to coincide with promo for another Shonen project. And some are rushed through, the ending of this last arc for example, to catch up with the time frame they want to stay in. There are plot holes galore and moments that make absolutely no sense, like dead people not staying dead. Bon clay and whatever the dead dads name is have yet to be "revived" in the show so their moments actually carry weight. This is what I mean, it seems you're so on the anime hate wagon that you're overlooking the glaring issues with the Manga. Both are great, though they both have their issues. And to be honest, I'm one of those who has read and watched all of each and I think the anime hits different when I comes to the best aspects of One Piece. The action, the emotion, the character interactions, the narration, and that music is always on point. None of these even compare in the Manga except the action. (And for people to don't read Manga or comics it won't be up to par just looking at pictures when you can watch it happening.) Especially if you've never seen the anime and dont know the tone, voice, or inflections characters like to use when saying certain jokes. Brook is the prime example. Yo-ho-ho before seeing the anime just seems like retard Santa. After, it's Brook, and it brings with it the lingering feeling of hearing Bink's Sake. Before I ramble any more, not trying to be disrespectful. Everyone has their opinion. Just kills me when people claim the anime isn't worth the watch and to just read the Manga. As a fan, it should be encouraged to experience as much One Piece as possible. And to claim its not Canon is silly because it's all the same information with a few slight differences that do nothing to change the overall story and its characters. Aside from leaving dead people dead.
To be honest i love watching one piece but this game is not for me (hate turn based rpg or atleast make like Xcom) instead they should make combat system same like ( Real time Action Rpg)

the puzzles are brain dead lol literally stepping on tiles that are easy to get to. Combat is so repetitive, pretty much just fighting generic animal A through Z.

one piece should be NOT turn-based just it doesn't feel right and a waste of potential should be an ARPG played like a Genshin Impact when you can combo switch between different party members don't get me wrong i love turn-based i'm a huge fan of turn-based jrpg like dragon quest and ff series but in One Piece it just doesn't quite match imo. I want luffy and the crew to be played and control their awesome moves the way any arpg dmc or even 3d fighting game did. Just take DBZ: Kakarot for example
World Seeker is easily Twice as good as this shitty game. Sure, it has issues ( Luffie is the only playable character outside of DLC ) however, it at least feels good, has meaningful progression and is not baby easy so bad the developer allows you to SKIP HAVING TO PLAY THE COMBAT hahahaha.

I love One Piece but at this point they are better off sticking to tv shows and mangas because they have 0 idea of wtf they are doing with video games. There were some pretty heartfelt moments with Vivi in the game that I really dug. It’s got great characters for sure.

For the record there is only one or 2 other true rpg one piece games. The rest are either musou, action adventure, or fighting games

In the beginning area yes, but as the game goes on it gets considerably less easy.

Yeah I literally beat the first boss just auto attacking without thinking but the first Memoria area is a more balanced experienced.

I don’t think I missed a single attack with any character. Although his rubber band attack doesn’t actually hit enemies but does damage 😂

I got this on launch but disappointed - it was to samey and repetitive. I have sold the game after about 8 hours play. (Also I love JRPG)

This game just didn’t hook me. I’m a huge one piece fan and just playing the game felt so strange to me. It’s definitely very similar to modern dragon quest but it is not as polished or fun to explore the overworld.
It's to easy you level up after every fight its a pretty jrpg and the characters are awesome but there's no challenge money and items are pointless you find attack+25 items in the first hour which makes it even more easy it's a pass for me personally
The beginning area is very easy but the games gets more challenging as it goes on.
I just picked this up and never watched one piece but think I might Luffy is a great protagonist

"You are either in a lot of combat or a lot of story" that tends to be so many RPGs in general. It's why the genre is not often one I play. I can't even get into Witcher 3 because of it. It's either crappy combat or lots of talking.
As for the game itself, I was never really into One Piece, and even after me warming up to fighting shonen anime now, I find One Piece's overall story and premise to be the same thing Dragon Ball did in the very first arc, like the damn Pilaf arc except DB never took over a 1000 episodes to tell that story.
And I really dislike this whole, "this is made for fans mentality" that so many anime games go for. These games are never truly going to be more than virtual fan service unless if they try to be very good games in their own right.
I 100% agree with that last point! Make new adventures instead of reliving the same ones over and over.

I think the big issue is that anime has a set continuity where its harder to do it in.
Gameplay and animation looks great but I am kind of dissapointed they went with the whole living through memories of shit that happened story. I'd much rather see something completely unique rather than them depending on what everyone is familiar with.

The one piece unlimited has no business being on the list of "not being the best" when it has scores of 7 and up consistently. Should have chosen a different game to illustrate thar point

