Despite what happened all those years ago with Fish leaving the band the way he did, and all the negative press, they still clearly have that special bond that made them superstars and still have that respect for one another. Brilliant.
Saw them warm up for Rush in the early 80’s at Radio City music Hall, I had never heard of them until that day. Have been a huge fan of the Fish era ever since.
Whilst I tolerate the "new" Marillion and don't get me wrong they've done some good stuff (including a track on my wedding video!), but this line up will always be Marillion for me....
Maybe sometimes , new Singer is not so bad 🤘 Genesis , Nightwish , Marillion 🙏🏻, Toto , Styx , Art Of Arnachy ! There must be more ! Then no Queen ( Freddy ) , no ELO ( Jeff ) no Supertramp ( Roger H ) no Sweet ( Brian ) no Slade ( Noddy ) no Sailor ( George ) no Thin Lizzy ( Phil ) No Mike & The Mechanics ( Paul G ) no Manfred Mann ( Chris T ) That’s My opinion 🤘
@@oveandersen3807 Kinda agreed with some of those bands you mentioned, however it never panned out for bands like AC/DC without Bon Scott and I am afraid Marillion is in the same boat in that regard, I mean without Fish, they were never Marillion.
The Fish stuff is ok 😂 Are you fucking kidding ??? If you'd been there right from the start you'd be saying something different . Fish had a unique voice and was a fantastic lyricist , who they never replaced !!! Steve Hogarth, is a bog standard replacement . All the Fish albums were great regardless wot you think. Have the Hogarth Marillion done a better album than Clutching At Straws, or any of the Fish era 🙄 Simple answer to that is no .... Because they no longer have Fish . No Fish ...No Marillion, its that simple . i have listened to the Hogarth era . Glad i jumped ship when Fish left, its just not Marillion without him.
Blimey I have just found this. Didnt even know they got back for this. This is the true lineup and the best. So good to see them.back together one more time. Thanks for filming and posting just a shame it took me so long to happen across it
Thank you so much Henk. I've seen footage of this performance before but nothing close to what you got here. This is history, thanks again for sharing!
There is no Marillion without Fish. For me, in most of the cases the singer makes what the band is. They should have looked out for another name when he leaved because it wasnt the same anymore afterwards. The first 4 albums were masterpieces and my older brother loved this band. He brought marillion to me.
Thought the same for a long time. The first 4 albums are still some of the best music ever, BUT. I've seen them with H twice recently and they are a different kind of good. They quite clearly love what they do, and the fans that turn up are still firmly behind them, and that's how it should be.
Marillion are fantastic AND always will be one of my top bands. The guys were never up their own arses like some I could mention. Very humble. I met Pete Trewavas and Ian Mosley at an album launch party for 'Marbles'. They were lovely. What's with Fish? Turning his back on the crowd while singing is just the height of ignorance.
I loved this band back in the day. The Hammersmith gigs, Milton Keynes etc. Misplaced was hardly ever out of my cassette player at the time. They revived Prog Rock almost singlehandedly at the time. I kind of lost interest after the Season's End album.
Me too, however, thought their album in 2016 (FEAR) was pretty decent and worth a listen. I wasn't old enough to go to gigs back in the 80s, but my older brother went to see them at Hammersmith in the 80s I recall. Misplaced is an epic album. I will say that I love the song Easter, but aside from that all my favs would be from the Fish era.
awesome, imagine the heights they could have achieved if only Fish had stayed the course, i love the music Marillion made with FISH but were never the same when he left, i had the chance to see them at their peak so i take that has a blessing.
He did walk up as if realising he hadn’t but then he had his bass on. I wouldn’t read too much into it, it looks like one of those in the moment omissions.
Near the end of the Clutching At Straws tour (still their best album to me), when they played in San Francisco, they were somehow convinced by a local dj (Greg Stone for anyone who cares) to do a show at a little nightclub in San Jose he co-managed, The Cabaret. They came down with a bare bones stage set up and did a show that was amazing. When they played "Torch Song," Fish picked up a drink and wandered around through the audience. And when he sang, "A hand held over a candle," he grabbed a candle off a table and held his hand over it. You didn't get that at other shows. We had no idea they were about to come apart at the seams, but it was inevitable. Actually, I thought Marillion got better with Hogarth, and Fish got better solo, and on that album you could hear them already pulling in different directions, so it was meant to be.
Went to a concert once just to see Marillion open. When the main act came on, we sat through a few numbers, looked at each other, and left. I remember exactly who the main act was, but I don't want to say.
Saw them in 85/86 open for Rush in the midwest. I specifically went for Marillion but unfortunately the rest of the crowd wasn't having it and was jeering and booing thru their entire set. They were fantastic just not a good audience.
Pete is the toughest of all and I think he was the one who had the biggest disagreement with Fish before they separated, it definitely leaves its mark!!!
This footage should be preserved in the National Library of Congress
I needed to see this. This lineup is Marillion for me. Still listen to their first four albums to this day.

Nah, Marbles, Fear, Sounds and many others are fantastic.
Stephen J Yes but none of those are as good as Misplaced or Clutching

Disagree, there is plenty of magic if you you want to take your blinkers of and look for it.
