3 minutes in the microwave, 2-3 minutes charring up, So let's call it 5 minutes. Ya can't beat that folks. Have a great weekend! Make some Mexican this weekend why don't ya?
Looks fantastic. I love sumac. For those that don't know, missing kernels is caused by lack of pollination. Each corn silk in the tassel is responsible for 1 kernel. For each silk to produce a kernel, it has to get its own piece of pollen on it. Corn pollen is usually carried by the wind in fields of corn. Sometimes the pollen saturation is really good and pollen will stick to each and every silk and sometimes it doesn't.
Nice elote brotha, next time soak them in water for about 15-20 minutes with the husk on then pop them in the microwave or the pit... The water creates better steam... Just saying, that's how I grew up eating them over an open flame of mesquite👍👍🌽🌽
Thanks Luis!! The husks of these guys we super moist so I figured that was good. I honestly never microwaved them but, 3 minutes and done? forgetaboutit! And yes, open flame is the way, but I thought for the purposes of mass appeal, I'd show the oven version, I feel like its presumed that it would also work on the grill. Nothing adds flavor like that open flame.
My ex’s grandmother is from Ensenada and she adds minced garlic, lime, cilantro, salt and pepper to the mayo. Brushes with butter as you did, then adds the mayo mixture then crumbled queso fresco. Unbelievably tasty!
I just made this on a whim this afternoon.... this is a game changer for my weeknights when I need a healthy delicious veggie that isn't that same ol same ol. you're a kitchen lifesaver as always!
Field corn for parching and sweet corn for steaming or roasting in Summer, are of course different things. The old favorite sweet corn was a variety called Silver Queen. Now super sweet varieties have been developed by the Ag departments at many of the games Universities in America. White sweet corn makes up a lot of the best eating strains.Even if you do not garden it is a revelation to look through old line seed catalogs in Winter/Spring. Such as Burgess, Ferry Morse and Burpee. Others too.) I like sweet 'corns' (cobs) with butter, salt and black pepper. But this Mexican variation looks fantastic!
I agree with you that painting it with a light coat of the mayo is way better than most of the other builds where they slop it on so thick, that's all you're gonna taste!
The silk are conduits for gametes to travel through to fertilize the corn. Each strand is for one only kernel. Corn pollen is distributed by wind. Wind blows and the corn fornicate in it. Sometimes a few of the strands never get a date and they must face the shame thereafter of a naked cob. The pollen is voluminous and often each strand of the corn's flower gets a pollen grain of it's dreams and the krib fills all the way to the top. But when you see a half barren cob of corn, it probably was due to too much rainy weather knocking the pollen out of the air on date night. Or that the stalks may have been planted too far apart or your cob grew up on the edge of the field and is therefore a hilly billy corn with snaggle teeth. Although feed corn experienced GMO disaster with Starlink and birds that are some died. Not good) It was due to bad kierality. The kierality of life is all about how everything living on Earth is left handed. Weird but true) But the square balled nerds at Monsanto who can't jerk straight, reinvented cold fusion or something after drinking twenty dollar Fighting Cock bourbon one day. Or something) And they assembled monster corn and it escaped on the wind (that they should have known about now.) and Frankensteined all the neighborhood organic farmers fields. Booo
Found you on #NoSmallCreator and my husband and I really dig what you're doing! AND, now I'm very hungry. Lol. Seriously, though, great approach and great channel!
Thanks so much Liza! I really appreciate that! I love comedy so I'll be checking you out!! Glad to have you here. We have a nice little community we're building!
Just a suggestion, but McCormick actually makes a lime flavored mayo that is similar to the style of mayo that’s widely used in Mexico. That way you can have the lime flavor without the mess of a fresh squeeze of lime on top
I'd had both, with mayo and with Mexican crema. I hate the mayo version but LOVE the Mexican crema version. Do exactly what you did in this recipe, but just sub in the crema instead of mayo. It's amazing.
So glad I found this before I go shopping tomorrow to make elotes for football! I had NO idea what to look for when buying corn so thanks! Also I'm gonna try your recipe and also grill some and see what people like more! The braiding is so awesome and adds such an awesome touch to presentation!! Thanks for the video I just subbed bc I like your vibe
So glad I stumbled upon your channel! It's such a pleasure to watch you cook....so easy on the eyes and you provide really great information. Looking forward to seeing more 😀😊😉
Holy Mac-a-Roni that was awesome!! We found a salt substitute. Will see if I can find that kind of cheese. Hopefully it isn’t high in sodium. Love how you used the husk as well to be decorating & useful all in one! 👍
Thank you Terri! There has got to be some cheese that works, cotija is pretty bland, so and soft fluffy grated low sodium cheese that will work in its place!
Never heard of sumac; I'll look into it, though. I will be making this. I've had this but, they put too much mayo and that was all I tasted. I loved your explanation. And I always love when you turn off the lights, climb, and take that perfect picture. Love it.
Thank you so much!! Photography is another love of mine so I try to make it a part of the show. It also serves a purpose of having nice thumbs! Thanks for watching!
So corn we use as animal feed and highfructose corn syrup might be heavily modified but that is not the same corn we cultivate for direct to consumer sweet corn. Also the lack of kernels at the top isn't from modification. If anything, modification aims to correct that as much as possible. that's just lack of pollination
Missing kernels are because of lack of pollination. Each one of the silk strands correlates to an individual kernel. If that particular strand doesn’t receive pollen, the kernel won’t develop. Missing kernels means missing pollination which probably means missing pollinators.
Lack of kernels at the top isn't a GMO thing, it's a pollination thing. Growing corn is a crapshoot, sometimes. You'll have a lot more problems growing organic corn in the home garden then you'll find with GMO corn in the supermarket. (I'm a gardener and have frequently failed at growing organic corn.)
It is very hard to grow corn without insecticides because of corn earworms. It would be better to peel back the husks, de-silk, wash or even soak, then fold the cleaned husks back over the ears. You can then microwave and carry on as in the video.
Corn was actually genetically modified by humans hundreds of thousands of years ago by selective breeding and originally corn usually only had a couple kernels per ear

watched your video about 20 times to get it right to recreate.
Making it this weekend!

