As a vocal coach, I imagine you like to study all types of singers.... Angelina is many of them all rolled into one. She is one of the most versatile singers I have ever seen. She can take on so many different styles of singing and make it sound like it's her specialty. You are definitely going to want to jump down this rabbit hole because Angelina is something very special. You mentioned the runs and I'm sure many will tell you... Angelina does the most tasteful and well placed runs. In this particular performance, it was a unique situation where she had to go up there and give them a lot in 2 minutes.... but even in that situation, you noticed how tastefully she did it. As you discover more of Angelina's work you are going to really see what an absolute master she is at when and where to use certain techniques. She is able to do so much without ever sounding over done. And as always for anyone new to Angelina, here is a little bio so that you can learn a little more about her background and her kind and caring soul....... *Angelina Jordan* - Angelina Jordan was born Jan 10 2006 in Oslo, Norway. She is currently 14 - She began singing at the age of one and a half - At 2 or 3 she discovered Jazz through her grandmother and started studying all the greats from Jazz history with youtube videos. - *Why Angelina always sings barefoot* - When Angelina was 6 years old, she was traveling with her grandmother and met a poor girl with no shoes trying to make money on the streets. They talked for a while and discussed their dreams. It was cold and the girl had scars on her feet. Seeing this, Angelina took off her shoes and gave them to the girl. The girl thanked her and told Angelina she would pray for her every day. That day Angelina made a vow to always sing barefoot until all the children of the world could have shoes. To this day, whenever Angelina is performing in public, she sings barefoot as a way to remember that little girl and to remind us that there are less fortunate people in the world that could use our help. Angelina holds so true to this promise that she has sung outdoors in Norway, in december... barefoot. She has sung at a dinner with ex-pres Obama... barefoot. She went on AGT (possibly the biggest stage in the world)...bare foot. She made a promise at 6 years old, and has stuck strong to it for years. That takes a special kind of person. - She has always been the driving force behind her own singing career. It was her that asked her mother to take her to Norways Got Talent, where she auditioned at 7 years old and went on to win the whole show at just 8 years old. - In an interview after the show, when asked what she was going to do with the prize money, the 8 year old replied, "I would like to give it to orphans that need clothes and shoes" - When Angelina was 9 years old she became the youngest published author in Norway, when she wrote a book about the story of why she doesn't wear shoes when she sings. She donated proceeds from the sales of the book to help children in need. - The reason you may not have heard of her is because her parents are very protective of her childhood. After she won NGT, they did not want her to be thrust into stardom before she had a chance to grow up as a normal child, and get her education. They allowed her to do a few select shows (mainly private and charity events) with a couple public shows every year when she is out of school. Her mother said in an interview that they have turned down 90% of the offers that came in. Over the years since NGT, they have turned down offers from many major record labels and even disney. - Angelina has covered more than 130 songs and over 65 artists in the last 6 years. She always selects the songs herself... everything ranging from old classic jazz to modern pop. She is able to change her voice to match any song she sings and make it her own. (she can cover Amy Winehouse and Lana del Rey like nobody else) - Angelina has collaborated with some very big names over the last few years... Quincy Jones, Mark Ronson, David Foster, Alan Walker and many more. All of which heard her and were blown away by her talent. - Angelina has written three of her own original songs: "What is Life", "Shield" and "Oslo". (all are amazing...all can be found on youtube) In summary, Angelina Jordan is destined to be one of the greatest singers to have ever lived. This is just my opinion, but if you listen closely to any of her stuff you will hear the greatness. She sings with a natural style. There is no acting, no showing off, there are no unnecessary runs, or big belty notes just for the purpose of saying "hey look at me sing". She once said "when I sing I go into a beautiful world in my head", and you can always hear the results of that. When Angelina sings it is pure soul, pure emotion, pure music. Update: On Aug 26, 2020 Angelina's Manager/Uncle announced in an interview that they have decided on Republic Records as the best fit for Angelina and she is now signed with them as their "highest priority new artist". She has done so much already, but at 14 she is just getting started!!!

Thank you Rusty for always helping new reactors with Angelina Jordan's history. I'm old school and she is just a wonderful soulful being ... I listen to her every day and particularly in the evenings.
Since this is your first encounter with Angelina, you really don’t know how talented she is. You will get hundreds of comments about her from her devoted fans. Bohemian Rhapsody is terrific, but it’s really just an example of one of the genres where she will stun you with her vocal ability, her range, her interpretation of lyrics, and the beauty of her voice. She was competing on the AGT “Champions” show because she won Norway’s Got Talent at seven years old, covering two Billie Holliday classics and then doing her own versions of Summertime and Bang, Bang. You really just need to watch a few more Angelina songs because telling you about her can’t do her justice. If there were a UA-cam Hall of Fame, it would definitely include nine year old Angelina’s video of I Put A Spell on You. It’s a one-off performance for her, but if you want to get an appreciation of Angelina’s span of genres, try that for starters. As with Bohemian Rhapsody, if you closed your eyes, you’d think you were listening to a mature jazz singer from the 1940’s-with impeccable phrasing, timing, and attitude. ua-cam.com/video/nwFloCPXzCs/v-deo.html For more of her straight voice and mastery of lyrics, try her cover of Adele’s A Million Years Ago. By then, you’ll be on your own to choose from over 100 performances on UA-cam. I’m in my seventies and have loved popular music all my life. Angelina, now 14 years old, is the best singer I’ve ever heard.
If you want something a bit less runheavy, if you wonder about versitality, oh lord, you have a loooooooooong road to walk down, she is a girl full of surprises. She does not need to do runs, she is much much more than somebody wanting to impress with "look what I can do", this was just for AGT. If you are like the rest of us you wont be able to stop wondering how she does the next song, because she don't copy herself, even though she have done way more than 100 covers, and a few originals.
'run heavy'? ? You have heard one song only and you are "coaching" to do fewer runs? She had two minutes to do a killer song. She had me at the close of her gentle and impeccable intro. Better you give her your fifteen minutes and you take two. Not a good first impression sir.
Gad! Can't believe Bill's comment here. Noting a song is short is not a criticism, it's an observation. About half of Angelina's songs are (sadly) quite short. When choosing for reactions you may want check the length to decide if you to include two.
She is probably the most versatile singer you will ever react to. A jazz/blue queen who can do EDM. It does not get more versatile than that. I enjoyed your reaction and analysis. I subscribed and I look forward to your reactions to Angelina's outstanding cover works and originals.
Hi Mike , Welcome to Angelina's world , She truly is an amazing artist, as you go though her songs to discover her beautiful gift you will see why she is loved by many , her ability to touch each and everyone of us with that beautiful voice is unbelievable so please put your ears on and relax, it's like having a symphony in your ear ...just gorgeous .I like to thank you for reacting to Angelina and hope to see you react to more.
Yes she was 13 here, and every songs what she singing, she sings her own way. She doesn't use the runs usually, just on the AGT. You can find more than 130 songs from her.
Queen was also blown away by her rendition of The Show Must Go On. They should be her back-up group in a stage some day. Freddie is definitely smiling down on her, I'm sure.
She went heavy on the runs because it's AGT. If this was an Olympic event, I'd say she threw a lot of tricks, a good mix of pretty and hard, and she nailed them all. Try her version of Mary's Boy Child, if you want to hear her humble voice. Thanks for the nice reaction and for any new fans who find her through your videos. :)
Thank you for reacting to Angelina Jordan. She is just an amazing young singer and she did a very beautiful version of this song. She has about 125 cover songs and she also have 5 original songs where she wrote three of the original songs. She is 14 years now and have sign for repulic record.
Thank you for a very good reaction. It's always a pleasure to listen to qualified people commenting Angelina. So, I have a suggestion for a new Angelina song. She started her singing at a very young age and her interest was mainly jazz, more specifically 60s jazz. Probably influenced by her grandmother. You also mentioned that you don't like runs that much, so my suggestion is something that she also does extremely well, and that's putting emotions into her singing. The video of interest is from an outdoor song event in Norway called "Singalong at the border". Angelina sings "What a difference a day makes" where the audience (5000-10000 I would guess) is totally mesmerized by her singing. No belting or runs, just singing the song backed by good musicians. She was eight years old at that time, and had just won Norway Got Talent a few months before. I also think that this performance shows her ability to tell a story. I've seen many comments from others emphasizing that the songs she sings came to life again. Link: ua-cam.com/video/ZSfgCIGd7k4/v-deo.html&ab_channel=TV2
People say she has quite an old soul, and you can see what they mean by that in her cover of "I put a spell on you" from when she was 9 years old or something, pretty amazing!
