I love this video, but I have a small sticking point; barding is not _solely_ a term for horse armor, but also refers to a form of armor primarily composed of cloth or leather, which could either be worn on it's own, allowing for more mobility, or layered underneath plate or chainmail. Notably, plate and chainmail were, historically, almost _never_ worn without barding underneath (another specific name for human cloth armor is a brigantine)

-Water: Crying/scrying? GENIOUS!!! -Fire: STOP. THATS ENOUGH. This is now my favorite starter -Grass: FINALLY someone else sees that thing's horsiness! Also, the layers!!! A bard? Apollo adjacent. Also a flower? Like Hyacinthus, Apollo's lover!? Espinas from MH is in there too???? (lots of stretches, but stil, MY GODS) You COOKED. These are perfect and I will die of dissapointment because they are not official 😭
OH FUN FACT. Where i'm from in the UK. They also hung a monkey cause they thought it was a french spy. It's why people from that area are often referred too as "Monkey Hangers" The more you know :')
Damn right! Those monkeys are up to something??!! People often talk about the robot apocalypse or the zombie apocalypse, but nobody suspects the *monkey apocalypse.* Think about it. Hollywood popularized Planet of the Apes, Chimp co-stars, and even the phrase "Return to Monke?????" Hollywood is not run by lizard people, it's run by Monkey Men who're gathering intelligence on the human race and make us more docile and empathetic to their shadowy takeover when we just softly agree to hand them the nuclear codes bc "haha, silly monke don't know computer" and then BAM, humans go extinct. France and Britain were right to hang those monkeys! They were spies!!! This is why the proper shibboleth to scare monkeys is not "two birds, one stone" it's "two monkeys, one chainsaw!"
@@jenniferdaniels701 That’s the one. I just distinctly remember a songbook I had as a kid saying that the song was derived from the French tradition of eating songbirds and depicts a chef singing to a bird he intends to cook.
@@jenniferdaniels701 I believe the lyrics mention things like plucking feathers, and when the song was first sung, in colonial times, larks were game birds. You have to pluck bird feathers before you eat them.
This is why you're one of my favourite youtubers. You're always so in-depth with explaining the origins behind pokemon/your fakemon and present it in a way that's never boring or uninteresting and in a way that also makes me more interested about the inspirations behind their designs. Incredible choices for the starters and super cool typings/moves I'd say Inteleon is my favourite but their all amazing either way!
I like that you took three commonly hated upon starters and gave them an upgrade! I personally love all of these underrated starters, but these designs are killer!
I think Kalosian-Inteleon's ability should instead raise the accuracy of itself and its allies every turn its on the field. It would still be fitting and would also make for a very interesting support Pokemon in doubles formats.
Raising evasiveness in the rain was the first thing I thought of but now I’m thinking maybe it could do something like the pressure ability or drain HP from the opponent with every turn to add to the spectralness of it.
What if it raises both? This would also fit with the inspiration- Being able to always have effectively good luck with misses and hits once you’ve got enough cams up, or in other words, knowing what the future brings.
I think scrying bubbles would be balanced if entered the battlefield with one bubble and it's evasiveness drops by two stages if it gets hit. A couple bubbles getting popped on contact makes sense to me
Incineroar could become Andre the giant, an iconic french wrestler, in this case as a hero vs their villain origins, it would have to be much bigger with flaming mutton chops
I also want to see an Andre the giant incineror, also maybe a fat french cat, you could also give it a Marie Antoinette connection by making it love cake
Makes a hell of a lot more sense than a pig chef, lol. I'd rather never see Emboar again, though, or Infernape for that matter. Insults to my boi Blaziken the OG, the one, the only, the true
@frankcaggiano8282 I'd rather never see the pig again either, but in animated videos with anthropomorphic characters, pigs are commonly depicted as chefs. It goes to the saying "never trust a skinny chef" as it implies that they never taste their food, and tasting ones food for proper seasoning is kind of an important step.
I think the starts for Pokémon Legends Z-A will be: Timber, Geodude and Fletching. (Timber for construction) (Geodude for demolition) (Fletching for welding and air lifting large weights)
Honestly this video was very refreshing I feel like every poketuber is making the same video talking about Napoleon, it’s nice to see a more creative approach.
Definitely! I’m thinking GameFreak will go with some left field picks since we all originally thought of Serperior and Empoleon. Or maybe they will just do the obvious kind of like we figured out after Legends Arceus.