I agree.

Great video AND presenter!! Looks bomb! Can’t wait to try!
Make it off the cob too... that tastes even better in my opinion... holding the corn by the husk is pretty cool though...
Dude….that looks fantastic 🙌🏽
Bangin bro I love elotes
Found you on #NoSmallCreator and my husband and I really dig what you're doing! AND, now I'm very hungry. Lol. Seriously, though, great approach and great channel!

Just a suggestion, but McCormick actually makes a lime flavored mayo that is similar to the style of mayo that’s widely used in Mexico. That way you can have the lime flavor without the mess of a fresh squeeze of lime on top
It seems you really enjoyed that corn! Gonna try this soon now that they are in season.
Looks soooo delicious ❤🙏
Incomplete pollination is the reason for spotty kernel production.
Yes, and another cause of 'tip back' is the plant running out of nitrogen when filling and aborting those kernels.

Yea I don’t like too much mayo!! Thank you so much!
Me too! Awesome shots!
Your product photography is awesome. I really need to up my game like this when highlighting my woodworking too.
Thank you so much!! Photography is another love of mine so I try to make it a part of the show. It also serves a purpose of having nice thumbs! Thanks for watching!
NOT ANOTHER COOKING SHOW think you could do a photography tips episode at some point or work it into an episode?
Been thinking about it all morning because of your comment! Trying to figure out how to best do that within my channel
NOT ANOTHER COOKING SHOW well I'll be watching just in case. I love when William Walker does film school Fridays.
Foodie film school has a nice ring to it
best place i've had decent corn was in my mom's backyard when she attained some organic corn seeds from Laos.
How long did you broil it?
Dope dope dope.. dope brother. Well done.
haha! love that. Thank you man!!
Had to learn how to french braid before completing this.
Great info. Nothing like authentic
Thank so much!
Looks delicious Steve. Thanks for doing the research for us :)
Anytime my friend!! T'is my duty! 👮

I'm so glad you shared your research! This saved me a lot of time, and I wanted to know how it's authentically done! Well done 🙌🏿✌🏿🙏🏿
Perfection!
Looked awesome! Miss the grill though;)
Haha! Too much rain this week 🌧
Does the lime juice go into the Mayo/butter mix?
hahaha thats bc.. thats how they do it haha that was great. Awesome looking turn out
Haha thank you man! Hopes you’re well!

The way you cook reminds me of how I cook lol
You must be pretty dope. 😂😆
Great video once again! Now I need to go to a street fair. BTW: Some of the best corn comes from New Jersey.
That is the truth man! People don't realize the quality of produce you can get in the tri-state area.
Ended up here after watching babybackmaniacs video. Looking forward to binge watching your videos. New subscriber here!
Thank you Stuart!! Binging is my favorite thing ever! Thanks for being here!

Thank you man!! Much love!
GMOs are why food like corn is even edible to begin with!
I can’t believe I wasn’t subbed , sorry Steve ! Better late than never....lol
No worries brother!! Happy to have you here now!! Much Love Kent!
well done!
It is very hard to grow corn without insecticides because of corn earworms. It would be better to peel back the husks, de-silk, wash or even soak, then fold the cleaned husks back over the ears. You can then microwave and carry on as in the video.
I just made these. Holy shit, 10/10!
Any alternative if I do not have microwave
we ate it in restaurant in Las Vegas, it was DELICIOUS! But it feels like they used Mexican cream, not mayo
Hot dayum I love it when.your videis pop up in my recommendations.
Loved the video Steve
I just got a new way to enjoy my 🌽
Thanks man
Anytime, my friend!
Here from Justin’s channel
Hey man! Thanks for stopping by, really appreciate it! Justin is the best.
He also likes to be called Jason
I tried to grill/broil corn on a cob a couple times, but it turned out quite dry to my taste. Has anybody tried to boil it first?
ONE PIECE what are you a monk?!?!?! ;)
😂
I would say something tho I’ve seen a lot of people use takin not spices
Yup... Tajin and Chile Paquin.. That blend of red stuff he used was waaay off. Paprika?
what do you know about a french braid too cute lol
I ate a handful of popcorn on my way out the door to work, and I still have some of it stuck in my teeth. Major pain in the...
what kind of cheese is this?
wow
Haha thank you!
not really into corn but that one looks interesting
You may have to give this one a swing. It eat's more like a meal.
I'd love to but I don't know how to bite into it without breaking my braces haha I'd probably make a caprese salad instead ;)
cooking corn by boiled water with 1 or 2 epazote leaf ... then tell me how the taste is
where do you get your coke?
😂cuz that’s how they did it in Mexico😂
Written recipe plz
Corn was actually genetically modified by humans hundreds of thousands of years ago by selective breeding and originally corn usually only had a couple kernels per ear
That’s called selective breeding. They weren’t injecting the genes of one species into a vegetable like they do now
Killer!
This video is making me think of a not so appropriate song.
I can't even imagine! Been thinking on that for awhile!
the biggest sin is that he only made one elote.
I am a litlle late today
Better late than never. But I see you everywhere anyways lol
I love you ❤
