Everyone commenting about how the Germans were only ones hopped up on stimulants. Stimulants have been used by every fighting force throughout history
and still are.
Yep, they used different stimulants, but they were used all over for lots of human history, Coffee Fruit was used as a stimulant in Africa for example, because the entire fruit has caffeine.
From a military rations UA-camr, I learned that British emergency rations also contained pills of amphetamines. Though the package clearly said that the contents should be distributed by an officer if the need arose.

@@Plumpplumberbalding alcohol is a depressant and would impair a soldier's ability to fight. Stimulants like meth, cocaine, khat, adrenaline ephedrine and PCP have been used for years. Meth being used by all sides during WW2 and more recently adrenaline and khat were used by the Saddam Fedayeen in the Iraq war and weight loss stimulants used by coalition forces.

I used to be a meth addict, it makes you extremely focused and energized to an extreme degree as well as not wanting to eat and not needing to sleep.
If you stay on it for days however you will start to hallucinate and become extremely paranoid.
Eventually you will fall asleep, and if you have been on for days you will sleep for at least an entire day or two+ depending how long stayed awake and if you ate and drank enough during this period.
When you're high you don't notice...
But when you wake up you think about how you look and how you acted... That dilated cold lifeless look in your eyes and remember acting as you never would normally.
Stay away from this drug at all costs trust me I nearly died, you may look good, you may lose weight but you're rotting on the inside.
Eventually you'll realize that you're going f****** nuts.

As a 20 year-old In the late '60s and very early 70 I grasped the culture and tried everything and even inhalled. Now in my early '70s, (once a man twice a child', I can assure you everyone I ever knew who got hooked on 'Meth, got crazy real fast & had horrendous physical issues (like ear & tooth rot) but don't know if they lived long because of the very strong tendency to avoid them. Can't image what it was like in combat in a mielieu like that and the exceptional drama going on. A son of a Salvation Minister who turned to 'Rock & Roll', in revolt remained a philosopher & a spiritual believed. He said we the eyes and ears of God' - and God must know everything. Thats his job? We're just his finger-tips.

Whenever you hear stories of the 'brave few' during the battle of Britain, yeah. Flying three, four or five sorties a day on fuck all sleep, the squadron doctors were pumping the pilots full of uppers and amphetamine. It's very well documented
I would hate to be in war during a comedown after being awake for 3 days and not eating. That part must of been rough. Unless they had a way to cycle the high troops, and the troops coming down.

The troops were cycled and slept for almost 2 whole days. This let down further hampered progress of German troops and failed missions or even untimely death.
It was definitely a major factor to their early successes, being able to fight for 3 days straight without tiring is a huge boon. However, for those who survived multiple battles it would’ve soon become part of their downfall. Their bodies would develop a tolerance, requiring more meth for the same effects, and when the military ran out withdrawal would take effect.
My late father-in-law served in the war as a US army infantry he said they were given chocolate bars and could go for 24 hours or more ...

Well known that the US Army would at times issue "pep pills" or similar during WWII. Not standard issue in their rations however.

@@KaoticReach1999 Alot of substances usually are only psychologically addictive, but harder stuff like meth, coke and others are physically addicting to the point that on extreme withdrawals the body and mind will shut down, and that's if you are lucky, for many the withdrawals peroid is excruciatingly slow, only just to end in death after all the pain (this is if you didnt have medical help thru it, and even then some people still cant survive it)
Basically, think chemo but daily and mix in a bit of every bad psychological illness, and that's what the withdrawals from long term meth useage can look like, course its different for everyone and how they quit
The other terrifying thing about meth compared to many other drugs is that is very hard to not become addicted after trying it once, some people can try coke once or twice and be fine, but thats alot hard with meth since the first high is very extreme, although you will never reach it again, no matter how hare you try. Some people can try it and avoid it, but again, its not a risk you want to take honestly
Of coruse I am not an expert, I just know a decent bit about biology, but either way, there is a reason meth is considered one of if not the hardest drug

Amphetamines were a standard part of the 'escape' kit box issued to all Allied airmen on flying operations. It proved to be especialy effective when climbing over the Pyrenee mountains from occupied France into Spain - providing the extra edge of stamina when most needed.