Angelina is really good. I can recommand "Every time we say goodbye". Here she is just 10 y, and this is one of the most soul- setting performance I have seen. Simple and intimate.
Angelina only sings like this for AGT. She threw more into this song just for the show. She chops and changes to suit the song. I recommend her versions of California Dreaming and Wicked Game. They pared back and feel different from the originals. They are Angelinafied.
Thanks for your reaction. She won Norwegian talents at the age of 8, and is predicted to become the next superstar! She is also known for being able to adjust the voice to which genre she sings. She has approx. 130 covers on UA-cam + 3 originals. Angelina Jordan - Date of birth: January 10, 2006 (age 14 years), Born and raised in Oslo, Norway; this world-renowned singer has earned fantastic reviews for the amazing breadth, depth and maturity of her vocal talent that simply belies her young age. Something you might have noticed is that Angelina always performs barefoot! When Angelina was 6 years old, she met a homeless girl around her age when she was traveling in the Middle East. The girl did not have any shoes, and Angelina says her feet were scarred. Angelina gave the girl her own shoes. Angelina then “vowed never to appear on stage again wearing shoes until all the world’s children had them.” She keeps that promise to this day, as she says that little girl “is always in my heart.” - Angelina said she asked the little girl what her dream was, and the girl responded that she wanted to be a doctor. Angelina told her to “never give up.” In return, the girl told Angelina she would pray for her, and asked her to “remember me.” She might as well sing in a bad cellphone microphone, without a microphone, or to collaborate with professional musicians. She does not need any autotune or digital aids to sing. It is real song in an otherwise polished world. She just sings because it's her passion. Angelina’s videos have received over "over 600 Million views on youtube & over 2 Billion views on Facebook." Amazingly, her passion for music began at just one-and- a-half years of age. At the age of seven, Angelina auditioned for Norway’s Got Talent performing Billie Holiday’s Gloomy Sunday. She won the competition with the show drawing record TV audiences. Not surprisingly, throughout her rising career, Angelina has featured in prominent media outlets including TIME, CNN, BBC, and People while also performing on the U.S. network TV shows Little Big Shots and The View. In 2016, Avicii chose Angelina for the some vocals on his worldwide Volvo commercial campaign, a brilliant cover of Nina Simone’s Feeling Good. As well as singing before Nobel Peace Prize Laureates, charitable causes to which Angelina has given her talent include the Rainforest Alliance at the American Museum of Natural History in New York and Ein Herz für Kinder in Berlin where she helped raise over 21 Million Euros for children and families in need. Everyone in the music industry knows who she is, but the family and herself want her to grow up as normal as possible. Among other things, they said no to Disney! This multi-talented singing prodigy has also written a successful children’s book in her native Norway making Angelina the youngest published author in the country’s history. Today she is 14 years old and has over 126 covers and 3 originals on UA-cam. She has already managed to collaborate with the biggest in the music industry, and is considered to be a future megarstar. The family and herself want to take it easy in the musical development because of her young age. NOTE! Angelina is independent and owns the rights herself. Angelina Jordan INC.Angelina wants total ownership over her creativity, without compromise. She / family said no to Disney, among other things. She attends some major foundrising concerts. Rumor has it that she is coming up with her own album this year. Why didn't Angelina win AGT champions? It's because she refused to sign with "Fremantle" when it came to ownership of the version of the performance of the songs. They told her she wasn't gonna win if she didn't. Well. She didn't win. musicnorway.no/news/industry-talk-michael-astar/ Another interesting point in the interview is that Angelina Jordan's appearance in "America's Got Talent" hung in the balance for a long time because the program is bound by long-term contracts which in the worst case can force a participant into a special management and record company. For manager Michael Astar, this was completely out of the question.- Then it took a while and they contacted me again to ask if she would sing on their show. Then I persuaded them to give me a contract where Angelina was completely released from any agreement if she performs, he says to Music Norway. Angelina Jordan has now signed with Republic Records as their highest priority new artist. Astar says the commitment has been important when choosing a team. You can read about it here: musicnorway.no/news/industry-talk-michael-astar/ The entire acclaimed music industry knows who she is, and she was invited to sing for Quincy Jones during his 85th birthday at O2 Arena London ua-cam.com/video/OMkwoqUNNkE/v-deo.html - (Google translate)

So she is a real multitalent and I think all her fans are eager to see and hear what she is doing next... Angelina is 13 here. The soul of this young is god-given. She does her own thing each song. you need to hear her do I put a spell on you when she was 8. Fly me to the moon, summertime.
Thank You! You are the first vocal coach I have seen do a reaction/analysis of this without stopping 5 times in the 90 second video. Angelina is responsible for her arrangements. I see that Rusty Schackleford has left you his little history of Angelina. He also has a great list of her songs that follows her timeline. She first came to prominence on Norway Got Talent which she auditioned for at 7 and won at 8. Those performances are a wonderful place to start your journey of Angelina.
Angelina has always composed her own arrangements, from birth (joking). Sadly, you skipped over the introduction where you would have learned she won Norway's Got Talent at age 8. Angelina doesn't just cover songs, she improves them (most of the time). Angelina was measured to have a 5 octave range by age 12, mostly due to her natural voice being so very low and she has been working on her higher register. Mike you hit it correctly, Angelina is an artist and in my opinion the only vocal prodigy of my 62 years on Earth. She evokes so much emotion and always has from a very early age. As talented as she is, she is an even better human being. She always performs barefoot (others will explain why) and will continue to do so until every child on Earth has shoes. Angelina inspires me to be a better person. My song suggestion is her cover of "Stay" but you must watch her performances on Norway's Got Talent as well.
I would like to see a source for that too. 3 octaves is pretty good for an adult singer. 4 is probably the most extreme I have come across so far, and that was a man (Michael Mills). I'm no expert but at 12 I doubt Angelina had fully grown into her lower range yet, so to already have 5 octaves then sounds unbelievable. You'd think her wikipedia page would mention such a feat.
@@DonaldLancon I copied a comment by Rusty Shackelford that stated that from what he had heard her range was from D#2 to G6 which is a little over 4 octaves, but then someone commented there was no way she got down to D#2, so who knows, but I have always believed the 5 octave claim was too much. There is a video of Angelina riding on a roller coaster & her scream is piercing & I would love to learn what note she hit for that at 0:53 sec. Here is the link. ua-cam.com/video/9T_QdpM90-A/v-deo.html
For NGT, to my ears, she used tracts from recordings by Billie Holiday, Nancy Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald. Her a cappella version of "I'm A Fool To Want You" was close to Billie Holiday's version. For those songs where she uses a pre-recorded tract, I assume she's using an existing arrangement to which she adds her own style and unique interpretation. For those cover songs that are clearly different from the original or most well known version, I'm confident that she's the creative force behind the arrangement as well as the vocal style e.g. "I Put Spell On You", "California Dreaming", "Wake Me Up", "Happier", "Natural Woman", "Bohemian Rhapsody". Btw- "Yellow Brick Road" sung at AGT was arranged by Sara Bareilles.
@@keithserafy "How great thou art" - I think she hit her lowest note in that one and the highest I heard her sing was the whistle tone in "Unchained melody"....?