Heh^^ That Emboar was extremely inspired, love it! On a tangent, i also once invented an attack that felt similar to this fire types signature one. "Rope Burn" was a wrap type attack used by a sadistic Omastar and would cause guaranteed flinching if the opposing pkmn was suffering from a burn but fur every flinch the attack and special attack stats would get one rise (to show how the victim was struggling to excape from the pain.).
I do understand the thought that Empoleon and Serperior would be easy because of their inspirations, but that’s also exactly why I would want them. It would just be satisfying to have everything wrapped up so succinctly.
I absolutely love the Kalosian Emboar design. The Tepig line is already my 2nd favorite Fire-type starter family. Also, the Fire/Fairy typing you gave it is *chef's kiss* perfect!
I came up with a dual type gym leader a while back, a Fire/Fairy chef (that had a BBQ theming, since it was for a gym in Kansas City in a midwest-based region), and that Emboar variant would be the perfect Ace.
WHEN HE SAID "THIS IS THE FACE OF..." I IMMEDEATY SAID THE CORRECT TYPE, THE COLOR IS REALLY GIVING IT AWAY ( In a good way, that's amazing character/Pokemon design!! )
I don’t know why people are saying the starters are going to be based on the region; when Pokémon Legends: Z-A is taking place during redevelopment. I think we are going to have Pokémon that that help you in construction and physical labor to help along the redevelopment process.
I really like those ideas. It's definitely a great way to improve the Chickorita line. I also probably have a bit bias, but I love the Inteleon idea. It's too freaking cool. It's definitely my favorite of these. I wish it would be in the game.
Also, the French were the ones to create the code of Chivelry in the 13th century, which we associate with knights today; it's named for their word for knight, "chevalier," and during the reign of Charlemagne they also made some of the more recognizable contributions to the King Arthur mythos. Lancelot was a French author King Arthur OC to extol the virtues of courtly love, which was quite popular among French writers at the time; the freaking Round Table comes from Charlemagne and his knights; yes, really, Charlemagne and his knights would gather around a big round table to convene with reports and discuss war strategies, and when I say his knights, I'm talking about the elite knights Charlemagne promoted to his inner circle.
I see the phantom thief trope applied to intelion without a single mention of Monsieur LeBlank or the most gentlemanly thief that ever was: Arsene Lupin
I will be disappointed if they use anything other than Meganium. It doesn't have to be the version from this video, but the poor Chikorita line has suffered for decades, it's time for them to get some much needed love.
@@matthewpelletier6900 yeah, why would they give a Pokémon who is OP like Serperior a buff, people just don’t give a s*** about the other starters they don’t like and want Pokémon like Greninja Charizard Sceptile to get all the love and every fake and not the others it’s just so unfair
The fact that you didn’t mention Quaquaval could become a Black Swan when mentioning it should be more serious and it’s previous evolution is ballet just broke my heart 😭
fun fact! in the indigo disk trailer, Rowlet was shown alongside Snivy, Oshawott was shown alongside Piplup, and Cyndaquil was shown alongside... Torchic. this does not seem like coincidence to me
The only problem is that the starters have a fairly high chance of getting megas , and blaisiken already has one. I doubt they'd leave it out or give it a second like charizard or Mewtwo , blaisiken isn't on that level of fame
@@TyancookThe way I see it, Combusken will always evolve into this hypothetical “Kalosian” Blaziken, but you can find Hoennian Blaziken, plus its mega form through other means, kinda like how Johtonian Sneasel and Alolan Vulpix were in Legends Arceus despite Hisuian Sneasel and Kantonian Vulpix being regularly available throughout the game.
17:00 I'm not trying to make excuses, but when crabs and lobsters die, the bacteria in them breaks them down quickly and makes ammonia, meaning you'd get food poisoning. You COULD put them out of their misery first, but you'd have to get them in the pot IMMEDIATELY afterwards, cause they start decomposing FAST
Maybe we just shouldn't bother with them then. They're entirely overrated as is, lobster and crab are very, very mid and not as fancy or special as what people pay for it, lol.

That inteleon story/design is one of the coolest things i've seen. I like the fact you diverge from the typical snivy/piplup/scorbunny idea and come up with other designs that fit the narrative. I think if we do get snivy/piplup/litten or scorbunny we will get mega's for them since they are already french inspired and they just get more powerfull. About intelleon though even with low def and hp, if its speed stat is fast enough you could just substitute protect untill you get to +6 evasion also that was the best sponsor video ever
WAIT, THAT DROWNED BIRD YOU EAT UNDER A BLESSED NAPKIN IS REAL CUISINE?!?! I honestly thought something as needlessly cruel as that was just made-up for an episode of "American Dad".
