I love making Fakémon and especially etymology. I’ve made 43 in my life so far and every single one is different and does its own thing in its own unique way. If I were to give other people 1 piece of advice, it would be to think of a name earlier on than after you’ve designed it, since it’s way easier to make a design when you have a name for it, at least in my opinion. The first time I did this, I realised I was happier with how it turned out and how well it fit with the concept.
Apparently my taste in Pokémon is questionable because a lot of my favorites were in this video 😅 Klefki, Palossand, Cryogonal, Stonjourner... and Klinklang is one of my top favorites! Love all of these fakemon designs though. These artists are incredible.
11:51 Exactly what I thought the moment you popped it on screen! Definitely looks like a 'mon that could be a sort of rival to Makuhita/Hariyama or even Meditite/Medicham in Hoenn!
Hey, Ron. Great video! Showcased many cool fakemon artists! On the technical part, I think the greenscreen was a good addition, and the way you incorporated recording errors sounded natural and funny. Last year you did an experiment with leaving the audio more raw, with some mistakes etc., and wasn't too successful. But this one sounded much better! Happy new year!
One thin I love about pokemon designs is that there’s a pokemon for everyone. They’re not all badass, they’re not all cutesie, they’re not all edgy, nor cutesie. There’s a concept for each. This causes a lot of disappointment for a lot of people: “Ohh I wanted a dolphin superhero that was badass, not kinda goofy!’ But that’s where fakemon come in, and why I love them. They fill niches that the real things do not, and that doesn’t mean Gamefreak does a bad job! It’s just that the possibilities are, literally, endless. Fakemons aren’t better, and Pokemon aren’t better either! They’re niches that try to encapsulate everyone, and that’s the joy of it.
I think bramblin and brambleghast are so underrated, I don't get why so many people don't like it. I think it's ok when Pokémon don't go crazy with designs. Not everything needs so many layers of design philosophy and inspiration. It's just a little rascal
Ehm sorry to burst your bubble, but brambleghast has layers of inspiration: it is so obviously inspired by one of the most iconic art movements in history, cubism, and one of the most well known artist worldwide, Pablo Picasso, who guess where he comes from... Spain aka Paldea
First upload of 2024! Happy New Year, Ron! Excited for what you have to offer this year! I’m especially excited for more collabs like the 10 Poketubers series and the Cartoon Characters into Pokemon series!
Bellibolt does look like real frogs though, there are many frogs out there, like pac man frogs, that look like blobs. Plus theres the avocado inspiration too, which is pretty creative.
I love fakemon and how the artists take so much time to create them. I love the art in this video with so much variety of artists and art styles! The artists of these fakemon and more should definitely be more popular. An incredible video.
Great video as always! One fakemon line I really like is enigmite and enigmantis from pokemon Sage, bascially the same concept as rabsca and rellor but more appealing imo
1:19 Wow! It’s cool that you used thiscatdraw’s gholdenego redesign in that first part of the video! I always love their redesigns. But why didn’t you credit them in the video or the description like the rest of the pieces? Or the other pieces in this part of the video?
I agree about Volpan. I remember seeing this when it was designed and found it amazing, the design, the pose, the perfect candidate for electric/fighting type combo.
is everyone missing that flamigo's body is a literal boxing glove?? Lol. i think it's one of the best pokemon designs in all of the games. I am admittedly partial to simplicity, but the whole concept is so damn good. also, it should be said, every damn pokemon you were meh on are some of my favorites of all time :P Cryogonal, Ledian, Flamigo, Swanna. As i said, i do tend to gravitate to more simplistic pokemon.
I agree here. Simple designs don't necessarily make them worse or in need of embellishments, In fact, I think a lot of the suggested fakemon in this video are way too overly designed, like the Grafaiai and Garbodor inspired ones. I like Toucannon and Flamigo for that very reason.