Top reaction.👍 But! For you it means: not to look at what will do, but what you doe has done last 7 years. Only then can you guess the entire size of Angelina. Believe me, you're late to discover perhaps the greatest talent in music history. Believe me, this is not an exaggeration. I hope to see the next reaction soon.✌
Hey, welcome to the Angeinaverse! Always nice to see another actual vocal coach join the fray and actually provide some actual added value! As others have said, runs definitely are not Angelina's bread and butter. I think the fact that she was able to do them so tastefully and so well (even if there were a bit many for some people's taste) is a testament to that versatility you mentioned. Oh boy, did you ever nail that one. It is probably what, more than anything (and there are many things to choose from), defines her greatness to me. AGT Champs was a bit different because she was clearly pandering to the typical AGT tastes. (Same, by the way, with the Eb5 - the obligatory talent show belting note - not part of what she normally does unless it is an integral part of the song.) In general, when she performs a song, whether a cover or an original, she accesses whatever she needs from her vocal toolbox and applies them only to the degree necessary to convey the meaning of the song and the and emotional impact she is trying to achieve. She doesn't pull out her skills just to show them off. I think this is what sets her apart from some of the other younger vocalists who dominate the UA-cam reaction community. And it's probably why she is the one who is off to work with Republic Records to launch a serious career as an international recording artist. I hope you will continue to react to Angelina. As you have heard, there is a vast repertoire of covers (and three originals) to choose from. If someone starts with Bohemian Rhapsody, I usually recommend "I Put a Spell on You" as the next stop because it demonstrates her talents as a younger (barely 9 year old) singer and also represents her versatility. It is absolutely NOTHING like her performance of Bohemian Rhapsody on AGT Champs. It is also, incidentally, a song that contains vocal elements that you won't find in many, if any, of her other vocal performances. That said, you talked about wanting to hear something more "clean" or "pure" (can't remember your exact words) - i.e. without the runs. I can think of three suggestions, you you are free to choose any one of them (or something else!). They are (with short descriptions): - Cry Me a River (Arthur Hamilton/Julie London). This version ua-cam.com/video/pmUA7IdF9RE/v-deo.html . No song by her or any other artist has ever had the “make-me-cry” staying power of this one. It’s not a song, it’s a magic spell. Live outdoor performance with a small jazz ensemble featuring some beautiful trombone. There is nothing "mind-blowing" about this performance. It is just effortlessly beautiful, seemingly spontaneous musical beauty. Her voice seems to float on the outdoor breeze. I love, love, love this performance. It has helped to keep me sane during some difficult times health-wise this past year. - Young and Beautiful (Lana Del Rey). In my opinion, one of AJ’s most sublimely beautiful vocal performances, up there in the vicinity of Bohemian Rhapsody in terms of the level of control displayed ua-cam.com/video/3prGThnLil4/v-deo.html . There are some short little runs/ornaments in this performance, but it is mostly "intensity by subtlety". - Every Time We Say Goodbye (Ella Fitzgerald). ua-cam.com/video/KRSI8HmTHJA/v-deo.html . For a song with kind of a sad theme, I’m not sure why listening to this makes me happier every time I hear it. Calming-for-the-spirit performance on a rooftop in downtown Oslo for a radio station. Like Cry Me a River, this is more sorcery than music. But in a very, very good way. or, as mentioned... - I Put a Spell on you (Screamin’ Jay Hawkins) - ua-cam.com/video/nwFloCPXzCs/v-deo.html . A LOT of jaws have been injured and a lot of flooring damaged while people listening to this performance for the first time. She had just turned nine years old. I repeat, she had just turned nine. That’s Screamin’ Jay on the candle at the beginning of the recording. A black and white recording studio music video that looks like it was directed by John Ford. With vocal drama to match.
Thank you for this great reaction video. It’s refreshing to hear someone like you who understands music and appreciate good talent. Angelina Jordan usually doesn’t do too many runs, however in this performance, she might have been catering to the AGT crowds. Here is a video of her at age 11 performing FEELING GOOD ua-cam.com/video/p8kAL-sGJx8/v-deo.html I’m sure you will once more be amazed by her. Thank you again.
As others have said, AGT is a venue that demands vocal gymnastics. Overall however I agree with your comments. I highly recommend any of her collaborations with the guitarist Ivan Mendez, or for something a little more out of left field, check out "A Song for A".
You need to start with her 4 performances for Norway’s Got Talent at age 7/8, and then watch her latest drop, My Funny Valentine, at age 16. You can get a good taste of her talent with these choices.
"I have a feeling that she's really versatile." LOL - you have no idea. Regarding the overuse of runs in popular music today, I completely agree with you. As others have said, even though you didn't feel like she overdid the runs here this was definitely much heavier on the ornament than you will usually hear from Angelina. This was for America's Got Talent, and that's what they are looking for. At some point you really have to see her performance of "I Put a Spell On You" from when she was nine years old, it's absolutely unbelievable, but that one is also kind of an outlier. (She's recorded that song again, I think more than once, but it's the black and white video at 9 that's really a must see.) My favorite performances, though, and the ones that I think of as more typical of her, are just simple recordings of her with a guitarist accompanying. There's a lot of those, and I recommend all of them. Edit: I read that comment over and realized that you might get the impression that her "I Put a Spell On You" is similar to her "Bohemian Rhapsody". It isn't at all similar - it's an entirely different kind of extreme.
I agree. I posted her latest performances for him as "I Put A Spell On You" is so damn near perfect and a one time deal. In my opinion it's Grammy worthy.
She is 13 and yes she is in charge of all her arrangements. When she won Norway's Got Talent at 7-8 yrs.old, her second audition to get to the live shows she sang 'I'm A Fool To Want You' all of it acapella without a starting note. You need to watch and hear what she could do at 7 yrs.old. She has sung for Nobel winners, at 8 she took her tiny little self to the middle of an empty but huge stage stood behind her microphone, gave the sound man a thumbs up and in front of 40,000 people sang her 3-4 songs and then marched her little bare feet off to her mom and grandmother. She has sung for Quincy Jones, at personal invitation, for his 85th birthday at the O2 arena. Jones was to have said of Angelina that she is the best young vocalist since Michael Jackson. So this young lady is destined for greatness. She also has a heart as she gave her winnings from Got Talent to a variety of charities. She has raised multiple millions of dollars for charity since she has started singing. If you hook up with a commentor Rusty Shackleford he has a list of her performances in chronological order. Angelina is a remarkable young woman who is going to do great things.
Mike - Thank you for your great first reaction to Angelina Jordan. It is obvious that you are a true professional who knows the technical and artistic aspects of vocal music. After 40+ years as a music educator and jazz musician, I have never really heard a singer quite like her. I appreciate your comments about runs. You are right, most of what we hear today is vocal "gymnastics". My gold standard for vocal ornamentation is Ella Fitzgerald. Along with her innate ability, she always incorporated the improvisations of the instrumentalists she sang with. Not too much, not too little, always within the key changes. From birth, Angelina grew up listening to music. Her grandmother, Meri Zamani, loves jazz and Angelina heard all of the best singers from before Billie Holiday forward. Along with her innate ability, I believe that exposure to those great singers informs her style. If you want to hear Angelina's pure voice, listen (and react to) her singing "Every Time We Say Goodbye". Just her natural voice with very little ornamentation. It's an astounding performance. Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/KRSI8HmTHJA/v-deo.html If you keep doing reactions to Angelina, you will see your subscriptions and likes go through the roof. Thanks for your first one. You only have about 135 of her UA-cam videos to go!