@gheleorm8894 A quick Google search shows that the bird is called the ortolan bunting or just the ortolan and apparently France had restricted its use in 1999 due to low population numbers but didn't really enforce it until 2007.
You didnt have to go so hard for Intelion, I love it already but this this does put a smile on my face. . . Also considering the soul bubble concept I imagine it would be fitting if it also bubbled the souls of victims so it can pull information out of them, or perhaps to turn into shadowy puppets to further epand its spy web with later. I could Imagine it surprising a Pokemon, bubbling their soul and hiding it up their sleeve then basically sending the newly made spy back into the population. I also wonder if a movement ability (in its lore atleast) based on walking in a giant flying bubble world work out.
I love how you took 3 starters I don't care much about (in their final forms) and made them more interesting. I'd much rather they do something new with less popular Pokemon when making new forms than giving fan favourites a new design which will inevitably fail to live up to the original
One thing to note about the starters, if we base them off of certain aspects of PLA, then they probably wouldn’t get brand new signature abilities. They also wouldn’t have any abilities in game, like PLA
Yes, I love that you gave Emboar some attention! It's my favorite Unova starter purely because of nostalgia, and seeing it turn sadistic is pretty funny
For Searing Embrace 21:51 is bound especially a cool addition, because, intenzional or not, in some fairy tales, if you eat the food of fairies, you could not leave their word.... Forevet
Even though its a wolf-centric legend, a Loup Garou inspired Incineroar would be kinda cool as his Kalos/insert name for past Kalos/ian form. (Note, SMT V gave me the basis for said speculation, and I can’t unsee it anymore)
I feel like that'd work for Chimchar's line too, since monkeys are known to climb so it wouldn't that far out of reach for Kalos to have especially bred Chimchars to clean out their chimneys, and then it evolved to produce the same toxins that it was covered in as a Chimchar.
Glad you've come up with a Fire/Fairy type. Whenever I conceptualize the type, I always default to a nature spirit that creates small forest fires to burn away dead underbrush and germinate seeds that need to be roasted.
This might be the first time I’ve wanted to pick chickorita. I LOVE the new meganium, great work on these starters, and I can’t wait to see what they actually come up with for the games
They thought Stegosaurus’s plates worked like shingles on a roof... so THAT’S where the name “roofed lizard” came from! I honestly never knew about that until today!😂😂
6:17 OMG wait this place is definitely the inspiration for that one route/castle place in X and Y where they have Honedge and Espurr in the fields (and the Daycare Center nearby)
Whoa. These are some great ideas. Personally I’m torn between Emboar and Inteleon (Meganium is interesting, too, but I just like the other two more). Emboar’s typing and theming relates very well with me, but its sadistic personality is throwing me off a bit. Meanwhile Inteleon is solid all around: a “phantom” thief with bubble cams is very interesting. Overall great work on these, Lockstin.
Nice that you acknowledge the easy route before diving into your own personal choice, helps make the video more fun. Do you intend do have another prediction video after the official starter choices are revealed?
I think it will fall into the same category as the generation it comes from, there for a knight, magician and a spy/ninja Knight: emboar Magician: meganium Spy: empoleon

I thought I wanted Serperior, until I saw this Meganium concept. I need this.
-Water: Crying/scrying? GENIOUS!!!
-Fire: STOP. THATS ENOUGH. This is now my favorite starter
-Grass: FINALLY someone else sees that thing's horsiness! Also, the layers!!! A bard? Apollo adjacent. Also a flower? Like Hyacinthus, Apollo's lover!? Espinas from MH is in there too???? (lots of stretches, but stil, MY GODS)
You COOKED. These are perfect and I will die of dissapointment because they are not official 😭
OH FUN FACT.
Where i'm from in the UK.
They also hung a monkey cause they thought it was a french spy.
It's why people from that area are often referred too as "Monkey Hangers"
The more you know :')
Hartlepool, a dark and sinful place.
@@defeatstatistics7413 I did not expect someone to get that haha
Damn right! Those monkeys are up to something??!!
People often talk about the robot apocalypse or the zombie apocalypse, but nobody suspects the *monkey apocalypse.*
Think about it. Hollywood popularized Planet of the Apes, Chimp co-stars, and even the phrase "Return to Monke?????"
