Remembering this era is a gift of my generation, The music was made with so much passion and was "so us" . The kids thses days might listen to it but never hear it. those that do hear it are truly gifted..
Shut the fuck up and stop saying "kids these days will never understand X" you are embarrassing us older generations. "Kids these days" have better response to what they have than we did. As a matter of fact, behind all of these good things we remember we hide so many bad decisions, bad influences, problems and deceptions. We choose to forget them and still hold new generations accountable of the behavior of a few as if it were the norm. Don't treat liking a specific kind of music of a mean to feel better about yourself.
Back in the 70s, when you saw one of the great prog bands, you usually sat in awe during the whole concert. When Marillion performed, the audience was also a major part of the experience. On their feet, and singing along. Continued with solo Fish, and the audience excitement continued also with Hogart Marillion. This was even more awesome.
This was the first Marillion track I ever heard. They were my band of the 80s and saw them live many times throughout the Fish years. . I have friends who continued to follow them after Fish but I just couldn't. He was one of the great front men and had some great solo stuff. Full disclosure, I had a full belt fangirl crush on him.
Fish could certainly put on a hell of a performance. As well as being a great singer and lyricist. The music is as tight as a ducks ass as well. Brilliantly played. An all time prog rock classic.
I'm actually hearing this band for the very first time right now.... ... and I'm absolutely loving it. First thing that comes to mind is a Scottish version of 70's Genesis. Suddenly, I feel less nostalgic about early Genesis. What they did in the 80's now seems to make sense. These guys obviously picked up the torch.
One huge regret is that when I was young and at boarding school I never really thought to listen to Marillion. I even gave up the chance to see them at Reading back in the 80’s. Now I wish I hadn’t been so blinkered! They’re bloody amazing.
First heard this, many years ago, on the jukebox in The Raven in Wakefield, and at first thought i'd discovered an unknown Genesis track. Been a Marillion fan ever since........
This is a bloody great song, best thing they ever did IMO, he has a great voice. They were very brave to do the prog thing in the 80s, when it was so clearly out of fashion.
Muito show.Nunca havia escutado antes.Trabalhei com um cara nos anos 90,que falava muito deles.Hoje ouvi porque apareceu alguém falando a história da banda Fish é um gênio.Show.
Fish was the first. He was a perfect for the time. Love ROTHERY either way. Marillion is different now but for the time it is perfect. Times and things change just like Marillion. I love both versions.
I'm 34 now and was raised on Marillion. I proud to have been around to enjoy this era. Only recently I went to see The Fishheads in Brighton, and all I can say, he still got it.
BEEN LUCKY enough tosee MARILLION,accompanied by VAN DER GRAAF, OH what a WEEK THAT was,FROM LONDON TO CARDIFF,and WE got to meet BOTH BANDS, brilliance extraordinaire,!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Garden Party Always !!! Salud y Vida Pa'lante !!! Cheers and Life On !!!
Fish is such a wonderful front man & an amazing singer. He was also best live. Marillion wete never the same after he left, imo. His lyrics are pure poetry. Their best song ever, imo, was never a single in its own right, but the B side of Market Square Heroes, Grendel.
José Vieira Fish himself compared themselves to Genesis in their early days, similar but different. I am happy to enjoy both!! Only Genesis has to be with Gabriel, not afterwards!!
Genesis were light years ahead of them ! There’s no comparison,’ even fish giggled when his band was compared to Genesis, Genesis were true top shelf musicians and writers, no one came close ! Not Pink Floyd or Yes or ELP ! Marrillion were the best of the new wave of proggers in the 80’s along with several others I used to follow at the marquee club, Inc IQ, Pendragon, Solstice, Jadis, the Enid, and few others, Marrillion made it because EMI signed them with the aim for releasing singles in mind for the charts. I followed them all for years, until prog died a 2nd Death. I don’t see much around today of the standard of the early 80’s, it’s more prog metal or cheesy.
@@tiplady you right.but Marillon was a prog rock band.like iron maiden or scorpions was heavy metal har rock band.you hace place for everybody in one category.now you have the reference of diferent styles like genesis in prog.or led zeppelin in hard rock heavy metal muzic.so for mee ay dont like to compare.everybody ave something to give to is muzic style

You don't know H...but there is none comparable to Fish in these days....
The whole Script for a Jesters Tear album is just pure magic.
Fish`s voice makes me shake.
My god Marillion were an amazing band with Fish at the helm. Still listen to all the albums still after all these years.
Remembering this era is a gift of my generation, The music was made with so much passion and was "so us" . The kids thses days might listen to it but never hear it. those that do hear it are truly gifted..
I hear it
I Love prog as a boy from the 2000s

Long gone era … No bands these days with the same quality of music and lyrics. But it will live forever in our hearts and minds … and YT ;)
First heard this, many years ago, on the jukebox in The Raven in Wakefield, and at first thought i'd discovered an unknown Genesis track. Been a Marillion fan ever since........

That sip of Guinness before passing it to the audience is legendary. My father was always telling me that was cola, but now I know it wasn't!
This is a bloody great song, best thing they ever did IMO, he has a great voice. They were very brave to do the prog thing in the 80s, when it was so clearly out of fashion.

Love and have loved this song since 1st time I heard it
Only Fish could completely mystify his audience with such finger gestures but still entertain them.
This music saved my life in difficult time of adolescence
Fish was a true Romantic Poet Warrior ⭐️

I get furious when someone compare them with genesis!
Remember this: Marillion with FISH were unique...
Agree