You have a new subscriber but BEWARE! This is a long comment. I hope you have the patience to read to the end. Thank you for discovering and reacting my favourite singer. Although you didn't show it on your video, Simon was correct when he said that he had never heard that version, Angelina re-arranged it for the performance. She had but a short time to impress the Judges, so decided to display some of the many musical "tricks" she has. Multiple runs are certainly not her normal style. Angelina rearranges many of her cover songs. Her fans call it "Angelina-fying" a song. The lady who first stood and clapped at the end of Angelina's performance was her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani. On her right was Angelina's mother, Sara Astar, then Juliette, her sister and then her uncle, Michael Astar who is also her Manager. Heid Klum hit the Golden Buzzer. So Angelina went straight to the Final, where she performed Elton John's classic "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road". My introduction to Angelina was on her first appearance at Norway's Got Talent and I didn't expect much from a 7-year-old. Just a cute little girl, all nervous, rushing the song in parts, hesitating and then stumbling over or forgetting her words and generally acting her age and doing her best to get through a childish song like "Twinkle, twinkle little star". What did I see? Well, it was a seven-year-old child, with wild hair and gaps in her mouth, where there once were baby teeth. And that was when the normal perception ended and things turned upside down. She confidently answered the questions put to her by a Judge. Declared she was going to sing a song by the legendary Billie Holiday. Gestured off-stage for the technician to start the music and then started singing. The body of the 7-year-old was still there but the voice wasn't. Or was it? I was surprised then and that surprise is still with me, some six years later. You asked about her versatility and whether she could sing other genres. I have followed her career since I saw that first video on UA-cam and in the six years she has been singing publicly she has mastered many musical genres, including Blues, Country, Disco, Jazz,Pop, R&B and Soul, EDM and Rock and covered songs first performed by many famous singers, like Adele, Whitney Houston, Nancy and Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Judy Garland, Lana del Ray, Gloria Gaynor, Andy Williams, Elvis Presley, Louis Armstrong and many others. What is more extraordinary is that she takes ownership of every song she sings while still paying respect to the original. You will notice that she never goes into unnecessary theatrics. Never sings those high or low notes unless they are absolutely necessary. Never projects herself in any performance which says "look how good I am". She just sings the song as she feels it is meant to be sung. And I'll add an even more extraordinary item for you to consider, to show how unique she is. She has the innate ability not only to sing a song as emotionally as the song deserves but to be able to communicate those same emotions to the listener. As I have noted above, I have been following her career a long time and have listened to every interview she has given and every documentary about her and every performance she has ever given. What stands out for me is how a very shy and humble girl in her normal life, can be transformed into the perfect vehicle for the song she has chosen to sing, once she starts to sing. Although the gift of singing and all her performances appear to be effortless, Angelina works very hard to ensure that the one she is going to record reflects what she sees as the correct way to meld both lyrics and melody. If you go to ua-cam.com/channels/hM_lpT4shdnsez93QMJPig.html you will find many rehearsals where, not only do you get to see her rehearsing but being the "ordinary" girl she is (if indeed one is able to apply that adjective to her). Most of her performances are recorded in her home studio, either with background music or a single guitar. Most are done in one take. She treats the whole thing as a hobby. As we would have said when I was young. "There is no 'side' to her" She is completely transparent to the world. Perhaps you would like to go back a few years and work forward. By doing so, you will come to the realisation that she is "unique" and I don't use that word loosely. There is truly no other singer who has her versatility and sheer ability to communicate the emotions of a song to her listeners. I doubt there is another singer who works so hard to ensure that, when she sings the song, it is sung in such a way that her listener becomes enmeshed in the emotions So, here a few recordings for you to consider. age 6 - First visit to a Recording Studio:I who have nothing: ua-cam.com/video/RjQZKBpVaes/v-deo.html age 7 - Norway's Got Talent - First Audition: Gloomy Sunday: ua-cam.com/video/8q7MqdFoibI/v-deo.html age 7 - Norway’s Got Talent - Judges' Cut-Off:I’m a fool to want you ua-cam.com/video/LXknLZDoRVQ/v-deo.html age 8 - Norway's Got Talent - Semi Final: Bang Bang: ua-cam.com/video/cSEO3IMVtCI/v-deo.html age 8 - Norway's Got Talent - Final: Summertime: ua-cam.com/video/443pBSpx5B4/v-deo.html age 8 - Concert in Sweden - "I'll be there":ua-cam.com/video/VJIwvWdoO3o/v-deo.html age 8 - Charity Concert: At last: ua-cam.com/video/819bQ9I-T-g/v-deo.html age 11 - It’s Now or Never - ua-cam.com/video/hli1fuk8zQQ/v-deo.html age 10 - Norwegian TV Production: Every time we say goodbye: ua-cam.com/video/KRSI8HmTHJA/v-deo.html One thing which several of the new reactors - and those who have returned to her have decided, is to follow her career from the start. If you should decide to do the same, go to Rusty Shackleford's website and look at the list he has compiled of Angelina songs in chronological order.Rusty Shackleford - Chronological order ua-cam.com/channels/55am_6Y5-Fj4ri8xOInstA.html
Hey Mike, I post the below info for all 1st time reactors to Angelina and while it may be slightly dated it does provide accurate information. What it does not convey is even the remotest sense of what a spectacular person you have just been blessed with watching. There are literally millions of Angelina devotees whose souls have been deeply touched by this healing angel sent by God. I am hoping fervently that you follow Angelina and learn as much as you can about her and the extraordinary beauty of her soul. I promise you will never regret a single second of your time spent with Angelina and you will wish, as do I, that your life may be extended by even a few years to experience this young lady as she ascends to the pantheon of greatest singers and most beautiful souls ever to have been gifted us by God. I swear, I do not sink to hyperbole. It is simply impossible to articulate the effect Angelina has had on a jaded, hardened 66 year old sailor who is now so thankful to have lived long enough to know Angelina in my heart. May God bless and keep her always. Thank you so much Mike for your great reaction to Angelina Jordan. I have just subscribed to your channel. I am providing links to her music and some biographical information below. Here's a play list of many of Angelina’s LIVE performances in chronological order: ua-cam.com/play/PL2v8kgVeo4EbYDVnRwObjETfWpXbzbgIO.html This is her first album (2nd album, all originals, possibly late summer 2020) available on most streaming/download sites/apps: ua-cam.com/play/PL2v8kgVeo4Ea6gQ9wnWz847nxe7rKyIXn.html And this is a playlist of every song on UA-cam of Angelina: ua-cam.com/play/PL2v8kgVeo4EbQD6l_WAVjOfItquzW7oEc.html The above lists are all courtesy of Rusty Shackleford who is a huge Angelina fan (as are we all). His UA-cam channel is here: ua-cam.com/users/MrRustysPlaceplaylists Angelina's fans are millions strong, very loyal and dedicated and as nice as any people you will ever interact with. We consider rude/bad behavior to be anathema to the spirit and sweet soul of Angelina and no true fan would ever be guilty of that, at least when Angelina is the subject of discussion. I am posting some standard background info on Angelina below. It is far from complete but it is a start for any new fan wishing to know more about her. I have subscribed in hopes you will continue to react to Angelina's videos. Thank you so much. Angelina designed and sewed the outfit she wears on AGT “Bohemian Rhapsody” as she does for much of her performing wardrobe. The material is a print of one of her grandmother Mery Zamani's paintings. Mery is a well respected Iranian artist who, along with Angelina's beautiful Iranian/Japanese mother Sara, is a great influence on Angelina. Angelina's father is a Swedish engineer and her uncle is her manager. Angelina adores her little sister Juliette who can be seen dancing behind Angelina in this Amy Winehouse cover video: ua-cam.com/video/sqmJLkgk2Ik/v-deo.html Even more charming is this Angelina - Juliette video: ua-cam.com/video/q-esPeHV_gE/v-deo.html Angelina turned 14 on Jan 10, 2020. The 1st song Angelina ever sang was in her crib at 18 months of age. Mery is a jazz enthusiast and began introducing Angelina to jazz by age 2 or 3 through a friend of Mery's who owns a small vintage vinyl record shop in Oslo. There are videos of a very young Angelina going through jazz record bins, carrying a Frank Sinatra song book and singing/playing piano in the little shop. Her first recording session was at age 6. Her first two performances on NGT (she won) were Billie Holiday songs. She also sang a Sonny Bono song and George Gershwin’s “Summertime”. Angelina has 125+ covers, 3 original songs and many interviews and thousands of reaction videos on UA-cam as well as over one BILLION hits total on social media worldwide. She covers more than 50 artists including Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James, Dinah Washington, Louis Armstrong, Amy Winehouse, Whitney Houston, Adele, Lana Del Ray, Elvis Presley, James Brown, Julie London, Patsy Cline, GEORGE GERSHWIN, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Queen, Elton John, The Righteous Brothers, Leslie Gore, Frankie Valli and many more. She is the youngest singer to ever perform at the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremonies, Norway’s Got Talent youngest winner (age 8) and Norway’s youngest published author. Angelina speaks Norwegian, Farsi and English fluently and is studying Japanese. She plays 4 musical instruments and has always been in total creative control of her career. Angelina can sing any genre but jazz is her first love. She decides what to sing and does all her own arrangements. She sings with orchestras, jazz combos and with single instruments mostly guitar and piano as well as A cappella. Angelina has collaborated/performed for or with Quincy Jones, Harry Belafonte, Nico Cartosio, Alan Walker, John Legend, Mark Ronson, Gene Simmons and others. She has given command performances for 4 heads of state including President Obama. She has her own production company with copyrighted LPs, EPs', videos, publications and merchandise. Angelina always performs barefoot. When she was 6 she was visiting Tehran with Sara and Mery. One day while they were walking through the market place Angelina spotted a young girl about her age who was offering to weigh passersby on a bathroom scale in exchange for small coins. Angelina was allowed to go over and talk with the girl for quite a while and they had a strong connection. Angelina at one point asked the girl what her dream was. The girl wanted to be a doctor but her parents were dead so she and her 2 siblings had to work. Angelina told her to never give up on her dream. Angelina had noticed the girl was barefoot on a cold day and her feet were scarred and blistered. When the girl admired Angelina's beautiful shoes Angelina took them off and insisted her new friend take them. Her friend put them on marveling at their comfort and asked Angelina what was her dream. Angelina told her she wanted to be a superstar and sing for the whole world. The little girl said she would pray for Angelina every day and Angelina promised to always sing barefoot while there were still children without shoes. For 8 years now Angelina has been faithfully true to her promise. At age 8 she wrote a book, illustrated by her grandmother Mery about the encounter called "Mellom To Hjerter" (Between Two Hearts) making her Norway's youngest published author. Angelina regularly performs for children's charities and donated much of her 80,000 euros prize for NGT to charity and helped raise over 21 million euros in Germany for children's charities. Angelina always comports herself with grace, humility and respect for all including audience, fans and artists. Angelina is beautiful in every way God intended. I am a grizzled old sailor of 65 years and she melts my heart. Angelina is simply the best singer ever recorded. I adore her and thank God for sending His Angel to us.