Hollywood is not run by lizard people, it's run by Monkey Men who're gathering intelligence on the human race and make us more docile and empathetic to their shadowy takeover when we just softly agree to hand them the nuclear codes bc "haha, silly monke don't know computer" and then BAM, humans go extinct. France and Britain were right to hang those monkeys! They were spies!!!
This is why the proper shibboleth to scare monkeys is not "two birds, one stone" it's "two monkeys, one chainsaw!"
Bright powder+Protect+ Scrying Bubbles= unkillable
17:28 Ah. They made a French children’s song about that, I think. Or at least about cheerfully mutilating a songbird in preparation for cooking it.
Ah yes, Alouette.
Alouette. I've only seen it as a French Canadian folk song. It means lark (the bird). I never heard about eating larks.
I know that birds need to be plucked, mammals skinned, etc. But that doesn't mean that eating songbirds is well known. @@Monkebs45
Question: Did Intelion kill people to get their souls or did random Gastly and Yamask donate themselves to the lizard boi?
This is why you're one of my favourite youtubers.
You're always so in-depth with explaining the origins behind pokemon/your fakemon and present it in a way that's never boring or uninteresting and in a way that also makes me more interested about the inspirations behind their designs.
Incredible choices for the starters and super cool typings/moves I'd say Inteleon is my favourite but their all amazing either way!
Then you get idiots like Verlisify who thinks your vids are trash and fake...
@@L-and-P That would be cool too!!!
Could also be the hunchback of notre dame, a "monster" that is actually a big softy, like Incineroar's whole act as a heel
@@NightmareShadows13 das crazy. I can't recall ever having seen this trope in my life
I think the starts for Pokémon Legends Z-A will be: Timber, Geodude and Fletching.
(Timber for construction)
(Geodude for demolition)
(Fletching for welding and air lifting large weights)
This meganium was fantastic. I
could not stop praising it. The desing, the lore, the references. JUST PERFECTION!!!!
that comma in the "my wife, cat and i" is the MVP of the ad segment
I do understand the thought that Empoleon and Serperior would be easy because of their inspirations, but that’s also exactly why I would want them. It would just be satisfying to have everything wrapped up so succinctly.

TOO FAST FOR EYES
I absolutely love the Kalosian Emboar design. The Tepig line is already my 2nd favorite Fire-type starter family. Also, the Fire/Fairy typing you gave it is *chef's kiss* perfect!
I really want a Fire/Fairy Type Pokemon because it would be very offensively strong with good Resistances.
Emboar fan W
"Stuck with chikorita" She needs a something so bad tho. Also, grass/steel typing is actually really good. Just look at ferothorn.
Let's go for "La chanson de Roland" !
I see the phantom thief trope applied to intelion without a single mention of Monsieur LeBlank or the most gentlemanly thief that ever was: Arsene Lupin
Glad we can all agree that Serperior is gonna be a Z-A starter
I'm gonna disagree. It's gonna be something unexpected.
Torchic. this does not seem like coincidence to me
A rooster is a national animal of France. Makes sense.
two birds with fairly similar body types, i doubt it.
Maybe they make blaziken into a ballerina?
Bro, I envision the learning you do for all this information.. It's highly entertaining! Keep at it ❤
As dark and cruel as it is, I'm in love with Kalosian Emboar. 🥰
To be frank,I love it when there is a cruel fairy type
I like how you included the night gags, whose pleasure comes from corrupting mortals
They started as prison food@@BusinessSkrub
@@BusinessSkrub theyre made of meat so theyre made to be eaten
@@thebookless3381 we're made of meat, so we're meant to be eaten as well then, yeah? Brilliant, you can be first on the menu ;) But seriously, I'm not arguing for us not to eat them because it's mean, they're just gross, overrated, incredibly mid seafoods. Almost any fish just tastes better and has a more pleasant texture, even octopus is ten times as delicious as lobster or crab
@@BusinessSkrub for tastes colors I guess
Also yeah we're kinda meant to be eaten, but there's this bothersome thing called morality and stuff that gets in the way, annoying right?
I was waiting for this video to come out and you never disappoint! Awesome concepts!!!
16:25 "I find everyones pain funny, but my own. I'm french." ^^

About intelleon though even with low def and hp, if its speed stat is fast enough you could just substitute protect untill you get to +6 evasion
also that was the best sponsor video ever
WAIT, THAT DROWNED BIRD YOU EAT UNDER A BLESSED NAPKIN IS REAL CUISINE?!?! I honestly thought something as needlessly cruel as that was just made-up for an episode of "American Dad".
