Many years ago, I had to make this as part of a cooking class in junior high school. It remember it being called Company potatoes, but it is the same recipe. My mom took me to the store to get the ingredients and we ended up buying frozen cubed hashbrowns instead of the shredded. My cooking teacher commented that they were even better than using the shredded. I’ve had these only a handful of times since making them for a class, but they are very delicious but super rich.
Instead of corn flakes, I put panko bread crumbs and Parmesan cheese. Plus I just use one can of cream of celery soup and a can of heavy cream. I also use white extra sharp instead of regular cheese.
I guess you could call mine Millionaire's Funeral Potatoes
I made this recipe yesterday for lunch at work, everyone loved it.
I have a cousin that makes this for funerals, Christmas, basically any time we all get together. They are soooooo good! I have another cousin that doesn't like the corn flakes on top. 🤷🏻♀️ thanks for sharing!!
I need more people to die so I can get more free food
Yum, I made these last night and baked it this morning for a breakfast potluck... so easy. I didn’t get to bring any back home because they ate it up. I will definitely be making these again. 😋👍
Yummy 😋 I'm gonna try making these with our Easter Dinner, be delicious with Ham.
We love these potatoes I'm going to make some tonight and I got an idea I think I will put my leftover cornbread stuffing on top!
I made this tonight and I served it alongside Ham and Brocolli. They all complimented each other so well!
Great idea
Funeral potatoes get their unique name from being a crowd-pleasing casserole served as a side dish at after-funeral luncheons (particularly in the culture of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints).
Utah, and potatoes sponsored by Idaho
This is awsome!!!😊😊😊😻😻
I doubled this recipe and using a roasting pan (perfect size for 2 batches) to bake. Should I just double to cooking time, cover for some of it, not put topping on until 1/2 through if I double time?
I had a heart attack just watching it being made.
It's so worth it though lol it's really a special occasion thing as you can probably tell from the title, us personally we would normally only have these on Thanksgiving or Christmas but definitely looked forward to all year
You wouldn't last in my house then, 😂.
Close your eyes! Lol.
It wouldn't be called "funeral" potatoes then 😂😂😂💀
It's called funeral potatoes because it's meant to be a comfort food for people who are grieving.
I suppose it could be a really bad thing if you ate it all the time, and if you used all of the bad ingredients with cornstarch and hydrogenated oils and all kinds of artificial ingredients. I peel and Shred organic potatoes. I make condensed soup from scratch using real butter, organic onions, celery, mushrooms, and organic heavy cream, and sour cream. Unprocessed shredded cheese from the block and organic corn flakes. It's soooo much tastier and better for you.
I heard the funeral potatoes were to die for
What temp do you bake them on and how long did you bake it for?
350ºF for about 30 minutes. You can get the whole recipe here: www.tasteandtellblog.com/funeral-potatoes/
Kind of a crucial part they left out there haha
Yeah I don’t understand that hahah if I open a video to see a recipe, normally it’s because I don’t know how to make it, and if I don’t know that, certainly I’ll not know how long it takes to cook 😂 but I don’t think they understand that
@@dannybarros4024 I made this for the first time tonight and I didnt put cornflakes on top. I baked mine at 350 for about 1 hour. Came out fantastic. I served it alongside Ham and Brocolli.
@@dannybarros4024 they fully understand, why they leave out some details is in hopes you'll go to their blog for the full recipe
I like your version better than others I've seen. And hey people, if you don't like onions like me just don't put them in and change the name to birth potatoes. Also, I have found that Colby cheese works the best in this and I use just a little bit more than this person.
Personally would add the butter to the corn flakes in a bowl before topping it ,also why not potato chips😂 or these day doritos would be fire 😍
Oh yeah or even the kettle cooked chips omg yum great idea thanks
Sour cream and onion chips on top
Because its already damn fattening enough lmao i feel bad eating this. Its so unhealthy but so damn tasty!
Great ideas! Any potato chip flavor will work great! I used to use leftover crushed chips instead of bread crumbs on chicken tenders. The kids loved them.
sour cream and cheese ruffles 🤪🤷♀️
Lol they don't call it funeral potatoes for nothing
It's a classic food in the funerals in Utah.
I would recommend baking it
The 2 biggest tablespoons of butter you'll ever see at 2:18 :)
Looked like a whole stick of melted butter.