This is so cool, I think it's fascinating how much Pokémon fans love Pokémon, that they're willing to create entirely new creatures and games out of passion for the series. Rarely do video games have fanbases with this level of dedicated fan creations, I can only think of Skyrim and The Sims. Also - I think one of the most difficult parts of designing Fakémon are having them actually read as Pokémon. Even though these are fan creations, some of the designs are essentially held back because they don't really assimilate well into the world of Pokémon, not because they're bad designs. That being said, all of these designs are cool and valuable in their own respect. I think Toucusky's design was the most authentic but Kipine and Cymurk are my favourite concepts here
Silverava. Man, i remember that mon way back when I started making fakemon myself! Among the best ones created back in deviantArt Also thank you for the Burrolar and Chilligon shoutouts and analysis! And my friends and people i know where showcased here too, thats cool!
Tandemaus and Maushold are also based on the Sylvanian Family toys! Hence their general aesthetic, family theme, and little tagged outfits. You instantly see the relation when you look into it
A lot of these fake Pokémon are pretty cool and some of them are so much better than the original. Speaking of fake Pokémon, I'd love to see a water cat evolutionary line. With the starter Pokémon, we have fire cat and grass cat, but having a water cat evolutionary line would complete the cat starter collection.
Hey Truegreen7, would love to see you turn some Digimon into Pokemon. You can choose your own Digimon you want to change, but if I can make a request, I would like to see how you turn Lunamon or one of its primary evolutions into a pokemon.
Among my own fakemon that I came up with that now have official pokemon based on the same concept- I have Quartzap, an electric/rock lodestone fakemon that evolves into Lodestorm, and then evolves again into a gem fakemon called Thundiamond. A pumpkin fakemon called Jacturn that evolves into a Grass/Fire fakemon with a burning pumpkin head and a slender viney body called Hallowraith. A gold coin called Mimicoin that evolves into a treasure chest mimic called Chaochest, with an Ambush form and Attack form. a Water-type grub called Grubble that evolves into a Water/Bug diving bell spider Spidefend and Spidiver. and a snowy koala called Snoala.
Ron i wanted to say i realy like your videos, and also wnted to jgive an idea for fakemons- turning years into pokemon using some moments from that year that immediately when you think about that year, hope you see this comment❤
I have seen several of these fakemon before and come to love them over time, getting to know more about the artists like Diapause, Darksilvania and GregAndrade for instance. I especially love Silverara's Volpan, it is an absolute favorite of mine and I wish it were a real pokemon and it would fit perfectly in a China based region. Plenty of your fakemon are very good too!
I do think gamefreak should hire you tho, you have done such a fantastic job of recreating their artstyle that your fakemon look like they’re actually real seeing your fakemon in the next gen would be so delightful as someone who’s watched your fakemon journey throughout the years, and if gamefreak hired you that would look really good on your resume lol
Volpan is awesome! I've never seen it before now. Electric types are my all time favorite. Until now, Toxtricity was one of my favorite designs for electric types....but this critter is so much better.
Yesss🎉🎉🎉🎉 what kind of fake pokemon that can be the same but really different from the eeveelution? How would this fake pokemon evolve? What would be the different elements? What other emotions would evolve? How many would that be? Would it matter what terrain I would be in?
If Pawmot had a regional variant, I think they should do a design based on doctors and nurses, since them using paws to deliver electric shocks are based on defibrillators in the hospitals and they have a move called Revival Blessing. And the typing could be Electric/Fairy. I think this would be great for a regional variant, making them take a slight role of how Blisseys quickly rush to a trainer if they got hurt and help them out, kinda like what happened in Legends Arceus. I love Pawmot, and I think it’s official design is neat, especially since the arms reminds me of the sleeves on a baggy sweatshirt or hoodie, but I get why not many fans are crazy about how Pawmot turned out, but the Electric/Fighting typing more than makes up for that one flaw, As for the Fairy typing and why I chose that, I’d like to think that a Fairy type Pokémon would be perfect, since a couple moves have a healing move. The regional variant Pawmit could be like an assistant Pokemon to a doctor or nurse that tends to both Pokemon and humans, and this Pawmot would especially useful for a traveling trainer, like a living first aid kit. Might have to sketch some designs now that I typed this out!
this is unpopular but I actually kinda like bruxish I don't think its mouth looks that weird and I love its shiny and its colours and pattern are very pleasing to look at
4:44 I appreciate your praise of these artists, but also, you are amazing at designing fakemon! No offense to the artists you showcase here, but in my opinion, many of your designs rival, if not surpass most if not all of these! I can easily tell emotions and personality in nearly all of your works. You're great at this, own it!
