Good day of fishing. That was a nice looking walleye. As the rest are saying, definitely going to need that steel leader for the pike. There are plenty of different types available. "American Fishing Wire" makes a quality product that you can tie yourself. And a Medium heavy/ or heavy action "Ugly Stick" is a great reasonably priced option for pike fishing. Good Luck Fishing
Hey Vernon, I am so glad to see how you were adapting to fishing up there in Canada. It amazes me the different types of fish you catch up there. Compared to Lake Mead. It’s amazing.😊
@ Y’know pike usually go by weed beds for the first part of winter and when the ice freezes they come out. The one I caught was pretty skinny so when I was using a rattling lure the noise intrigued him and then he took it.
For pike fishing I would recommend always using a steal leader the pikes teeth cut through most lines pretty easy also love your vids!
Thanks, I will be sure to stock up before trying again.
Metal wire leader is a must my friend
I Hear you, Thanks. Just been struggling to find a good setup to get good casts with the leaders.

Thanks. Might be a good time to dedicate my Ugly Stick pike fishing.
8lb test monofilament is what is usually on my families reels. But we never target northern pike without a steel leader at least 6” in length.
Thanks Emily, I have lost several steel leaders while top water fishing, but I will be sure to use them for pike.
Well done. Great video. We are learning too, so thanks for that.
Glad it was helpful!
Nice work, Vernon! We miss you over here in South Africa, but I'm glad to see you're having fun! ❤🇿🇦❤️
Thanks, at least you get to see some different spot.

Thanks Ralph. Cooler water does sustain more diversity, and helps fish grow big too. But It all has a cost...
Great video! Love pulling in fat pike at Fort Whyte, they go crazy for spoons. Tight lines Vernon, hope to see you there one day!
Thanks, keep one eye on the rod and look for me with the other.
@@FinallyFishing Was a pleasure meeting you! Next time the promise will be kept, we'll get those monsters. ;)
Dude you were slaying it today.
Thanks, always nice if the fish want's to be on the internet.
Hey I fished here only got one but it was a 30 inch🔥🔥🔥
Nice, that had to be a good catch. I have seen some monsters out there. Wonder where they hide in winter...
