- Some had more fun during history's deadliest conflict than others.
"Koivunen was assigned to a ski patrol on 20 April 1944, along with several other men. Three days into their mission, on March 18th, the group was attacked and surrounded by Soviet forces, from which they managed to escape. Koivunen became fatigued after skiing for a long distance, but could not stop. He was also the sole carrier of army-issue Pervitin, or methamphetamine, a stimulant used to remain awake while on duty. Koivunen had trouble pulling out a single pill, so he emptied the entire bottle of thirty capsules into his hand and took them all.
He had a short burst of energy, but then entered into a state of delirium, and lost consciousness. Koivunen remembered waking up the following morning, separated from his patrol and having no supplies. In the following days, he escaped Soviet forces once again, was injured by a land mine, and laid in a ditch for a week waiting for help. After skiing more than 400 km (250 miles) he was found and admitted to a nearby hospital, where his heart rate was measured at 200 beats per minute, double the average human heartbeat, and weighing only 43 kg (94 pounds). In the week Koivunen was gone, he subsisted only on pine buds and a single Siberian jay that he caught and ate raw."

There’s always the one kid that ruins the acid trip he was that kid
Then when they found him finally the first words anyone uttered, "fuck Aimo's gone"
And with their accent, everyone thinks they are stupid because they here “fuck, ammo’s gone”
"Shit, we gave him all the drugs"
Which is pretty much par for the course if you've taken enough meth to make a horse break the sound barrier.
This entire story sounds like something straight out of an early access steam survival game.
I read this after just watching a survival game speedrun, and honestly that's pretty damn accurate!

My favorite part of Aimo’s story (that sadly didn’t make it into the video) was that decades later, a local newspaper ran a contest to see which former Soldiers could send in the most outrageous wartime stories. Aimo placed second.
SECOND PLACE.
Makes me wonder what the first place story was.
First place must have been kidnapped by an alien or something
Or survived getting shot repeatedly. On DDay

They don't do things by halves in the Finnish Army.
I need to make a few corrections to this video. I'm from Finland. He didn't eat all of the pills at once. He swallowed a bunch of them because they were chased by the Russians and they were in hurry. It's not said how many he ate at first, but obviously more than he should have, lol. He also ate the pills later on. It's mentioned that when he had passed the Russian camp and Russians were chasing him again, he at that point also ate those pills to be able to get rid of the chasers. He was part of the Finnish special forces, a commando. They were basically Finlands most elite soldiers who did the most demanding tasks. Maybe that's why he was capable to ski like a madman and maybe those pills had some part as well ;) hahaha. These things happened in March 1944 in between Kantalahti and Salla. The temperatures were in between -15 to -30 Celcius.
A few notes to keep in mind, about him being the Finland version of a green beret, a special forces soldier of an army that with around 15.000 soldiers held off the soviet advance of 450.000 for over a year, (until they declared the soviets winners but with a lot more breathing room than initially demanded by the soviets, as they had a puppet leader in finland).
So you can imagine how freaking good a special forces soldier from such an army is, keeping in mind that the skills they handled best were survival and recconoisance.
An absolute mad lad.

This man tweaked in the Finnish wilderness for two straight weeks, trolled the Soviets and himself, and somehow came back alive. Hats off to Aimo, really.
Not only alive but in decent health after additionally getting maimed by two bombs in a row. Finns are made of something else.
Imagine you're a soviet regular, already having heard the black legend of the elite Finnish "ghost" soldiers. Encamped in the middle of the forest, you stand restless on your post. Suddenly, you hear a cry in the distance and feel the wind on your face. You turn around and then you see it. An unholy demon speeding towards you, dressed in sooted rags, his eyes big like dinner plates, laughing like a maniac. You draw your rifle, but it is too late. By sheer luck he misses you by an inch. Your squadmates initiate pursuit, but he is simply too fast for mortal men. He is not concerned neither by bullets flying his way or the limits of the human condition that the pursuing party must consider. He is gone, the only thing left is the diabolic laughter in the air. He will be back.
What a wondrous description, bravo friend, bravo.