Hi, welcome to Angelina's world. I have no doubt that you will appreciate her much better when you hear more of her. About her runs please note that she only does them to demonstrate her ability to the judges. Please do more of her and you will see. Of course the starting point should be her performance at Norway's got talent in 2014 when she is just 7-8 years old. If hers singing of Gloomy Sunday, Bang Bang and Summer Time doesn't blow your mind, then nothing else would. She is just amazing and probably the best voice on the planet right now.
Angelina is one of the most addictive singers I have ever listened to, & one of the very few, that can pull you right into the song, making you feel, every word, every note, & every emotion. ❤️💙 I always have this feeling that Angelina is not only channeling some of these late great singers, but that they also pass through her, when she is singing their song ❤️💙 A rare beauty, in every sense of the word ❤️💙 Loved your reaction, & please keep on the Angelina journey, you will continue to be amazed at just how talented this young lady is!!!
Here's one without as many runs. She does at least some of the arranging with her songs. Some fans believe she does it all. She was 12 here. "This Is A Man's World." ua-cam.com/video/HEm7tGrjIKk/v-deo.html
Umm… I wouldn't say TIAMW has fewer runs. Something like "What a Difference a Day Makes" or "Every Time We Say Goodbye" would be better choices for that.
@@Rosannasfriend Not apologizing for them. Just explaining that she sang this song (and "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road") very differently than she usually does.
Keep in mind this was a competition and I believe she wanted to demonstrate as much as she could what she is capable of and she did it tastefully. I've listened to a lot of her and she invariable places runs, etc. as needed and you are correct she is very versatile. Any of her covers will amaze you.
Hi Mike, that was a very nice reaction & break down. You might want to put on earbuds or headphones cause your missing some of her vocal ornaments & nuances. History was made, If anyone's brave enough to do this song, in her rendition of the song, they'll be compared to her, for it's her song now. Think of it she took a iconic classic rock opera & stripped it down & turned it into a jazzy/bluesy soulful ballad at age 13. Please support her music, CD's, iTunes, etc.. Put her on your play list...So many (even Disney) producers have been trying to get her to sign with them. Her & her mom just tell them no, (she wants to finish school 1st). Her family is very protective of her, they even formed a production co. for her (Angelina Jordan inc.) so to try & keep the industry’s claws out of her. She's a rare talent that comes by once in a lifetime. Angie is music. She can do any genre & sound better than most originals & she's still very young too. She’s 14 as of 1-10-20. She made her outfit using the pattern of an artwork, from her grandmother. She makes several of her other outfits too. She just signed with Republic records (she won’t show on site until her 1st album comes out) as of end of Aug 2020. She did the runs for the American audience. She really doesn't do a lot of runs etc, just for story accents if the story calls for it. A God given voice & talent. What amazing timbre, texture, liquid gold vibrato & amazing rare skill of tremolo & the pitch perfect skill as well as her Melisma’s are out of this world, also no sound comes out of her mouth unless she wants it too, control beyond a most of the pro adult singers, etc She's very sweet, respectful, humble, giving, & a loving Christian in real life too. She selects, arranges & composes her songs while still being respectful to the original. She has written 3-4 songs plays 4+ instruments & is trying to learn a little Saxophone right now. Speaks 3-4 languages & sings in 4+ languages etc.. .English isn’t her 1st language, it’s her 3rd. She also gives a lot to charities & helps out children who really need it. People will explain why she’s barefoot when she sings on stage down below in the comments. I hope you react to these songs by Angelina Jordan I would recommend the B&W version of I put a spell on you she arranged when she was 9 link below. Great reaction You will find that she has always been fearless. She has done 130+ covers so you have plenty to choose from w/o runs. Follow Rusty Shackleford for history and playlist, he's the man
Since you asked for a recommendation: check out «I put a spell on you» by Angelina Jordan. The black and white version. I think she was 8 by the time. No runs there... 😊
It's interesting how so many of us just automatically refer the reactors to Rusty. Thank goodness he has managed to find time to provide a great start for their journey on the Angelina Jordan Express.
@@valmody8392 It is really quite a testament to Angelina herself, & her talent, to how dedicated, loyal & protective we are of her!!! I have not been touched by a singer in a very long time, like I am with her !
She only added the runs to appeal to the American public. It is unusual for her - she uses them sparely. Listen to a song written for her sing, A Song for A. Just pure gorgeous voice. And you are right on - she can sing every genre and feel comfortable.
Angelina starts with cappela is then accompanied by the guitar, later came the piano and the song ends with the piano. No orchestra, just two instruments and Angelina's voice, that's all Angelina needs. The length of the songs is based on the specifications of AGT. BTW, the legendary Queen shared Angelina's performance on Twitter and gave it huge praise. Queen loved Angelina's own arrangement. ✌️😎🇩🇪🇪🇺💯
This is Angelina's way of introducing herself to the American audience where she was not well known. Your rant about excessive runs isn't necessary for Angelina. She had 2 1/2 min to impress a large TV audience, so she had to show what she could do vocally, as well as her genius arrangement skills by re-arranging an iconic song. She normally only uses the techniques that are needed, not just to show off, like many new singers. Her ability to emote is off the charts, she gives me goosebumps & makes me cry all the time. I've never seen anything like her in my life. Please do more Angelina & I liked & subscribed.
You need to hear more Angelina Jordan! She has the most beautiful and skilled voice that I have ever heard. Read Rusty’s post for her full bio and song catalog. She is the real deal with a golden heart to match her voice. For song suggestions of her 130 videos, there are only a few live performances (when she had a cold) and demos where she is less than amazing. Start with her appearances on Norway’s Got Talent, and watch her progression. She really starts to develop from just a great child singer to an artist around 10. My personal favorites are “You were always on my mind”, “Wake me up”, A million years ago”, and “Moon River”. Welcome to Angelina’s world...
Well, you've done it now. You have fallen into the vortex of Angelina Jordan who arguably brings the most confident, versatile, seemingly effortless, and fearless vocal artistry found today (whether measured across artists, genres, or decades). You may think this an exaggeration but listen to a few more of her many performances and (being a voice teacher) you will soon sing her praises louder than we amateurs! She will stagger you with her ability to find and bring forth the 'essence' of nearly any song. With her immense vocal toolkit and the work effort to make what she does only 'seem' effortless, she will hopefully be touching hearts for a long time to come. Why God has performed the miracle of touching the world with one of such talent, musical IQ, commitment, and generosity as Angelina we can wonder but we must all marvel. Welcome aboard the AJ train!
I think she added that many runs in this performance because that's what's expected in this show. She gave the audience what they came to get, but she did it in her own way, and as you said - it really works. I also know something else that really works, Angelina's performance of _Cole Porter's _*_Every Time We Say Goodbye_* ua-cam.com/video/KRSI8HmTHJA/v-deo.html - almost no "runs", just a few carefully considered trills to decorate some of the notes, jaw dropping inflections and mesmerizing phrasing .... and the most soft and beautiful voice you can ever imagine.
Your second song. Pick a song you like and maybe she has covered it. Witch genre is not importent she has done most. Jazz, blues, rock, disco, EDM .... She also have covered most of the legends.
This is the tip of an incredible iceburg of genius. Will subscribe for you to discover that she has been doing this and so much more since she was 7yrs old
You haven't even scratched the surface of what Angelina can do. Read Rusty Shackleford's comment and you will get a short (I know, it doesn't look that way) version of who she is. You cannot really have any idea of what she can do until you experience it. As you go, when you select one of her performances to analyze, you will start each one feeling skeptical about whether or not she can pull it off. You will never be disappointed. You will always be amazed and wanting more. You will fall in love. Please, continue. I just subscribed (after seeing many of your reactions) because you finally found Angelina Jordan.
Known for her love of Jazz and her ability to sing at lower registers uncommon for many older adults, let alone at 9 years old. She arranged and performed "I've Put a Spell on You" by Screamin' Jay Hawkins (his face is on the candle she holds at the start) located at ua-cam.com/video/nwFloCPXzCs/v-deo.html on her cover channel. Angelina is affectionately known as "the Boss" by her band. The reason I bring this piece to your attention is that she performs it at a very low register; something not often seen in female vocalists, let alone a 9 year old. I'm interested in your assessment of the techniques she uses. Best wishes and thanks for the excellent assessment.
You really have to look at the b/w version of 'I put a spell on you'. When you have recovered from that, you can explore the variety of things she can do.
Your first Angelina song? You have to watch her at 8 years old sing I put a Spell On You. Then checkout Someone Like You when she is about 14. There is nobody I would rather listen to.
You have to specify that it's the black-and-white version. He's going to make a mistake and pick something she did on stage instead, like some of these other vocal coaches did.
