In this Voice Teacher Reacts to Creep by Radiohead I was very moved. There's something special about hearing a great song by the original writer! Even though it's been covered by everyone...and some great singers! I still loved something about this version better. It's raw and authentic and I could really feel his sadness and desire to be special...We've all been there...I know I have.

There is genuine PAIN in that last cry of "Run" he sang that just cuts into you if you've ever had a crush that bad, or wanted to be accepted that badly and grabs you by the throat. Easily one of the most emotional performances I've ever had the pleasure of hearing.

I am unaware of any other equal moments of *TRUE* pure _raw_ honest Emotional talent in a song recorded live...
you can hear where it's *_supposed_* to stop... but the *Actuality* of *REALLY LIVING* the emotion would not let him stop. Breaks me every time.

Where I End & You Begin is such an underrated song. So beautifully composed.
He means means EVERY SINGLE WORD he sings from inside, you can hear the pain the frustration it is an epic performance bc we can all feel it
You can always tell when a song like that is written by the singer, it adds an emotional depth that is otherwise absent.
All you need to know about Radiohead: They are the greatest band of the last 30 years. Play any album they made and you will find songs you'll love for the rest of your existence..
thom yorke never used to warm up. until one day he saw bjork warming up in the morning, for a very short performance in the evening, before that he never really took singing seriously. if you listen to some of his later work, his singing defo got better. having said that, his studio work is also better generally, and they don't process vocals with any vocoders or anything haha
Back in the bends through Kid A period (circa ‘95-2001) his vocals - like the rest of the band - were so flawless and precise.
To be able to project your voice at that volume above a loud band and an even louder audience is a vocal feat in itself. And he manages to hold a pitch. Kudos.
Within their imperfection of their vocals is perfection.

Can never go wrong with track in Radiohead’s entire discography. One of the greatest bands of the last 30 years (along with tool and other artists of genres) that are always trying to make something genuine and grow.

I think this song in particular shows how conveying a message through the song and connecting to your audience through the raw emotion in his voice is just a different level of singing.

This song is pure emotion, Im about the same age as thom yorke, and this song came out when i was still terribly awkward trying to figure out how to connect with women. Theres a reason that so many covers of this song exist, and that so many people are in the crowd. A relatable emotion will always touch more people than a pitch perfect voice. Love your reaction and your confession. I would love to see your reaction to tori amos.
Please do more Radiohead. Their evolution is so very interesting. This concert was from the 90s I think. Talk about longevity!

"I want a perfect soul".. harder to dismiss.. Loved this song for years.. and I think 21 Pilots must have sampled when the guitars fire, for use in their song. I do wonder what you think of his falsetto. Lot of vibrato on that sustain, that's for sure. The thing about that generation of singer was how much of their soul, exposure and vulnerability, was in the lyrics, and that came through. BTW - I like your confession time.
I love these videos, i only sing when I'm alone or in the car but after watching some of these videos I'm thinking more about how I'm singing and subconsciously challenging myself to be better.

I have 2 vocal coaches I watch. I came across you recently and guess you can say I was late to the party but I really enjoy your true honest reactions and how you explain what's going on with the singer along the way plus little fun facts. I watch reaction videos during my long grueling leukemia treatments and I can say as I watch you help me drift away from the pain and sickness that comes with these treatments especially at my age (50) and even the nurses say it's amazing to see me drift away instead of passing and moaning most do during these things. Thank you for all you do.
Love your insight at the end on what "singing" is. It's proof that no matter how much you know there is room to keep growing.

@@pault1964 nah, he's always been very against coke. paranoid android was basically a spiteful jab at a cokehead he met at a bar. afaik he smoked pot when he was young and may, or may not, do so now. he probably sometimes used stimulants from 94 to 98 on occasion, considering how insane their touring schedule was at the time, but he's always spoke pretty disdainfully of hard drug use among "rock stars" (as in people like liam gallagher, not just musicians who play rock but those who live that whole lifestyle)

I like your honesty, and that you recognize that imperfection can equal feeling. One of my favorite vocals of all time is Paul on Oh Darling. What makes it a favorite is the inflections and off note gruff emotion.
From your reaction, I think you would enjoy Thom Yorke's other classic works. Radiohead is such a strange band, in that they don't set out to make hits, or care on public criticism. So, I think, most of their best work is un-noticed, gotta be a fan to know.