Meth doesn't give withdraws - a meth user can stop using meth ANY time and all that will happen is they will sleep a lot because the body's repairing itself, and eating a lot to catch up for all the food not eaten while on meth... it's a mental addiction, the person enjoys it a lot so they are hooked. With heroin, however, you get horrible withdraws that stop you from getting clean even if you desperately want to. @@AnonMedic yup just like that guy who was maul by a bear
especially during below 0 temperatures where like every bit of wood is either wet or has ice on it :D the guy is a master at making fires lmao
Probably the training is second nature. Military survival training they probably had, plus just being a Finn they had experience dealing with cold. He didn't remember being conscious at times but that doesn't mean he wasn't "conscious" as far as being able to function.
This is the second video I’ve watched, I’d like to say top of the morning to ye🇮🇪🍺
I laughed my ass off when dude went through the camp 😂
Lol That was funny lol
can u imagine the dude bolting like a bullet and the russians goin какого черта
aaaaAAAAAHHhhhhhh
@@katrinagwyn3768 lol
That act alone, even if unintentional, deserved him a beer.
...in a paper cup. No more glass objects for him.
I'd imagine the Russians confusion when this wide eyed Finnish dude just zooms through the camp on his skiis screaming "ANYBODY SEEN MY GUUUUUN?!"
That is one tough guy to survive in cold and basically senseless most of time.
Looks down at the handful of Pervitin, "Gentlemen, start your engines!"
As a Finnish person I've heard about this guy but tbh I never thought this story was so funny. Like for an example how did this guy make so many fires during his great adventure :D
idk :D but it's one of the reasons why he could survive in the cold for so long
Prolly in his head yo
Might have had a flint, or tripping on meth might have given him the energy he needed.
The use of Meth also helped at Dunkirk as the German troops using it had finally reached the must sleep stage, giving the British more time to evacuate.
Or maybe it was the French who fought te Germans so you brits can run away in shame
Heart rate was 200bpm...that probably shortened his life a bit.
As a once heavy cocaine user... it makes your heart permanently not pump as hard... cocaine did to me tbh
thats probably the reason he didnt freeze to death to be fair
When bullets are flying by you and your fellow soldiers are dropping like flies, I doubt he cared too much about how his heart was managing...
Actually he was 71 when he died
i can really feel it when my heart overclocks nearly beats me out of the bed when i have paralazis dreams and my mouth dries out
My man, this is one of your biggest videos and it’s the first one I always send to my friends to introduce them to your channel.
Love your work and thank You for being my bedtime storyteller for months ❤
Once he said “ he had to survive buy him self all while he’s trippen balls “I liked and subscribed
Me too lol
Yep me too
im sure his 'call for help' was just "PERKELE!" over and over
Perkele and satana
Interesting fact: This was the first recorded overdose of Meth/Amphetamines.
Shut up
pls
Boy Man no u
Nothing personnel, either
I highly doubt that
I love your comedic take 😅 but he is badass and his heart was indestructible
as the saying goes "if you have enough speed you're walking distance from the beach, doesn't matter where you live you're walking distance from the beach."
Lol!
Just being on the Finnish side of the Winter War makes you a legend, meth or no meth. If you get a chance, read about it. The Finnish were wildly outnumbered and lost, but at a massive cost to the Russians. The Finnish were some of the toughest, fiercest soldiers in the history of war. It seems tough climates produce tough people.
Yes. But this is not the Winter war 1939-40, but the Continuation war 1941 - 44.
Pervitin was never as widely used in Finnish army as it was in the German, mostly been distributed to these kinds of Kaukopartio ( Literally long-distance patrols ) that performed reconnaissance and sabotage deep in the Soviet territory.
It was not until after the WW2 that the drugs like pervitin really became a national epidemic in the desolate post-war Finland.
Continuation War
My mother was from Germany and my father was black he met her when he was in the army and stationed there. Her father who became my grandfather was apart of the 2nd SS Panzerdivision Das Reich. He said this drug made you feel great and unstoppable, but nothing worse then the comedown of feeling depressed, anxiety and paranoia in the middle of a battle. He died in 1998. I miss you grandpa.
Blah blah.