Well, first, this is not just some young girl that was auditioning for AGT. She is a 10+ year veteran of singing and arranging music. She won Norway's Got Talent at the age of 7/8 with one of the most incredible 4 song performances I have ever seen. Yes, the song BH could be seen as a bit run heavy, but that's what is in vogue, and this is a competition, so she showed how good she is at that. And yes, this is totally her arrangement. She's a jazz singer, so she gave the song a bluesie, jazz vibe. Shortly after the performance the band Queen tweeted: "WOW! What a great rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody. #angelina jordan." Pretty high praise from the creators of this song. She is the most phenomenal singer to come along in ages, and her story, singing from the crib to AGTC, is an incredible journey (over 100 covers and 5 originals). So if you go down that rabbit hole, be prepared for a substantial commitment. She has just signed a contract with Republic Records, a company many believe is the best in the business. They have designated her as their #1 new artist priority. So her "star" is about to shine very brightly. I could recommend many of her performances, all of which would be Fantastic. But I believe she is at her best when accompanied by just a single guitar or piano. So I will recommend my favorite performance by her, "California Dreamin'". Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/EBI7Km3z7-U/v-deo.html What she has done with this classic 60's pop song is beyond AMAZING!! After her rearrangement, it's like a brand new song. I'm just astounded ever time I hear it. And she was 12 when she made this. I loved your reaction, and I have subscribed to your channel. Best wishes. 😊💕
Really thought you would get more recommendations. That varies according to musical tastes. As a 70s something I love the 40-50s jazz, like "What a Difference a Day Makes" (age 8). Some longer, more current performances would be: Born to Die, Stay, A Million Years Ago to name just a few.
Good luck sorting through the flood of recommendations you asked for, lol. You have a journey in front of you with this girl and it sounds like AJ is going to be a favorite for you given your description of what you would like to hear. Enjoy!
I could see your reaction in your face during the performance :) Angelina is involve on every change on the songs she does. Angelina never gets nervous, even when she was 6 years old. She does better with just one guitar (Yvan Mendez on some songs). This is no one good song and does it. Angelina has many cover songs where she makes the songs better, sounding better than Adela and Lana del Rey, and many others. Age doesn't make sense with Angelina quality. You have to react to this song to understand: I PUT A SPELL ON YOU (the studio version, 9 years old) ua-cam.com/video/nwFloCPXzCs/v-deo.html Check her Amy performance: BACK TO BLACK (Amy Winehouse, 10 years old) ua-cam.com/video/LbXUKzOxACU/v-deo.html This performance is amazing. Her tone is gorgeous: BORN TO DIE (Lana del Rey, 12 years old) ua-cam.com/video/DNU-HcLuO_I/v-deo.html Remember Etta James? Check this performance. Sounds like Etta: I'D RATHER GO BLIND (Etta James, 12 years) ua-cam.com/video/pK8mMXQb3_I/v-deo.html
I think when singing in a National Talent Show, having only a very limited time to show your "wares" or your talent and what you can do... perhaps this is why there were so many runs and tricks. I absolutely love this beautiful version of a classic song. It is very difficult to spin a classic as your own. This prodigal child managed to create an even better version than the original. Amazing, musical Angel.
(I hope all of us AJ-Reactor fans are holding our breath for you to discover her Norway's Got Talent "Gloomy Sunday" then "Summertime" - in her 7- and 8-year self. Then you'll probably be shoved into PUT A SPELL... be sure to lock the seatbelt, keep yer hands in the car... once you start on this, it's going to be like a roller-coaster than only seems to get better. You'll hafta bounce into the lower-audio-quality'd MAN'S WORLD but she's still outstanding.
Thanks for the reaction on this miracle singer. I would suggest "I put a spell on you", "I Have Nothing" (Whitney Houston Tribute), "Shot Me Down" from NGT Semi and "Summertime" from NGT Final
Congratulations for reaction !!! Jazz, and the beautiful songs of the past, would be virtually extinct today ... overwhelmed by the mainstream media that only gives mediocre artists and lucrative songs a chance. I thank Angelina Jordan for rescuing real and good quality music. Incredibly, excellent singers and composers today forgotten are seeing their music being reborn and admired by the younger generation ... and the most amazing thing is that all this is happening thanks to a young woman of just 14 years old whose name is Angelina Jordan !! !
Nice reaction...I will suggest ..start where all began for Angelina...Norway got talent "Gloomy sunday"...and carry on ,explore "the rabbit hole"...it's a never ended journey...fascinating young girl.
Angelina understands what AGT audiences respond to. That is, first, belting, second, riffs and runs. She and her fans knows belting (though she can do it) is not her strength. Touching your soul is where she excels. Did she achieve that? This performance reflects her understanding of the moment and the audience. Her next song does also. So, win or lose the contest, she has drawn you in to her world.
Angelina has predominantly an old Jazz background so although she dips into other genres its Jazz and what might be described as older songs that she truly excels at. As for a next listen try Rusty's super-fan version of 'If You Go Away'. I swear no one can impart emotion into a song like this young lady...I believe she was only 12 yrs old when she sang this. Here's the link ua-cam.com/video/sDUgxwR4RZI/v-deo.html&ab_channel=RustyShackleford Enjoy!
She does fantastically! and the way this young girls just jumps into the role of a betrayed women being left by her lover....and the back to a happy Angelina? It´s almost scaring!
So happy you are reacting to Angelina, maybe react to one of her own songs "What Is Life" classic jazz; "Shield" Bond-style; "Oslo" about her home town. no runs in these.
Great reaction, thank you! Please react to her journey in the Norway's got Talent and go from there. Probably the most surprising of all, in my opinion, is "I Put a Spell on You", the black and white in studio recording. (Her tribute to Screaming Jay Hawkins at the age of 9.) She also has originals she has written that are more recent. Enjoy your journey discovering Angelina. She is a gift to all of us and is extremely talented and an amazing soul.
You need to check out her UA-cam repertoire. She has over 130 covers and originals and covers multiple genres. She rearranges virtually every cover and makes it her own, in many her version is better than the original. If you follow her down the rabbit hole, I suggest you start with “Feeling Good” at 10 years old. She won Norway’s Got Talent at age 8. If you start with her Norway’s Got Talent performances, your amazement will turn into the addiction that most of her fans suffer gladly.
Currently 2022, Angelina is 6 feet tall, always barefoot for performing, sews her own clothes and has the most gorgeous voice in the artistry world of music. She has done most if not all of her own arrangements since the age of 8 years old❗ I see nothing other than greatness in her future 🤗
I believe you have found the artist you will spend the rest of your life listening to for your own pleasure. She has been listening to Jazz since an infant probably in the womb. She is seen singing at eighteen months of age. She is scrolling through UA-cam at two and three. She tells her Mother after seeing AGT at three she wants to sing for Simon Cowell. At thirteen after waiting ten years she walk on his stage. At five she states she wants to sing at the Noble Peace Prize Concert. At eight she is invited there. At five she ask her Mother to be allowed to audition for Norway’s Got Talent, but is told she is too young. At seven she auditions with Billie Holidays “Gloomy Sunday “ four days later UA-cam has five million views in a nation of five million people. Four months later she wins Norway’s Got Talent at eight singing summertime. At five she stated she wanted to be a superstar and sing for the whole world. At fourteen she signs with Republic Records as there highest priority. Do you see a pattern here At five she was speaking fluent Norwegian, Persian and English. She is taking after school classes in music, voice, piano, violin and flute. At six she is in sound booth singing four songs. Rolling In The Deep, Hurt, Sky Fall, and most notably “ Tom Jones “ I Who Have Nothing “. Well worth reacting to as you see the joy displayed of her love for music.
You are in for a special treat with Angelina. She won Norways got talent at the age of Seven, performing Billie Holiday songs which are just gorgeous. Whats so special about her voice is that every rendition she makes is uniquely her own. Where many artists come on talent shows and usually perform songs to sound ad similar to the originals as possible, Angelina thoroughly enjoys stripping songs and creating them anew while still revering their original counterparts. Her instrument is powerful and she wields it masterfully. She doesnt over perform or add riffs/runs unless they benefit the song as oppose to those who do riffs and runs to "show off" their prowess. She was born for the stage. As you may or may not know she performs barefoot to bring awareness about poverty. Story goes that while travelling in India (I believe) she came across a young girl about her same age (6yrs old at the time) and the little girl worked the streets weighing people to earn a few coins for her family. Angelina asked her "what do you want to be when you grow up?" and the girl said "a Dr. and you?" and Angelina replied she wanted to be a singer so the girl told her she would pray for them both to fulfill their dreams. Angelina gave the girl her shoes and promised to perform barefoot to bring awareness, until all kids could be taken care of. The outfit she is wearing was hand made by her grandmother and the print is of paintings they have made. Angelina is thoughtful, compassionate and wise beyond her young years. She is an angel with an old soul and we are blessed to be able to hear her sing.