I love this video, it not only shows off other artist and the creativity of the fakemon community, it's a nice way to engage in the conversation bc yeah it's very unfair to compare pokemon to fakemon when the comparison isn't called for, while this makes sense. Can't wait for my fakemon content!
Pokémon Sage's Scovallope is a better Grass/Fire concept, IMO. Scovillain is cool, but idk. Something about a horned chili rabbit with a tuft of fire for the rabbit tail is more creative to me.
actually i think maushold and tandemaus being so simple makes sense given its inspiration being calico critters/sylvanian families which are small little plush animals that are simple, nothing really much to it which honestly works well with maushold
Can't agree with Palossand, Garbodor, Brambleghast, and Toucannon. Palossand is an amazing concept on its own, a _ghost_ that possesses a child's sandcastle-making tools. In lore, it functions almost as a mimic, or pitfall trap, sucking in unaware Pokemon into a whirlpool of sand to... well, consume them. The little shovel being a sort of ghostly radar on its head is a nice touch, and I love how you can see through Sandyghast's "mouth." It's such a novel idea for a sand castle Pokemon, I think making it a more generic "living sand monster" takes away from its creativity. Garbodor _could_ be better, but I think the "heap of trash" design Gamefreak went with is infinitely more charming than the "toxic sludge/sewers" design many fan re-designs go for. Also... THAT FACE. It's so cuuuuute! I wish Garbodor had more identifiable pieces of trash sticking out from its body, actually. We already have a toxic sludge Pokemon in the form of Muk, so a trash bag 'mon was a novel and funny idea that too many people hated just for being kinda ugly (which is fine, not every Pokemon has to be elegant or cool). Brambleghast is just... perfect, imo. It's so weird and unexpected, so _unlike_ most Pokemon, that I actually like it more. The Fakemon you showed off look more like what I would _expect_ from Gamefreak if I heard "tumbleweed Pokemon," making them _less_ interesting. I _love_ how Brambleghast is completely hollow with little seeds for eyes. Mwah. Perfection. Toucannon is just an _awesome_ design. No offense, but this was one of the ones that really made me go, "Huh?" when you showed the "better" Fakemon. That Fakemon is a completely generic bird Pokemon design, and furthermore looks nothing like a toucan at all. Toucannon fits the tropical themes of Alola _much_ better, AND its bill looking like a temperature scale (and having a signature move that inflicts Burn) is an excellent nod to the biology of real toucans - which is that they expel most of their body heat through their bill, making it hot to the touch! The real winners of your list are Scyther and Mightyena's substitutes. Those are just amazing.
@@wegs1756 And both are literally just tumble weeds..they look exactly like that..just with faces. It's really not that creative, that's like calling voltorb or seel peak creativity lol
@@wegs1756 This is like complaining that you're getting a fancy cake and one slightly-less fancy cake. If it could be liked as a single-stage, that means each design is good, right? I think it changes enough. Plenty of mons evolve to not look much different. It gets a lot thornier, has crests around the eyes - which are now 2 different colors - and gets a sort of "toothy grin" under the eyes. I mean what would you want out of an evolution? People complain about mons that don't change much, or just add more of the same thing (like Diglett), but I think that would've been a hilarious idea for an evolution. Just a pile of Bramblin stuck together, which is a real phomenon (and pain in the ass for farmers in the mid-west).
Very few of these I would prefer over the pokemon we have already. The Greedent and Cryogonal fakemon being the standouts. All the artists did a wonderful job though.
The issue with sawk and throh is they was originally based on the red and blue oni from Japan. They had demonic horns and traditional oni outfits however when they was going to make the mons they changed the idea a bit fearing that people in some countries like the west would push for them to be changed due to the oni or demonic nature so they lost the horns and gave them the marshal art outfits while keeping the red and blue coloring to symbolize what they was originally. Sawk is one of my favorite fighting types.
@@jaschabull2365 I doubt that. Looking at how things are developed the side legends are usually around the last ones created in the generation. Given that sawk and throh would have been made before the genies.