I got prescribed adderall for an adult ADHD diagnosis last year. I basically live on caffeine, probably self medicating, and I typically don't eat breakfast because eating in the couple hours after I wake up destroys my stomach. So, the first day I took the adderall, I took it on a basically empty stomach save for like 2 big mugs worth of coffee. I'm standing in line at a gas station with 3 energy drinks in hand when it started to hit me. Just all of the sudden I needed to be doing something like RIGHT NOW. Get to work, where I work mostly on a dock as a deckhand mooring barges, and I feel like I just have limitless energy. I'm just effortlessly swinging around long 3 inch ropes and steel cables and gliding on and over barge covers. It eventually hit me though that I was stressing my body, was running out of breathe, and was tiring pretty bad, but still felt the urge to keep going and not slow down. I had to consciously think to calm down and go slow or else I would probably have collapsed from pushing myself too hard.
Never got any sort of high off of it again after that first dose, but just that one time was kind of crazy. It was a relatively tiny dose when compared to what people take when they do meth as a recreational drug. Very mild, almost imperceptible euphoria and clear headed as ever, but just an urge to DO IT ALL RIGHT NOW and being physically able to keep pushing passed the point I normally would have been able to. While I do not at all want the high, I can understand why some people would. I can also imagine how effective it would be in a war setting, and how fucking terrifying it would be to be up against a force of any size zonked out of their minds on meth.
Congrats on 900k :)
I'm gonna be honest. During my youth, I was a hardcore meth addict. Like total-tweaker-overload. I used to go on days-long binges. Eat nothing, sleep never, and hallucinate always. Thinking back about it, it was a living hell. And it left me with suicidal depression, anxiety, psychosis and schizophrenia. All of which are permanent in my case.
Don't use meth. It'll fuck your shit up.
They took war on drugs a bit too literally

Ei
i lost it at that part
The most amazing ice story I heard was about a bunch of addicts that break into a house intent on stealing everything, but become paranoid and instead clean the house from top to to bottom and remove all the batteries from every appliance/remote. When the family comes home they find it spotless and are very confused.
knowing meth in high doses causes paranoia, anxiety, delusions, and hallucinations... i cannot imagine the extreme terror and dread he must have felt...
Especially when your caught in the middle of a warzone. A warzone of the deadliest conflict in human history nonetheless.
trust me a small part of him enjoyed/was helped by the high in the situation he was in lol
Also in the middle of warzone and in the freezing wilderness. Quite frankly a miracle he survived.
@@VarvasNukka Yep.
Brings new meaning to that Top Gun phrase:
"I feel the need, the need for speed."
So, funny story, US fighter pilots are kept on a regimented schedule where they are administered *strong* stimulants for a block of time and kept awake and alert for x amount of time, and then they are administered downers to achieve downtime. Theres periods where they are on extended break from this schedule cause obviously this isnt sustainable for too long lol.
To be honest, this story was freaking great and it's better than 80% of the things we make up,like man... Aimo's story is crazy!
I could see this being a dark comedy movie lol
The late John Belushi would be perfect in the role.
My teacher showed us this video yesterday in my history class after starting our ww2 unit
This was more entertaining than most road trip movies I have seen
Honestly it probably helped him survive in the cold. In a past life I was a homeless drug addict on the cold streets of Maine and I use to use meth just to keep warm. I use to call it my human anti freeze. I'm now 7 months clean but I'll never forget those days. That's what helps me stay clean is remembering how messed up it all was.
Good luck on your new path!
Same here. Good for you, man.
GGs man, not many people win the meth game (making it out is how you win)
True grit bro.
Harry, you look 100% like my little brother. He is going through the same. I had to stop talking to him because how crazy he got over time. Hopefully he can quite doing drugs too
His "arguing" with his mates, but in reality he was alone. Imagine someone arguing with himself where "they" should go
"He finds some wood to make a fire , but he's sooooo fucked that he just ends up building it in the middle of the floor"