I remember listening to Thom talking about this song on Desert Island Discs (BBC radio). I won't tell you what he said (go find it on BBC archives), but there was a girl involved. :)

Mike, I watch a lot of reaction channels, and I can easily say that yours is the very best one.
You're extremely charismatic, has a lot of technical insight, you feel bad for pausing songs, and we can see that you have a deep respect the artists/songs. The only "downside" of this channel is that you have a pretty good musical taste, so we will never get your first reaction to Hallowed be thy Name, for example :P
BUT, there are still lots of gems, such as "Kamelot - Abadoned". So don't you ever think that we are here for the songs, because I am here to see YOU react to that!

G'day mate (and yes I'm from the bush), after watching this reaction I really really would love to see you react to an Aussie band called cold chisel. Jimmy Barnes is an Australian Icon. and they are Pioneers of a Genre we have in Australia that we call Pub Rock. just go through their songs and enjoy. Jimmy tends to be a bit full on in cold chisel but I remember watching him perform with his son singing christmas carols and holy crap can that man sing.
I love your honest and emotional reaction. Might be a little out there but I would love to see you react to Dir en Grey - Vinushka (Live) or Magayasou (Live). The vocalist has amazing range and is so good at portraying emotion in his singing.

First time watcher, now subscriber. I've watched a lot of reactions to this performance and something I really appreciate is that you let song play through before starting to comment. Stop-starting takes me out of a performance every time.
Keeping the lyrics on screen is probably a very good idea for vocalists as expressive as Thom, so no, it didn't distract.
Your point about snobbery is well-made and something I can identify with. I used to classify people like Thom and Eddie as "cool," but not "good." I'm very happy that I got over that!
Also, you remind me of Stephen King (in the best possible way!). I haven't heard what makes this performance special expressed more succinctly than in this video. While economic, it's sensitive, honest and thoughtful. I appreciate that!

Thom Yorke conveys emotion in every syllable he sings, you FEEL it in every song, and his voice is unique. He knows when to light it up for maximum effect. You ever listen to "high and dry"? Or to be honest, just every radiohead song.. The emotional reach is just amazingly special. Listen to "the pyramid song" maybe.. Karma Police also, There There..
Also, I'm subbed to Key of Geebz? he's an old composer reacting to all sorts of music, he "decomposes" them in his vids lol, check out his Radiohead playlist. He's also super impressed by Thom's vocals, and in particular his vibrato and emotional delivery.

One more thing that is very important to me and I have looked for it from a young age. What is a truly good performer. You know. When you said the singer from Creep hit that long note and gave his all yes he his all to the audience. He was thinking about someone he cared very much, many performers do this. I have been performing since 3, and have respect for the teachers and performers. And being a good one is not about just the lessons and being technical but the passion and what makes that particular performer. I was studying the song Lady with Kenny Rodgers singing,98% of the women cried. Then I did with Lionel Ritchie not one cried. They are both beautiful artist, I told my husband Kenny R had a low rumble in his voice, that was his own
I put Radiohead right up there with the Beatles they are great live as well try Nude or Reckoner from the basement.
This song is very early radiohead. It's their most famous song but far from their best. It would be great if you could check out How To Disappear Completely, Karma Police, Paranoid Android, and Fake Plastic Trees.

You are correct Mike Goodrich - the kidz only know vocal gymnastics singers that when they hear original artist interpret a song that is not "that" they are amazed that vocal originality exists.
I´ve also known this song for years and not one second I thought it would sound like "The Air That I Breathe", but they were sued for just that.

I saw Radiohead perform this in 94 or 95 - whenever the Pablo Honey album was released. It was in a small venue in Auckland, New Zealand - perhaps 2-300 people. Everyone said Radiohead would be a one-hit wonder. Now it's time to review the Postmodern Jukebox version - the vocal gymnastics don't distract ;-)