@@nathanmcclung3564 By the sounds of an interview that the two pokémons' Bulbapedia article links to, it sounds as if the Forces of Nature were invented later, but it was still before the game's release, so both the Forces of Nature and the fighting types were altered to be more distinct from each other, with tornadus being turned red to green, and throh and sawk having their horns replaced with brow-like facial patterns.
With how many monster designers are out there, who are so skilled at worldbuilding their creatures, it's a shame more Monster Tamer games with the Pokémon aesthetic and vibe don't exist. We got like...maybe 3.

Even though you didn’t design any Pokémon in this video it is still quality content and I would love to see more
I like to imagine Ron would like curse and do some terrible stuff at the end and you comment before finishing the video so you had to live with this.
Apparently my taste in Pokémon is questionable because a lot of my favorites were in this video 😅 Klefki, Palossand, Cryogonal, Stonjourner... and Klinklang is one of my top favorites!
Love all of these fakemon designs though. These artists are incredible.
Dont u like pokemon with emotions...?
I'm into objectmons too
@@sebastianbjorkman4273you when people have a different taste in pokemon: 🤬🤬🤬
11:51 Exactly what I thought the moment you popped it on screen! Definitely looks like a 'mon that could be a sort of rival to Makuhita/Hariyama or even Meditite/Medicham in Hoenn!
Hey, Ron. Great video! Showcased many cool fakemon artists!
On the technical part, I think the greenscreen was a good addition, and the way you incorporated recording errors sounded natural and funny. Last year you did an experiment with leaving the audio more raw, with some mistakes etc., and wasn't too successful. But this one sounded much better!
Happy new year!
Agreed! This format was more engaging, and the errors come across as more personal. I really enjoy how Ron's channel has been evolving lately!
I see Pawmot
I immediately think
"Oh no, Moxie is gonna throw hands."
I love the inclusion of your narration “bloopers”. Really fun video too!
Both Olymphica and Flaceiver are my favorite Fakemon in this video 💕
One thin I love about pokemon designs is that there’s a pokemon for everyone. They’re not all badass, they’re not all cutesie, they’re not all edgy, nor cutesie. There’s a concept for each. This causes a lot of disappointment for a lot of people: “Ohh I wanted a dolphin superhero that was badass, not kinda goofy!’
But that’s where fakemon come in, and why I love them.
@@indivem You say "sorry to burst your bubble" as though revealing cool details about a design choice will make me go "damn, guess I hate it now".
@user-py8oj5yv4m congratulations on your opinion. Doesn't change my mind though, people are allowed to like dumb things
Plus theres the avocado inspiration too, which is pretty creative.
bellibolt looks more like a toad to me lol

I love fakemon and how the artists take so much time to create them. I love the art in this video with so much variety of artists and art styles! The artists of these fakemon and more should definitely be more popular. An incredible video.
Great video as always! One fakemon line I really like is enigmite and enigmantis from pokemon Sage, bascially the same concept as rabsca and rellor but more appealing imo
Love the video! t is not just a fakemon showcase, but also a discussion of designs and concepts=3
Remember, better designs are not simply more detailed designs or designs with more inspirations.
And that's why I hate Aromatisse
The best inspiration does nothing If they Design ends Up Not hitting right. Aromatise has great inspirations and Misses every single mark

Wow!
@@sgraves6408 toucannon is literally my favorite starter route bird lol. we definitely have similar tastes, friend.
I love Ron talking, would love to see more vids like this!!
Slurpuff is top-tier... I love the cupcake dog! I also like the alternate you showcased!
I think Toucusky's design was the most authentic but Kipine and Cymurk are my favourite concepts here
Fun fact : Aastic is a Hindi word which means "someone pious" like someone who is deep into prayers and gods, so the name fits shinastic so much !!
My friend made a fakemon years ago named Bramblin', which was a timbleweed with root legs that runs around
That electric red panda was my favorite fakemon and is still one of my favorite
The fakemon are neat and I 100% agree with your opinions Ron and the fakemon in this video are neat
Cymurk, Olymphica, and Arjibii are in an inspired game called Buddymon (but not out yet)
Silverava. Man, i remember that mon way back when I started making fakemon myself! Among the best ones created back in deviantArt
Also thank you for the Burrolar and Chilligon shoutouts and analysis! And my friends and people i know where showcased here too, thats cool!