Hi, French persone here.
Never heard of that reciepe.
Must be a thing of a long long past no one knows about nowadays.
@gheleorm8894 A quick Google search shows that the bird is called the ortolan bunting or just the ortolan and apparently France had restricted its use in 1999 due to low population numbers but didn't really enforce it until 2007.
@@NightmareShadows13Thanks! sounds correct to my memory.
I thought it was made up for Succession…
You didnt have to go so hard for Intelion, I love it already but this
this does put a smile on my face. .
It's great seeing love for Chikorita, a line in desperate need for uniqueness, rivalling Cyndaquil.
I actually love these ideas. Like every part of the design was very well thought out and I just love it.
Forevet
Big fan of this Meganium. They deserve so much more love.
Even though its a wolf-centric legend, a Loup Garou inspired Incineroar would be kinda cool as his Kalos/insert name for past Kalos/ian form. (Note, SMT V gave me the basis for said speculation, and I can’t unsee it anymore)
Yes, Too cool !
Let's go for "La Bête du Gévaudan" !
I love midnight Lycanroc but why is it in Alola
It makes sense for midday and dusk because its a specie of hawaian wolf
If we do get your version of Kalosian Emboar, there's a high chance someone will make a Starved Eggman reference
Serperior is my hope because not only does it fit perfectly but it would get a new form possibly and I want my favorite Pokemon to get one
Serperior is a great favorite! My favorite starter!
Nice delta serperior pic. Pokemon insurgence is such a good game
As a French guy, I can't get enough of Lockstin trying to say "joie de viv-era" properly 😂
Hehe! Un jour peut-être y arrivera-t-il ^^
@@gheleorm8894 ouais, un jour peut-être ! Saluons quand même l'effort x)
I saw a cool idea that Incineroar becomes a Fire/Poison Chminey Sweeper where it becomes a black cat covered in soot.
I really like this, it gives Tepig the second chance that for so long only I thought it deserved.
They thought Stegosaurus’s plates worked like shingles on a roof... so THAT’S where the name “roofed lizard” came from! I honestly never knew about that until today!😂😂
Kalosian Intelion ability who give a great use to doesn't check accuracy moves like Aerial Ace
19:56: Well, I would definitely be one of Kalos Emboar's victims. Heck, it would probably get me for calling the Polaner Allfruit mere "Jelly."
6:17 OMG wait this place is definitely the inspiration for that one route/castle place in X and Y where they have Honedge and Espurr in the fields (and the Daycare Center nearby)
Serperior needs love, lots of it
Agreeee
Yes!
Meganium too 😢
On the Contrary, Superior is doing just fine thanks to its hidden ability.
Serperior is so damn good tho, Meganium is in much more need of love than it.
The thought that went into this is brilliant. Someone at gamefreak and Pokémon need to hire you for lore and story development.
I'd take the new Intellion in a heart-beat. I'm upset it isn't ORIGINALLY a Water/Ghost-type, it would've been so cool.
A new Neo Ghetsis video AND a speculative ZA video?!? You spoil us, Lockstin
don’t tell him that, let this keep happening 😈
17:10 yay ortelans, they're craaaazy
Lockstin gets me more invested in Pokémon then Pokémon itself.
This feels like a throw dart at a board kinda prediction for trio pairing and I love it lol
Nice that you acknowledge the easy route before diving into your own personal choice, helps make the video more fun.
Do you intend do have another prediction video after the official starter choices are revealed?
Daaaaaamn that Kalosian Inteleon is wayyyyyyy too perfect!! Extremely cool lore behind it and SO well executed!
No one:
Lockstin: Pokemon Legends *ZUH*
I think it will fall into the same category as the generation it comes from, there for a knight, magician and a spy/ninja
Knight: emboar
Magician: meganium
Spy: empoleon
You made Meganium look and act even more like a friend! I love it! :D

LITERALLY my favorite starters of every type. HOW WOULD I CHOOSE?!
(i'd have to get all three using Home, naturally)
Torterra as the original French Tarasque but with added influence from the DND Tarrasque would be amazing though
After hearing what gets done to those poor birds, I would personally like to introduce this Reigonal Emboar to my Choice Banded Head Smash, courtesy of my Hisuian Arcanine.
