I think it's such a kindness when a meal is lovingly prepared for the family of those who've lost a loved one. Lucy is so cute, enjoying time with Grandma and Grandpa! It was adorable that when you were putting the salt & pepper into the mixture to bring to Julie's family, little Lucy had her coloring book open to a page with a salt and pepper shaker. How fun! Thanks, as always, for wonderful videos and for bringing a bit of sweetness to this challenging life.
I have made these for years. They are a family favorite especially my son. I know you are enjoying time with your little granddaughter. She’s so sweet.
Oh, this brought back memories. 😊 My aunt used to make funeral potatoes at Christmas and Thanksgiving. Sooo delicious! 😋 She said the ladies at her church gave her the recipe. She belonged to a Mormon church with her first husband. I think I'll be making the for Thanksgiving now. 😁
I had my daughter about 8 weeks ago and my aunt brought me this except she put chicken it as well as some jalepeno. All I had to do was bake it! Talk about helping a new mom out. I will tell you from my experience it meant so much to have a warm meal, I think this is very sweet that you did this for your daughter ❤️
I think every good Mormon family grew up with funeral potatoes on the table and at gatherings such as funerals. We were converts to the church and my mom was always watching her waistline so she didn't typically make them at our house, but now that I'm a grown woman and married to a man who's mom always made them, I've begun making them as well especially at holidays. I'm not the biggest fan of them myself but that's just because I'm not a potato fan, but you can bet I wrote that recipe down for my daughter in a cookbook of our favorite family recipes. Thanks for sharing your recipe and that little Lucy is a doll.
Hello Jennifer! My adoration and respect for you and Chad increases every time I watch your video. Darling Lucy's presence added more joy. I admire your patience and the joy with which you do every act and above all, the strong family bonding. God bless you all.
I am actually making these tomorrow with a ham. I call it hashbrown casserole and it’s my favorite. Your voice is so soothing, I wish I had a nice mom who made food for me! Your girls are lucky.
oh my goodness. One of the cutest videos ever. Thank you for sharing this amazing recipe. We have having a big dinner this weekend for fathers day and I am making your recipe. You are lovely and little Lucy is just a doll. Thanks again. Be blessed. I just subscribed to your channel.
My family have been making these for years and years and have always called them party potatoes! I just recently learned people call them funeral potatoes definitely two very different occasions 😅
Been going through my husband mom recipes and scalloped potatoes and ham so glad she wrote it in her hand writing thing of making something with one of her recipes maybe a cutting board with a recipe
Melissa I’m glad for you, that you found that treasure from your mom (what a gift)!!! That’s one of my favorite meals, (which I also got from my mom, happy memory)!Have a good one!!!SANDY

Looks delicious! I love potatoes and baked they are also so very good. What a lovely granddaughter Lucy is! She looks exactly like her mother. At that age children are so pure and innocent. How lucky you and Chad are having all those children and grandchildren.
We call this texas potatoes or hashbrown casserole! I love your salt n pepper shakers! Have you had them a long time. My mother had a set like that but with granny Smith green tops! Takes me back! Watching Lucy watch you cooking...what a great memory that will be for her and for you! ❤
Lucy is so very precious!! I enjoyed getting to see her today❤️💕 I know she enjoyed her special time with grandma and grandpa!! Hopefully Julie was able to get some much needed rest!! This looks so yummy!! I can’t wait to try this!! I’ve always used the box mix of potatoes because I’ve always been afraid to try to make them from scratch (the Au Gratin ones I mean) …. So silly I know!! So I will for sure try it!! I wanted to also give a little tip that was my grandmas! A tip that I use in my kitchen! Maybe it will help someone! When ever you cut an onion. Save all the scraps, even the skins…. Every bit of it. Put it in a large ziplock bag and place in your freezer…..you can use those for when you make your broths or soups!! You can do the same with carrots and celery, just throw all those scraps in the same bag!! Those ends have lots of flavor… so don’t throw that goodness away!! Especially during these hard times!! God bless you all ❤️💕✝️
@Trina I do this as well and make Beautiful, Rich Stocks with them each month and Pressure Can it! Tutorials are on my channel here. I try my best to get this taught to Everyone! Fantastic tip

I made these for the first time at thanksgiving, they were a huge hit! I followed the recipe to the T, even putting a little mozzarella on top. My Grandkids ( 5 boys ) kept thanking me for making these potatoes so needless to say I will be making them every year and at Christmas time too! Thanks for posting your recipes!
I call them Church Potatoes. We love them. My neighbor and I were going to several funerals one summer and were always making "funeral potatoes" we thought it sounded happier to call them Church Potatoes.
Looks delicious! the corn flakes reminds me of one of our favorite casserole its called special K casserole it is so delicious! so good for church potlucks.
SO good! My family makes these and call them party potatoes(we use cubed, definitely going to try shredded!) . We have them at every large family gathering. Except we do no crunchies on top, extra extra cheese! Awesome video!
I just love those potatoes and your green baking dish was so pretty. You can also add smoked sausage or chicken sausages. You are such a sweet and kind person. I am about the same age and I enjoy all your videos and your kids videos as well. Have a blessed day.
I love your channel and I love your videos I have a small family me and my two kids and tomorrow is Easter I don't want to make a humongous ham so I am going to buy the ham chunks like you did and make this tomorrow for Easter thank you for sharing this recipe.
We make the same recipe except for the topping we crush up two sleeves of ritz crackers and add melted butter to the cracker crumbs and then spread over the top and bake. I’ll have to try with corn flakes.
What a gr8 idea to put chunks of ham in the potato casserole! Thanks for that idea. Chad is a superb taste-tester, and little Lucy is absolutely precious!
I started watching and I was like ... wait .... that is Cheesy Potatoes !!!! ( Indiana ) Never thought about putting ham or bacon pieces. Will have to try that.
I am sure the potatoes are delicious, but Lucy is the cutest!! I am sure she loves hanging out at your house getting all of the attention and yummy food! Such joy! ♥
Madeline; Hi,Sandy here. I agree, I would LOVE to buy an actual cookbook, I missed that boat too! I can’t believe I missed out, I could almost be considered a collector. I have tons of cookbooks (all books really), but buying a cookbook with a connection to people who wrote it (with all the stories with it) is priceless!!! Are you sure there’s not a forgotten box full of them in the garage? Love your channel(s) Thanks for sharing, -SANDY-
Our family has made theses potatoes for many years. My mom always called them yummy potatoes. We have always used sliced green onion instead of the white onion you made. They are always a favorite when ever we make them.
Here in the Fingerlakes of New York we call them "Crack Potatoes" also. Because they are habit forming. I once was out of cornflakes and had some sour cream and onion potato chips so I crushed them up and they came out great. My daughter also likes to put a can of chopped green chilies in hers. I love ham in my sometime also. It is so versatile.
It’s so funny to see your cooking and baking bowls I have your every day dishes. And I have the same casserole dish you use in this video. I have the same mixer. …..
I didnt grow up in Utah, but lived there for most of my teenage years. Dead Wives potatoes are the single greatest culinary contribution Utah has ever made. Much better than jello Salad, or , god help us, frogeye salad.
I’m from Maryland and my mom makes this but we call it potato casserole. She uses cream cheese instead of sour cream. She also puts the butter with the cornflakes instead of the onions and it’s so good.
In Indiana, we call them Cheesy Potatoes. The ladies on our funeral committee at our church, makes this exact dish when someone passes for their family.