The US was still giving amphetamine-based tablets out for Vietnam, not sure if they still give them troops but I do know they use them for ADHD now
@@jcshy I had a buddy who tried to join the Air Force and they didn’t let him because they don’t allow people needing stimulants to join. They must’ve changed.
@@jcshy I think the US military requires for potential applicants to be off any stimulants for at least two years before even being considered (that’s if you were prescribed them for medical reasons).

Just to clarify, the Germans used Methamphetamines, not CRYSTAL Meth. Crystal refers to the form in which the drug takes before consumption. The allies used regular amphetamines which compared to the Germans, would only keep you awake and alert for about twelve hours, after which you would crash and be able to sleep. The Germans would use METHamphetamine which is like uppers on steroids. Meth keeps you up often for days on end, in minimal doses it can keep you awake for about a day. One of the main reasons the Germans made such rapid advances and then stopped was because they would crash and need days to recover before returning to the fight
German consumption of meth wasn't as regular as this vid suggests.

@@genogrinberg6014 You only asked for John's source, but you did not ask for The Front's. And there is no mention of Benzedrine, the Allied equivalent which was produced in larger quantities (72 million tablets vs 38 million Pervitin) and in larger doses, (5, 10 & 25mg vs 3 & 5mg of Pervitin).
By Allied I ment only American and British and Commonwealth forces, not Soviets. The Russians (more than Soviets) had Vodka.

To be fair, at the time amphetamine advertised in the US with messages like "Stay fit and slim - by taking amphetamine" and sold to housewives. Pan Am offered meth inhalers on their flights, it was on the menu together with cigarettes, drinks and stuff.

My husband is German. His grandmother, a nurse, used pervitin during the war. She raised 4 sons, born 1938 to 1944, and continued working full time, lived on to be 85 and was basically healthy throughout her life.
I'm sure Pervitin was a lot cleaner than the nowadays street junk.
@@Apollo-gd4qp Yup - people have been known to add warfarin to street drugs. Think rat poison that kills by thinning the blood. And there's all sorts of other actives (ie chemicals that'll affect a human) they add to eke out the stuff.
The Pervitin is as about as pure as you can get and as long as you didn't overdo it and used it sparingly you were probably OK. Although I wouldn't want to have been pregnant in 1944 anywhere let alone Germany.

Well, I happen to be both German as well as ridiculously adhd and ocd and holy shit its a crap shoot when it comes to using "pervitin " lol. Also being a life long biker and growing up around and with bikers, its not just for partying but can also be a tool when you're riding 60,000 miles a year on a harley during runs and what not. Did it help? Yup, was it fun? Yup, did it occasionally screw with my adhd and ocd? Yup! Nothing like frantically tearing down a 76' shovelhead to its frame and then meticulously cleaning and repairing every little nut and bolt and then bringing it back to life running better than it did in 1976 and in less than 36 hours none the less. Here is where it fucks with you.... you happen to find one random bolt from who knows what or where, but you're positive that you forgot something and thats when you lose your shit and do the entire process all over again. Of course now you've been up for a couple of days and your paranoid thoughts and imaginary people talking about imaginary shit just outside your door and as you can imagine, you yell some very loud colorful things into the air and attempt to just say screw it and find whatever your favorite cocktail of shit to bring you back down so you can sleep for 48 hours and reset your brain that has became mush! 😂🤣😂🤣 good times, good times ......

I think this needs to be looked in to more than just oh they committed war crimes just because. @ Meth is not a drug you'd take to ease your pain or guilt. It's not like say opiates, benzos or cannabis. The lack of sleep is what causes most of the adverse side effects (such as aggression, lack of compassion and paranoia)
Actual interviews with German veterans about the topic of the use of meth doesn't show it's usage being very regular. At least not to the extent that it is often portrayed. However there is one book posted on the topic that greatly exaggerates its use and that's where a lot of these youtube videos get their info. So I don't believe it's very safe to say that meth contributed much to the war crimes

Meth and adderal are not the same. Adderal contains amphetamine which is not meth. It interacts with your body in a very different way. Methamphetamine isn’t filtered out before the blood reaches your brain. The amphetamine in adderal is. Do some research on adderal because methamphetamine and amphetamine are two very different things

From what I've heard, Meth was a critical part of their Blitzkrieg tactics. Seeing as the whole idea of the blitzkrieg was to gain as much ground as quickly as possible which is something that the French were not prepared for.