Keep up the excellent work.
I think the only fake ones i liked better were Volpan and the Klinklang one. Most of them just didn't feel like Pokémon to me.
Hey Truegreen7, would love to see you turn some Digimon into Pokemon. You can choose your own Digimon you want to change, but if I can make a request, I would like to see how you turn Lunamon or one of its primary evolutions into a pokemon.
that would be cool but if I would request someone to my favorite animal into a pokemon that's a soul reaper
The set up for this video is so cool and unique!!! I like how Ron seems like he’s reporting
Among my own fakemon that I came up with that now have official pokemon based on the same concept-
I have Quartzap, an electric/rock lodestone fakemon that evolves into Lodestorm, and then evolves again into a gem fakemon called Thundiamond.
I really like this concept, you handled it very respectfully
10:59 is that a unintentional pun? Cuz Orebeetle is mad genuis, not just the design but the Pkmn itself as well.
It takes a lot to get me to audibly laugh out loud when I’m by myself but. This 6:05 got me lmao
I do think gamefreak should hire you tho, you have done such a fantastic job of recreating their artstyle that your fakemon look like they’re actually real seeing your fakemon in the next gen would be so delightful as someone who’s watched your fakemon journey throughout the years, and if gamefreak hired you that would look really good on your resume lol
hey i had an idea for a fakemon video! what if you turned disney villains into pokemon?
I love Pawmot, and I think it’s official design is neat, especially since the arms reminds me of the sleeves on a baggy sweatshirt or hoodie, but I get why not many fans are crazy about how Pawmot turned out, but the Electric/Fighting typing more than makes up for that one flaw,
As for the Fairy typing and why I chose that, I’d like to think that a Fairy type Pokémon would be perfect, since a couple moves have a healing move.
The regional variant Pawmit could be like an assistant Pokemon to a doctor or nurse that tends to both Pokemon and humans, and this Pawmot would especially useful for a traveling trainer, like a living first aid kit.
Might have to sketch some designs now that I typed this out!
10:31 THANK YOU! I’ve been saying that for years!
this is unpopular but I actually kinda like bruxish I don't think its mouth looks that weird and I love its shiny and its colours and pattern are very pleasing to look at
4:44 I appreciate your praise of these artists, but also, you are amazing at designing fakemon! No offense to the artists you showcase here, but in my opinion, many of your designs rival, if not surpass most if not all of these! I can easily tell emotions and personality in nearly all of your works. You're great at this, own it!
7:30 That guy looks like Omega from Sonic tbh
The sand critter that adds shells and sand could have Shore Up as an ability and be a second user of Decorate as a buff move
I love this video, it not only shows off other artist and the creativity of the fakemon community, it's a nice way to engage in the conversation bc yeah it's very unfair to compare pokemon to fakemon when the comparison isn't called for, while this makes sense. Can't wait for my fakemon content!
Throh and Sawk are the Bert and Ernie of Pokémon
Pokémon Sage's Scovallope is a better Grass/Fire concept, IMO. Scovillain is cool, but idk. Something about a horned chili rabbit with a tuft of fire for the rabbit tail is more creative to me.
actually i think maushold and tandemaus being so simple makes sense given its inspiration being calico critters/sylvanian families which are small little plush animals that are simple, nothing really much to it which honestly works well with maushold
No matter what, I really love the OG Pokemon design... 'coz it relates to its pokemon entry dex.
Other artists: make fakemon case they like pokemon
Me: makes fakemon because I hate the recent pokemon
Brambleghast looks too much like Bramblin though, if it was a single stage evolution it would be less hated
Ohmygoodness Ron I almost spat out my coffee all over my PC setup when you said you like Luxray more than us xDDD What a great laugh to start the day!
4:45 The squirrel fakemon gives me Scrat vibes
God I love looking at all the fakemon people create, it sucks that they'll never be in the game though :(
Very few of these I would prefer over the pokemon we have already. The Greedent and Cryogonal fakemon being the standouts. All the artists did a wonderful job though.
Those were cool! I wish some of these were real.
Wasn't part of the reason they didn't keep their horns because that would make them look too similar to tornadus and thundurus?