Dante She had turned 8 when she won NGT. She was in the Middle East when she met the young orphan girl earning money for her siblings. Her outfit is based on her grandmother's paintings, was designed by the two of them and sewed by Angelina...That should correct your errors!
Great explanation of what function a run serves. I agree with your assessment of overrunning among so many modern singers. AJ is not typically so run heavy. And you are right: She IS versatile. Very articulate reaction and analysis.
You really hit the nail on the head. Angelina really is an extremely versatile singer that can do many genre's. What she did for AGT was specific for that type of performance...contestant performance. Her 105 You Tube videos of her will give you a smorgasbord of an amazing array of treats. She does Amy Winehouse Covers better than pretty much anybody....Valarie....Born to Die...another Queen .... The Show Must Go On ... Fly me to the Moon ... La Boheme ... It's a Man's World... Somethings Got a Hold of Me.... Welcome to My World ... Autumn Leaves ... I'd rather Go Blind ... Wicked Games ...Stay....Nothing Breaks like a Heart.....Song for A....Nicholas Cartosio *written for her*...Still Holding Out For You...(will never be released..one of her very best)...I can't help falling in love with you.....Natural Woman......Summertime ........ Bang Bang ..... Gloomy Sunday...... I put a Spell on You (black and white version)....Everytime we say goodbye......These are all pretty different from each other......You will really get her versatility and great entertainment from these. Just a few of my favorites...LOL!!!!! AND very few runs!!! LOL!!!
I listened eyes closed to the second run through of Rhapsody. Indeed I could never have guessed her age. I am baffled why her age is so important. Other than surprise, I think it is merely notable only, not something that is crucial to enjoy her remarkable skills. What she has cannot be taught, imo. She is riveting, she draws me in, I forget where I am, I can not think, I just experience her celestial voice, her amazing presence. Like no other singer ever, I am transfixed. She owns the space around ger
....her, almost like hallowed ground. One immediately forgets who wrote the song, even if it was hers. It is as if her intro is an invitation to join and follow.......amazing.
I think Angelina would agree with you on the runs. This was a performance piece specifically for AGT and to show off as much of skills in one song as possible. Those skills are hard to quantize into one song though, due to intuitive ability to mold her voice to song, style, genre, and interpretation. It's why many refer to her as having a thousand voices, and all of them are great, except for the couple when she was sick, and they are still really good. But as to your question of what to listen to next? That depends on what you want to listen to. Her favorite is Jazz, but you can find her singing pretty much every genre. Now if you want to see a truly impressive acapella, and not as run heavy check this one out by her "I'm a Fool To Want You" ua-cam.com/video/6LIcQL5gLoY/v-deo.html
_Wicked Games_ (Chris Isaak cover) - ua-cam.com/video/5IAMF4FDfw4/v-deo.html fan-made video. Absolutely gorgeous. This is the best video out there for Angelina's Wicked Game.
@@djs2006 something wrong with youtube lately. I have also been having issue with submitting posts with links, Those links would get stripped from the posts. I usually have tp edit a few times until everything is ok. youtube is getting buggy.
I agree with your run rant lol. But Angelina uses them for emotion, when she uses that style. Listen to most of her other covers and originals. There aren't as many, if any at all. As a couple of commenters suggested below, she squeezed all of her strengths into 2 minutes for AGT. You will be getting plenty of suggestions from the other AJ fans. Welcome to our barefoot angels world. Can't wait for more reactions from you. Thanks
Nice reaction. Others have given you info, suggestions and links. I agree with all. Some that i like (out of my 50-60 favorites) include Summertime at age 8 on Norway's Got Talent all of NGT is amazing), I Put a Spell on You at 9 yo(b/w studio version), Feeling Good at 10 yo, Everytime We Say Goodbye (watch out Ella), Shield (tv show version) an original (What is Life and Oslo are two more), California Dreamin (an interesting arrangement), and many many more. Hope you stay with Angelina. I liked what you said. Check out her YT channel if you want to look for a special choice. I'll sub in for more Angelina. This will be fun!
I have listened to Angelina for several years och and got very surprised hearing this song. This was the first time in over 100 covers she used so many runs. You can chose almost any of her other songs if you want to avoid runs. (But avoid ”I’ll be there” from 2014 where she was sick and you can clearly hear that that performance was not up to her usual standard).
At the start : I laugh as you point out that even though I have yet to hear your evaluation of the song to go ahead and 'subscribe' (0.43) . . . . & 1:03 ' go ahead ' Ha - ha ! ! ! Very Good ! ! You point out well @ 5:38 it's national TV and to do what she just did is not only composed, yet the match when the orchestra comes in is . . . . . . perfection . 8:38 You are dancing around the 'thing' here = only song you have heard of hers ! ! ! Good point ! ! ! They were good . . . . really really good . . . . ( yes ) . You already know that she has ' found ' that she is really versatile . For your first impression I like your reaction . Thank you . RH
*Angelina Jordan*
- Angelina Jordan was born Jan 10 2006 in Oslo, Norway. She is currently 14
- She began singing at the age of one and a half
- At 2 or 3 she discovered Jazz through her grandmother and started studying all the greats from Jazz history with youtube videos.
- In an interview after the show, when asked what she was going to do with the prize money, the 8 year old replied, "I would like to give it to orphans that need clothes and shoes"
- When Angelina was 9 years old she became the youngest published author in Norway, when she wrote a book about the story of why she doesn't wear shoes when she sings.
(she can cover Amy Winehouse and Lana del Rey like nobody else)
- Angelina has collaborated with some very big names over the last few years... Quincy Jones, Mark Ronson, David Foster, Alan Walker and many more. All of which heard her and were blown away by her talent.
- Angelina has written three of her own original songs: "What is Life", "Shield" and "Oslo". (all are amazing...all can be found on youtube)
In summary, Angelina Jordan is destined to be one of the greatest singers to have ever lived.
Should post the link to your playlist so they can listen to more ;-)
@@artfartzy Yes, if anyone is new to Angelina and would like to get a good overview of her career so far, have a look at this chronological playlist of some of my favorites from Age 7 to 13....ua-cam.com/play/PL2v8kgVeo4EbYDVnRwObjETfWpXbzbgIO.html
Thank you Rusty for always helping new reactors with Angelina Jordan's history. I'm old school and she is just a wonderful soulful being ... I listen to her every day and particularly in the evenings.
I agree with Cecilia Tommy . . . . . ! ! !

Excellent excellent coment Håkon Isak Sarak. So well said, and I join in completely.
Hi Deena - the only thing I don't like about AJs songs is that come to an end. Those that last under two minutes are just frustrating.
She is probably the most versatile singer you will ever react to. A jazz/blue queen who can do EDM. It does not get more versatile than that. I enjoyed your reaction and analysis. I subscribed and I look forward to your reactions to Angelina's outstanding cover works and originals.
Here is a link to the EDM: ua-cam.com/video/rpdHJJQAd9Y/v-deo.html
Her run as she did the crescendo to the high note was the same five notes by the guitarist in the queen song at that point.
Queen members was wowed by Angelina version, they posted her performance and praised her on official FB and Twitter. Stay safe.
Queen was also blown away by her rendition of The Show Must Go On. They should be her back-up
group in a stage some day.
Listen to her TV2 performance of 'Shield' a song she wote when she was 12. It has even been covered by contestents in other talent competitions
Angelina has recently signed with Republic Records...album soon..
I am sure after this performance, you are going to get enchanted by Angelina's angel dust . We all have. She is a talent in a million!!!!!!
Black and white version
Angelina is really good. I can recommand "Every time we say goodbye". Here she is just 10 y, and this is one of the most soul- setting performance I have seen. Simple and intimate.
Thank so much!!
My current favorite!
Yes! She can be a ten year old Ella. This cover is perhaps her most pure.
@@MikeGoodrich Hi Mike, Angelina just released a new original song called Million Miles =)
Here is a link: ua-cam.com/video/KRSI8HmTHJA/v-deo.html
Angelina is insane!!!
Angelina only sings like this for AGT. She threw more into this song just for the show. She chops and changes to suit the song. I recommend her versions of California Dreaming and Wicked Game. They pared back and feel different from the originals. They are Angelinafied.
Second start from the beginning: her audition at age 7 for Norway Got Talent.
Yes!! I remember watching that audition few years ago. Chills!!