Do yourself a favor and pass on a few games this year/ invest some time to read the manga. Anime kinda blows, but manga is probably the best thing you'll experience in a long time. If you like Japanese culture/good storytelling even a little, you pretty much owe it to yourself to read it. There's even a colorized version of it now.
I feel like the anime is a fair interpretation of the Manga. Some moments even shine harder with actual audio and animation. Like the death of the Merry
If you asked 100 people that have read the manga and watched the anime, which they like better, I think you'd be hard pressed to find 1 that chooses the anime. The anime is passable pre-skip, but unbearable post skip. Pacing is horrendous. Pretty common to see people discussing how there should be a serialized OP reboot of the anime once it's over because it turns so many people off from getting into the series.
@@nicorobin5978 well, good for them. But telling someone to ignore one thing because there is a better interpretation, in your opinion, is kind of silly don't you think? Why not just tell them to check out both and let them decide themselves which they prefer more? It kills me that most people who like the Manga more don't even watch the anime for real, they watch a few episodes just to trash the pacing or because they hear it has great or shit animation. Then spend all their time talking about how it's so much worse when it's damn near the same thing. The Manga has pacing issues as well. And pieces that feel like they weren't fleshed out at all. Not keeping dead people dead. It's just up to you who you'd rather use to enjoy the story. None of the issues the anime has are egregious enough to warrant all the hate.
@@randomcracka3 I'm sorry, but this comment makes zero sense. The person I suggested the manga to already said he didn't like the anime. That's why I suggested it to begin with. The second point about the manga having issues too makes even less sense, because any issues the manga has will be even more prevalent in the anime because the anime gets its source material from the manga. Any pacing issues/dead people stuff just gets put in the anime as well. If someone likes the anime, I'm happy for them. The manga pitch is for people that find the anime daunting or didn't like it because it's a way easier and objectively just better way to consume it as it takes up less time and is directly as the author intended it.
And no, the problem isn't that people "haven't given the anime a fair shot". I've watched every anime episode. I've read every manga chapter. The manga is just better and I'd really like to meet the person that is caught up on both that wouldn't say the same thing. Because I've never heard that opinion, but have heard the opposite dozens of times.
@@nicorobin5978 this is just an assumption but trying the anime and not liking it, to me, means you won't like the series as a whole. As you said, the Manga is the source material. If you've watched, actually watched, not just seen a few episodes, the anime and you genuinely don't like it, going to the Manga isn't going to change that. This series just isn't for you. My point in what I'm saying is that it felt clear this person you were suggesting to read the Manga wasn't very interested in the first place and to not reinforce bad opinions of something when they both have their issues.
And yea, the Manga also has serious pacing issues. And I think you know that. Some chapters are stretched out and give no new info and a few new panels just to coincide with promo for another Shonen project. And some are rushed through, the ending of this last arc for example, to catch up with the time frame they want to stay in. There are plot holes galore and moments that make absolutely no sense, like dead people not staying dead. Bon clay and whatever the dead dads name is have yet to be "revived" in the show so their moments actually carry weight.
This is what I mean, it seems you're so on the anime hate wagon that you're overlooking the glaring issues with the Manga. Both are great, though they both have their issues. And to be honest, I'm one of those who has read and watched all of each and I think the anime hits different when I comes to the best aspects of One Piece.
The action, the emotion, the character interactions, the narration, and that music is always on point. None of these even compare in the Manga except the action. (And for people to don't read Manga or comics it won't be up to par just looking at pictures when you can watch it happening.) Especially if you've never seen the anime and dont know the tone, voice, or inflections characters like to use when saying certain jokes. Brook is the prime example. Yo-ho-ho before seeing the anime just seems like retard Santa. After, it's Brook, and it brings with it the lingering feeling of hearing Bink's Sake.
Before I ramble any more, not trying to be disrespectful. Everyone has their opinion. Just kills me when people claim the anime isn't worth the watch and to just read the Manga. As a fan, it should be encouraged to experience as much One Piece as possible. And to claim its not Canon is silly because it's all the same information with a few slight differences that do nothing to change the overall story and its characters. Aside from leaving dead people dead.
I wanted to play this game but I check reviews about it first. I don't think I will enjoy it. The game I want to play is a Inuyasha game long ago.
To be honest i love watching one piece but this game is not for me (hate turn based rpg or atleast make like Xcom) instead they should make combat system same like ( Real time Action Rpg)
They lost me with the turn based combat.

Party members don't all need to be in the battle to use group up moves, you just need to use the move with one of the characters from that chain.

the puzzles are brain dead lol literally stepping on tiles that are easy to get to. Combat is so repetitive, pretty much just fighting generic animal A through Z.
Graphics are not upto 2023 standard . They could have used unreal engine 5

i love dynasty warrior games and almost all of its spinoffs from zelda hyrule warriors to person breakers to fire emblem heroes, but didnt like one piece pirate warriors

one piece should be NOT turn-based just it doesn't feel right and a waste of potential should be an ARPG played like a Genshin Impact when you can combo switch between different party members don't get me wrong i love turn-based i'm a huge fan of turn-based jrpg like dragon quest and ff series but in One Piece it just doesn't quite match imo. I want luffy and the crew to be played and control their awesome moves the way any arpg dmc or even 3d fighting game did. Just take DBZ: Kakarot for example

World Seeker is easily Twice as good as this shitty game. Sure, it has issues ( Luffie is the only playable character outside of DLC ) however, it at least feels good, has meaningful progression and is not baby easy so bad the developer allows you to SKIP HAVING TO PLAY THE COMBAT hahahaha.
Personally I liked more WorldSeeker than this one

@@kaviasizach8490 Everything. It felt like inexperienced developers trying to make a type of game too big that their budget allowed. The whole game was embarrassing and had a cheap budget feel. And for an open world game, you cannot feel or be cheap.

This game is such trash. They could have done so much with it. Instead they decide to make it like a Pokemon game with turn style fighting and totally shit the bed once again. I love One Piece but at this point they are better off sticking to tv shows and mangas because they have 0 idea of wtf they are doing with video games. And then have the audacity to charge top dollar for it.