Just the other day I made these cheesy potatoes cracker barrel casserole hash browns whatever the hell you want to call them yeah I put the cream of mushroom the sour cream you know in the whatever else they called for I added ground beef and hamburger to it to me it came out great I didn't put no corn flakes on top of it I just put Italian bread seasonings on top of it
It's good with a block of velveta
These look yummy, making them tonight.I'm going to have to add some seasonings & more cheese though!
What do you bake at????
💢💢LOVE THE RECIPE,BUT BAKE IT ON WHAT TEMP. PLZ&THNX???&CAN I ADD A EGG??? ..&IF SO,WHAT WOULD THE RESULTS BE?!....PLZ&THANK YOU SINCERELY!😊
I would leave out the egg. It really doesnt need it.
I also didnt put cornflakes on top of mine. I baked it for 1 hour at 350. Came out great.
Is there a printed recipe anywhere? Are the potatoes thawed first? Sorry for the stupid questions but you have to remember there are many neophytes out here.
There is a link in the description that will get you a printable recipe. :) You don't need to thaw the potatoes first.
Thank you
Hello like the recipe but you didn’t said for how long and at what temperature 🤔
350 for 30 to an hour check the middle of it and open a lil to see if hash downs are done
For how long should be baked?
350 for 30min, its in the link in the descrption, hidden away lol
what's the oven temperature and how long you bake it ???
Lmao like for real shit said “bake it!” Like no shit! But temp and time would help…
350* for 40-50 min
What degree do u bake it on ????
350* for 40-50 min
@@minkagraybeal6202 thx☺️👍
All the recipes online never mention the cornflakes as an ingredient. I'm sure it tastes great, however I question why something should be named after a funeral and that could send U there if U ate enough!
can you substitute cream of chicken for something else? I am looking for a vegetarian recipe for a friend.
itsnotthesamething cream of mushroom soup!
They also have cream of celery
Cheddar cheese soup
I use cream of celery but my mother would always use cream of mushroom. Both are good.
Try mushroom soup with creamy cheese instead and double the onions. And add bacon to the corn flakes!
Bacon! Never woulda thought of that... and I add bacon to everything! Thanks!!
I'm doing cream of mushroom, mild & sharp cheddar x2(mild melts better) & adding seasonings.
Just put a clothespin on your aorta.
Man - I can hardly wait until someone dies......😂
Should call it Heart Attack Casserole. But, wow, it sure looks delish and I would eat it in a heart beat.
@0:07
Ironic
Yeah its delicious!!
Yeah, your last heart beat. ;)
Bake it st what?
350 for 30min, its in the link in the descrption, hidden away lol
I add 2 pounds of cheese and im not sorry
No such thing as too much cheese!
Bake for how long and what temp?!? WTF???
why such a morbid name for a potato casserole?
It is something that is served at the best reunion of family and friends that you can't attend.
Because it is usually served at funerals since it is so easy to make and comforting to the ones who need something hearty and comforting to eat.
You could change the name to Corso Casserole.
Death is a part of life. So are potatoes.
@@anonymouse9105 -- BAHA!
Um....a spoon would work better you know
Hahaha so true. 🤣🤣
If you want to REALLY make it good, add crumbled bacon and the bacon grease.
... american cooking has got to be a practical joke played on europe
This looks like diabetes and a stroke in a pan 😅
Uuuuuuuuh NO🤢🤢🤢🤮
Funeral Potatoes Rank 🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮
Horrible music
Yum, but what unchristian individual takes first scoops out the middle of the casserole dish?!? Catch a corner like an adult. My fragile nerves... 😳😮💨🤣
Use cream of broccoli, cream of chicken is so gross
No WONDER this is called "Funeral Potatoes": this recipe will kill you! Come on, America, you really ought to learn how to cook without THIS much fat. Do a little napkin math by adding up the grams of fat contributed by all the ingredients and then dividing that total by the number of REALISTIC servings this dish makes. Now compare that number to the grams of fat in a USDA Prime Porterhouse steak. See? You shouldn't be doing that.
Literally nobody cares LmAo.. we are all going to die anyway
Well that looks awful
Well it doesn't taste awful.
Don’t knock it till you try it.
as a utahn
I'm from Utah I hate funerals potatoes I'm Asian though
Actually they’re very tasty but quite rich.
350 for 30min, its in the link in the description, hidden away lol