In addition to her Norway’s Got Talent audition (that she won at age 8) she sang I’ve Got a Spell on You at age 9 that will blow your mind.

From now on you are assimilated in Angelinas entourage! Resistence is futil...
Even if you won't believe it and if you are in denial about it: Only listen to one song sung by Angelina Jordan and you are hocked on listening her voice! May be you aren't aware of it yet... a legend says in rare cases there are humans who can resist.... but I can't believe it ;-)

May be you wonder, what videos you should next react to ;-) ...
There is a big pile of over 130 videos on youtube with Angelina Jordans rehearsals, covers and originals...
She is born 10th Januar 2006, sung her first notes of a Whitney Houston song with 18 months (link see down), started researching the internet for Jazz 3 yo, entered Norske Talenter (Norwegian Got Talent) 7 yo and won it 8 yo, was on AGT The Champions (recorded Oct. 2019, aired Jan. 2020) where she didn't won - some rumours say because she/her mother didn't sign the contract with the enterprise of Simon Cowell for to stay independed - meanwhile she has signed with Republic Records (musicnorway.no/news/industry-talk-michael-astar/).

In addition to school she got also vocal training at the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program - and btw. she plays also grand piano, violin, flute and guitar, make her arrangements herself, wrote a book, sew clothes for herself (partly with art from her granma like in her first AGT performance and in her music video "Shield").
So she is a real multitalent and I think all her fans are eager to see and hear what she is doing next...
And last but not least the newest (as far as I know) video of AJ singing in a rehearsal - uploaded August 10th 2020: ua-cam.com/video/4jU9Hhf3ayo/v-deo.html
All the other things like more recommendation, chronological playlists and so on you can read in the comments of the megafans like Fernando F., Rusty ...
And a little Question:
When you react to her cover "I put a spell on you" b/w studio version at 9yo (ua-cam.com/video/nwFloCPXzCs/v-deo.html - btw. she made most of her cover arrangements by herself!) it would be nice to react in the same reaction video IN ADVANCE to the original from Screemin' Jay Hawkins (from 1956 - ua-cam.com/video/7kGPhpvqtOc/v-deo.html - that's real fun :-D ) - and than you will find out that Angelinas cover is a real tribute to Jay Hawkins :-D
Thanks a billion again for your reaction! ...and see you soon with your next AJ reactions - with greetings from Berlin/Germany :-D Best regards
Andreas
My favorite song she did was "I put a spell on you" when she was 8 or 9. Please react to it. It's so amazing and surprising.
Have you reacted to this? Here is a link: ua-cam.com/video/nwFloCPXzCs/v-deo.html
Angelina is 13 here. The soul of this young is god-given. She does her own thing each song. you need to hear her do I put a spell on you when she was 8. Fly me to the moon, summertime.
Great video!
Please react to Angelina singing "What a difference a day makes" when she was 8 years old.
To fulfill your request try the song Stay. Enough said.
one bravo for your request. 'Stay' is the one.
Here's the link for Stay for your convenience. ua-cam.com/video/_GSVPvCy3Yg/v-deo.html
Tnx for your honest review.Try her cover of Adelle "a million years ago".
What is your source for the "5 octave range" claim?
They are (with short descriptions):
- Cry Me a River (Arthur Hamilton/Julie London).
Can’t wait for you to react to more of Angelina???👍🏼🤗
She's just simply from another planet.
I love everything about her.
I doubt there is another singer who works so hard to ensure that, when she sings the song, it is sung in such a way that her listener becomes enmeshed in the emotions
So, here a few recordings for you to consider.

One thing which several of the new reactors - and those who have returned to her have decided, is to follow her career from the start. If you should decide to do the same, go to Rusty Shackleford's website and look at the list he has compiled of Angelina songs in chronological order.Rusty Shackleford - Chronological order ua-cam.com/channels/55am_6Y5-Fj4ri8xOInstA.html
I can recommand "Every time we say goodbye".

Angelina's fans are millions strong, very loyal and dedicated and as nice as any people you will ever interact with.
Angelina adores her little sister Juliette who can be seen dancing behind Angelina in this Amy Winehouse cover video: ua-cam.com/video/sqmJLkgk2Ik/v-deo.html Even more charming is this Angelina - Juliette video: ua-cam.com/video/q-esPeHV_gE/v-deo.html
Angelina turned 14 on Jan 10, 2020.
Welcome to this rabbit hole.
Why are all of you apologizing for her runs? He enjoyed them. I just enjoy the reaction.
I laughed out loud when you suggested that she may discover more versatility.
I hope you react to these songs by Angelina Jordan

Only 1 word to describe Angelina that everyone says WOW
Warning once you watch her & react you'll be hooked, & there's no cure.
I believe she was put here for such a time as this so that God could use her voice to calm everyone down.
Like Angelina, Laura is also a prodigy that has a lot of character & class too. She also has a God given voice, talent & character. Great reaction
You will find that she has always been fearless.
Rusty Shackleford should be along later to guide your Angelina Jordan journey...
@@sandyleewhite I think she could command an army easily.
@@sandyleewhite - agree !
She only added the runs to appeal to the American public. It is unusual for her - she uses them sparely. Listen to a song written for her sing, A Song for A. Just pure gorgeous voice. And you are right on - she can sing every genre and feel comfortable.
Why are all of you apologizing for her runs? He enjoyed them. Just enjoy the reaction.
Well said. She has the same effect on me. I have to listen by myself, I prefer my kids not see me weep.
I also know something else that really works, Angelina's performance of _Cole Porter's _*_Every Time We Say Goodbye_*
ua-cam.com/video/KRSI8HmTHJA/v-deo.html - almost no "runs", just a few carefully considered trills to decorate some of the notes, jaw dropping inflections and mesmerizing phrasing .... and the most soft and beautiful voice you can ever imagine.
Your second song. Pick a song you like and maybe she has covered it.
Witch genre is not importent she has done most. Jazz, blues, rock, disco, EDM ....
She also have covered most of the legends.
amazing Angelina! and lovely reaction!
9 years
You have to specify that it's the black-and-white version. He's going to make a mistake and pick something she did on stage instead, like some of these other vocal coaches did.

Listen to her version of Born to Die. i can't remember many runs in that.
Angelina is a Vocal Goddess. She is always amazing.
Enjoy!
I could see your reaction in your face during the performance :)
Angelina is involve on every change on the songs she does.
You have to react to this song to understand:
I PUT A SPELL ON YOU (the studio version, 9 years old) ua-cam.com/video/nwFloCPXzCs/v-deo.html
Check her Amy performance:
BACK TO BLACK (Amy Winehouse, 10 years old) ua-cam.com/video/LbXUKzOxACU/v-deo.html
This performance is amazing. Her tone is gorgeous:
BORN TO DIE (Lana del Rey, 12 years old) ua-cam.com/video/DNU-HcLuO_I/v-deo.html
Remember Etta James? Check this performance. Sounds like Etta:
I'D RATHER GO BLIND (Etta James, 12 years) ua-cam.com/video/pK8mMXQb3_I/v-deo.html
Your going to get plenty of recommendations for songs by this unbelievably talented artist. Get ready to jump on this Monster Train!!
It’s A Man’s World
B/W “I Put a Spell on You” (Jim Hawkins inspiration) She is nine years old.
(Her tribute to Screaming Jay Hawkins at the age of 9.)
She also has originals she has written that are more recent. Enjoy your journey discovering Angelina. She is a gift to all of us and is extremely talented and an amazing soul.
You could also check out her singing 'I put a spell on you in the studio with a jazz quartet. Oh yes, she was 9.
She is amazing explore more of her singing please.
This it what happens when you react to Angelina Jordan lol she has two of her own channels...plenty to guide you... great reaction ty
Do you see a pattern here
At five she was speaking fluent Norwegian, Persian and English.
Other than surprise, I think it is merely notable only, not something that is crucial to enjoy her
remarkable skills.
I would suggest "Wicked Game" at @ It meets your specifications and demonstrates Angelina's voice and understanding of the song.
_Wicked Games_ (Chris Isaak cover) - ua-cam.com/video/5IAMF4FDfw4/v-deo.html fan-made video. Absolutely gorgeous. This is the best video out there for Angelina's Wicked Game.
@@lilsun724 Exactly! My link did not work, but your's did.
@@djs2006 something wrong with youtube lately. I have also been having issue with submitting posts with links, Those links would get stripped from the posts. I usually have tp edit a few times until everything is ok. youtube is getting buggy.
...add to that a beautifull human being...
I loved your reaction. I agree with the runnings nowadays.
Thank you . RH
