It was definitely a major factor to their early successes, being able to fight for 3 days straight without tiring is a huge boon. @Trollosis Mememodius Only reason why Germany was unable to compete with allied forces on nuclear research was German high-command split up the researchers and resources too thin, into multiple groups that did not share test results and/or progress with eachother. Still, the group's that we're in charge of mass executions - had very low morale and were often positions of punishment for SS soldiers who underperformed in other situations. The Werhmacht was separate, *most* war crimes were from the *SS* and It *wasn't* BECAUSE of the drugs, ....but the drugs probably helped.
This was a very interesting, yet sad video. I had no idea the use of meth was so common in the Wehrmacht and civilian population. Yet another way Nazi Germany destroyed lives.
Yeah, but the thing is there is fine link between drugs and war throughout the whole human history and from all places of the world. The psychological effects of long term meth usage was a contributing factor in why so many German troops would commit atrocities.
Contributing factor in some cases, for sure, but certainly no excuse!
I think this needs to be looked in to more than just oh they committed war crimes just because. I really think the majority of the times that it did happen they used meth to cope with the fact that they were slaughtering people. I honestly can't fathom how so many of them were able to commit such foul acts against just human beings they didn't even know. If you ever seen that show breaking bad the nazis remind me of tuco when he'd take a hit and then he'd get all psychotic and wanting to hurt someone.
