What weight of line do you usually use for pike, George? My lightest setup has approx. 26 lbs braid, my medium 40 lbs, and the heavier ones I plan to create will probably be 60 - 80 lbs.
When Mine were that little, there was no way I was taking a rod on a walk. How times have changed, and how lucky You are to have Understanding Lady. As soon as they could hold a rod, and catch their first Pike. There was no stopping them. Both have caught Pike over 20lb's now, and loving It. Thanks for sharing. Keep 'Em Coming.
Replacement arrived!By the way, I did forget to mention that the original lure did have a decent strike however as most anglers will attest you can get a hit ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 and fish will hang on and release lure. I used the replacement lure yesterday and ran thru a Shimano Waxwing, Kastmaster, Bobber (set to sink). I found the does run deep (I casting on the flats 3.5'). Make sure you adjust your rate of retrieve and rod tip angle (up) to prevent getting snagged on bottom. Used it a couple of times and action was very lifelike (looked like local bait fish for trevally), craftsmanship very good....however eyeball fell out. I asked for replacement and it is on it's way! It was very easy to change out treble to single inline hook.
Fantastic job!! Love your style and I’m impressed that you had the little one with you as you fished ! Very impressive!! Look forward to seeing more from you!

Very inspiring video haven't been fishing since I moved inland despite there being loads of free river fishing on the Thames near me after seeing this I might give it a try.
The best lure for canal pike i found was the rap all super shad rap in natural roach finish. I used to work mine by throwing it out 10-15 ft from the bank and then i would start walking the tow path, towing the lure behind me. It always got nailed as it came in closer to the bank and not just by pike but perch as well, i heartily recommend trying it, yes i know its big but they love it. Oh i used to fish mine with a 6ft bait casting rod and reel ( the john Wilson one) loaded with braid, tight lines.
As if your lass goes with you and has a go too! Diamond right there mate, I hooked a massive pike on a jack lure fist cast the other day I was buzzin! Nice vid lad
Best endeavours with fly fishing..casting , retrieve .lines ..leaders... and that small matter of the actual fishing... Ive just about finished my fly fishing apprenticeship...started in 1974
Nice video! Pike fisherman from northern US here. The Jerkbait is a really overlooked lure here in the states fishing for pike, but I use jerkbaits 80% of the time for them. Try using the jerkbait by twitching the lure. I've caught decent sized pike with the Rapala Ripstop 12. If you really want serious action with a simple to use lure I highly suggest the rapala J13 jointed swimbait. PIKE ARE CRAZY for those lures.
Fishing with Rapala 5g sinker today was gold trout addition. Pike absolutely smashed it. Was not expecting it. Originally bought lure for troat fishing but catches all predators basically.

Awesome action! A gross but effective tip is to smear the blood on the lure, and it's a great fish attractant. Husky jerks work great here in the Detroit River and Lake St. Clair in the US, where we have lots of really fat pike that don't get very long due to warm summer temperatures. A 3 foot fish is a really big one here, but we can catch mid 20s to low 30s inch fish all day long. It's also an awesome trolling lure, run way back. Pumping motions often get them to nail it. Hi mate use to take my little along with me. Can you add a UK link for that exact lure please . Majority of ones on ebay are different sizes and from overseas with very high postage.
Great session, im learning about pike fishing still and every proper guide i find seems to say either float or ledger but what i see most people catching on is just lures with no weight. I was out today with a ball weight and float and caught nothing, although i was also trying to jig the bait about a bit by reeling it in slowly. Am i right in thinking you have nothing but the leader and the lure? Is there a name for this type of pike fishing and is there a time when you would stop doing this? E.g when it gets colder?
Just wire trace with a lure clipped on that's all you need! You can catch pike all year round doing this. Using deadbaits can be more productive when the water is really cold though as the fish are more lethargic and less likely to chase something down. In winter use bigger lures with slower presentation!
Hi love the channel, just trying to get into fishing myself I’ve bought a x5 adventure rigged and ready rod on your recommendation, just curious what braid you used on this trip?
Thanks for watching! The X5 is great, for pike I’d recommend the rigged and ready 33lb if you’re fishing somewhere snaggy, or 22lb if there aren’t many snags and you’re just using lures

Nice video and well done on such a short session. Do you take the barbs off your lures. I only ask as I'm new to pike fishing on canals and every bit of advice is greatly appreciated
Thanks mate! I take the barbs off my trout lures yeah, and any pike deadbait gear, but not normally for pike lures. Just make sure your line is braid and strong enough with a wire trace 👍
Hi, great video. I've been sea fishing for a few years but looking to try and catch some pike I'm the scottish lochs. I've just bought a 14g lure, would u just attach a swivel and the lure or would you add weight to that?
Id tie the line to a wire trace then just use that unless the water is really deep. Then you can use a little clip on weight. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
Ahh, we just love fishing around densely populated areas. Just amazing, especially when they ask if you have a fishing license, where you're from and act like they're interested 😒

Jack be nimble, jack be quick , jack jump in this fecking net 😂. P.S. “ Your like a sick pike !” ( Withnail & I ) 😂
I'm not quite sure what you mean!
Great session man, what net are you using there? Looks a good bit of kit, keep on rockin man 🎉
Nice video and well done on such a short session.
Caught a monster pike on a light perch rod, felt like fighting a great white!
Cool video buddy, what landing net is that ?
Hi, great video. I've been sea fishing for a few years but looking to try and catch some pike I'm the scottish lochs. I've just bought a 14g lure, would u just attach a swivel and the lure or would you add weight to that?
Oh and it's the rapala x rap peto lure I have just bought
Id tie the line to a wire trace then just use that unless the water is really deep. Then you can use a little clip on weight. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
That's a great lure, good choice
Ahh, we just love fishing around densely populated areas. Just amazing, especially when they ask if you have a fishing license, where you're from and act like they're interested 😒
Haha true!
Brilliant.
Thanks mate!
0:55 Is that a catfish? 😂😂👍🏼
😂 funny looking one if it is!
I wish you mentioned what lure you were using
😂
Excellent work. Went for 3hrs this morning. Not a nip 😂
That's a shame mate, all you can do is try again!
Great video!

I caught my first fish after watching this with a rapala countdown
They're great lures
Hi, great video, do you need a permit to fish that stretch?

I caught 6 Pike in 6 casts near Kingston Ontario, went back the next day and caught 6 large mouth in about the same amount of time.
Well done mate! Would be lying if I said I wasn't jealous 😂 I'd absolutely love to do some largemouth bass fishing, so sad we don't have them in the UK
@@adventurefishinguk take yourself to Canada mate, I worked there for 20 years had a bass boat and everything. Northern Ontario and Manitoba some of the biggest Pike around also Muskey, lake trout 30lbs plus. It’d be great for the channel
@@tarmac1697 I would love to. I have some family over in Vancouver that I haven’t visited since I was really young. Would be the trip of a lifetime
Got my 1st pike today mate. My god my heart was pounding lol.
Well done mate! What lure did you get it on?
@@adventurefishinguk 2 n half inch diving crank bait. I was there going for chub on the bread. Thdn i saw the pike sitting in a slack. So switch over to the lure and banged a wire trace on. It took it 2nd cast.
@@adventurefishinguk Actually my lure was the same colour as yours in this vid. They must like that
@@riverhuntersuk7387 good fishing mate 👍 glad you nailed it
@@adventurefishinguk Thanks bro! Think im addicted now 😂👍
How big is that husky ? I need to get one asap
I think 8cm mate!
@@adventurefishinguk managed to get hold of one now thanks
Very nice’ trout ‘😂
😂 funniest looking trout i've ever seen!
First time fishing for pike today myself ever (carp fisherman) and went with the mrs! And swear after about 4 hours I hooked into one about 3lb and knocked it off at the net 😂 can you recommend any lures for the summertime or is it like different colour for winter summer ? Like baits for carp ?
Great video btw
Unlucky mate, happens to the best of us! For the summertime its more about presentation that colour. Topwater lures work well in the summer, i'd recommend having a go with the savage gear topwater snake in its smaller size. Great lure and you'll have some good fun with it!
@@adventurefishinguk thanks for the reply, only just see it as my YT notifications ain’t working for some reason.will give it a go cheers
Hello,i pike fish alot and i can highly recommend the Westin swim 12cm suspending..the roach one with the orange belly, its a magnet.
